@sgwilliamson, albuseveruspotter Well ... so Harry and Riddle had a common ancestor... and that perhaps mean Harry is descendent of Slytherin... So mugglenet people got it wrong then? or JKR mucked up things like she did with most of the book?
armormew: so do u mean that the brothers wanted to master death with those three things?or?
Going into this book, I thought I knew that Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione would end up together, but I really started to think differently when Ron left and then Harry and Hermione ended up holding hands in Godric's hollow. Part of me really thought it was going to just be them two for good.
sgwilliamson thanks but did lily know that snape liked him i mean come on how obvious was that its like the thing with ron and the locet horocrux how didnt he know that harry and hermione were just friends i mean like throught order of the pheniox shes was practily pushing cho and harry together how stupid could he be! I still cant believe dumbledore was like on the side with a bad guy who would kow the guy loved socks for godness sake!
hmm JKR got quite a # of things wrong, even in past books (eg order of james & lily ias they came from LV's wand in the graveyard) but she seemed a bit more careless with this one. sad.
__Bellatrix__ ok so it is a story about 3 brothers who were crossing a bridge and when they were able to cheat death death apeared and tried to trick them. so he gave them each a like wish. one of them wanted a undefeatable wand, the other wanted a stone to restore the dead ie bring them back, and the third wanted the invisibility cloak. now the first one ended up dying when someone attacked him for his wand. the second one died because when he tried to bring back the life of his lost lover, she couldnt come back fully so he killed himself. and the third one died a natural death that as calm and harmless basically. and so they say if you have all three of the Deathly Hallows you were the controler of death basically. you should read the book itmakes alot more sense if you read it
ok..u are right !!
okay, so it could have been better- but was ok. It was def by far not the best of jk's writing. It really did seem rushed. It seemed to start out very intense from the beginning, but the intensity never loosened up. The period when Ron left seemed very tedious and almost made me want to stop reading. Also, a lot of the hallows/ horcruxes stuff was confusing. Still, a lot of questions are unanswered. ex: why did the weasley's have 7 kids and what was Ginny's significance. I was really hoping for some kind "why "#7" " explanation. "7" has been used for everything- from school years, to kids, to possible horcruxes (even though there were 8), etc. I also wished Ginny could have been with them (the trio) more. For a lot of the book, it was just the trio- so I wished it had included a lot of the characters throughout the book besides just the battle scene. (which I thought was great). I only cried a little when Dobby died and when Harry knew he had to "die". Other than that, I think there was SOO much death, it just wasn't sad anymore. I cried when Cedric, Sirius (we didn't get a good explanation of that at all :( ), and when Dumbledore died. But I just didn't get the same effect with DH. At first the I thought epilogue was ok, but then I realized that she left a LOT of the characters out. What did/do they do with the rest of their lives..? ***What do you guys think about HARRY being the one to do magic in "later" life??*** So far no one has come up with this. Since he technically did do magic in "later" life. JK never specified that it had to be a squib, so what do you think.*** I really hope JK answers our questions soon either with a charity book or on her website- because there is still SO much left open and unended.....
Quote from Wikipedia: *************YESSSSSSPOIL ERSSSSSSSSS*********** T he Deathly Hallows are three mythical magical objects. The symbol for these items appears as an equilateral triangle with an inscribed circle inside it, and a vertical line inside the triangle, going from the upper angle down through the circle. The three objects were the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility. http://e n.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deat hly_Hallows_%28objects%29
The deathly hallows if combined together will conquer death itself, that is if a person had all of them at once. Notice here, how Harry drops the stone before he is to acquire the wand... and then finally, he gives up a chance to defeat death itself... not just Voldemort... and this is what the prophecy said actually... the one who survive will come to full power... and Harry gives it up and according to Rowling this is being more powerful... also Dumbledore tells Harry, that Harry is the better man... fitting as the beacon is passed...
Was anyonet hinking that when harry ron and hermione followed neville into the room of requirment where the old DA was why was Cho there wasnt she in the year above harry?? well it was harrys last year at hogwarts so why was she there maybe jk rowling made a mistake oh well i bet i would to :)
I have another suggestion for the "Who performed magic late in life?" question. Is it possible that Neville's grandmother used magic when she was at Hogwarts? I mean, she did say she was going to see Neville battle. But I would have hoped Jo would've actually showed that scene if it happened.
wow finished the book in a little over 36 hours just couldnt put it down it was fantastic the only downfall was the end after the war harry goes to speak to ron and herrmione but then it jumps to 19 years later i feel there could have been a litttle more at that point before skipping the 19 years
When Fred died, I shut the book and cried actual tears for five whole minutes before opening the book again and continuing to read. It was a great book, but man was I mightily disappointed with the epilogue. It was just too happy sappy. In fact, it was so happily ever after that I almost wished Voldemort would pop out and scream Avada Kedavra. hehe...I'm definitely kidding. I wish she mentioned more in the epilogue! It was obvious Harry and Ginny would marry as would Ron and Hermione, tell us something we don't know. And I wanted the epilogue to be more serious, not all lovey dovey. I wanted Percy to take over working in Fred's place at the joke shop in his honor. What do you guys think of that?
harry_p_7, The reason Harry didn't die is because, not only does Harry have a bit of Voldemort in him, but Voldemort had a bit of Harry in him (in the form of Harry's blood containing Lily's sacrifice). As long as some tiny part of that sacrifice is still in existence, Harry has a way to live. From what I gather, Harry could be killed a million times and still be able to come back as long as Voldemort's alive. However, Harry won't die when Voldemort does because Voldemort already killed off that little piece of Harry's soul when Harry 'died'. Very confusing, I know ...
WHY DIDNT HARRY DIE? i dont understand that point how he died and then he was b/x life and death.. i am completely confused!! is it b/c the Deathly Hallows?? some one plz help
uggh i got my copy around 2pm on saturday, and i read 400 pgs, and im about to finish it ..... its deff not her best book though..
They wre both brilliant podcasts, but I wish I'd been at Waterstone's.
WHY!!!!!!!! WHY DID MOLLY USE AVADA KEDAVRA??? WHY DID MCGONAGALL USE THE CURSE????? WHY DID EVERYONE GO MAD???????
2 albuseveruspotter if he didnt regret all the things he did when he died he would hav been left there unwanted an 2 harry_p_ he survived cos voldemort took harrys blood 2 regain his body an dumbeldore said"ur blood in his veins ,harry, lilys protectin inside both of u,he tethered u 2 live while he lives"
I really loved this book. I'm one of those people who have been with Harry since the first book came out. I was 9 when I started reading them! When I had finished this one, I just closed the book gently, put it aside, and felt as if the last truly tangible part of my childhood was over. I know that sounds lame, but I grew up with Harry, it's weird. It's been 10 years. I have to say though, out of the numerous deaths in the book the one that made me cry the hardest was Dobby's. I WAS SOBBING, OK? I'm a big guy, like 6'4 and broad shouldered and there was something about Harry cradling that tiny little guy in arms that tore me up inside. I was so pleased with this book though. Even if Jo doesn't write and more Harry-oriented stuff, I hope she continues to write something for us.
RemisAhmazing: Cho wasn't already at Hogwarts. She came thought the mirror at Hog's Head like the rest of the DA and Order people.
it's easier for me to understand the book, because i'm not perfect in english..so,,,.thats all...
YAY!!! Mugglecast+me+Las Vegas= :)
I thought Cho came later with the reinforcements, but I could be wrong. Also, this may not be popular opinion, but I think Snape loved Lily in a non-romantic way, seeing as she was his bright light outside the hell he lived in at home. She was his first friend. I think he saw her as Harry sees Hermione and Ron, and resented James not only for his attitude but his own closeness to Lily that Snape gave up when he became a Death Eater. Love is a strong theme in this series, but it doesn't have to be romantic love to make a difference, i.e. Lily's sacrifice for her son.
AugureysCry ok so let me get this straight... harry could not die b.c he had a piece of voldy and voldy has a piece of him. and when voldy killed him, he killed the part of his soul that was in harry instead of harrys soul itself. and since all the horcruxs were destroyed harry was able to kill voldy right? but then when harry and voldy are about to fight who yells avada kedavra and who yelled expelliarmus? if harry yelled expelly then why did voldy die?
I get it now. The piece of Voldemort in Harry in essence sacrificed itself to save Harry, protecting him from the piece of Harry in Voldemort.
I think the thing about Petunia was that she wanted to go to Hogwarts-(Let down.) Also we found out that "That horrible boy" that told Lily about the dementors was in fact Snape, not james. The Speech that Dumbledore had w/ Harry was a choice he had to go back- now that he had "died" to protect everyone, it was a realization that he had now cast that protection onto everyone. I have no idea why she decided to throw in the mystical element of "limbo" or "half way to the other side..." she could have explained this a lot better than just allowing Dumbledore to agree that it was in his head. The theme has always been choices, I'm guessing that was the point of that, but I don't think it was executed well.
Deathstick_Destroyer dont be stupid.. Neville's grandmother was a witch!! god didnt u always hear Neville is a pureblood!!! ugh... and then in 6th book mcgonagall says she failed her charms owl
Ugh, the epilogue is REALLY bothering me!!! I know JK, she could have done MUCH better. Everything was perfect up until the stupid epilogue. Of course I'm happy they lived and had children, but really. It didn't even seem like Harry Potter, just fanfiction. The Harry Potter series is about a boy wizard. Why would she want our final impression of Harry to be as a father with kids when it should be him as a teen? If I had read the epilogue online before the book was released, I would not have believed a word of that belonged to Jo. Shockingly, it is. But seriously, awesome book. It's my third favorite after Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire.
armormew why would voldy want to sacrifice its own soul for harry?
BECAUSE IT REBOUNDED OFF HARRYS EXPELLIARMUS SO IT KILLED HIMSELF
Harry used Expelliarmus and Voldemort's AK backfired on him just like it did the first time. Since all the Horcruxes were gone, he actually died this time. Woot!
harry_p_7: i think voldy used avada cuz it said he had been killed by his own rebounded curse, so i think harry's expelliarmus sent it straight back at voldy. i'm thinking it had something to do w/ the fact that harry was a lot more confident than voldy at that point. harry had already died, for all intents and purposes, so he had nothing to fear. voldy just had a 17 year old boy point out all the mistakes and misunderstandings he had made over the years. confidence ruled over anger in that situation. p.s. i would have loved to have seen all the celebration ceremonies thrown in harry's honor. i was hoping there'd be a huge statue of him at the ministry or hogwarts, but all we got to see was the dinner in the dining hall.
HE DIDNT WHEN HE USED THE AK ON HARRY IT DESTROYED HIS SOUL BUT HARRY SURVIVED BECAUSE VOLDEMORT HAD HARRYS BLOOD IN HIM SO HARRY COULD LIV WHILE VOLDEMORT LIVED(PG 568)
PotterLove06, u have very weird opinions, note that Ms Rowling wrote the epilogue at the time of Philosophers Stone, and so she hadn't really grown into Harry Potter by that stage, though i think that it is truly amazing : the epilogue, because it reveals that JK will write more. she wrote" all was well as her last words. Note that it is all WAS well. Is this a hint that something will happen to some of the Potters in the future, like is the soul of Voldemort in Albus Potter or something? i dont know but i think that she will definetely write more
arpit87: Use magic "late in life" aka old. He's not stupid- It may have been a play on words. I don't see how that theory isn't so far fetched. Play nice-gracious.
OHHHHHHH.... wait so why could voldy die if he had harrys blood and harry lived?? shouldnt voldy have survived to?
I have 4 questions.. 1. why didn't JK Rowling tell us what professions harry, ron and hermione went into? Harry, ron and Hermione have discussed their future career goals at length in previous books and many fans have been discussing and questioning what they'll be come auror/headmaster/minister of magic, etc... and she gives us no clue whatsoever 2. Given Harry's history, and Tonks and Lupin's death... why didn't harry step up in his role as god father and raise Teddy? Also if Harry and Ginny didn't raise teddy who did? 3. How did Neville get Gryffandor's sword at the end? I thought the goblin took it? 4. What happened to Luna, or her father?
Great book..tied up all the loose ends...really nice twist with dumbledore/deathly hallows!!...Really enjoyed the whole series...thank you JK. But, I did have some comments/qs...why couldn't snape heal himself...him being a powerful healer?...did not do justice explaining Lupin's and Tonks' death...no clue of how they died - after all the efforts Harry did..to keep them away from the war...Ron speaking parseltongue was trial and error????....Mad eye loss was also not explained well....how did snape get Lily's patronus...supposedly ones signature...cannot be copied...voldemort calling for 1 hr ceasefire...seemed strange...epilogue was weird...albus severus...???? ..what about professional aspects of harry, ron and hermoine, Luna..? Most importantly, why didn't voldemort practice occlumency against harry?
I DON NO REALLY READ PG 568 THE KINGS CROSS CHAPTER IT KINDA TELLS U THERE LOL
Good book....but I had some issues with it. First off, Jo throughout the book told us how frequenty Harry THOUGHT of ginny and missed her, however there were few places(other than the epilougue) where we actually got to see those feelings materialize. I would liked to have seen Harry express his feelings for ginny outloud especially since people were dropping like flies througout the book. Also, after harry used the ressurection stone, we saw lily, james, sirius and lupin. I think it would have been nice to have included snape and dumbledore since they had played such a pivotal part in the final confrontation; It would have nice to see them included in this gathering of people who harry cares about. Not to mention the reunion of snape and lily would have been a nice touch. I also thought that the huge sacrifice harry made should have been WITNESSED by all who fought the battle. Not just the death eaters, Voldemort and Hagrid. I feel that the people needed to see the sheer guts that it would take to bring down evil. Finally, I really needed some closure after Voldemort was defeated. I think an extra chapter about the wizarding world and how they began to rebuild all that had been destroyed by Voldemort and his followers was needed. A memorial for all that had been lost would have helped the readers cope. (It would have helped me cope.) I wanted to see the official formation(or reinstatement I guess you could say) of harry and ginny's relationship before transitioning into the "19 years later" Anyways......It was still a great book and I am sorry that It has to come to an end.
Candydiva answer to question 1 ------- so that she could leave a gap for further books she may want to write. Question 2 :I thought it was kinda obvious that Granny tonks was still alive. Question 3 : he god it just as neville did, through the sorting hat. This must have a magical link to the sword, especcially as godric gryffindor gave the hat its powers. Question 4 : I have no idea
i have to agree with Candydiva04 there are so many unanswered questions in the book i feel that it was a little rushed and needed another chapter or 2 just to finish things off and iron out those loose ends
The epilogue was definitely horrible---I'm pretty sure most people agree. She did leave it open-ended...but I don't think it's because she's going to write more, no way. { It seems at this point it would be a huge marketing ploy now since she has been so adamant that there would only be 7 books..} I can't believe that people actually liked the book, I liked some parts, but it had NO twists, no explanations, and it took out most of the characters we loved. We had a glimpse through the resurrection stone, but all of that we could have figured out from Hermione's study of Runes---all of it just feels so generic now. Happy Ending-Trio Live, Same Mythological legends redone-(again), and a crap epilogue that doesn't even tie up the loose ends it promised..ahhhh, totally sucked.
Just discovered mugglecast after finishing the book. Wondering if anyone can clear something up. In the podcast 101, they kept mentioning that there are 200...400...900 people are in the room...is there a chatroom and there was also mention of a webcam. I can't find anything on the website.
I JUST FINISHED THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! I'm shaking. i love it. it's so sad. and great. J.K. Rowling is a genius. wow now i'll probly listen to mugglecast!
who had the custody of Teddy Lupin?
WOW! My head is still spinning. I cried, laughed and felt my heart beating like never before. I will need a re-read at some point, to catch the details I missed in my hurry to finish, but overall I am quite pleased, despite the death of my favorite, dear Fred, whose loss was lessened somewhat by the fact he went out fighting and with a laugh on his lips. While I can agree somewhat with some of the complaints about the epilogue, I still feel very pleased with how everything turned out. The best line in the entire book- "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!" Never underestimate the power of a mother! Thanks for everything JK!
jkrfan1976 for your 1st question- nagini was a powerfull snake so her poison was deadly, for expample when the snake attacked mr weasley they said he was lucky so be alive and snape, who didnt have his wand on him most likely and who couldnt simple have a potion kit nearby had to die, and the bite was very horrible, blood was everywhere and the memories were comign out his eyes ears andmouth.. how can u expect him to live? lupin and tonks died in battle, though i hop ehtye said who did it.. and harry did not do the sacrifice until AFTER they died so the protection couldnt reach to them. and ron only MIMICKED parseltongue he only made it sound like parsletongue. he had no clue what he was saying and all the chamber of secrets needed to be opened was the sound of the language so he cant speak parsletongue. and snapes patronus was ALWAYS lily... rememebr he was in luv with her since the beginnging so his patronus ended up being lily. and mad eyes loss was acctually explained fairly he go thit with the avada kedavra spell... what else need sot be explained? and yes he did practice occlumency agaitns harry but with everything happ he coulet concentrate on it remmeber??
