Harry Potter Top Grossing Motion Picture Franchise
Warner Brothers has announced this evening that the Harry Potter series is the largest-grossing film franchise to date globally, surpassing Star Wars and and James Bond. Totaling $4.47 billion in ticket sales (with two films left to go, WB points out), several high-ups at Warner Brothers are quoted in the press release:In making the announcement, Alan Horn [President & Chief Operating Officer] said, “It would be an understatement to say we are proud of the success of the Harry Potter films. We also want to congratulate all of the extraordinary actors, filmmakers and artists who have shared this remarkable cinematic journey with us.”Of note, Variety has published an article comparing the Potter film franchise to the other big ones:
Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, said, “It is a thrill to see the Harry Potter franchise reach this unparalleled mark, and, with two movies yet to come, it is amazing to think what heights the franchise could reach by the end of the decade.
Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, Warner Bros. Pictures President of International Distribution, added, “This worldwide box office record once again proves that the appeal of the Harry Potter movies knows no border, no age limit, and no language barrier. Each of the five films has captured the hearts and sparked the imagination of audiences everywhere.”
Bond, which dates back to 1962, has generated $4.44 billion worldwide and the "Star Wars" pics have pulled down $4.23 billion since the first release in 1977. None of the tallies account for inflation or rising ticket prices. To read the press release from Warner Brothers, click the link below.
And domestically the "Star Wars" franchise still far outpaces the boy wizard. All told, the "Star Wars" pics have grossed $2.18 billion, while the "Harry Potter" franchise has grossed $1.41 billion. But then there are still two more "Potters" to go.
And all three have generated millions upon millions in downstream ancillary coin for their studios, once homevideo and TV revenue are added into the tallies.

WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ HARRY POTTER FILMS COMBINE TO
BECOME THE BIGGEST FILM FRANCHISE IN HISTORY
Harry Potter Film Franchise Surpasses James Bond
and Star Wars, With Two Films Yet to Come
BURBANK, CA, September 10, 2007 – With the success of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter films have now become, worldwide, the top-grossing motion picture franchise in history. The announcement was made today by Barry Meyer, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer and Alan Horn, President & Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
The combined worldwide box office gross for the five Harry Potter films to date is in excess of $4.47 billion, surpassing the box office totals of all 22 James Bond films and the six “Star Wars” movies.
This impressive record comes even as “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” is still going strong in theatres around the globe, and with two more highly anticipated Harry Potter films—“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”—still in the offing.
In addition to holding the franchise box office record, all five of the Harry Potter films have the distinction of being among the 20 top-grossing box office hits of all time.
In making the announcement, Alan Horn said, “It would be an understatement to say we are proud of the success of the Harry Potter films. We also want to congratulate all of the extraordinary actors, filmmakers and artists who have shared this remarkable cinematic journey with us.”

that is ssooo bad, but funny. that is the total opposite of me. we've had tons of pets. and the one time we got a fish at this carnival it lasted for 3 years. no joke
haha, yah, its weird fish are prolly the most boring pets ever but i have some funny stories about them. lol so im tryin to figure out the days until harry potter 6 comes out and i think im doin it wrong, do yu kno the days?

morning everyone!
a Renaissance Festival in town is having a "Free Frogwarts Magic school with free magic wand making and testing" frogwarts? FROGWARTS? at least be more creative, you are clearly ripping off HP.
hi! FROGWARTS???????????
LMAO I swear to goodness thats what the ad says! I had to read over it like 3 times before I was convinced I saw it right.... *shakes my head at people's laziness to come up with a creative name and laziness at trying to piggyback off of HP success*
Frogwarts, frogwarts, froggy froggy frogwarts, Frog us something please, Whether we be young and smooth or old with warty knees. Our heads could do with frogging With some frog-related stuff, For now they're bare and full of air, dead flies and bits of fluff. So teach us stuff about frogs worth knowing, bring back what we've forgot. Just frog your best, we'll frog the rest, and frog until our brains all rot.
LMAO that is too funny spew!!! holy cow, i cant catch my breath my laughing too hard!!!
hahahhahaha, nice one speww
YAY people are online! WHOOO HOO
of course, they don't mention that movie tickets cost about 25 cents back in the old star wars and james bond movie days... so obviously they'd make more money in the days when a ticket can cost almost $10......... (lol, hi cheesecakians!)
Yeah, I only have data for movies for inflation comparison, but I would also be interested to see how the Bond books stack up against HP when adjusted for inflation...
hey evertyone im back... and wasn't the 25cent thing back then pretty much the same amount as a dollar nowadays?
heyy cheesecakess
hey all! How is everyone today? Fangs cheekbones are GORGEOUS as usual!! and kreachers aswell!
well im pretty good, no school ! :D lol, hbu loonyluvrs
Im good but I think I have school... not sure though I have to call at 9 and find out which is in 6 minutes
hp is just going to get bigger and better, the book may be over, but the newest movies could increase the fan bases, though i don't no if thats possible, seeing how many people liek hp, even after the movies new fans will will be made, but we were all lucky enough to b a part of it while hp was just becoming popular....
geez, wht time is it were yu live?
yea it was fun to grow up reading hp! I felt like i was really in hogwarts with them! Theres no better feeling than that
its 904 now i just called and we got school... alright people well i gotta go study for test and finish hmwk... i'll be back! ~ arnold... well adios! don't forget fangs sexy cheekbones! bye for now cheesecakians!!!
yah, i prolly wouldnt have started ready so early if it wasnt for HP. and i was thinkin about the seventh movie, i would rather it be like 4 hours long with an intermission than it not have everything in it, same with movie 6. there just so much important stuff.
Heya, hw is everyone?
heyyy! r yu still there ruby?
yeh! hello! hw r ya?
I dont see how people can argue that the next two movies will bring in MORE fans. If you look at the numbers, the first movie drew the most people in, and after that the numbers have never been the same. Its the same audience that goes back and sees each successive movie. Yes OotP saw a small spike in attendance, but still is 10% below the # of people that saw SS. The franchise has attracted all the fans its going to get, and those fans will pay their 980 million bucks to see HBP and DH, so everyone is happy. (except those purists who think the movies are a blasphemous perversion of the books)
hello?
hey rob!
hey everyone I'm back! Did you miss me?? What's up how is everyone? how is the cheesecake treating you? and has the moon dissapeared for you guys too? It's been two whole days and the moons gone.... i think it's in hiding

Jk lol ok am I the ONLY person alive left who has not yet seen harry potter atOotP!!! *hits self* I am extremely unfortunate.... but yes I heard there were many mistakes... anyways I and rereading the books now and I got to the part in book 4 after Moody turns Malfoy into a ferret and He picks on Hermione and she goes, "Oh hello professor Moody." and Malfoy turns around all scared and she's all, "Twitchy little ferret aren't you Malfoy!" I LOVE that part! lmao

hpfan are you a guy or girl?
Oh yea I'm guessing since the books are all out now they can't mess uo the movies anymore... but I would love it if the movies were like 5 hours long! Or atleast 3 look at LotR I mean comon! They should make Hp movies longer... how long was this film do you know?
