Jim Broadbent cast as Horace Slughorn
In an interview with our friends at Dark Horizons, actor Jim Broadbent has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince:Broadbent: Yeah I had basically three months in Lincolnshire in the summer and suddenly now I'm back on the rollercoaster again and I've got to finish off Indiana Jones next month and I've got a bit on Young Victoria and it's all been sort of stacking up and then I'm doing Harry Potter.
Question: Who are you?
Broadbent: Who am I? He's called Horace Slughorn. He's a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he's quite star struck as a teacher and he's drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he's drawn back by Harry.

OMG HE'S PERFECT! i loved him in bridget jones & moulin rouge! to be honest, i never would've thought of him, but now that i look at him, he's absolutely incredible.

I got the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix DVD today from a friend at college. He has a connection at his work that produces the Official DVD's and he bought 1 legally from his friend and sold it to me for 5 dollars brand new. Its kind of hardcore that I own it 12 weeks before it comes out. I'm watching it tonight.

I would've preferred Bob Hoskins as Slughorn, but Jim Broadbent is an excellent choice, too! :-) Nice to have another great actor from the British elite joining the HP cast!

HPDH2007, there is no way your friend could buy the dvd LEGALLY... The release date is the release date and even people at the companies that produce the dvd arent allowed copies before then. There are major fines to anyone that SELLS a copy of it before the release date. I hope you werent duped and have a real copy, but your friends friend can get in real trouble for that. I wouldnt be advertising that.
I checked it and it was fake, I'm gonna tell him tomorrow that kind of pisses me off now I see why he only charged 5 dollars.

Yeah Im pretty gullible haha at least he isn't like a close friend just a guy I talk to a few times a week. I am a huge Horace Slughorn fan. He is definitely one of my favorite characters in the series. Harrrry M'boy

well I do like him, but i do thik he doesn't really fit the role of slughorn, he's really too tall -and slim- °-° Bob Hoskins would have been a far more appropriate cast, anyway...whatever. If I'm not wrong, Jim Broadbent has already worked with Yates, so I think he would be ok...

I don't know - I've always liked Jim Broadbent, from the Borrowers and Narnia, but I always imagined Slughorn as short and sqaut with a handlebar moustache, like he's described when we first meet him, and as Mary Grandpre's picture suggests. Broadbent is tall and thin, if I remember correctly. But I think he will do the character fine. Weren't Tom Felton and Mark Williams from the Borrowers, too? Yes, they were: Tom was the little boy (Peagreen?) and Mark was the milkman...

Unfortunately, Christan is 30 sometihng so cant play Tom :(. Altough, they could always bring him back for the older Tom, when he applied for the job.
