More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC 2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.

The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."

Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."

Stay tuned, more to come soon!

It's funny how everyone was begging for every little detail of their favorite characters life and than we find out he's gay and everyone sticks their fingers in their ears not wanting to believe it.........be careful what you wish for.

nameless, you obviously dont understand the potential of Androids. Where from that do you get that I want revenge on jk for making (btw you just contradicted youreself) her character gay? oh and I was just joking with someone there

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

Maybe they enjoyed the ill-fated Mariah Carey movie?

Posted by chrisgorman02 Oct 20th 2007

There is no gay encouragement in the series just like there is no witchcraft encouragement. again. Don't be the next generation of laura mallory's against homosexuals.

Posted by Nameless Oct 20th 2007

Sorry, Grindelwald, I misread your post because I was fed up about some of the stupid people on here. I'm one of those screaming liberals that argue about almost everything.

Posted by sirius_lee Oct 20th 2007

yea ummm namelss wre joking... chillll

Posted by marllee Oct 20th 2007

I'm sure people are gonna say I'm intolerant for saying this but oh well...if after 10 years of reading this amazing story and growing up with the characters, that simply finding out the sexuality of one of them can make you want to burn your books and stop reading, then by all means do that. You're probably just not that smart, never read much anyway, and just hopped on the HP wagon after all the hype went into it. So please put the books down and forget them because as upsetting and inappropriate some of you think it is for her to say this, turns she already got our money so it doesn't really matter what any of us thinks now. And what is with people going on about this being inappropriate for children? Having read DH, did you just censor all the parts were beloved characters were dying throughout it? It's ok to have to explain death to your child but not ok to mention anything relating to the lgbt community (even though there's no mention of that in the actual books btw)? As for relevance? This info probably isn't too relevant but I don't see how the fact Neville married Hannah means anything to do with the plot now either. I'm sure this means a lot to kids growing up feeling different and picked on who already felt close to the characters. I know it means a lot to me. Thanks Mrs. Rowling!

Posted by UhsFethMalorn Oct 20th 2007

To be honest, it's quite cowardly of her to do this now. She's not making a point, is she? It's just something she's thrown in...I don't know, it annoys me. I always thought of Dumbledore as gay, if I thought of him have sexual feelings, and as a sad, lonely man because of it, but she shouldn't have confirmed it, I don't think. Like her stupid 'All was well,' thing at the very end of the seventh. Why does she have to read like fanfic on us all of a sudden? Is she worn out with being clever after the Horcruxes and Hallows?

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

hey whoever's here

Posted by harry8voldemort Oct 20th 2007

can we drop this please? don't be mean 2 j.k their her characters and she can do whateva with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by loveprofsnape Oct 20th 2007

i am kinda disappointed. i think that completely contradicts what jo said about them having a chrstian background. i don't think i will ever be able to enjoy reading about dumbledore again. i'm not going to boycott the books or anything, but i am disappointed.

Posted by chrisgorman02 Oct 20th 2007

uhsfethmalorn: It's not cowardly. It's a subplot. It's not relevant to the story AT ALL so why would she mention it before now?

Posted by bexing Oct 20th 2007

I really never imagined there would be this kind of uproar from fans. I haven't even bothered reading most of the comments, because you can only read the same old naive and uninformed opinions so many times, so forgive me if this has already been said. To me this revelation is a good thing, because it inspires the good and the bad opinions out of everyone. It brings about the question and the discussion of the issue, and even if its not all positive, people are still addressing it. The whole point of Harry Potter is to break down stereotypes and show that at the end of the day we are all people, no matter what small differences we have. Even Voldemort was a person, he had a past and a history, he'd experienced things and been through things despite the fact that he was an insane mass-murderer at the end of it. All the characters in Harry Potter were so pleasantly and perfectly balanced - white characters, black characters, ginger haired characters, twins, orphans, widows, old people, young people, old parents and young parents, supposedly evil characters and those with an endless sense of morality, heroes and cowards, half-werewolves and Metamorphmagus’, characters with physical disabilities, characters who don’t speak good English, and so many more. It was only a matter of time until the issue of sexuality came up, because it’s common and because people exist in society that have varying sexualities. At least now people will address the issue and maybe it’ll help even a tiny bit towards ending the struggle to prove that homosexuality is entirely normal and not something to be afraid of. Even the struggle to end discrimination, period. Everyone loves the Harry Potter series (aside from Christian fundamentalists who think it’s Satan worshipping or whatever) so with any luck there’ll hopefully be even a little less of the blind judgements, and maybe just a few people will stop to actually THINK about their opinions before they go aimlessly flinging them around. May...

I haven't commented on anything in a long, long time but to those who now regard Albus as un-natural and bad for it, you are the same as the Dursleys. Maybe you can imagine yourselves having a nice heterosexual tea party with Aunt Petunia, Vernon and Dudders who feel magic is un-natural and bad. Have you learned nothing? Shame on the lot of you.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

It's not like it matters. I mean he's going to hell for doing magic anyways right?

Please stop with the Pedophilia. Being gay does not mean that you molest children!!

Posted by bexing Oct 20th 2007

Ahaha I got cut off as a result of my endless rambling that no one cares about. Basically all I want to say is BRING ON REMUS/SIRIUS NEXT, PLZ JKR!

Posted by HarrylovesGinnyin2007 Oct 20th 2007

Good for her! These books are about tolerance, just as she said. Dumbledore was a favorite of everybody and he was a wonderful person, who was also gay. There are going to be so many people now that declared they never liked Dumbledore because of this recent revealing. They're not true fans, but those of you that embrace this fact are. Just goes to show you how many layers there can be.

Posted by Ranger Oct 20th 2007

I guess Dumbledore is dead. At least Hedwig isn't.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

OMG YES, PLS SIRIUS/REMUS! actually my 1st reaction when i heard of the albus thing was: wait, did she say albus was gay or remus was? with sirius? because that's true, it so is and i think she implicitly approves of that ship. hehehe, my fave pairing after all ;)

It's funny how quickly his character can go from greatest wizard of all time to dirty old man that seduces little kids with magic tricks. Personally I'm not going to let something as insignifigant as a person's sexuality tarnish my image of Dumbledore. P.S.- Magic Dildos

Posted by IcePrincess2010 Oct 20th 2007

OMG! I was shocked! Why JK? Why?!? On the other hand that is so cute for Neville!

MAGIC DILDOS ADKJSKDHK LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Posted by mbenoni7 Oct 20th 2007

Being gay does not make one a pedophile. At the same time, it is now possible that Dumbledore was physically attracted to Harry, whereas yesterday, that would not have been a valid interpretation. Since none of this was in the book, this possibility is only as significant as you want it to be.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

I wonder if Hagrid knows?

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

yes the potential for magical sex paraphernalia has no limits ;)

Posted by Mushaboom Oct 20th 2007

I think this was rather unnecessary of Jo. Not that I'm against homosexuality, cause I think you can do whatever you want. But for Dumbledore...I don't know. Something just doesn't sit right about that for me. I feel like it will be that way with a lot of fans. I think it would have been better for her just to leave him as is, and not let us know that.

Posted by thefictionxwelive Oct 20th 2007

I'm really sorry you feel that way, Tony_the_Terrible. If you found out your best friend was gay, would you think the same thing? If you really love something, you won't just let it go because of one minor thing. The good deal of her fans that will stop reading the books are actually only alienated by the true fans that will continue reading.

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

Wow...Now we know why DD wanted to have "Private Lessons" with Harry!!! LMFAO

Posted by sirius_lee Oct 20th 2007

AHHHHHHHHHH just found out im april!! :O oka thats not funny... thats sick...

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

You know that family is pretty open minded. Dumbledores gay, Alberforths into beastiality. Not that they're similar, I'm just saying. P.S.- Seriously.....MAGIC dildos!!!

Harriet_Lilly_Snape. Shame on you. You may have just been making a joke, but you incinuated that Dumbledore is a pediphile. Pedophilia is not connected with homosexuality!

Scooby --- That is awesome!!! wbweasley --- Lighten Up.
