Scholastic gets subpoena to identify spoiler
Scholastic gets subpoena to identify spoiler The LA Times is reporting that the US Harry Potter publisher obtained a subpoena to learn the identity of a user who allegedly posted copies of Deathly Hallows on a California website.

Scholastic said in a court filing Monday that "materials hosted on Photobucket.com's system" contain materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. Photobucket.com, a News Corp. unit, is a website for sharing photos and videos on social networks such as MySpace.

The subpoena was sent to Gaia Interactive Inc. in San Jose seeking the identity of a user on gaiaonline.com, a social network, according to the filing in San Francisco federal court.

Gaia complied with the subpoena, removed the material and temporarily banned the user from the site, said Gaia spokesman Bill Danon.

Posted by Harry_is_our_King Jul 17th 2007

horrible to spoil the book for every1! TOP 5!

Posted by jedi2814 Jul 17th 2007

Excellant!! Glad to see they're going after them.

Posted by NixNookz Jul 17th 2007

I go on that site. Thank god I didn't see it. Top 5?

Posted by Quidditchxx Jul 17th 2007

I really wish people would stop trying to spoil the book. :(

Posted by dawnsong7 Jul 17th 2007

wow, that really stinks. God, I hope it wasn't the one I saw. Top 10?

Posted by hpfanatical Jul 17th 2007

Whoa crazy! They're not messing around with these potential spoilers.

Posted by 7yepans Jul 17th 2007

good...im glad there doing something about it...im glad i didnt see it!!! top ten!! woot

Posted by amputechture Jul 17th 2007

Aw man, so the spoiler I accidently saw (on Youtube of all places) was true? This sucks.

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 17th 2007

Thank God he got caught adn I didnt see ti top 10???

Posted by dougberg Jul 17th 2007

I am going to stick to only my trusted sites until the book comes out now. I will stick with CNN, sports sites, and eBay. :-/ Sad that it has come to avoiding sites I enjoy. :-(

Posted by cbasfrench Jul 17th 2007

Since Scholastic went after them, it would therefore appear that the information that was shown on that site was legit. So I guess, for those that have read the spoilers (I'm ashamed to say I am one of them), it might be disappointing to find out that the spoilers were real.

Posted by Harry_is_our_King Jul 17th 2007

WAIT does that mean the spoilers were true? like the one where some1 took pictures of the book? IT CANT BE REAL I HATED THE ENDING! someone tell me its not real

Posted by Yuli Jul 17th 2007

OMG scary.... Top 10?

Posted by dumbledork62442 Jul 17th 2007

Poor dude, I actually feel bad for him.

Posted by weasley24601 Jul 17th 2007

I hate it when people ruin things like this for everyone else who wants to enjoy it the right way. I think that's just the most awful thing ever. Especially when there's spoilers where you least suspect it. People are jerks.

Posted by Pranka Jul 17th 2007

it's SO SAD that people find it necessary to ruin the book for the masses....

Posted by moonshine Jul 17th 2007

no! the book has been spoiled! but luckily i didnt see it.^.^

Posted by Potterite Jul 17th 2007

If it's a fake, I don't see why they'd go to court over it.

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 17th 2007

dumbledork62442- WHy would you feel sorry for him???He just ruined the boook for a lot of people. thankfully I didn't see one, but I feel really bad for the rest of the people. People stop spoiling. if you read the book already, PLEASE don't post them here

Posted by txRABbit Jul 17th 2007

I wonder if it was the pics of the chapter titles. They certainly looked real, as did the GrandPre artwork from Chapter 23 and 7. The titles did seem to be not in JKR's style, but who knows?

Posted by littleh2o7 Jul 17th 2007

wow. i'm really pushing my limits going online these days with spoilers left and right, i'm glad they're trying their best to do something about it

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jul 17th 2007

Thats so annoying. Imagine if it was your job to look out for spoilers on the web with the millions and millions of websites there are. 3 DAYS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Posted by BurntFlower Jul 17th 2007

@Harry_is_our_King. I'm really sorry to say this, but the scans are real. And yes, I also disliked the ending.

Posted by Tonks89 Jul 17th 2007

I am so glad that I didn't see it. last book I found out who died accidentally and it sucked (luckily though not by who, which was more of a shock). I hate spoilers.

Posted by jedi2814 Jul 17th 2007

It doesn't necessarily mean that the info was legit, just that they were infringing on copywrights. Which they were even if the story was fan fiction since there was no disclaimer like on the fan fiction part of MN.

Posted by moonshine Jul 17th 2007

yeah i agree with sirius_lee! IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK THEN PLEASE DO NOT POST ANYTHING ABOUT IT ON HERE!!!!!

Posted by Spoonsy Jul 17th 2007

It was the Gaiafags who spoiled it? I thought it was LUELinks.. Oh, wait, that's right. LUE doesn't exist.

Posted by potterfanatic37 Jul 17th 2007

If people are that excited about the book that they want to read spoilers... then they should read the editorials to satisfy their need for possible information without the risk of ruining the entire book

Posted by carlcamper Jul 17th 2007

So the things in this site are true then, sigh... http://www.zen durl.com/h/hallows/ (n o spaces)

Posted by Tonks1975 Jul 17th 2007

It does not mean that is was real. it contains materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, Where the respective marks or products or services are not identical, similarity will generally be assessed by reference to whether there is a likelihood of confusion that consumers will believe the products or services originated from the trademark owner. It could be a fake but so many are taking it as real and causing an uproar that they are going to put a stop to it. Hopefully it stops others as well.

Posted by cbasfrench Jul 17th 2007

Posted by Potterite 1 minute ago "If it's a fake, I don't see why they'd go to court over it." The thing is, by taking legal actions against the website on which the spoilers were shown, Scholastic has pretty much revealed that the information is real and that it is not a fake. They would have been better off not doing anything. There are enough fake spoilers floating around on the web that it was kind of difficult distinguishing which were legit and which were not. Now, by taking legal actions, they revealed the whole thing. Kind of stupid if you ask me.

Posted by toast10 Jul 17th 2007

i sent in tha news article!!

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 17th 2007

moonshine - Thank you!!!!! Seriously, even if its fake, son't put them up just for a laugh because that totally sucks. People, deep your mouth shut for 3 days PLEASEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Diggoryboy Jul 17th 2007

Wow I'm glad they caught him!

Posted by Ngozi528 Jul 17th 2007

wow, so that was a real spoiler. I thought it was just a hoax or some kind of virus that people were trying to warn about. I wonder if we'll find out if it really was the real deal after the book comes out. I hope no one really did have the book spoiled for them. I would seriously cry if that happened to me. seriously.

Posted by stareyed_in_LA Jul 17th 2007

OMG! I use Gaiaonline and I accidentally saw these spoilers just last Saturday. I thought they were fake at the time cause it didn't look like JKR's style of writing. I hope that bastard rots in Hell for this.

Posted by Matthias Jul 17th 2007

i hate it... persons destroying everything

Posted by pdoyle60 Jul 17th 2007

It to lates for the U.S. publisher to do anything as i have already seen that you can download pictures of half of the book on a popular warez site!!!

Posted by SPEW07 Jul 17th 2007

PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER so the spoiler that was posted on here a few days ago in comments that show'd the epilogue was real.....it couldn't have because the book ended on 759 and there are 784 pages......this was the one that the epilogue was titled nineteen years later and ended all is well...IT CANT BE TRUE NOOO please inform me...

Posted by amputechture Jul 17th 2007

Potterfanatic37. It is pretty much near-impossible to avoid being spoiled. I saw the list of what happens in a Youtube comment. The last place I expected to see anything in. Just because you don't see the actual scans doesn't mean that depraved fu-ckers won't find any forum they can to post spoilers.

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 17th 2007

SPEW07-i'm really not sure because I didn't see it , but I really hope it wasn't ebcasue that would be so sad for you=(

Posted by dobbyroxmysox Jul 17th 2007

LOL if people dont want to ruin the book for themselves STOP LOOKING AT THE SPOILER SIGHTS and then come on mugglenet complaining whether what you saw was true or not. its HELLA annoying

Posted by britishwannabe Jul 17th 2007

I literally shut my eyes every time I have to comment on any website. I think it's sad that people out there find it amusing to post spoilers and trick people into reading them. I've been waiting 10 years for this book and I made a vow to myself that no matter what I WILL NOT BE SPOILED!!!!

Posted by Witchy_Woman Jul 17th 2007

Okay, that's cool in a weird way. They are not taking ANY chances. It's actually kind of amusing when you think about it.

Posted by potterfanatic37 Jul 17th 2007

asume all spoilers are fake even if you are told they are true... i think its fine to read them just to think of possible outcomes for the book but i would advise not taking any spoilers seriously because then when you read the book it will be given all the glory it deserves

Posted by Tonks1975 Jul 17th 2007

SPEW07 probably not real. There is no way to know for sure. but there are so many it is hard to tell which spoiler they are talking about. I don't think it was because the news story said it was one posted on photobucket and it was the whole book. not just the end. But IDK. I have not read any of them but I did save them on my computer for after I read the book, than I will go back and see if they were real. I have heard a couple of small things by accident, ON HERE :( But all in all there is so much contradicting info that there is no way to know whats what till after I read the book. I am very careful now.
