Jim Broadbent cast as Horace Slughorn
In an interview with our friends at Dark Horizons, actor Jim Broadbent has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince:Broadbent: Yeah I had basically three months in Lincolnshire in the summer and suddenly now I'm back on the rollercoaster again and I've got to finish off Indiana Jones next month and I've got a bit on Young Victoria and it's all been sort of stacking up and then I'm doing Harry Potter.
Question: Who are you?
Broadbent: Who am I? He's called Horace Slughorn. He's a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he's quite star struck as a teacher and he's drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he's drawn back by Harry.

I remember thinking how amazing he'd be as Slughorn during my first reading of HBP, and then it just sort of slipped my mind. I love Jim Broadbent! Now I'm even more excited. Ahh! Woo! Go The Borrowers cast taking over HP! hahaha

hhhmmm...ok you ppl will probably think I'm soo lame lol...but I really havent seen him in anything besides The borrowers which was like 10yrs ago and the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe n he didn't so much in it! I am super excited that he's playing Slughorn. I love him. If I'm not mistaken he was in Moulin Rouge, and Hot Fuzz, two awesome movies!
Physically he seems like a good Slughorn, but you could totally tell that he hasn't read anything HP related but the script.
He really is just the way I imagined him. I have a feeling the movies going to be very good. I'm excited already!

im i the only one who thinks this a bad choice? he was terrible in narnia....the worst professor diggory i could have imagined. hes the same character in every film.....im gonna be watching hbp and all of a sudden, a slashed up chair is gonna transform into Mr. borrower guy

I think he'll be a good Slughorn. Not exactly how I imagined him, but no one in the movies is (with the exception of Helena Bonham Carter, not because of her appearance, but the way she was able to really capture Bellatrix is a character...she's great). Speaking of Helena, am I the only one that's uber-excited to see her as Hermione in the Gringott's scene with the Polyjuice Potion? That'll be great.

The first thing I thought was, "I know that name! I know that name!" And then I remembered that he played Harold Z. in "Moulin Rouge!", my all-time favourite movie. I love how my favourite things (that movie and the HP books) collided, in a way. This is so completely awesome. He's definitely my version of Slughorn.

ahhhh. omg. you know wat? i think this guy will work. his facial features show a hing of slughorn and kind of remind you of him. hopefully after hair, makeup, and costume, he will look more and more like slughorn. but overall, im really happy with this guy! omg. im realllllllly excited now. it shows that even though the book series are finished....the potter fans still live on! yay!

He's actually thinner than I pictured Sluggy. xD But he's still great.
he looks perfect, just needs to be a little fatter, but with modern makeup that won't be a problem. Interesting fact: he's worked with Tom Felton in "The Borrowers" (1997).
