The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

Does anyone else find this whole thing ridiculously hilarious? Some people are like "definitely fake" and some are like "NUH UH!!! i saw scans and chapter pictures and its def for realz".... yeah, I'm shaking my head right now. Good night, crazy people!

Posted by PirateEmery Jul 15th 2007

This will go down as the funniest joke ever when we hit the 21st, regardless of whether or not its real. For years, we're going to remember the week before the book's release fondly as something similar to controlled paranoia.

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

The descritions of each chapter in the link SaphyreRavenclaw just posted are very fake... I don't doubt the chapters are fake but I think someone just made it up...

Posted by SaphyreRavenclaw Jul 15th 2007

The rest of my last comment somehow got deleteed so I am reposting it...... I HAVE FOUND THE REASON THAT THE FOLLOWING SITE CANNOT BE REAL.--->http://simm ysim.livejournal. com/471641 .html

Posted by Leeaid Jul 15th 2007

5 days.. I just can't wait, I'm so curious what's going to happen in HP&DH! Think the taller man might be the Dark Lord ;)

Posted by Wheres_My_Snare Jul 15th 2007

Ooooh, an unitalicized spell, that is a good find if I do say so myself. That wouldn't be much of a big deal if these scans were of stacks of loose pages - we could just say it's a rough copy - but the creator of these scans wants us to believe that this is a completed, finished hardcover book. An unitalicized scan has no chance of making it past Potter Continuity Security. I'm still mad, the only reason I clicked the blasted link was because I'm new to this Potternomena (I read all the books last year) so I've been enjoying reading the myriad of unconvincing "spoilers". That and the fact that I'm an impatient spoiler junkie, lol.

Posted by PirateEmery Jul 15th 2007

The unitalicized scan was a different "version" than this current forgery, so we still have to find that incontrovertible proof that this one is fake. I think we're nearing it...

NO WAY I AM NOT READING I AM NOT READING I AM NOT READING I AM NOT READING I AM NOT READING I AM NOT READING

Posted by crom Jul 15th 2007

i dont recon its real. sounds abit fake to me expecialy for the staring sounds a bit like crap doesnt realy sound like jo's writing too though i could be wrong O.o

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 15th 2007

no i can't beleive this. it just can't be the opening chapter. JKR wouldn't call her chapter "the dark lord ascending" because it's too obvious! her chapter names only become clear once you've actually read the chapters. i just refuse to beleive it! Maybe i'm wrong and if i am i will give you all 9 sickles and a dungbomb. :D

Posted by bswank08 Jul 15th 2007

Craaaaaaaap. I've just ruined the entire book for myself : ( I swear I have NO willpower. *smirk* HA but I know how it ends : ) So I'm not that mad

Posted by PirateEmery Jul 15th 2007

You can't have ruined the book if the data that ruins it turns out to be fake. ;-)

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

How did you find out how it ends?

Posted by EzzyB Jul 15th 2007

So if it is fake that could mean the opposite happens and Hazza dies?! It would also be funny if it were real and people were bagging jk writing style. The book looks too much of a rosy ending for a harry potter book, it doesn't seem likely...

Posted by SaphyreRavenclaw Jul 15th 2007

You will notice on these so called "scans" that the first page labeled "Contents" lists NINE titles and the following pages list TEN. This does not follow the patteren of the rest of the books. ALL of the previous books have listed EIGHT titles on the first page and NINE on all of the following. You will also notice that on the last "scan" it shows the egde of the following page, which appears to be the first chapter. This also does not follow the patteren of the rest of the books. ALL of the previous books have a final title page with a checkered background before the first page of the first chapter. Also if we were to assume that for some reason the "final title page" has been removed before the beginning of chapter one, it is still missing the signature enlarged first letter that appears on EVERY SINGLE chapter beginning.

Posted by AussieMuggle01 Jul 15th 2007

who cares whether or not its real? why would anyone want to ruin the pleasure of reading the book in the first place? I want answers as much as the next person, but I'm willing to wait! =)

Posted by Spirit Jul 15th 2007

I think it is more likely real than not. We've gotten little snippets a few days before the books are released before. It really is impossible to tell whether this is JK Rowling's style or not since it's so short. I remember when we got an entire page of OotP before it was released and most people doubted it was real because they thought it didn't sound like her and it was the real thing. But of course, it might not be. We'll see in five days.

Posted by FlaMe_ForteScue Jul 15th 2007

i think that it could be real...The chapter title sounds cool, Even if it turns out to be fake and i have seen the "chapter art" and it does look pretty convincing!....And i have read a scanned page....Just incase if it's real, I won't SPOIL it 4 u all but let me just say that Lily DID leave a note for Harry and then the plot gets WAY more complicated for Harry...The blood sacrifice is part of it...The Weasly's have something VERY interesting to share...And a certain creature saves the trio's lives....Gosh!..i'm such a sucker for spoilers...'need to stop'

Posted by Mizz_Moony_Luver Jul 15th 2007

*rocks back and forth in fetal from excitement* *can't handle the anticipation* This looks...very convincing, actually. I think it's legit. OMG OMG OMG. I bet the taller one is Regulus Black, because he faked his death. Definitely. Well, that’s my take on it, anyway. SO...EXCITED...CAN'T...BR EATHE....OR....COMMENT... PROPERLY...AHHHH...

Posted by irinuca Jul 15th 2007

one question for mugglenet: why we cannot post any comment about the editorials(Chamber of Secrets closed until 24th July" We are doing this to prevent last-minute spoilers hitting the forums") but comments are allowed about the news? cause here is where the spoilers appear. real or fake , this is not the point. i will end up thinking you mugglenet like this spoiler story, because no one is deleting the links. where is that cave someone was was talking about? any free place there for a week?

Posted by potterfan64 Jul 15th 2007

Intriguing....

Posted by Wheres_My_Snare Jul 15th 2007

GREAT observation, SaphyreRavenclaw. Good work, especially the enlarged letter part. We're picking this thing apart properly. I think someone else pointed this out but one of the characters that is said to be dead clearly is speaking in the VERY BRIEF epiliouge that, if you ask me, does not "basically say what happens to everyone after they leave school" -JKR. And if I'm not mistaken, I didn't read it all that in depth, there are some characters missing.

Posted by ahafaggot Jul 15th 2007

UGH FIVE DAYS! THATS TO LONG!

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 15th 2007

haha rob15: you never fail to amuse me :)

Posted by RKRK1313 Jul 15th 2007

im not saying this is for sure not fake... but to me... it seems totally plausible that this may be authentic. i know most of the time JKR starts off with a little bit more introduction... but this is the last book in the series... we are already deep into the story and we barely need introduction... by jumping straight into the dialogue it gives a sense of urgency... perhaps this is going back in time and showing snape revealing the news that dumbledore has been killed to voldemort. whatever it is it certainly doesn't seem too far fetched.. although i do agree with some people... its not the strongest beginning sentences compared to the last few books.... there isn't much description in it... regardless of its authenticity though, at least it gives basically nothing away.

Posted by Shaun05 Jul 15th 2007

It does seem fake however there are certain things which may make it seem real. Firstly, it was printed in the Gaurdian, or on the Gaurdian website... whatever... but the Gaurdian has always been a bit more... authentic, and it is unlikely that a spoler like this would go un noticed by JK, so it's likely she gave them it's approval. That's... if it is real... I dunno... I can wait until saturday

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

ah sh..it I read the darn epiloge... I wish I didn't do that.. but it does seem really fake

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 15th 2007

oh, i remember when OoTP was about to come out (the book) the bit about him lying in the flower bed at the beginning was in the paper and it was right but i don't remember if it was released by JKR or not! i remember thinking harry was dead at that point but i was only 9 and quite stupid :D

Posted by RKRK1313 Jul 15th 2007

ha its funny that alot of you think those scans are real. i can tell something thats been photoshopped a mile away. those are definitely fake... and anyway if you dont want to be spoiled then stay away from things like that. its not mugglenets fault... they warned you to stay away from the site altogether if you want to maintain safety from spoilers... even they cannot stop idiots who want attention from posting stuff like this. and if you had will power you wouldn't click.

Posted by knowitall Jul 15th 2007

It really sounds fake

Posted by SaphyreRavenclaw Jul 15th 2007

Thank you very much Wheres_My_Snare. I have been looking at a couple of different "spoilers" lately and this one about the "scans" is diffinatly the most bogus. I can't believe so many people swear that they are real. I am a die-hard fan who doesn't mind reading spoilers beacuse I know that most are fakes. Even if they aren't I am still going to chearish the book when I get my hands on it...even if I somehow read some of it beforehand. I'm not completely sure about this excerpt though... In my opinion: It's not real.....Although I can see Jo writing this out as a rough draft, which she would return to later so she can fill out the details.

Posted by PhoenixAT Jul 15th 2007

Too many dang spoilers - fake or not, I've only fallen into the above spoiler from main post which I really don't care is real or not, seeing as it seems awesome either way - two chapter titles and pictures (Chapter 7 and 23?) and that's about it. Just want it to be next week so I can finish it by myself. Oh, and just saying, that first paragraph seems like, for ME - a Stephen King opening. First thing I thought of was 'Gunslinger' opening where it starts off with a quick and thrilling pace that makes someone want to read on: The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed. And here you have: SPOILER FROM HIGHLIGHTED PART The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane E nd Spoiler from Highlighted Part

Posted by Fenix7 Jul 15th 2007

thats not jo's writing style.

Posted by lilgio68 Jul 15th 2007

LIKE MANY HAVE SAID. THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT JK ROWLING'S WRITING STYLE. PUNCTUATION AND EVEN WORD CHOICE (AND SPELLING OF RECOGNISE?). DEFINITELY NOT. GREAT FOR PRESS THOUGH.

Posted by StormyEsperanza Jul 15th 2007

We'll know if it's real in a few days time! :D *squeels with excitement*

Posted by Criselle1287 Jul 15th 2007

i read it as soon as i saw it, but then i immediately felt ashamed for having read a part of it so eagerly... oh dear. :D

Posted by PhoenixAT Jul 15th 2007

Still, it reminds me of King's writing style. First time - if I'm correct, that Rowling uses a REALLY GRABBING start to a tale. What's better than starting out after probably when Dumbledore is killed with Snape and a random man? It's grabbing and pulls you in. Usually it's a slow and easy pace to help you come in, describe the surrounds. Yes, it's not a 'Rowling style', but I really like it. It's fast-paced and is quick.

Posted by lotr_girl10107 Jul 15th 2007

you know what!!! i dont care if it is a fake?! it has made me so uch more excited! because it is the last book i think i am going to prolong the experience and read it over a couple of days instead of over a ten hour period lol! i swear i am not looking at this website again until sometime next week! i am already excited enough as it is!!!!!! have fun reading!!!!!

Posted by Kid_A Jul 15th 2007

I'm confused; the book is out on 21st of July at the early morning, or 22nd of July at the early morning?

Posted by lotr_girl10107 Jul 15th 2007

hey how do i watch the scans! can someone please help me?

Posted by SaphyreRavenclaw Jul 15th 2007

12:01 a.m. July 21st

Posted by Sarah_Louise Jul 15th 2007

i dunno...it dosnt really seem like JK's writing "style" but then again, they released a small segment of the other books before their release. oohhh...i just dont know. JUST GIVE ME THE BOOK!

Posted by wemoonwitch Jul 15th 2007

5 days to go! I'm already freaking out! I'm writing trivia, watching the movies, made a crossword puzzle, will do a page of "Quick Quotes" for each book. I'm incoherent, my mind's focused on Harry Potter and nothing else. I'm spending the last 24 hours in front of the bookstore re-reading (for the 25th or 30th time, literally) all the books. It's actually problematic. I'm a second a way from being insane for Harry Potter. I am losing it. I have many other respnsibilities and, while I'm doing them, I'm scattered between the real world and the Harry Potter world. Actually, it's quite a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I love it!

Posted by sarahgirl777 Jul 15th 2007

This just doesn't seem Jkrowling to me. I'm disappointed with myself for even looking at it. I've resolved to not buy into any more potential spoilers simply because i've waited a long time for this book and i really don't want any inside info. I want the full HP experience. This is my last chance to enjoy one of these novels. My VERY LAST CHANCE to enjoy Harry's world from start to finish. Not to mention this is the most intense and important book of them all because it wraps everything up and answers all of our questions. I have confidence in JK Rowling and I feel that she'll give us information as we need it. She hasn't let me down yet!! Before you guys go searching for spoilers just remember...We've all waited this long. What is 5 more days? Talk to you all in the forums on the 24th

Posted by SaphyreRavenclaw Jul 15th 2007

lotr_girl10107 I'm positive that they are fakes but if you really wish to see them here (just delete the spaces)--->http://simm ysim.livejournal. com/471641 .html

Posted by jonno2k8 Jul 15th 2007

sounds really good cant wait woooh

Posted by Divster Jul 15th 2007

I can't believe i read it!! but it doesn't give away much, but in my opinion it does sound like JK Rowling's style of writing (though it title isn't) so it's pretty likely that it might be the opening. god 6 more days!!!!!! i cant wait!!!!

Posted by lotr_girl10107 Jul 15th 2007

wemoonwitch dont worry i have read the 6th book twice in the last week! i have re read the series four or five times this year already (mostly in the last month) im 18 lol ppl just dont understand the importance of harry potter! its crazy really!i dont think they are real either however maybe jk did it as a joke? but then again who guessed that dumbledore would be killed! and it really sucks because australia doesn't get the book until 9:01 AM EST on sat the 21st of JULY! AAARRRRGGGGHHH i cant wait that long lol!!!! im having trouble sleeping! i have had my countdown going since the day the release date was released (i also got the day off of work the day i found out it was goiung to be released. mind u this was b4 christmas!!!)

Posted by She_Who_Must_Not_Be_Named1 Jul 15th 2007

That does not sound like Jo and considering the fact I've been reading her since I was 7 or 8 years old I would know what she sounding like . That seems WAY off. There are too many commas and it doesn’t sound English (to me anyway). . . I don’t think she would of put "replied Snape" either, instead she would of had the taller character introduce Snape because it adds to the scene instead of just dropping his name. The title *goes to look through 3 of the six books* she usually starts with "The" (The Riddle House, The other minister ect ect) for the first chapter except in the 5th which is "Dudley Demented"..... The title is the only thing that doesn't sound shady. . . I may be wrong, and this could be the start to it but that poor sad little man is just putting gas on a already blazing fire. He is just one ignorant man against most of worlds population of American, British, Canadian, Mexican, Spanish, French ect of muggle kids with a veracious apatite for reading that all started with those famous lines from the first book "Mr. and Mrs Dursley of Number 4 privet drive are proud to say they are normal that you very much..."

Posted by GreenEyes Jul 15th 2007

I read it you guys! NOTHING to worry about, seriously. Go ahead and read it if you want. Theres NO spoilers. I swear on my love for Harry Potter! Infact, it just got me MORE excited for the book!! *dances* 5 FREAKING DAYYS U GUYS OMGGG!!! Probably not the real thing, but sounds like i good intro to a fanfic, lol.
