NY Times posts early review of DH
After receiving an early copy of Deathly Hallows from an unnamed bookstore, the New York Times has posted a review of the book which also contains a few plot details.UPDATE: In response, JK Rowling has spoken out about this New York Times review and numerous others:
"I am staggered that American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry’s final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry’s last adventure for fans."Bloomsbury has also addressed this concern:
The release date and time embargo of 00.01AM BST on Saturday July 21st is being enforced unflinchingly and without exception by the publishers. We confirm that all Bloomsbury’s customers in 93 countries worldwide are robustly supporting this embargo time to ensure secrecy for the children and adult readers of Harry Potter.Read the entire press release:
PRESS RELEASE:
Bloomsbury Publishing, originating publisher of Harry Potter, was extremely dismayed to learn last night about early sales in America of a small number of copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows prior to the UK, US and worldwide embargo time agreed with retailers, suppliers, and all third parties involved of 00.01AM British Summer Time on Saturday July 21st 2007.
We are aware of some speculation in the media that internet “spoilers” purporting to be extracts from the book have come from the few early copies sold. We confirm that this is not true as is clear from the press release of July 18th issued by Scholastic Inc, the US publisher of Harry Potter. The “spoilers” remain unauthenticated.

We confirm that all Bloomsbury’s customers in 93 countries worldwide are robustly supporting this embargo time to ensure secrecy for the children and adult readers of Harry Potter.
We would like to thank our customers and suppliers again for their full support given in so many different ways. We would also like to thank the worldwide media for their own observance of, and strict policing of, the embargo to preserve the secrecy of the plot for the readers of Harry Potter.

WOW!! thanks for the heads up!!! I've been trying to hard not to have it spoiled for me and i'm keeping it that way!!! But i soo can't wait!!!
OMG this is really hard to control myself and NOT READ IT!!!!
oh man, it's really winding down, but o'm gonna hold out for the actual book. no spoilers for me. :] and this is the first time i got into the first few comments. pretty awesome.
that's APPALLING. i am ABSOLUTELY APPALLED. nyt used to have so much integrity.
Why would anyone wait TEN YEARS to read this book only to SETTLE for a stupid spoiler???? WHY WOULD ANYONE CONSIDER SPOILING THEIR EXPERIENCE BY LOOKING IT UP? That is utterly RETARDED!
*doesn't read* That sucks
how are they getting it early, and why would they want to ruuin it?
I REFUSE TO READ IT, I REFUSE TO READ IT!!!!
I saw this review before Mugglenet posted the link, so I plunged in with no knowledge of spoilers. Imagine my horror when I found them!
not reading not reading not reading not reading...*signs off computer until done reading DH*
Stupid newspaper!!!!!!! : (
I am so not going to read it.... Going to turn of computer. Evil spoilers.
well, i am saddened to say, but since i tested my luck and without reading any of the book. i was leaked...although not fully, but i guess i deserve it....but i think i am still unsure of some of the stuff...oh well. D:
I read the review but am not really that upset over it The spoilers arnt THAT big...
NOT READING. NOT READING. >w< *Puts fingers in ears.* LA LA LA LA LA LALALALALALALALA.
I am not going to look at the internet, watch tv or read any newspapers until I have finished reading DH
why would they do that! spoilers stink.
I read it, and was a bit shocked about it. I am not going to spoil it, but I saw this coming a long time ago in book 5.
Kinda sad that The New York Times would stoop so low... :(. 2 Days 1 hour 48 minutes for me!
Must not read! Must not read!!! Ugh, this is difficult :[ Someone slap me!!
i read, and it confirms my hallows belief. also, spoiler free comments for the last news page and this 1 YAY!.
Just so everyone knows, the review doesn't spoil the whole book. I read it before being warned too and I can tell you, it only spoils two things (which I won't mention explicitly I promise): what "Deathly Hallows" means and how many characters die (approximately). The review actually got me really excited and I don't regret reading it. However, it should have had a spoiler warning at the beginning.
OH GEE! I could not keep myself from reading it. and... I'm gonna be crying for weeks after I read this book, I will...
Ben, please take this down, it's an extremely tempting piece of news, and I just got two deaths spoiled for me, hidden in a leroy jenkins video.
It's really hard not to read it! I just want to highlight it all and read it. But I'm not going to! I've waited 10 years for this one book. Wow.... 10 years... Guys, how many of you have realized that we grew up with HP?
i am SOOOO glad i did NOT read the paper today then... i get the new york times and i usually read it. definetly NOT reading these spoils. this is getting RIDICULOUS with the amount of spoils. its fd up! i can hold out
I must not read the spoiler, I must not read the spoiler... argh, I highlighted it for, like, a quarter of a second, saw thee words, and chickened out...oh my, THE STRESS IS TOO HUGE!!!
Thats really ballsy of NY Times to do that...and not illegal i guess? Could JKR press charges for that?
Why did scholastic said the book had 784 pages when it seems to only have 759 pages? At least thats what it says on the review left column below the picture of the book. Didn't dare to read it though. But I'm really disappointed, thats like 25 pages short of what I was expecting.
I trust that it's a good review. :D I'm not going to read it until I have the book in my hands. I haven't been too spoiled, and I'm going to try and keep it that way. :] Can't wait to read it once I've read DH though.
I am not going to read it. I am not going to read it. (As I write it with my own blood.) I am so tempted. But it is only 2 more days. I think I can, I think I can.
Ermm.....I'm not reading it. Spoilers are EVIL! Why is Mugglenet posting SPOILERS?!
AHHHH! WHY THE HECK WOULD MUGGLENET PUT UP A REVIEW BEFORE THE BOOK COMES OUT?! ARE THEY TRYING TO GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK?!!!! MUST NOT READ!!
Well, The review was slightly boring - but good in a sense of not-a-13-year-old-readini ng-it way. It spoilded nothing for me, i dont care actually if I find out who lives and who dies cause its like you'll find out anyway by reading the book....whats the difference? I'd prefer to be prepared actually...
it only spoils one thing, but its major, being the title
That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Re ad-Yet shall not be read yet. >:[ Stop tempting us!
don't read the baltimore sun one...it gives way more away, and i would be mad if mugglenet posts it on here, cause it gives on more thing away, that they actually said that they wouldn't, but i expected it from the beginning of the books...but i am still sad, but lucky i don't know everything yet....(i am really just trying to comfort myself by writing this, D:)
Great Review, a little info below. I am here to let you all know I believe with 100% certainty that the photographed book is FAKE. That being said I believe I have found legitimate spoilers and there is recorded images of borders employees with the books and the pallet of H.P boxes behind them. The give a lowdown on all the deaths and major plot points. So anyone who doesnt want to be spoiled better avoid the media the next few days. And all real potter fans who read the photo book new that it wasnt JK's writing. Some loser actually wrote all that bound it and photographed every page thats sick. Respect your fellow Potter fans , its your choice whether or not to read spoilers but NO ONE has the right to ruin it for others.
I read it highlighting one word at a time in case I wanted to abort the mission...it doesn't give away anything that I didn't already know...EXCEPT FOR THE LAST TWO LINES, however those don't give away anything except for the basic plot...i.e. in Goblet of Fire, Harry participates in the Triwizard Tournament.(not the final outcome.) If I were you, I would GO AHEAD AND READ IT ALL!!
Wow, so I'm not reading the review. I really don't want the book ruined for me. I closed my eyes as I scrolled down the comments too, just in case. But oh man, its soooo hard to keep my self control. I can't believe people are doing this. It's just fricken... stupid. That's what it is. Why would they put a review out? That's just ridiculous. It's just over two days now. Come on guys, we can do this!!!
I read it. The article didn't say much to impress me. It makes me more excited to read the book for myself though. But then again maybe I just didn't understand a couple things in the article. :/ But for the most part it just says it's a "certain type" of book. I mean duh, we expect it to be full of hardship. But I'm still voting on a happy ending.
Wow! Reading all these stories make me suprised that i haven't read a spoiler yet. yay!
I think is is rediculous that the newspaper can't wait four days to give readers enough time to finish the book. Yes, there are tons of pages on the internet that contain spoilers, but no one knows if those are actually true. When this review is comming from the New York Times it is obviously true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe they have the nerve to release this when knowing that there are millions of fans trying to stay away from spoilers. We only have two more days to wait before we can read all night long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Red Fawkes, same here! I CANT read it. Not when I grew up with Harry...*closes eyes* I will not read it...I will not read it...I've waited too long for this... After reading the comments though, WHY would they say what the Deathly Hallows are?? WHY WHY WHY??!!??!! No. I cant read it.
WOW, I'm having such a hard time not reading this. I want to know so badly, but then again, I want to have the great experience of actually reading the book, and finding out everything then. I've managed to wait all this time and have avoided all the spoilers so far, just a couple more days. I would really love if the publishers decided that everything was getting out too quickly, so just bump up the release and release it TOMORROW!
