Dragon_queen4ever. We know that about the money. But, the article never mentioned anything about making money. That's why we had the Halloween/fanfic comparison. Those are great comparisons, because you could get sued up to millions and millions of dollars especially if you published your fanfic or sell costumes for profit. yeah, but griffin girl, unless you charge people ot see your fan art, or claim it as your own charriem they have no reason t osue you. If the festival people did one of these without permision, they will get sued.

No one is going all out on her. They're just opinions based on an article. But, my opinions still stand. It's not like anyone is saying hang the woman. The only thing I agree with is the "permission" thing. I agree that they should have gotten it.

They probably would have gotten it if they'd just asked and explained why. No offense to the makers, but the amount they spent building that is astonishing. Hogwarts is not real and people would have been able to get a glimpse of it by watching the movies. They look like they are doing a beautiful job, but that money could be used to help the poor.

I 100% agree with you there LadyDiana, that was a lot of money spent on these replicas that could have spent on something else that could have been spent on something more helpful or useful. (and i am glad you catch the sarcasm and it makes you laugh) :-)

But they weren't making a profit. When they say festival they just mean like a religious festival. The streets and everything would be decorated. But they wouldn't make a profit. Also, someone commented about how they had an HP tattoo. The person who gives the tattoo is making a real profit, off of that, and there actually a lot of people with HP tattoos. Shouldn't they sue them, before suing people who aren't making a profit? In my opinion, this whole matter is pointless.

Well, Jo is nice and everything and she's a great writer, but that's a bit overboard. Putting a group out of business just because they made a model of Hogwarts? That's crazy. She's already a multi-billionaire, why does she need any more money? As for Warner Brothers (WB), that's just like them; always wanting money!! Jo should just leave them alone.

potterpuffs are HP scenes made up to look like powerpuff girls. you can find them on livejournal. pretty amazing really. you can commission a custom one, and she has new ones about once a week. so, she is using HP to make profit. not much, but it's still a profit.

That is just simply ridiculous. Harry Potter models and themes are constantly being replicated, and I don't see JKR and WB suing them.

It would be my guess that this has everything to do with what WB and JKR have to do to protect the HP copyright and liscences in India and very little to do with the fact that this is a religious festival and whether or no they are making any money. There are often specific requirements to be met when you are trying to protect copyrights, such as showing you've produced a product under a certain category, and showing that when you've been apprised of violations, that you've made a vigorous fight to protect your rights. There have been plenty of examples in the past of the lengths that Disney has gone to, to enforce their copyrights and charactor liscences, including the suing of a church to have charactors taken off the wall that were painted in the childrens nursery and levy of stiff fines for same. I'm sure Alivans has liscenced the right to produce their products from WB or the responsible parties, and does no one remember the threats to Mugglenet over t-shirts that were being sold here not to long ago?

JKR is a wonderful person, but millions of people haven't asked her permission to do a lot of things Harry Potter. Give the poor people a break. It's just for a festival. Anyway its not like they're going to make any money. If the do make any money, then they should sue them. I bet for Halloween a lot of people will make Harry Potter costumes at home but JKR is suing all of them. Some things that people do are just plain stupid.
