More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC 2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.

The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."

Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."

Stay tuned, more to come soon!

hahah-ahem...ahh yes not very pleasing ari......

Exactly!! Lets not sink into the mud like the readers who lapped up Rita Skeeter when she was writing about someone else. Dumbledore is a great character, and kudos to JKR for letting us into his personal life:)

"Albus and Minerva" - A new sitcom on NBC. Albus and Minerva are joined by friend Rita and Dodge.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Man Emerson was just on Fox and he only spoke for like 5 seconds. By the way people..........Emersons cool with it and we are on his web site.

Posted by wbweasley Oct 20th 2007

Harret_/Lilly_Snape-are you 12 years old or just a bigot? Your "joke" was offensive. Once you log off I will lighten up.

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

whats a bigot?

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

wondermus: i'd definitely watch that! awwh i guess dodge would be jack? and rita does that that raucous laugh that would fit karen's role ;) revengeofpeeves: what did he say exactly? i don't get that channel :( i hope someone puts it on youtube even if it is 5 secs long

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Everyone get excited about the new E! Entertainment special.......In the Magical Closet, Dumbledore's secret.

Posted by Scooby Oct 20th 2007

Albus and Minerva? Brilliant! couldn't you just imagine the long night conversations about love while eating ice-cream....hehe Love the idea of Grindelwald and Dumbeldore being home decor advisors.....lol couldn't you just imagine it? "Now a SERIOUS vanishing charm will remove THAT nasty sofa from your room. It's sooo not colour co-ordinated. Isn't it Albus?"

Posted by Travis Oct 20th 2007

I just saw Emerson on Fox News. I wish the focus hadn't been on what the homophobes are saying, but rather on why Jo would say this (Jo did not just say it to shake us up. She seems to honestly have always seen him as gay, and in my opinion it seems fitting). Emerson mentioned that fans were wondering why she had to bring sexuality into it. Well, fans wanted to know about Dumbledore's love life, and how could she possibly describe it decently without giving his sexual orientation.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

Look for the lost interviews in next month's issues of OUT and the Advocate!

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

LOL So, you think DD wanted Snape around for eye candy? wbweasley --- whatev. I wonder how uncomfortable Harry would have been being left in DD's room alone with him? lol If JKR wanted to add this part for real, she would have put it in the book. She added this part recently. She obviously didn't care what people thought of the Witchcraft part. She likes messing with people. I think it's funny. DD the gay man! So, I wonder why he didn't have a good relationship with his sister? They would have had tons of fun doing each others nails!!! LOL

Posted by performingmonkey Oct 20th 2007

//// I love that this was revealed. It makes it more rea

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

did u die ari??

Posted by sirius_lee Oct 20th 2007

i think u noe danny...

Posted by candygrl Oct 20th 2007

holy freaking crap, Jo is my biggest hero. some commenters are making really good points, but some people are being extremely narrow minded. Posts like: "OMG! I was shocked! Why JK? Why?!? On the other hand that is so cute for Neville!" are so entirely prejudiced. What is the difference? Neville loves Hannah, Dumbledore loved Grindelwald. It's still love. That doesnt make Dumbledore a pedophile. His sexuality did not change ANYTHING about the story, really, did it? There shouldn't be any difference whether it was Harry/Ginny or DD/Grindelwald. That was the most bold, amazing thing she could have ever done, to come out with it when she knew soo many people would condemn her for it. And she didn't just make it up for publicity, she "always thought of him as gay." It's simply a fact about the books. If you think this is TMI, then why wonder who Neville married?!

Posted by Ticci Oct 20th 2007

I suspected Dumbledore was gay as the series progressed and no mention of a female interest surfaced. In book six when he comes out of Slughorn's bathroom and says he does enjoy knitting patterns, I wondered. There were other hints throughout the series. I applaud Jo for covering every race, sex and choice among all people. Truly a pioneer. She covered all.

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

good one ari *claps hands* yeah i do noe...

Posted by Ranger Oct 20th 2007

this is beneath me...but I'll succumb: ---Now we know why voldemore was afraid of Dumbledcre--- and we now know what is worse than death.

Posted by andycaro Oct 20th 2007

Why? Why say that?

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

I think that the revelation about Dumbledore only shows how Jo is an amazing novelist. She has a web of intricate details that serve to paint a very complicated picture. Few writers have the ability to tie things together the way she does. And I think she has something very important to say about intolerance at the same time. I for one am surprised but by no means insulted or repulsed by Dumbledore being a homosexual.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

CANDYGRL, it akes more sense to wonder why shed pull this brownest of craps out her @$$ then think her a hero for deciding randomly some old man was gay when nothing previously sugested it

Posted by wbweasley Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lilly_Snape: each further comment from you reveals more and more of your biases towards homosexuals. Grow up please.

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

i guess your dead but not dead but kinda dead but not really dead or alive

Posted by spotted_zebra Oct 20th 2007

FAN FICTION'S GONNA HAVE A FIELD DAY

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Let's all listen to Grnd3lW4Ld. The man is obviously a genius......"brownest of craps". J.K. couldn't have come up with that. You sir are truly a king of kings. Such poetry I have never heard before.

Posted by ancira Oct 20th 2007

I am in SHOCK. i don´t see anything wrong with it but it's someting I never expected

Posted by candygrl Oct 20th 2007

Grnd3lW4Ld: so because nothing previous suggested it, it's crap? I don't recall ever seeing any previous suggestion of Neville/Hannah. Shall we all diss that ship for another thousand posts too?!

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

lol But gays are such a happy people. I'm just trying to be happy like they are. They're also a very clean people. So, I'm trying to keep it as clean as possible hee hee Even though DD is now a dirty old man. wbweasley --- So, why biased? Gays like to do their nails. You don't know what kind of gay he was. If he like quilts and girly stuff. Whose to say he didn't like to do his nails. There are different types of gays. Look it up.

Posted by Hogwarts_Forever Oct 20th 2007

Dumbledore being gay & Neville marrying Hannah was slightly unexpected. but im not complaining!! man, I wish Petunia had said that!

Posted by ZaeMalfoy Oct 20th 2007

I still can't believe that people are outraged. Just because one charactor is gay doesn't mean that the whole series has a complete turn on it now. Pathetic, really.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape - I think what you mean to say is, there are a lot of different types of gay stereotypes. Look it up.

Posted by wbweasley Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lilly_Snape: You display classic signs of a closeted homosexual. I hope you can come to terms with your homosexuality some day.

Posted by thefictionxwelive Oct 20th 2007

I did have a thank-you list going for Jo's true supporters, but it was starting to get long. The hate list I was writing earlier was even longer, though. This really shows who the true fans are. I'm very glad Jo elaborated on this, not only so we know more about Dumbly, but about the fans.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

I for one don't do my nails, and my apartment is pretty messy. I try to be nice as best I can. Oh and if you watch POA, Dumbledore was definately in for a mani.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

I think that everyones forgetting the main point here. And that is that now we can ask questions such as "was Dumbledore a giver or a taker?", "what is the difference between real and magic dildos?" ......."and how pissed is universal studios?"

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

Hee Hee. Me gay? Nah. I don't like to hurt kids. However, I have looked it up and there are many TYPES not stereotypes of gays. Some gays are really manly but like men instead, others are like girls who like to do their nails, some like to be a little of both. You can't sit there and tell me you know which type of gay DD was. I think he was rather effeminate in the series so him doing his nails is not out of the question.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

So all Gays hurt kids?

Posted by wbweasley Oct 20th 2007

The jokes are all good and fun until someone takes them to heart and commits a nice hate crime. revengeofpeeves and Harriet-Lilly-Snape are both closeted homosexuals who get off on gay-bashing because they secretly hate themselves. Why don't the two of you exchange numbers?

Posted by dancing_hippogriff Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape: I know several homesexual people. All stereotypes are born in truth, and it is true that there are some homosexual men who act "girly" and some who act "manly" but isn't this true of everyone? There are some men who are more "manly" than others, straight and gay. Some girls are tomboys, but not necessarily lesbian, and some lesbians are very girly. It's not like all homosexuals fall into one "type of gay" or another. It's just not true. All people have different personalities, and homesexual people are PEOPLE too.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

wbweasley you broke my heart man. I was just about to get into that argument and take your side. Now I'm starting to think you have a magic dildo up your ass.

Posted by andycaro Oct 20th 2007

Just watched Emerson on Geraldo. He spoke up for the intolerance of some posters which was good to see:)

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

wbweasley --- Hmm...the saying "Who smelt it dealt it" comes to mind! So "If you think someone is gay then you are gay" Think about it sweetie! Come out and tell everyone here! This would be the perfect place to let everyone know!

Posted by FerN Oct 20th 2007

I strongly believe that JKR, like dumbledore, aren't the same person they were once, when they reach fame and power. but why do you creat such a benevolent character if you are gonna destroy him later in the last instance? I don't know,...

Posted by wbweasley Oct 20th 2007

I am a heterosexual female which I disclose only because I want people out there to know that there are some decent heterosexual people out there that believe in gay rights and tolerance of all people. I even tolerate you Harriet_Lilly_Snape even though it greatly pains me to do so. Again, grow up, come out of the closet, do mankind a favor and don't reproduce.

Posted by Tyran_Kiran Oct 20th 2007

These comments are pathetic... Honestly people...if some people are too immature to deal with it, let them be...and some of you are all super defensive over the matter. Who friggin cares?! He's gay...deal with it. I don't personally like it...but w/e I can deal with it. All you gay lovers just need to lay off, and all you people who are making jokes at gay's expense...well...you are entitled to your own opinion, but there is a line between your opinion and just plain rude.

Posted by SiriusLoveGirl Oct 20th 2007

Oh my gosh. WIN. PURE WIN. This just....owns. Seriously. I am a happy happy person that she planned one of her characters (DUMBLEDORE, of all people!) to be gay!

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Whoa, whoa, whoa FerN. Are you actually saying that revealing that Dumbledore is gay ruins his character? I think revealing (not making) his character is gay makes him an even more rich and interesting character, just like most gay people (like straight people) are rich and interesting people.

Posted by Lorcan_Patrick_McCarthy Oct 20th 2007

I tihnk revengeofpeeves is right. We're asking the wrong questions here. He's gay, OK. Now, we need to know more for Grindledore fanfic. And other fanfic, as your preferences may be. I will still read my loved MM/AD, regardless.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007
