Scholastic tracks down Deathly Hallows leak The US book publisher has issued a statement this morning which reveals where a leak of Deathly Hallows occurred:

We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.

PRESS RELEASE:
Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail , beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.

We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st.

Scholastic is especially grateful to the other retailers and distributors for their careful attention to keeping the books secure until the release time and for planning thousands of spectacular midnight parties where fans will celebrate together. And we ask everyone, especially the media, to preserve the fun and excitement for fans everywhere.

The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited.

YAY 4 POTTER PUPPET PALS! "I found the source of the ticking. It's a PIPE BOMB!" "YAAAAAAAAAAY!" *BOOM!* Guys, just ignore jerkyhole. He obviously is doing this just to agrivate us, and bad-mouthing him just encourages him. Besides, he's gone now.

Skalors, that comment u made at the beginning of this page was good....thnx...GO CHEESECAKE!!!!

Whatever the case may be on these spoilers I for one am going to wait and buy the book after I here reviews about it. I personally don't mind spoilers but I think people should be responsible who decide to share them with other fans. My thougths on half of this stuff coming out, it's all hype and part of it is because of the hype that this stuff is happening. Take into consideration a worldwide release at midnight means that people in other countries will get it way ahead of people in other countries. So much for all of us taking the last journey together. I for one, if I find I don't like how the story goes will decide NOT to take the last journey. I have a free will and can decide if I don't like what I hear in reviews or from other fans...I can keep my money and go on with my life without every reading a single page of the book. This has all been hyped up with how much the book publisher was going to keep things secret...so...to me they just invited this to happen. I'm just glad I didn't pre-order anything this time, besides that point it'll not be spoilers after Saturday it will be confirmed facts that nobody can deny or change. I for one am not going to be one of the people that falls into this hype trap, so my advice is, wait if you haven't already ordered the book, If you don't have parties planned and still have some resonable sense in your head, simply wait. Buy the book at a resonable hour if you feel that you want to read the book. You shouldn't be forced or feel like you have to buy it just because other people are crawling over each other at midnight to be the first to get something. You are still a fan if you don't read it. This is a throwback to the 80's when people were fighting over cabbage patch kids. Well obviously some kids have already gotten their copy so you are not the first and there is nothing at all wrong with being the last to read the book. Like I said, If I don't like the outcome I can choose to not read it at all.

HBP was spoiled for me too, but I didn't whine or cry. I went to the midnight release, I bought the book, I read the book, I loved the book. So WHAT if I had read one or two sentences ahead of time? So WHAT if you know who dies? You realize you still have to figure out what the Horcruxes are? How different people factor into the plot? This book is only spoiled if you've read the whole thing: in which case you aren't spoiled as spoilage doesn't "apply" to folks that have done what they were going to do anyway. I know who dies. I have read the passages in which they die. But I am EXCITED to read the book, because I want to see how it happens! I want to go on an adventure with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I don't care if I already know where they'll end up, just as long as I don't know how they get there.

Heh, deepdiscount has always done stuff like ship things a little early than intended. I'm surprised Scholastic wasn't aware of something like this, since I guess you could say that deepdiscount is somewhat "infamous" for this :?. Kudos to those who got their hands on it early. Just don't be a punk and spoil it for the rest of us. Maybe brag it in our faces, but spoil us not! :D

Wootnow thats WRONG stop posting spoilers! I dont know if their true or not but please STOP!! AND THOSE WHO DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED STAY AWAY FROM THE COMMENTS!

Posted by whonext360 Jul 18th 2007

The Zendurl.com Book Scans have been taken down they are fake it says someone dies unfortunately I didn't think I would see anything and clicked it by accident and when u read the epilogue that person is alive so it doesn't all piece together...also I heard something about the margains not being like every HP hardcover...AND the epilogue ends on like 750 when the publishers made it clear that it would end on pg 780...sounds like a really good fan fiction if anything...the only thing I can't explain is the chapter pictures...??? Someon said Jo likes to do this kind of stuff before the books are released maybe its her doing all this to throw ppl off...

Posted by kprestonbrgs Jul 18th 2007

i think i may possibly have some proof that the scans of DH are not the real thing. however this depends on whether or not i am misinterpreting JK. With regards to Secret Keeps JK posted on her website: I was surprised that this question won, because it is not the one that I'd have voted for… but hey, if this is what you want to know, this is what you want to know! When a Secret-Keeper dies, their secret dies with them, or, to put it another way, the status of their secret will remain as it was at the moment of their death. Everybody in whom they confided will continue to know the hidden information, but nobody else. However in scans the following is on page 90: ' They were often joined by other Order members for dinner now, because the Burrow had replaced number twelve, Grimmaul Place as the headquarters. Mr. Weasley had explained that after the death of Dumbledore, their Secre-Keeper, each of the people to whom Dumbledore has confided Grimmauld Place's location to had become a Secret-Keeper in turn'. To me this clearly contradicts what JK has said! thoughts?

WHO HAS seen trouble at hogwarts and bananaphone? and potions class

Posted by linkfan882001 Jul 18th 2007

I think that that epilogue was fake because it ended on page 753 and Scholastic said that there were 784 pages. So something's off, and I'm saying that I think that it's the epilogue. It's fake.

Posted by YouKnowWhoIam Jul 18th 2007

PICKLES!!!

Posted by whonext360 Jul 18th 2007

The Whole Scan is fake trust me their is to much security!!!

Posted by medwards Jul 18th 2007

wootnow: just go away..................sir ius_lee: I love trouble at hogwarts and potions class! xD

Posted by wootnow Jul 18th 2007

the scans are real its undeniable front to back cover to cover its the book i dont know about all the web sites but on the file shareing ones its a 73 mb file with a picture of every page for it to be fake would be impossible with a hundred thousand copys its kind of undeniable the books are written so well with any spoiler like how dumbledore died hearing that doesnt spoil the story it just makes you want to read it more : ) i really wonder what that eye necklace means have to keep reading but my eyes hurt lol

Posted by CheeseLover Jul 18th 2007

YES! sirius_lee I've seen all of those! wootnow, don't be a jerkyhole. whonext360, Jo wouldn't do that to us.

Posted by Jenni_deWoolf Jul 18th 2007

Another MAJOR contradiction was the use of Polyjuice Potion.... I thought it was supposed to wear off after about half an hour or so..... right? Or am I remembering something else? Please tell me I'm right on this.

Posted by Ketchup4life Jul 18th 2007

Yes 2 sirius_lee! Yeah, you run away. : )

Posted by ellenfreak3 Jul 18th 2007

Someone on youtube posted the leaked answers...I couldn't avoid no matter how hard I tried because it was right there on the page in bold letters. All I did was type in Harry Potter and BAM. So I highly recommend to not go on youtube. No website is safe now. Ugh. I REALLY hope what I saw was a fake...

Posted by inspector Jul 18th 2007

Do not worry Cowen, i have found the ip of this jerkybastardhole and where he lives. My friends arew almost there now...

Posted by medwards Jul 18th 2007

wootnow: just stop. no one wants to hear it. the book is a fake. the anticipation is one of the best parts and just because you are weak and pathetic enough to look at spoilers doesn't give you the right to spoil it for the TRUE POTTER FANS. So just go elsewhere and leave everyone here alone because in case you haven't noticed: no one likes you at all. you're as bad as jerkyhole

Posted by asknask Jul 18th 2007

anyone want the book? lol want it? REALLY want it? well all u hav to do is wait a couple more days :p i ALREADY HAVE IT BUT IM NOT READING IT!!! if anyone wants the FIRST page, mail me at ask.halfbloodprince@gmail .com. I WONT SEND ANYTHING MORE... I DONT WANT TO SPOIL ANYONE... I HAVEN'T READ IT MYSELF EITHER!

Posted by suzydoodles Jul 18th 2007

If you need search and want to be really careful about spoilers go to chacha.com and have a guide search for you, just ask them to check the pages for spoilers before they send them to you. They will be more than happy to!

Posted by linkfan882001 Jul 18th 2007

wootnow: you are so ignorant. It's an elaborate hoax, and I tell those who put it together good effort, but they didn't catch the small things and that is what messed their whole thing up. The page count doesn't match and in the actual book part it has a major character dying and then that same character marrying another character in the epilogue. It's elaborate fan fiction. It doesn't even sound like J.K.R.'s writing. You can hope all you want to wootnow that those scans are true, but you can't argue with facts and I'm sure you're not THAT dumb.

Posted by rooon Jul 18th 2007

YES! IGNORE JERKEYHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by IgoRetla Jul 18th 2007

They had better go after the Baltimore Sun next. They blow chunks! Someone call Scholastic!!!

Posted by namara87 Jul 18th 2007

Posted by boons914 Jul 18th 2007

So that means that the spoiler with that horribly written Epilogue was true? darn.

Posted by medwards Jul 18th 2007

inspector: okay, I hate jerkyhole ten times more than the next person but finding his IP and tracking him down is just wrong. As much as I hate him, i would never want any REAL harm to come to him. he's just an idiot crying out for attention so lets just leave him alone and ignore him, okay?

Posted by CheeseLover Jul 18th 2007

If anyone's bored, follow this youtube link to a harry potter music video. The song is Shut Up by Simple Plan, and very fitting to what we all want jerkyhole and other spoilers to do. http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=JwfZR0hu7N4

Inspector, that is illegal. Stop it now. He is gone.

Posted by linkfan882001 Jul 18th 2007

boons914: no it wasn't true

Posted by misty99888 Jul 18th 2007

My friend just called me to say he got an early copy from deepdiscount.com. He told me that the company called and said if he waited to read it until Saturday they would give him $50 and a t-shirt. Thankfully my friend is taking the deal and not reading the book until July 21!

Posted by potzyfayce Jul 18th 2007

you guys are pathetic. seriously. you all knew this was going to happen. it happened for OOTP and HBP. spoiler websites would pop up at you anyways, so you should have avoided the computer for a week. so its your own fault you saw the ending. personally, i like looking at spoiler sites and then getting the book to see how much is true. i did it for the last two books, so don't even get off on saying that they are fake. THEY ARE NOT. for the next few days, avoid the computer before i die from your bratty whinning. who cares if people got the book before you? its just a book. sure, i'm excited for it, but i won't go ranting and raving over the internet saying how unfair it is to not get the book.

Posted by poundmaker Jul 18th 2007

Hang on, didn't some bookstore sell the books early last time? Anyway, there will always be people who have no life trying to ruin other people's lives. They will never be able to destroy the magic of Harry Potter. We do not yet know if it is true or not, so the only real way will be to read the books at midnight saturday, which I will be doing. Just ignore all potential spoilers, try to think of them as fake.

Posted by medwards Jul 18th 2007

potzyfayce: or we could just skip over the spoilers.

Posted by inspector Jul 18th 2007

OK, no real harm will be done to the beacher bastard. At least, nothinmg illegal will be done, ı assure...
