David Yates talks Half-Blood Prince
David Yates talks Half-Blood Prince In a new audio interview that will leave us die-hard fans very happy, Half-Blood Prince director David Yates talks about how he understands the fan's connection with each film. With that in mind, he says, he's going to make HBP a very character-driven film with a coming of age story (thanks in part to screenwriter Steve Kloves' "fun" draft).

Posted by flambas Sep 24th 2007

please please please please bring dobby back! PLEASE PLEASE. i have this weird feeling they might kill off kreature instead of dobby, and that's just disrespectable.

Posted by sirius_rox Sep 24th 2007

sweet! can't wait for the movie! :)

Posted by CantLetItGo Sep 24th 2007

Woo, can't wait!! :D

Posted by hpwizkid Sep 24th 2007

I thought that interview was really interesting. I'm glad Yates is directing this film because he really graps the compxities of the characters, and I think he takes into account the fans opinions as well when making the movies. Ootp was amazing, and I can't WAIT for HBP now...=)

Posted by Quiscalus Sep 24th 2007

I hope the 'coming-of-age' part of the story doesn't dominate the entire movie. I've got a nasty feeling the movie is going to be something along the lines of 'Harry Potter: the Soap Opera'.

Posted by muggle_magic Sep 24th 2007

I cannot wait until we find out more about the new movie. So little news is driving me crazy.

Posted by Ruby_321 Sep 24th 2007

I cant wait for it! i like the idea of a charcter driven movie *squeels*

Posted by polkadots56 Sep 24th 2007

I am so excited for him to do this movie- he is going to do succhhh a GREAT job. Ahhhh! When are we going to start the countdown??? :)

Posted by Ruby_321 Sep 24th 2007

The filiming has properly started today!!!!!!! WHOOOOOO!!!!!

Posted by MissMalfoy Sep 24th 2007

David Yates is okay, i thought he did a really good job on OOTP but hes stupid because he should bring Christian Coulson back as Tom Riddle!!! I will not stop saying this, partly because i am slightly obsessed (lol) and also because HELLO! he Was Tom Riddle! okay, rant over. for now......

Posted by Czechmetz Sep 24th 2007

So, I've been obsessively refreshing my iTunes feed to see if the new Mugglecast episode has come out. Mugglecast pretended to start to load something, and then quit after I had already exclaimed "YAYYY!" loudly in my office. Basically: GD, I really want to hear this weeks episode! And yeah, Yates. Cool.

Posted by YouKnowWho Sep 24th 2007

Hmmm... Steve Kloves has writen a "Fun" script...Does that mean lots of corny jokes and changing things from the book to make them more "exciting" for the screen?

Posted by HarryandGinnyforlife Sep 24th 2007

YAY! I can't wait for the movie! It looks like Yates is going to make it better than OOTP.

Posted by charma_10 Sep 24th 2007

Yates will have made Kloves change the script if it doesn't come from the books enough. I trust David Yates implicitly with this movie. You can see the passion he has for the story, the characters and making the actors into the best actors that they can be and that means everything.

Posted by michaelc95 Sep 24th 2007

I don't like yates' directing. OOTP was the worst movie ever based on screen play and directing.

Posted by Kaammini Sep 24th 2007

That's good to hear. I hope it's MUCH longer than OOTP was though.

Posted by phoenix_fire613 Sep 24th 2007

Thanks for sharing! That was lovely. I don't want to wait a whole year!

But I don't think necessarily for the book. So I doubt he will change Kloves script to leave out those cringe worthy moments where something that was great in the book is changed to something totally simplistic and exgagrated for no apparent reason. I would have more faith in the HBP script if I hadn't seen the four Harry Potter movies written by Kloves, which pails in comparasion to the nuanced and character-driven script for OOTP penned by Michael Goldenberg. I'm not saying that OOTP has a perfectly written script, it had a lot of problems too, but at least I felt the essence of Harry Potter within it. You've all seen the first four Harry Potter movies,...Bring Michael Goldenberg Back!

Posted by ignotus_peverell Sep 24th 2007

Wow, this film might actually be accurate. Though, he shouldn't overdue the inferi army that much. It is about two pages in the book at most and then Dumbledore does his fire magic and they are back on the boat.

Posted by charma_10 Sep 24th 2007

Love the name YouKnowWho! People are forgetting that Yates works on the script too. He mentioned the draft that he was given. He can suggest modifications and would have worked closely with Goldenberg. I don't understand what you mean about him having passion for the story but not the book? They are one in the same. I think Yates had just as much to do with the character driven script as Goldenberg did. Lets just hope Kloves has learnt from the successful characterisation in OotP and continues it. At least with Klove we'll get the Oppugno scene or something like it. We all know how he loves his girl power.

Posted by Rictemsempra Sep 24th 2007

Nice!!! :) I was extremely happy w/ the outcome of OotP... and I believe that David Yates will do a good job with HBP as well.

Posted by DracosSlytherinGirl Sep 24th 2007

yes! HBP!!! im dieing to see this =) but even tho OotP was great i think they left out TOO much. hopefully HBP will be longggg & awesomer:) ughh! the series is almost coming to an end!!! *cries*

Posted by serguei1965 Sep 24th 2007

Can't wait! Top 30!

Posted by Willowrose Sep 24th 2007

I already listened but it was great!

Posted by xhproxx Sep 24th 2007

Posted by rggr9728 Sep 24th 2007

wow i really hope the movie is good, i cant wait!!!! :)

Posted by ChocolateEyedWitch Sep 24th 2007

he ruined OotP and he's gonna ruin HBP :P

Posted by HProx_my_sox99 Sep 24th 2007

thanks for that! i hope HBP is awesome. November 08 cannot come soon enough.

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Sep 24th 2007

I really like David Yates.

Posted by Lily_and_Sev4ever Sep 24th 2007

Ootp wasn't obviously perfect, but without any doubt the very best of the whole series...I hope SOOOO much that Yates will do a great job!!!***Crossed fingers***

Posted by roonilwazlib721 Sep 24th 2007

all im sayin is...bonnie wright better grow out her bangs and look decent before she goes and makes out with dan rad.

Posted by Matrinka Sep 24th 2007

I loved his translation of Order of the Phoenix. I'm glad he's focusing this plot on characters more than action sequences. Yay!

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Sep 24th 2007

alright, I felt ootp was a bit to short, and some parts weren't emphasized enough, but other then that it was great! cant wait for #6

Posted by TheSilverDoe1 Sep 24th 2007

Merlin`s Pants!!!! Lol...... I cant wait for The Half Blood Prince! It is My 2nd Favorite book of Harry Potter. (My First being Deathly Hallows.) I Hope They dont cut out the classes with Albus..... I dont see how they could though....seeing as thats mainly what the book is about,Learning about horcruxes. Well....besides the war with the Death Eaters.........From here on out in the movies characters will die....R.I.P. James, Lily, Sirius, Albus, Hedwig, Alastor, Tedd, Fred, Colin, Remus, Tonks, Dobby, and Severus....Good Ridance, Vincent Crabbe, Bellatrix, and Voldemort.

Posted by ilovedanradcliff Sep 24th 2007

I think Daniel yates will do a good job. I did think that the fifth movie was short, but, I think he will do fine. can't wait until the sixth movie!!! (Yes, top 50) :-P

Posted by liveyourdreamz Sep 24th 2007

I really hope HPB turns out spectaculaur since it is the huge turn of the series and builds up the suspense ever before deathly hallows came out. I think they have to tie in Snape a ton (well, the book IS named after him....) and I hope they use the same Tom Riddle as they did in Chamber of Secrets. He was perfect.

Posted by ilovedanradcliff Sep 24th 2007

I meant david yates
