The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

Oh well, I'm rereading the series and for the next 6 days will busy myself in god, ootp, and hbp (i just reread the first three). If this isn't true, great. If it is, it doesn't tell anything improtant, it's just the initial rush of reading the first passage is gone and it sounds odd right now but who knows, it could be great. So as I immerse myself in rereading, I'll let this go out of my head. :) And I thought I would limit myself to mugglenet, leaky, and email, but now i see that is far too dangerous because of a mix of (A)sometimes poiler tags don't show up and (B) my willpower isn't that strong so i could avoid one you have to highlight but if i see it in front of me it's hard. have a good release weekened, everyone. :)

Posted by shaqfan25 Jul 15th 2007

harry is going to get laid thats all that matters in the end. and whos the taller of the two? dumbledore of course. peace out my nigs

Posted by iggyboi Jul 15th 2007

Thanks to Mugglenet we all can tell from the one line that Harry is going to killed by an inferi of dumbledore's corpse controlled by snape. That's what Snape's good news is DUH! Only joking, but yes, where are the Chapter Titles others speak of?

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

Xceptional no one was forcing you to highlight anything.. thats why its hidden! besides no one has confirmed if its real or not so dont go blamming anyone for this.. your the idiot who highlited the text why not READ what it says before that... you idiot... omg Im so sick of hearing omg this is not jks writing style blah blah SHUT UP already... you've made your point

Posted by tiassa Jul 15th 2007

I don't think it's real. There are always fake books which are the same length as the book and can be found on the net. They have to start writing them sometime. Besides i think the characters in the real book will have a better way to reconize each other.

Posted by Remus_Rocks Jul 15th 2007

Sounds fake to me, JRk has never used just a characters last name in the introduction before.

Posted by tristero07 Jul 15th 2007

I hope the person saying this is confirmed is lying. I'm so disappointed in JKR if he isn't. You think she would put more effort into the beginning. It's not even explained well. And people are complaining about other major spoilers, not this first paragraph. I don't care if I saw this (besides being incredibly disappointed). Also, I don't think it's mugglenet's fault. Spoilers are going to happen everywhere, there are much bigger ones out there that I have just narrowly avoided temptation to read. Such as a list of chapters and little descriptions of them (which people posting afterwards said seemed very real and interesting). DONT GO LOOKING FOR THEM THOUGH.

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

Xception-it probably took you like two minutes to read that 'spoiler' compared to the countless hours it'll take you to read D.H. How can you say Mugglenet ruined it for you when you highlighted the darn thing in the first place! oh and shaqfan25-that's disgusting... And finally............ someone(iggyboi)has a sense of humor around here... And-as I said before-where are those chapter titles?!

Posted by PerriHaughter Jul 15th 2007

Wow, idiocy has reached an all time low. If you think this is real, you obviously are a) extremely stupid b) horribly unobservant of Jo's writing style. Do you HONESTLY think that one of the most highly anticipated books of all time is going to start off like that?! HONESTLY?! That's so perposterous!

Posted by Loutre Jul 15th 2007

Judging by the epilogue I saw, that would perfectly fit. So I'm hoping with all my heart that I saw fake spoilers. :(

Posted by iggyboi Jul 15th 2007

Here here for sense of humor. Everyone lighten up. Let's get pumped for the book. For better or worse. For death or survival. For good (snape) or evil (snape). Everyone with me now. Take a deep breath . . . 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . release. Now say it with me now. I LOVE JKROWLING. I LOVE MUGGLENET (or else we wouldn't have been on this sight would we have now?

Hmmmm shaq25.... Anyway Mugglenet should just obliterate every comment on here and disable comments from now on. Huge spoilers are possible. And if you're still looking for those chapter lists, search "The Dark Lord Ascending" on google, it's really not that hard to find, the list is everywhere. I personally don't think that's a big spoiler.

Posted by Xceptional Jul 15th 2007

The COMMENTS go back to an earlier news article and u can see this passage.......... let me find u the link

what if its real and many of you already stated that this is such a bad opening, not JK, and so on. we all loved her work so far, now all of the sudden people become demanding...maybe even some will end up, one week from now, stating: not good JK, write it all again. i will enjoy it no matter what. she writes what she wants. how dare you make literary analysis from couple of lines?

Posted by James_Padfoot Jul 15th 2007

Loutre: There are 784 pages. The epilogue starts at page 753. You do the math. Also, there's 36 chapters all together + 1 epilogue. I didn't want to know more for the fear of spoiling myself. Though the chapter titles are interesting...

Posted by starslightskies Jul 15th 2007

just as an extension as what i wrote earlier, i think it's fake because she would describe things more. and also, although it is not terribly written, i don't think it is up to the standard that jk rowling would write. i am not satisfied that she would write that for the first paragraph of her last book. :/ by the way, i accidently ate a rotten egg flavored burtie bott bean! it was TERRIBLE :[ blech!

Posted by PerriHaughter Jul 15th 2007

Wow those two lists don't even match up at all!

Posted by iggyboi Jul 15th 2007

OK for those chapter titles someone just sent. I believe the second set (if either of them are true) sound more JKish. haha JKish. I like that. It's fun to speculate! But I understand some people like to go in knowing nothing and expecting nothing. Completely understandable. God I'm excited. Good night all!

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

Posted by James_Padfoot Jul 15th 2007

Uh oh... You guys, one of those lists (with the chapter titles, and it may not be the one you think is JKish or whatever) is the real one, but I'm not saying which. I am going to beg everyone to stay away from the comments. Seriously.

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

SaphyreRavenclaw Those are from a Fan they even said it themself

Posted by iheartmugglecast Jul 15th 2007

Wow... that sounds pretty cool. Bit skeptical, still. I guess we'll find out on the 21st... 6 days!

Posted by PirateEmery Jul 15th 2007

oookay... So, I've been spoiling myself all week reading all these "leaks" ascertaining whether or not they were fake. With all the shock going on here, I'm not going to risk it any longer. I'm not going to the link...

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jul 15th 2007

This....this can't be real. If it is, I'm going to spaz. I'm sure it's not real, but what the hell. Yatetetatatetetatettatatt eattaate!!! (BTW, that's me spazzing.)

Posted by Silvernight Jul 15th 2007

what a load of old tosh...it is highly unlikely that JK would let any clues or "viewings" of the book leak to the public before the book is released.. and secondly, it is bizarre how the "leak" hasnt suddenly been shot down...it couldnt be a fake could it?

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

I'm about to go to bed-but I'm a little in the mood to spaz myself: Yatetetatatetetatettatatt eattaate!!!

Posted by omania Jul 15th 2007

If it's real I thinks it's in the night when the Potter's are killed. I don't know why I have that feeling.

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

OK I found an easier way to get the pictures of the chapter titles because there are spaces( that I did not put in) so what you should do is go to yahoo.com>find yahoo answers on the left side>search harry potter deathly hallows content>click the first link you find>scroll down until you see a girl named peta>click the link she provides>there will be FOUR links click each to see the pictures...

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jul 15th 2007

Jimmer: You spaz just like me! Yatetatatetatetatatetaeta tteteaatteteattaaate!

Posted by coleygirl Jul 15th 2007

James_Padfoot: how do u know that one is real?? (im not trying to be rude here im just interested)

Posted by sarahgirl777 Jul 15th 2007

TESTING< TESTING

Posted by Qwexva Jul 15th 2007

i really want to read it. But i don't know if i should. omg i can't wait for the book.

Posted by toonmili Jul 15th 2007

I think It's fake. When the story is not being told from Harry's POV she tends to not say the name of characters until it is said. The fact that the narrator and not a character was the first to say the name makes me think it's not JK's work. Second, the place is a new place. Jk loves to spend time decribing new places. Not just how it looks but the kind of place it is located and maybe how it smells. There would have also been more discription of the men. And can you actually imagine Snape saying: the best. Ehhh I don't buy it.

Posted by omania Jul 15th 2007

bringmethehorizon please post the link to prove it.

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jul 15th 2007

This....this is a bunch of baloney. Bah. Not Jo's style at ALL. Fanfic much? Ah, well. Time to spaz. Yatetatattetatatatetatett etattatatatatataaate!

Posted by Paigeykins Jul 15th 2007

I would feel horrible if this was really the beginning of Deathly Hallows but I think the whole lot of it is rubbish. I just don't feel as though it is J.K Rowlings Style...

Posted by loveleh Jul 15th 2007

it's real. i found pictures of the chapter listing online and the first chapter...as they report here...is called the dark lord ascending.

Posted by Joshua21890 Jul 15th 2007

I don't think is the very beginning, and if its real it doesn't reveal much.

Posted by PirateEmery Jul 15th 2007

I went to the link that talked about someone killing someone, and had several scans of the epilogue (I know, I have no self-control whatsoever). However, I am happy to tell the folks that DID read it that it is most definitely a fake.

Posted by sparkling_jewel55 Jul 15th 2007

How exciting! only ....5 days, 15 hours, 55 minutes to go :P

Posted by Widdi2k7 Jul 15th 2007

Okay so I caved. I read the spoilers. Well the chapter titles, mini (and very unspecific) descriptions and as much as it pains me to say it, the epilogue. If these are legit I'm going to send out a warning to fans right now. IF you are one of those people who wants to find out how "scar" gets used at the end of the book chnage your mind. The last sentence spoiles something major so don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled. As for this opening, I'm skeptical but after seeing the pictures of some of the stuff I have a feeling it is legit.

Posted by James_Padfoot Jul 15th 2007

Coleygirl7, that's more than many people's worth to tell you that. If it is, it is. If it's not, no harm done.

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jul 15th 2007
