FRED, LUPIN, TONKS, COLIN CREEVEY, HEDWIG, MAD-EYE, AND DOBBY, REST IN PEACE.
I wasn't saying his was evil..or at least that's not what I meant. I was just surprised that he would go along with the whole Inferi army or people suffering but it was for the 'greater good' sort of thing. Obviously he is not evil even then..he was young and ambitious and it was natural to want to be great. He's definitely not evil though, because he truly felt remorse for his actions I believe after what happened with his sister and well the Dumbledore we know and love (at least I do :D) is not the same as the one who went along with Grindelwald.
I love that Harry Potter fans can spend literally YEARS theorizing about what is going to happen - who's going to live and who's going to die, but the second the spoilers appeared, we just avoided them like the plague. It was excellent.
i can't believe it's over D: ugh. i've grown up with harry like many others and it's so sad that it's over and i mean, that's it!
rockbox122 - I think you're right. At 17, alot of people have ill-formed concepts of how life should be. Someone like DD who is a good person, though still immature, probably rationalized that muggles would appreciate wizarding influence in their lives. Fortunately, as he says, he realized it wouldn't work out, and learned to avoid temptation. I think this is similar to people like Regulus who at first thought Voldemort was on the right track, wanting to support Pureblood ideals, then began to realize that he was actually a monster.
AMEN! rmg179!!!!! and fuzzyslippersx23, i know what you mean!!!!! but that was excellent!!!! and Mugglecast (which I'm listening to right now) Is my knew favorite thing!!!! yay!!!!!
I loved the book, but sometimes i barely knew what was going on. Mrs. Weasley was amazing about time she showed what she could do. I can't wait to see the final battle in the movie, especially Kreacher and the House-elfs :). I was really upset when Dobby died. For the longest time i thought Harry died so i was histerical in the bathroom. So glad the trio survived. I know a lot of people thought that Harry's childrens names were cute but i thought that epilogue was kinda corny. I wish we knew more about what happened to everyone. Can't wait for the movie.
IT ABSOLUTELY BROKE MY HEART WHEN SNAPE WAS DYING AND ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS LOOK INTO HARRY'S EYES, BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST LIKE LILY'S.
None of the HP books seem to start slow after you've read Order of the Phoenix! lol. I'll tell you one prediction I completely got wrong. Hagrid's death. It seemed so obvious to me. Heck, it almost happened twice in the book but he never died. I hate to say but I was actually hoping he would die so my prediction would be right. Another thing, how was Hagrid being controlled by the death eaters at the end. The imperius curse? Why then would hagrid still be himself mentally? Maybe I missed something while I was reading. ONe last thing...............even though it was obvious through the whole series I'm really glad Hermione and Ron got together. I was starting to worry that they never would. Then Harry/Hermione shippers would be like "well at least we were right in assuming that Ron and Hermione wouldn't hook up".
hpgirl_91: When Voldemort left the Diadem in the Room of Requirement, not only was he rushed on time because of his meeting with Dumbledore (whihc he obviously couldn't be late for; He didn't want Dumbledore suspicious) I think he did leave a curse on it. It seems that everyone is forgetting that the Diadem was exposed and suffered from the fiendfyre, which, as Hermione says, is one of the few wyas to destroy horcruxes. For neither Harry or the others laid a hand on it; it imploded on it's own. Lord_V: The paralleling between Dumbledore vs. Grindelwald with WWII and Voldemort's regime being almost exactly alike to Hitler's IS important and necessary. J.K has always tried to maintain that the Wizarding wolrd and it's events directly parallel to ours. And by making Voldemort adopt a Hitler-esque regime, she is giving a warning on the dangers of Racism. luv_hp_4ever: Argh....Raped by exclamation points DX (lol) f0rtunecookie15: Of course it's not coincidence! She obviously planned for the family to carry names related to Stars, Legends, or Stars and their legends. The only reason I can imagine this is perhaps, because they are pure-blodded, they feel they deserve the name of those twinkling, seemingly untouchable lights in the sky? Like they are special, untouchable, and to be respected and revered. iheartharry55: Exactly. :D
I think....I *hope* that the way she left this so open might mean JK WILL write some more books. We don't know their careers, how they got them, what happened as they reached adulthood. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but she said, "Harry's tale comes to a very final end, I'm afraid" but really....it didn't!!!!! I really want to know what became of all of the other characters!!!
I'm worried about the movie...I don't see them being able to get it right. It'll be really hard to explain the Hallows and the horcruxes to the audience as well as everything else in an appropriate time frame. I hope they don't butcher Snape's death and the memory part. Also the whole Dumbledore/Grindelwald/Ba thilda story line will be really confusing to those who haven't read the books. I dunno I'm not going to get my hopes up for the movie version to be good..but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I love how she ended the book!!!!! it was sooo good!!!!! and kerfuffle, thanks for clearing that..... i wasn't sure...... BUT I CAN'T STAND THAT FRED DIED!!! AHHH!!! omflvp............. it's just as bad as breaking up a couple...... i love fred.... *cries* once again.....
So I'm listening to the podcast, and I'm curious, how did you all first start reading Harry?? I'll share my story if anyone would like.....
I read the book but I must have missed it because didnt jk say that someone will learn magic late in life? who the heck was it?? anybody know? i dont want to have to read the whole book again just to see if i can find it.
jens none of us so far found a specific instance. Bummer! I'm already afraid of how much is going to have to be left out of the movie, but then I think a lot depends on how Movie 6 comes out.
ya jens..... I wonder too...................... ........ I LOVE THE BOOK!!!!! but i'm still being eaten by the fact that Fred died.......
she did say that though didnt she or did i imagine it?!?!
I hear alot of people saying that Snape's death is unecessary. After much thought, I have to disagree. Snape HAD to die, because, otherwise, Harry would have never gotten those memories. Also, Voldemort would have never gotten the idea that he was the true master of the Elder wand, letting Harry have the advantage of suprise over him. When it comes to the memories, If Voldemort had not killed Snape, how would Snape have given them to Harry? Voldemort would have noticed if Snape had tried to "quietly" disappear, even for a second, to get those memories to Harry. And, if Harry and Snape had really met, do you think Harry would have accepted them? Remember, all the anger Harry holds for this man: He puts some Blame on Snape for Sirius' death, and views him as murderer and traitor of Dumbledore, and the Order. IT is likely that Harry would have tried to duel Snape or something of the sort, which would have accomplished nothing, would have been noticed by Voldemort, thereby giving Voldemort a chance to catch Harry unguarded. And to tell you the truth, In a way Snape DID sacrifice himself for Harry. It's obvious that he knew that the trio was there with him, yet he said nothing, gave no acknowledgment, and allowed himself to be killed by Nagini. I think that He knew that the only way to get to Harry was to appeal to Harry's better side; He knew Harry would pity his death, and so took the chance, and, through this manner, gave Harry his memories, completed his promise to Dumbledore, and died looking into the eyes inherited from the women he'd always loved.
MrsRoxstarPotter: my cousin first introduced Harry Potter to my older sister. She read it and liked it a lot. I actually made funofher for liking it (Curse me, I know) Then I don't know, my sister was just like one day, "Why don't you try reading them?" I was eight years old when I decided to pick up Sorcerer's Stone and read it. And here I am now, bawling that it's over. Anyways, my order for the books 1. PoA 2. GoF 3.DH 4. HBP 5. OotP 6. CoS 7. SS
I find it funny how everyone is like "I'M SO DISAPPOINTED! SHE LEFT SO MUCH STUFF UNANSWERED" and then they start talking only about the epilogue. Maybe JK wanted you to wonder a little bit. I'm personally more concerned about questions unanswered from earlier books. THE ONE QUESTION I ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW: HOW DID FRED AND GEORGE DISCOVER THE CORRECT WORDS FOR USING THE MARAUDER'S MAP?
It is going to be really hard to do movie 7. All those bits in the tent, i mean it was just so dragging on. LIke move, tent, argue, more tent and argue over and over. At the end it would have been nice, besides giving his son Severus the middle name, for Harry to have been able in public, to aknowledge Snape...possibly at a memorial service for everyone who died. If you think about it, Snape is the hero throughout the books...the real hero because he didn't want anyone to know about what he was doing. He had a depressing life and had to live with the fact that Voldemort had killed his love. And i do believe that Snape loved Lily in every love possible, brotherly, platonically, and romantically. Lily was his escape. He was such a introverted person but he would risk humiliation at school to sleep in front of Griffindor common room just so he could apologize again to Lily, even though james potter could have come out at any moment and tormented him again. This book proves that no one is perfect, (snape, dumbledore, james) but that anyone who can love, is the best sort of person....snapes "best side"
jens - On the issue of someone using magic later in life: The most persuasive idea that has been posted so far is the change of heart that Dudley has in the beginning of the book. Not magic, in the wand-waving sense but magical in a deeper way. Something to ponder, I guess.
I agree with most people that I would have liked more info in the end, but I can also appreciate the fact that she left it so open. If you think about it JKR is a writer she sees the value of children not only reading but writing as well. She knows of the fanfiction and I am sure she has seen how much people have written based on her books. It is wonderful that she has inspired so much of the world to read in a day and age when technology and video games seem to rule. But she will have an even greater impact on the world by spawning the inspiration of writing as well. Yes fanfiction is just that but I have found many authors that have the potential to go on and be great writers of original pieces as well. Not to mention it leaves it a bit more ready for her to return to the Magical world should she ever have the desire. That said I still want answers, I feel like I am missing closure to a huge part of my life. So I am still with ya in wanting more I can just understand why she would have left it at that.
ROCKBOX122- Thank you! And why did Harry never tell them they were in the presence of its creators??? To this day, the map insulting Snape is one of my favorite HP moments. P S As to how we got Pottered, my two best friends dragged me "kicking and screaming" to the first movie. I owe them!!
that is sooo not the answer i wanted.. oh well it'll have to do. THANX. i was really hoping that someone would learn MAGIC late in life
DOES ANYONE THINK THE HARRY POTTER CRAZE IS GOINIG TO DIE DOWN A LITTLE NOW THAT THERE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ANYMORE NEW BOOKS (WE BELIEVE)? I HOPE IT REMAINS POPULAR LIKE LOTR AND STAR WARS. WHEN I GET MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS I'LL MAKE SURE TO INTRODUCE THESE BOOKS TO THEM!
PotterLove06: I won't curse you b/c you've redeemed yourself.... lol jkjk!!! My Story- my friend was staying in our house b/c her apartment flooded, and after, as a thank you, she bought two copies of this "cute looking book" (SS)...... who knew??! lol, it was in 1998, and after my siblings read it and said how good it was I did too. I was just talking to her, and I was like... who would've guessed? and I thanked her again! lol. my order- DH, GOF, HBP, OOTP, COS, SS ................. rockbox122: they are fred and george!!!! that's it!!1 *sniff* FRED!!!! *cries*
My theory on that is that her editors cut it out. I was very disappointed that Filch or Mrs. Figg or someone didn't use magic late in life. :( Also, did anyone else notice that the US versions are only 759 pages long- not 784!!! This mad me so worried that mine is missing pages but I don't think that it is. I wonder what those 15 pages might have contained.
My story- my 2nd grade teacher was reading SS to us and i got another copy because she wasn't reading it fast enough:-] From then I had to get COS and the rest is history. My order DH, OOTP,POA,HBP,SS,COS,GOF.
I laughed, I cried, It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I definetly though of Mugglenet when the book mentioned Potterwatch!!! I though JKR gave Mugglenet a nice "nod" there. Congrats. Gotta read it again. Can't wait to hear Jim Dale read it!!!!!! IMG I can't believe the series is over. I need therapy!
snoolo - you just took the thoughts right from my head. I said something similar earlier today but you've said it much better. Also, I think my biggest surprise with this book is that the climax was at the very end the way it was. Maybe I heard this on Mugglecast - I was with the idea that we'd have at least a few chapters on rebuilding and moving on. I was totally looking forward to seeing people like Umbridge get tossed out on their pink butts. I feel slightly cheated. *tear*
Most of you will probably disagree with me but I got to say it- the book seemed rushed to me. There were so many unanswered questions that we were told would be answered and the tone of it felt so different than the other books. The trio spent way too much time just camping in various places. ANd, in reading the comments, why has no one mentioned Luna? Didn't she die? I admit to being half asleep reading the last half but I remember a line about her looking just as though she were sleeping. The deaths seemed random and Hedwig seemed so unnecessary. I don't want to be just critical though- it was amazing on alot of levels. The battle scenes at Hogwarts made me jump out of my chair cheering. Very cool to see all the various creatures fighting and even the animated suits of armor. I feel though that JKR doesn't fully appreciate how much we all loved the characters other than the trio. I really wanted to know more about them. At least some scenes about what was happening at hogwarts. The horcruxes were way too easy to destroy although it was cool different people killed each seperate one.can't wait til forums open to talk about this!
My grandma bought me the book but it was actually the second one really, all well it didn't really matter I don't think, I read the second one first not realizing it was the second one (lol). I hope that when I'm older and have kids that'll remember Harry Potter and have them read it..maybe even my own copies. Because even though its just a book to some HP was much more than that to me, it was like a best friend. Though hard as it is to believe it will probably die out seeing as it's already had the movies and merchandise etc made unlike LOTR. But I hope I don't forget the book that made me really enthusiastic to read bigger books and take it more seriously. Or even make me consider being a writer myself.
MrsRoXtarPotter: At the release party of the book at books-a-million I asked the people there the same question after we were done playing HP trivia and the lady who worked there said the EXACT same thing. "well, they are fred and george!"
loll. anyone know why the 24 hours between avada k and arriving at dursleys was important?? and i thought hagrid DID die!! sigh. i missed the ford anglia and i've givven up on the 'did magic later in life'. will a kind soul help me?? plz?
Albuseveruspotter: when harry is doing the duel dance with voldemort he tells him that he’s seen what voldemort becomes- it’s the part where he tells voldemort to try to feel some remorse…I think he just reverts back to the child he will always be…he’s has this kind of arrested development thing going on _____________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ ________________ arpit87 : As for the question about the missing 24 hours: What everyone is referring to is the time between the murder of Lily and James to the time Harry was delivered on the Dursley's doorsteps. Lily and James were murdered on Halloween night. We see Vernon go to work the next day. Then in the evening Hagrid brings Harry to Dumbledore at the Dursleys. That's a 24 hour-ish period. I thought it well done with Harry pretending to be dead. I kept wondering how he was going to pull it off- if he was going to be found out. Just brilliant stuff! I loved when the Order and Dumbledore's Army showed up! It was wonderful. I had read over Fred's death- guess I was reading to fast. And Lupin and Tonks deaths. Until Harry talked about not wanting anyone else to die for him. Then I had to go back. I didn't get the whole "look...at...me" part until I read some of the explanations on here. So Harry's mother's eyes helped save him after all- it was the reason why Snape helped as he did throughout the books. James's looks but Lily's eyes. His enemy and his love all in one. Very interesting stuff. I also didn't get the part about the whimpering childlike thing (Voldemort) in Limbo (the place between life and death/heaven and hell) until reading the comments. As for Harry and Vol being related, that's just a third way in which they're connected. But that does not mean that Harry was a descendent of Slytherin because obviously the family tree branched out and whatever Slytherin is on isn't the one Harry is on. Remember pur...
Also wasn't it cool how the dedication was in the form of Harry's scar?? I thought that was thoughtful.
lol rockbox122: it's truly that simple!!! lol I love them.... *cry once more!* sgwilliamson: yes you owe them!!! lol and iluvhary1017:that's cute!.................... anyone know where episode 101 is?! I dunno how to get it?!!!! HELP!!! lol
oh man! How great was that book? I LOVVVEDDD it! Not gonna lie i thought it was a little slow at the beginning where Harry, Hermione, and Ron were in the forest(s) looking for the Horcruxes, but then things finally started to pick up once they got to Xenophilius Lovegoods house...overall it was great, and i LOVED the epilogue at the end. How great was that, and did anyone else CRACK up when Ron said something about freeing the House Elves in Hogwarts and Hermione threw herself at him, HAHAHA! That was amazing. Harry's reaction was priceless. I loved it, I can't even find words to describe how great it was. I will admit the losses upset me, I cried SO much when Fred passed, God that was awful. And to see the truth FINALLY come out about Snape was FABULOUS! I loved every second of it. The book, for a third time was AMAZING! I hope everyone who reads it is as happy with the ending as i am. And eventhough Harry's journey is finally at an end...he's ALWAYS with us crazy fans who have stuck by him since he was 11 years old.
I LOVED it!!!!!!!! I cried in despair, sorrow, pity. I laughed and cheered as battles were fought and good defeated evil and when some evil turned good. The things that I loved most about this book was that it was soaked in hope, love, and goodness. It was heartfelt, it was brilliant, it was memorable. But most importantly, it was MAGICAL.
I think you know there are SPOILERS here, and in my post too, but just in case, I don't want to ruin it to anyone, ANYONE. OMG, THAT WAS GREAT. I don't know if it was a great ending, it was weird and kind of hurried, she could have used a couple hundred pages more. But I'm so glad everything turned out ok, I wasn't going to stand anything else after Fred's death and I was SO sure Ron was going to die, I was crying in advance. The ending was so short for such a long series, now fan fiction is going to pop like daysies all around. We didn't get to see the Weasleys all reunited, or a heart-to-heart talk between Ron, Hermione and Harry, with their true feeling involved. I think Rowling will we pressured into writing something else, even if she's 80 by the time she accepts. I need people who read it, I don't have any friends who have finished. I need forums or something. It's such a weird feeling, I do think I'm sad, but I'm happy because it all went well and I loved the book. Plus, I haven't been obsessed over HP in over a year, so I do LOVE it, but....well, had I read it last year, I'd be more devastated. I think it has to sink in. TAAAALK TO MEEE, PLEASE, lol.
Prevell Re: dedicaton scar. OMG Thank you. Read the dedicayion, but was anxious to start the book. totally missed that. good eye
albuseveruspotter - I didn't realize until I read it in a theory that there was a "missing day." To my knowledge, JKR never mentioned it, the fandom just assumed it would be explained. I really thought we would learn what James and Lilly did for a living. Also, I bawled like a baby when Sirius died, but the only part in DH that *really* got to me was Snape's memories. I've always thought he was on the good side and I'm glad Harry knows the truth. Hate takes a lot of energy and he didn't deserve to spend the rest of his life wondering what the truth was.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was first mentioned to me when I was 8 years old (The year 200; Yeah, I started kinda late >>;). I specifically remember one of my 'Gifted' (Elementary School Honors) teachers mentioning the words 'Harry' 'Voldemort' and 'Magic'. I think she may have also asked something like: 'And Why does Harry's fight with Voldemort something-something...." (lol, Bad memory). Anyways, For some reason I felt the need to read the book, and that afternoon I went with my mom to Costco, Where I saw the Book being sold. After much begging I got it, and spent the entire night reading it, just over and over again. By early morning the next day, I was in love. I'm not sure how I got the rest of the books, but I remember that I had to read Prisoner of Azkaban in parts at a nearby Walden Books, because I couldn't find/afford it. I didn't actually buy the book until 3rd or 4th grade (Is it me, or is the hardcover version of Prisoner of Azkaban the hardest one to find? I only saw it once in a bookstore, and I already owned the Paperback by then). I got all the other books regularly; And so have passed 8 years of my life; I'm now 15. :D
I must have missed this but how are Harry and voldemort related?
thanx shana! tho i'm still confused. lol
Miliii: you wanna talk... bout what... i know HP.....but what? I'm willing to talk!! I LUV THE BOOK!!!!!! BUT I MISS FRED!!!!! *cries again*
Ummmmm, does anyone on here have myspace? I would appreciate some HP friends? myspace.com/rockbox122.
The book was so good i'm so happy!!! I read the last chapter and the epilogue twice and will start reading the whole book again as soon as i can...can't wait till the forums open up...mugglecast is nice, but even if they are the "experts" they can't beat thousands of fans conversing together!
