BOOOO!! i wouldve loved to see them star in it, especially Naomi Watts! i heard that she was definitely eyeing the role tho, so maybe she will sign on afterall.... hopefully SOON... the clock is ticking...!
top 50? omg0rz
Darn! I wanted her to play that role! Oo, and i_LOVE_ron_weasly, I'm pretty sure she's a born brit. She moved to Australia at 14 or something. I think.
she *is* British... she moved to Austrailia when she was 14. I'm dissapointed. Oh well.
Oh no, I would have been happy with that casting choice!! What about Joseph Fiennes?? May that one still be true? What do you guys think??? And in that case, which character would he play? Scrimgeour perhaps??!! But I would want him to act against his brother so in that case he should be a deatheater!?
i was thinking that Narcissa was beautiful, yet harsh and very proud. Naomi Watts isn't my idea of Narcissa so im kinda glad!
JK ROWLING SHUD BE 'CISSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well, I can't really see Naomi Watts as Narcissa; she's far too sweet. I don't think that Gambon was the best choice for Dumbledore either. . . he is more playful than Harris was but I can't see him as "The only one Voldemort ever feared". I know this sounds like I'm stealing the actors from LOTR but I think Sir Ian Mckellan would have made a good Dumbledore. He has a definite twinkle in his eye ;) and he can be rather fearsome sometimes. . .
Oh, well. They are all 3 great actors and it would have been great to have their name attached to the series. I love Joseph Finnes.*(Spelling) He was great in "Shakespeare in Love" and "Elizabeth". I think Naomi Watts would have been great in the role. I always pictured Lucious to have a beautiful wife. Oh, she is British. I took a look into that. :) They always do well on who they cast for characters. Their is only one that I did like and that was MadEye Moody. The guy did a great job, but is not what I pictured from what the book described.
oh well..................... ........................w hat is there to say?
not really all that upset. I think her accent is too Austrailian for the part. But I am disappointed about not having Jo Fiennes and Stuart Townsend in it....
Dang! I wanted Stuart Townsend in the movie : ( But whatever, I'm not a big fan of the movies anyway...
Huh....I really don't care....but whatever. BatJeff, how do you know when the movie's coming out. Was I just unobservand and missed that piece of news? November...That's not long at all....are you sure?
I still say a blond Kiera Knightly would be a great Narcissa.
november 2008 release. ahhhhh here we go again, let the countdown begin.
awh, shame...
yeah scout5, Sir Ian McKellan was the first person I thougt of that should have replaced Harris too. though to be honest I think Gambon really could fit the part if he would at least TRY to be like Dumbledore. right now he's sort of acting like some wizard, but it definitly is not Dumbledore who he's being.
NOO!! SHE WAS PERFECT!!
well that's annoying.
darn. naomi would have been a great narcissa (despite the fact that she from austrailia), and joseph would have been a great younger tom riddle since he prob. looks similar to ralph. and maybe stuart would be the british prime minister, maybe??
Awh man. I was looking forward to Rupert and Stuart on one screen. -_-
BWOF - Joseph Fiennes would most likely have played a younger Tom Riddle in the Pensieve scenes since he's Ralph Fiennes' brother and they look very similar.
NO!!!!!!!! I was so excited, uber happy!!!! Maybe they'll see how thrilled we were and try to cast them based on our reactions. Doesn't David Heyman visit MuggleNet on occassion??? I want Stuart Townsend to be the Parselmouth, psychotic Morphin Gaunt....it would be hot....darn darn darn.....
Is there an actual rule that the actor can't be anything but British? I can see if someone was perfect for a part and could do a British accent they could be hired. Obviously someone who can't do the accent is out because as JKR has said Hogwarts is a school in the UK. You wouldn't expect someone with an American or Canadian accent playing the part of a Brit! I don't think they would be that rigid that they wouldn't consider someone who could do the accent (without sounding totally lame). It will be interesting to see who they come up with for some of these roles. One of my coworkers and I always thought Prince Harry was a perfect Ron Weasley. I certainly couldn't picture Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter when that was announced but now can't imagine another actor doing the role. Just depends I guess on how you mentally visualize a character when reading the book.
Aww, that would have been cool though!
Aaah, well. i thought the third guy could hve been a good bill but i wasn't sold on naomi....
You all need to get off Gambon's back. I think he does a good enough job and after reading this last book, I almost feel like he's the one I was reading about. As far as these actors go, I had no idea who the male actors were going to play, but I thought this girl would have been a fine choice for Malfoy's mother. I picture the character as the exact opposite of Bellatrix; beautiful, light colored (hair, complection, etc) and graceful.
Well thats stinks. I thought she'd be good!
Oh wow, I'm surprised! I thought Mugglenet said they were confirmed? I was looking forward to Naomi as Narcissa...
man, i wanted her to be narcissa. oh well.
i think naomi watts is too famous to be narcissa...i would prefer someone who's a bit of a fresh face. maybe not completely new, but not so famous.
She wouldve been great. Shame that mugglenet got the news wrong - makes some of us look the fools. =) 99% accurate though, so haven't lost me yet. Leaky, by the way, is reporting one of the alternate titles of the book, as well as which chapter made JKR 'howl'/cry. Still think the armschair casting director casting should go: Naomi as Narcissa, Joe as Tom Riddle Sr, Stuart as morfin, Kate Winslet as Merope (why not), Patrick Stewart as Rufus Scrimgeour, Johnathan Rhys-Davies as SLUGHORN, Sean Bean as Fenrir, Bob Hoskins as Mundungus, Terrence Stamp as Old Man Gaunt, Helen McCrory as Dromeda, Clive Owens as Ted Tonks (why not), and Michael Caine to re-cast Aberforth. (Lavender and Young Riddle/Voldy are having open auditions now, so I'm betting there's no name-brand actors in those young roles....) What do ya think??
Maybe Muglenet should start a new countdown for HBP......:):) But, she would've a fairly evil Narcissa.
She was great in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive: very devious, and gentle, (what better combo for Cissy in HBP) and also the control she has over her voice is clear: her Brit/Aussie accent can be turned on and off. Yes, Naomi isn't aussie nor american; she's british: only her high school years did she move to Australia. .. . . as I understand it, the UK casting 'rules': WB agreed to cast United Kingdom (Welsh, Scot, Brit, North Ireland) actors (or Irish born in some cases) in major roles; though non-UK characters have been cast with foreign actors (Fleur, Karkaroff, Victor, Goblins, et al). . . . . I think we'll find that since the films are huge/bigger than ever now, actors will be clamoring to get into the cast: you can bet this false report was WELCOMED by Fiennes, Watts and Townsend, since it puts them in mind of the casting director... Anyway; RHYS-DAVIES FOR SLUGHORN!!! = )
Maybe they can still persuade Ms. Watts to play Narcissa. She looks and sounds like she would be perfect in that part!
I'm a little disappointed that they won't be in it. It's still possible that they are in negotiations and won't confirm anything until it's set in stone. A couple of people I would really like to see join the cast are Colin Firth (not sure in what role, but having him in a movie is always a plus) and Hugh Laurie! Laurie would be an excellent Scrimgeour with the right makeup and costuming!!
I thought it was fishy... But GOOD! I didnt want her in the movie anyways. Then it'd be too movie star (at least to Americans... I think)
I forgot that Narcissa has already been cast, unless the Spinner's End scene has been cut from Half-Blood Prince. And although the movies have switched actors before (thinking of Angelina, et al, not Dumbledore), it's much better to keep some continuity.
Naomi Watts actually IS British, having been born in Kent and spending the first 8 years of her life there. And she's 38, so not actually too young at all as I believe that Lucius is in his early forties (?) I'm disappointed, but just because a rumor has been unconfirmed doesn't mean it's out of the question for good...I'll keep my fingers crossed.
THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I have nothing against Naomi Watts (she was hilarious in I heart huckabees), but she just doesn't remind me of Narcissa at all! Naomi has soft features, looks absolutely beautiful when she smiles, and overall looks really friendly and nice! Narcissa is none of these. Though it is mentioned that Narcissa has some beauty to her, i picture her as someone with blunt facial features, someone with quiet arrogance and pride. My best friend suggests Cate Blanchett, and i agree.
thats so stupid
Naomi Watts is British, despite what some people have said. She would have been great but in my opinion, Nicole Kidman should be the one exception they make to the British/Irish rule. She would be totally perfect. Still, Naomi Watts is probably my number one British choice.... By the way, even though she mighta screwed it up, Jo woulda been perfect as Lily. Maybe now she could do a cameo as someone without a line, but I'm not sure who. Even someone in the Hog's Head would be good, or a person in the crowd at Dumbledore's funeral....
While she's old enough to play Tom Felton's mom, she's younger by a decade than Narcissa's age at the time of story (according to the Black Family Tree info on HPlexicon). Not that this should stop a good actor: ex: Michael Gambon (who does a fine job in my estimation) is hardly as old as Dumbledore is supposed to be = ). All the haters who think she shouldn't be cast simply because she's done well for herself have flawed logic: if that were the rule to believe in, then JKR should have also stopped writing after she became richer than the queen....! hmmm? I think the fame level of the actor's matters not; the quality of the acting DOES. .....If WB put Tom Cruise or Kirsten Dunst or one of a thousand other overrated hacks (dodges tomatoes) into the movies, they'd never get a dime from me, not even on DVD release. [[ ah, but if Mr Cruise could actually ACT, as in, play more than 'young cocky guy' (or now 'not-so-young cocky *ahem*zealot guy' these days) than I might deign to see it ]]. Naomi, despite having worked in a movie with jack Black, is actually a skilled actress - Narcissa would be a nice cameo for her.
Darnit! Townsend looks almost exactly like my Tom Riddle. *curses*
ohhh man. I was all happy! I already told people..
i was really happy at first but then i thought the Stuart was American and Naomi isn't really the type. Oh well
coolestdorkever and chaibabachai:: you are so right and i agree with you LOTS. but i think that naomi would have been good for the part except for the part she is not British. and i think they should keep all the actors/actresses British. but i pictured Narcissa very similar to what naomi looks like. ((weasleyredhead21.. does anyone know how to sign off another name??))
yay that's good news.....i hope joseph is still in it though!!!!!!
Darn. I was really excited about Joseph Fiennes and Stuart Townsend. they are sooooo hot!!!!
Oh snap! :-( I was really looking forward to Naomi and Joseph. Though, I hope they will cast Joseph as Tom Riddle Sr. - they have a unique chance of having the two Riddles, father and son, have actually similar features.
