Jim Broadbent cast as Horace Slughorn
Broadbent: Yeah I had basically three months in Lincolnshire in the summer and suddenly now I'm back on the rollercoaster again and I've got to finish off Indiana Jones next month and I've got a bit on Young Victoria and it's all been sort of stacking up and then I'm doing Harry Potter.
Question: Who are you?
Broadbent: Who am I? He's called Horace Slughorn. He's a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he's quite star struck as a teacher and he's drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he's drawn back by Harry.
Check out the full interview for details on his costume fittings and what kind of character he's been scripted to portray. Thanks to Alex for the tip!

He doesn't look anything like I pictured 'Old Sluggy' to look like. Well, hopefull he's a brilliant actor.
JIM BROADBENT is a SUPERB CHOICE for Slugghorn; an excellent actor. PLEASE, PLEASE, advice the casting director to cast CHARLES DANCE for the role of SCRIMGEOUR!!!!! CHARLES DANCE is perfect for SCRIMGEOUR!
What??? Hes supposed to be hugely obese!!! ah well!!!
Eh. When I saw him in Narnia, I wanted him to play Dumbledore!!!! Bob Hoskins would still make a better Slughorn, in my opinion!!!
dear sarah, the german word for deatheater is Todesser, not s.th. else.
Oh awesome. He looks good and qualified for the job I personally imagined him in a wheelchair but that's just me. Still he's better than some of the other people who auditioned.
yeah he does look the part but i feel like he isn't going to have time to really learn about the charecter because he is doing all this other movies that is not that cool but we will see he might change my mind
OMG that rocks!!!!!!!! I loved him in Moulin Rouge and The Borrowers. Didn't he work as Tom Felton's dad in that movie? Lol! What a coincidence. He is playing a Slytherin! Keep us posted!
He looks just like I invision him while I read the book (:
Not the Slughorn i pictured in my mind, but he'll do!

I'm really excited to see that Jim's going to play Slughorn, and I think it's hilarious that a mini 'The Borrowers' reunion is on the set of HBP. Good times. I think I'm gonna go rent that tonight from work....hm.
