Scholastic tracks down Deathly Hallows leak
Scholastic tracks down Deathly Hallows leak The US book publisher has issued a statement this morning which reveals where a leak of Deathly Hallows occurred:

We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.

PRESS RELEASE:
Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail , beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.

We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st.

Scholastic is especially grateful to the other retailers and distributors for their careful attention to keeping the books secure until the release time and for planning thousands of spectacular midnight parties where fans will celebrate together. And we ask everyone, especially the media, to preserve the fun and excitement for fans everywhere.

The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited.

well, nytimes is gonna be sued anyway for coming out with a review early, along with other newspapers, since they weren't supposed to until after the book came out..and to the page numbers for the last US version books, they started with V1, and so on, so basically the other pages don't count up to the total number of the story, so basically, again, nytimes has lost its credibility.

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry Jul 18th 2007

please dont post anything... sure, go ahead and read them yourself, but really......whats the point in telling the whole world???! i agree with siriuslovegirl...all the people posting spoilers are just jerks

Posted by trixieone Jul 18th 2007

Folks - if you are a REAL Harry Potter fan then you won't ask for details nor will you want them. Please realize that so much of the fun of these books is reading them yourself and the anticipation of what is going to happen. That is why it is so hard when you are done with a book. Enjoy these last few days of that anticipation. Enjoy these last few moments of not knowing. Soon the whole story will be known and we will be left with rereading the series as our only solace.

Posted by SnapesArmy15 Jul 18th 2007

r the spoilers at zendurl real or not ????????

Posted by Yoshi Jul 18th 2007

jjroka, no problem on clearing it up, London is only 9 hours behind you but America is 12 hours I believe.

Posted by lorien33 Jul 18th 2007

I just read the Baltimore Sun review. I'm not going to say anything, but if you are like and LOVE little tantalizing spoilers but not MAJOR plot points, then you should read the review, it has kind of satiated my thirst for the moment, without me reading any pages of the book. It does say what the Deathly Hallows are though. And the reviewer says she got the book-book, not a scanned copy (though they are probably the same).

Posted by jjroka Jul 18th 2007

Yoshi, no affence but i did some research an u wer rong for e.g in sydney itd be 2200 (10pm) n in new york itd be about 700 ( 7am) i cheked on an atlas so im 99.9 % sure its correct but if im rong ohwell atleast the book it in a day an abit

Posted by Lazerlike42 Jul 18th 2007

hpgirl21053, unless I am mistaken, the page count for OoTP was also reported by the publisher to be several pages more than the last actual page number printed on the final page. In fact, I have just checked. The Chamber of Secrets paperback is listed by Amazon.com as being 352 pages. The last page number is 341. It just so happens that when you count all the extra pages, they total 11, making 352. So, if there are 25 extra pages in the Hardcover edition of Deathly Hallows (not an out of the question number), then 759 could indeed be the last numbered page.

The Radio DJ on WBEZ 91.5 just spoiled ALL AUDIENCE WHO WAS LISTENING on who will be killed on HP7 he mentioned this site..

Posted by lupin Jul 18th 2007

Please, someone who read the book for real or seen the real scans. tell me if the epilogue that was going around the internet is false or true. I can't take it anymore. Please.

Posted by velvetsun Jul 18th 2007

rubys07....two brothers and a sister. Ok, you really need to stop right there. i mean i think all these teary comments you've been leaving have had the desired effect (you've gotten attention, and been able to spill a little bit about what you read)...now please stop. if someone wants to read the spoilers, they can. But it would be nice if we didn't have to read another "omg it's so sad...i can't stop crying" post every 5 mins. the end.

Posted by chitrab Jul 18th 2007

I hope that whoever has released the book gets what they deserve...a jail sentence and a hefty fine.

Posted by crookshanks876 Jul 18th 2007

well get this. I wa listening to the radio last night and they were giving away as a prize, the new book. How the heck did they get copies AND how dare them to think it is alright to give these books before the 21st. Don't they realize people can be spoiling the end for us!!!!???

Posted by Yoshi Jul 18th 2007

I don't know the difference in Sydney, I'm in Perth myself so I know that Perth is 7 hours ahead of London. I think you can look up the release time for New York couldn't you?

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 18th 2007

Posted by OzYazKel Jul 18th 2007

Maybe they can't get the prize UNTIL the 21st....

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 18th 2007

do you all know about the "susposed" epiloque that was leaked? i really hope it wasn't real, because my job is to make sure stuff like this is fake and to prove it. well somethings wrong wit the epilogue is that it has NO england talk or accents in it, its just american tongue. the other thing wrong wit it is that if u look closely at the last page where u see the end, it ends on 754, when the book ends at 784! my boss says its not enough to shut down the site...but does nyone know if scholastic has shut it down or if it's fake...cause i reallly think its fake! thanks, Gus

Posted by jjroka Jul 18th 2007

yoshi did see your 2nd comment im sry if my recent comment came of meen i thought it did thats why i put in the no affence any ways i cant beleive to make the time go away im lookin up time differences on an atlas lmao i cant wate for the book muggle net is awesome i agree wif velvet sun rubys07 even though no1 could figure out anyhtin from ur comment plz stop i like lookink at small non plot giving away spiolers but not many others do please and this is to everyone dont post spoilers small or majour spoilers its not fair to those who hav any morals

Posted by Xceptional Jul 18th 2007

thesilentcat i think that was real!! was it a picture!

Posted by NightBus Jul 18th 2007

If I got it early, I would read every chapter exept the last 5 (main spoilers are in the last 5 chaps), then at midnight on Friday, I would read the last 5, oh, the spoilers from www.zendurl.com/hallows are just predictions/rumors, some are true, some arent, we'll just have to wait ans see...

Posted by velvetsun Jul 18th 2007

thesilentcat there are many reports that the epilogue just doesn't fit with the rest of the book, but then i'm hopelessly confused as to what is, if anything of this whole mess is actually real. I haven't read any of the leaked book(s), but have been given details by those who have. While there are certain aspects to the book that i like...there are MANY things in it that just don't stand up in my opinion. there are those that are swearing it's real, and some of them LOVE the ending, and others absolutely HATE it. In the end, when i pick up my copy on friday night, i will be one of the ones who flips to the back to see if the final sentence is the same as in the leaked versions.

Posted by hpfreak07 Jul 18th 2007

ok..TO ALL AMERICAN POTTER RADERS, I LIVE IN CANADA AND WE RECIEVE THE BRITISH VERSIONS, AND I AM WONDERING, HOW IS THE PAGE COUNT IN AMERICAN EDITIONS....FOR EXAMPLE THE PAGE COUNT FOR HBP IS LISTED AT 652 PAGES, BUT WAT IS THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF PAGES, FOR THE OTHER BOOKS AS WELL PLEASE, I ASK THIS IN REGARDS TO THAT EPILOGUE THAT IS LISTED AT ENDING ON PAGE 759

Posted by rubys007 Jul 18th 2007

velvetsun you are right. I will stop posting. But the only reason I did was because so many f-heads are crapping on a book they havent read! saying they are disappointed with an epilogue they READ OUT OF CONTEXT. The book IS great. The epilogue is great. So f all the haters. they will eat their words come friday night. JKR wrote a great book. point finale

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 18th 2007

Finestella, u r completely right...and i susposed u took a peek too without regretting it later. Me and my co-workers are trying and looking hard at this epiloge u look and see if it is indeed fake. but we were in contact with scholastic, and they use computers to calculate how many pages are printed with the right amount of numbering on the bottom, otherwise the whole thing would be wrong and the book would be thrown out..after it was checked before packaged. i can tell all right now! that if u read the epilogue for one reason or anouther i am sure that it IS fake. the wrong numbering and wrong language almost proves it. When me and my workers are done and have proved it wrong i will post it in BIG.dont worry my fellow peekers it might not be true, u dont need to be guilty or regret it...but if im wrong forget wut you read and dont go back. I love Harry Potter and will do anything to stop wrong doers that try to spoil the books.

Posted by Lazerlike42 Jul 18th 2007

I think the big issue here is that it's an ending. Endings are *always* far more controversial and polarizing than beginnings or middles. Endings are just... well for instance, I am a person who always hates endings of books and films. I always feel as though more could have been done, or I see problems or ends that are left a bit too lose, or some other thing. I am positive that this is a trait that I share with many others. Another thing about endings, especially of series, is that they have to break the forumla. There is always a forumla of suspense and of mystery and whatnot throughout a series. There is always the one goal that has never been achieved - becaus of course, were it achieved, the series would have ended long ago. Endings force the forumla to be broken, the suspense and curiosity that so enchanted readers or viewers to be done away with, and that final goal to be put forever in the rearview mirror. I don't think JKR could have written *anything* that wouldn't have just about split folks down the middle.

Cant the comments be closed already? it sucks that people are trying to ruin everything for the fans who want to be surprised... if we want to read spoilers, we will look for them, don't ruin it for us!

Posted by Lazerlike42 Jul 18th 2007

Thesilentcat------------- --------------I have to disagree with you about the page count. Upon doing some research, I've found that all those "extra pages" (dedications, TOC, blank pages, about the author, etc.) count toward the grand page total as well. For instance, see the paperback edition of Chamber of Secrets; it has an offical page count of 752, which turns out to be 741 numbered pages and 11 extras. Similar things hold true for the other books. If someone has a copy of the scanned book, they need only count up how many extra pages they are. If there are 25, then this would be, in my mind, rather strong evidence that it is real.____________________ _________________________ _________________________ On top of this, from what I understand, the reviews in the New York Times and Baltimore Sun agree with the scanned book. Both sources claim to have reviewed a hard copy - a physical copy of the book sold early.

Posted by MundungusF Jul 18th 2007

i agree with lazerlike, its not the ending but endings in general.

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 18th 2007

velvetsun , i will too i will hope the last word in that leaked copy....is not the last word in the real copy..the last word in the WHOLE series..which i think its not...cause thats a bad word to end with. thanks for your opinion though, u nd i and the rest who share our opinions are REAL potter fans, but im not saying others are not. Xceptional, it is now a picture and a manuscript. my co-workers are working on language and i work on appearance to make sure its untrue. I think it is not real but fake but im not always right.

Posted by StMichael333 Jul 18th 2007

does anyone know a chool or a curse where i can actually learn or practice magic?

Posted by MundungusF Jul 18th 2007

a school of show magic? no.

*NO SPOILERS* So. I downloaded the PDF that has photographs of every page in the book and I read it last night. If you accidentally read something that someone claims is a detail of DH7, just remember that *you don't know*. I've read some of the sites claiming to be spoilers and most of them have a wide blend of made up stuff and some real stuff. The point is that until you actually sit down and go through the experience of reading the book yourself, you won't know how it ends and how Rowling resolves the fates of the characters. Which means that as long as you keep the right perspective, there are no spoilers possible! Some of these jerks are just trying to make you feel bad. Don't let 'em. Just remember that you won't KNOW until you know, and until you read it with your own eyes, any claim could be a falsehood. Anyone posting spoilers won't take away the experience that you will get from reading it yourself and finding out how she ties everything up. I mean, heck, for all I know the digital book I read could be a total fake (it looks real, and I don't know how someone could have faked the typesetting and illustrations, but it is theoretically possible). And if it is a total fake I don't care because it was definitely a fantastic and marvelous reading experience. Oh, and just in case you're worried -- yes, I did download and read the copy, but mine is still on the way this weekend and I'll be re-reading it -- I didn't use this as an excuse to not buy a copy of the book.

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 18th 2007

Lazerlike42 i have learned the writing of the book ends on page 784 no 754.. i would know since my job is to prove these things wrong....all hardbacks the page numbers u see online is from beginning of story to the end of the story....thus the page the last word of the story is on should be 784

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 18th 2007

i agree with ravenclaw07 completely... i mean in this week i have downloaded DH "books" and read them. but i obviously knew they were not realy and lets say its the fact that it was writting on microsoft word. but still, its really fuin because these fans work hard on what THEY think how the book goes. im just saying it here..... reavenclaw has apreety good point

Posted by hpfreak07 Jul 18th 2007

THESILENTCAT HOW SURE OF THIS ARE YOU, BECAUSE IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN THAT MEANS THAT THE SCANS ARE ALL FAKE CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM THIS AMERICAN PAGE COUNT DEBATE WE ARE HAVING

Posted by Lazerlike42 Jul 18th 2007

Thesilentcat------------- ------take a look at the last page in your hardback of OoTP, if you have one. The last page number in the story is 870. The book was reported as having 896 pages. Amazon.com still lists this number for the page total. I just counted all the dedications, blank pages, about the author pages etc., and their were 26 of them. 870+26=896. I have to say that I am positive you are mistaken, but if what you say is true, then it is a different practice from all of the past editions, soft and harcover.

Posted by StMichael333 Jul 18th 2007

when the book finally arrives, many of you will be here posting, page after page, chapter after chapter. and who will finish the book first?

Posted by hpgirl21053 Jul 18th 2007

i think i spoiled myself, by reading reviews that said: we won't tell u....but i deserve it, and i am glad i still don't know alot...but still....oh well, i think because i found the ending to the last book early, i think i just tested my luck to much....i could scream at myself...tears are seriously running down my face....i hope some of the stuff i heard isn't true...i think i HATE newspapers now!!!

Posted by hpaddict13 Jul 18th 2007

Mirdala (on the first page) First off, its RIDICULOUS that all this happened. :P okay anyways, so it IS a big deal to HP fans what is going on, they do not want spoilers going off everywhere! and spoilers DO ruin the expierence! what kind of HP fan are you? that is why MuggleNet is here! for people to be updated and especially during these last few moments before Harry Potter is over. And your sitting there saying "Stay off the interenet if you dont want spoilers" and I do not think that people dont like spoilers because they are "jealous they didnt get to read it first" or whatever you meant by that. your comment was ... well... i didnt like it :P

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 18th 2007

Well Lazerlike, did u post the scanned pages because you seem to WANT it to be true. It's not, its my job to do this. And yes i beilieve u are the mistaken one...but we will all be sure on saturday morning *MIDNIGHT*....but im sure these scans are fakes just like the other ones...thanks

Posted by Hans_Gruber Jul 18th 2007

The page with the last word on it ends on Page 759

Posted by StMichael333 Jul 18th 2007
