More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC 2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.

The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."

Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."

Stay tuned, more to come soon!

weasleychick92 --- I'm upset with the fact that she feels that she can keep so much from us and then tell us when she feels like it. Why not put it in the books? I really think that now that it is over she is just coming up with this stuff now on a whim. She's just trying to make the fans happy. Because I know she would have put it in the book if she really intended to. Trinity7 --- The Epilogue did suck lol

Corbus52, i truely hate you. =] and feel sorry for the sad existence you must lead. shame on whoever it was that embedded such horrible values in you.

Posted by snipesnape626 Oct 20th 2007

wow. i think someone is jealous. but that is cool. believe that i was not there. but if you do ever want proof, i have her signature on my HP deathly hallows book to prove it. ;-) and think before i write? i think someone needs to think before they write something else that will inevitably embarass themselves. i am pretty sure that i am not alone in what i said.

Posted by Nothing Oct 20th 2007

Oh god. I think the fan fiction community just exploded.

Posted by weasleychick92 Oct 20th 2007

revengeofpeeves, you are absolutely right. Now we get to see who the true fans of HP are. You know, I'm not sure I've ever read comments on a Mugglenet post where almost half were negative. It's sad. We're on a Harry Potter FAN site, and people are bashing Jo and the books in general. Wow.

Finished! Finally http://jkrowlingsucks.tri pod.com/index.html

Posted by Layla_DA Oct 20th 2007

For all those bashing JKR and the series I mean we all really see where this is coming from. For those homophobic you truely aren't a harry potter fan if you can't see passed Dumbledores sexuality. The series deals with the tradegy of HARRY and his journey which also is conveyed through his friends. What does his sexuality have anything to do with it? Keep your dislike of homosexuality out of the series, the books do not centre around who is gay etc. Do not turn these beautiful books into some sort of joke and forget what they stand for. BIG WHOOP his gay it doesn't change the course of the whole stor. Had she revealed Dumbledore was really Voldemorts step father or something along the lines, WE MIGHT ACTUALLY have some point in arguing about this. The story is still there. And people should note there was never an after-school special of Dumbledores personal life except seeping into his past. GET OVER IT.

Posted by HP_obsessed_forever Oct 20th 2007

WOW! I can't believe that about Dumbledore! But I guess it's true. It's great that Harry actually did become an Auror and Ginny is with the Holly-Head Harpies. I'm going to print this page off, so I can show it to my friends at school =P. Though I wish that Neville and Luna would have got married, because I think that they fit eachother so well. J.K is a FANTASTIC writer and I love the Harry Potter series so much!

< "if he was gay, and if this was deemed "important" enough by the series' CREATOR then she obviously thinks its an important fact, why the hell weren't the whole harry potter community told earlier in this 17 year journey? why do we have to CHANGE the image of a character we've developed through so many years, and what's more, AFTER the whole experience is actually finished? it's not that i'm mad dumbledore's gay, it's the fact that i'm mad jk rowling didn't include this in the actual books somewhere or at least TELL us like 10 years ago, because now that this whole series is over for us, it's practically impossible to change an image of character you've grown up with. she should have either written this in somewhere OR told us damnit.." Why does a person's sexuality have to determine the way you perceive them? Does it really matter Dumbledore was gay - not at all. I think the fact that he was in love with Grindelwald adds more depth to the man - He couldn't kill him because he cared about him, and strengthens what he says to Harry about love. ABC- "She said Professor Dumbledore had fallen in love with the wizard Gellert Grindelwald, but was crestfallen as Grindelwald turned his talents to the dark arts. Dumbledore was "drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him," she said." And anyone who says 'this is why Dumbledore spent so much time Harry' should be ashamed of themselves - sterotyping gay men as pediphiles is discusting - Why did she tell people he was gay now - because someone asked about his lovelife - http://abc.net.au/news/st ories/2007/10/21/2065195. htm?section=justin Rem ember when Dumbledore says in his office to Snape - "Still, after all these years (probably not the correct wording but you get me...) a part of him was probably crying for Grindlewald - Man, I love Dumbledore - sexuality is unimportant - Dumbledore couldn't really say - "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I w...

for the person who (i'm too lazy too look it up) said that dumbledore could look at harry's but and say "I'd tap that" your freakin hilarious. I almost cried i was laughing so hard. just picture a really old guy saying that. but yeah dumbledore being gay. weirrrrrd.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape I think you need to ask yourself why this so disturbing to you more than the Hannah-Neville revelation. She never told us that. And she never told us what James' and Lilly's occupation was until that particular reading.

Posted by fireking Oct 20th 2007

i just went to your site. jo dosnt hate her fans. making one of her characters gay isnt the end of the world. i hope you know that.

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Well said Layla_DA. We're here with 1600 odd posts strictly about Dumbledore's sexuality which is absolutely irrelevant to the plot of the story. Im sure Jo just ment it to be a little thing about Dumbledore, not this huge scandal that it seems to be turning into.

Posted by Trinity7 Oct 20th 2007

I think the thing with Neville is stupid. Hannah was such a non-character... why bother telling us at all? I did like to hear about Petunia though.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

Thank goodness Dumbledore was not around to see Equus! :)

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

snipesnape626 --- well then, how about this. Take a pic of your "Signature" download it to photobucket, and then post the link to the pic. Other than that, you just proved to everyone that you are more of an idiot and a horrible liar. revengeofpeeves --- I'm just as pissed at that as I am DD. Neville should have been with Luna. JKR had said in a previous interview that they were going to get together. Neville and Luna were a better match. You don't see Hannah that much, especially with Neville, so where did that come from?

Posted by alterego7 Oct 20th 2007

(Cont...) "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I woud like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Oh and by the way kids, I'm homosexual - enjoy the grub." Hm, thought not.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

Thats youre opininion, I have mine. I realize its not the end of the world...dont take it so seriously jeez

Posted by weasleychick92 Oct 20th 2007

Jo didn't put that Dumbledore was gay earlier because it wasn't important! It isn't important! We didn't read 'Albus Dumbledore and the Chamber of Secrets' - with special emphasis on 'secrets'. We were reading about Harry Potter. If Harry Potter was gay, yeah, it would be a tad freakier, and we'd have liked to know sooner. But Dumbledore, however important he was, was still a side character. It never came up, and maybe never would have if it weren't for that question. But I don't think Jo made it up on the spot.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Hey Grndlwhatever, congratulations on officially creating your JK hate website. So what does Laura Mallory's asshole taste like anyways? And thank you Harriet_Lily_Snape, at least you're angry about them both equally, that I can understand.

Posted by monkeyofmayhem Oct 20th 2007

PEDEFILE!!

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

alterego7--- had J.K. told us in the very first book, I think that there is a good chance that It would have been her first and last book. It would not have earned so many billions of dollars. There would be no mugglenet and we would not even be having this discussion.

Posted by DoloresJane Oct 20th 2007

As an avid HP fan and a homosexual myself, I'm able to see the relevance of revealing his sexuality, even if it isn't (and it most definitely isn't) relevant to the plotline of the series. However, I am moderately puzzled, and I would love it if SOMEONE could explain this to me. A few months ago, I believe it just before or just after the release of the seventh book, during a Q&A session: "ROSE: My question is did Albus Dumbledore ever fall in love? JKR: Ummmm... Well, in the course of a long life, I think nearly everyone falls in love, but you probably shouldn't read too much into that answer." It almost seems as though she's being dismissive in a manner that would suggest that Dumbledore's having been in love at some point simply wasn't important. What in the course of just a few months changed her mind? Or am I simply misinterpreting how she responded?

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

i'm back, what's cooking? i think someone should start a grindeldore "phoenixdaysofsummer" fanfic community [just like the sirius/remus dogdaysofsummer one] devoted just to those summer days of our beloved dumbly and gellert ;) rrrawr!

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

alterego7 --- That would have been the greatest beginning to a book ever! LOL weasleychick92 --- She really is making stuff up on the spot though. She contradicts a lot of her interviews from the past. I think she makes so much info for one story that she can't keep up with herself. revengeofpeeves --- Well I am. It's not that gay crap that pisses me off, it's the lies! JKR doesn't listen to the fans and what they want after the story and forgets what she says in previous interviews. Also, what's with Hagrid dying alone. Why didn't he get with Maxine? Thats just F-ed up!

Posted by snipesnape626 Oct 20th 2007

omg harriet_lilly_snape why do you think that JK R owes you soo much! she is an author who writes books that kids and adults everywhere love. why do you feel like she is betraying HP fans by not mentioning every single thing that ever happened in this *ahem* fictional world that she spent so long creating. what if she said that at one time in harry's pre-magical life, he ate dirt. would you freak out and demand that she write that into the books to? because seriously, *and i am not trying to cram my opinion down your throat* if the fact that dumbledore might be gay really has this much effect on your life, then you need some new hobbies. and if that changes your whole views of the book, then maybe you were never a true fan anyways. so sweetie, i think you need to step back and think about what you are going to say before you say it.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

Pretty good, Once I sent her an email with that in it she pretty much let me crawl right in. Im posting from a little niche I set up in here, Nice and cozy. How does jo's taste?

Posted by starslightskies Oct 20th 2007

The fact that Dumbledore is gay doesn't really change how I view him. A few things that have bothered me after reading a few of the comments.. it isn't random or irrelevant. She got ASKED that question, so she ANSWERED it. She didn't just come up with this recently either. She foreshadowed it when Dumbledore was reluctant to fight - and didn't kill - Grindelwald. I'm glad that JK Rowling is okay with making one of the best characters in her series gay, and I hope that her fans will be okay with it too. Anyways, I think that the Neville-Hannah thing is so cute! I actually never thought about that match because Hannah wasn't a big character, but it's a good match nonetheless. (I was hoping for Luna)

Posted by thechosencaptain Oct 20th 2007

No. No. No. I am so dissapointed. It is like JKR is making fun of her own books in a way. Im not against homosexuality at all but most of the world is. If she would have interpreted it into the story, it would have had a calmer effect. "He was in love with Grindelwald" could have made the story less-predictable and made Harry angrier with Dumbeldore for not explaining ANYTHING to him. Someone once asked abuot Dumbledore and love, and JKR answered with "I suppose he loved once in his life." She made this up at the top of her head. Its a publicity stunt, and Im terrible dissapointed in all of this. I wont be able to read the books in the same way.

Posted by kagnomi Oct 20th 2007

Remember folks: We were in Harry's shoes and Dumbledore never told him. It's not like out of the blue Dumbledore pops up from his desk and goes "Guess what Harry? I'm gay!" pLus Harry was too preoccupied with saving the world much to care or ask. But the big WTF goes to the Hannah Abbott thing. It's like Remus/Tonks. Waaaaaay too weird and unexpected. Like she just picked two charries randomly and paired them off. I want Neville/Luna! I want Remus/Sirius! *goes rabid*

Posted by alterego7 Oct 20th 2007

chflitwick----> That doesn't really go with my comment - see above for the beginning - its the very long one. I was being sarcastic with the last bit, as to why she wouldn't include it in the book. I agree with DoloresJane.

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

will someone please send me a link to the jkrowlingsucks website? i have to see it for myself before i agree with all your hate comments.

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape--- I don't think that she is making things up on the spot, and you act like this is historical fact. All this comes from her mind and she has the right to change it if she wishes to. If she says it, it's fact. (or "fiction fact")

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

Yeah I have the link for you Potterfanatic93. It's suckdumbledorescock.com.

Posted by weasleychick92 Oct 20th 2007

I just think Jo's an amazing woman with amazing books and amazing courage. She just added fuel to the fire that people like Laura Mallory are trying to burn her at the stake with, but somehow I don't think she'll care. Jo is still as great as before, and so is Dumbledore. I hope he rests in peace. As to all you fans out there who are sticking with the books despite this revelation, kudos to you. I'm standing with Harry Potter still. I guess the tagline right now should be "Will you be with Dumbledore in the end?" The answer, for me, is yes. For those of you who are beginning to hate the books, how could you let this change your love for the world of HP? It's still the same world. Please open your eyes, wake up and smell the potion. Nothing has changed. This will be my last comment for now, but I just wanted to get my last opinion out there. Mischief managed.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

kagnomi: agreed, sirius/remus all the way! i'm a firm believer that the only reason darling remus hooked up with tonks is because a) she can take on the appearance of anyone [and who do you think remus would like her too like like tee hee] and b) since she's part of the black family, her real appearance [minus the bubblegum pink hair] MUST resemble sirius' in some way anyway ;) anyhow, i suppose this is off-topic. i was really rooting for the neville/luna thing too, but jo did say during one of her other interviews that luna ended up marrying another botanist or some such? hannah was simply too random though..

Posted by snipesnape626 Oct 20th 2007

oh trust me, h_l_s, if you tell me how to get on photo bucket and all of that stuff, then i totally will. it is so worth it.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

"it isn't random or irrelevant. She got ASKED that question, so she ANSWERED it. She didn't just come up with this recently either. " G: She was asked if he found love...that has nothing to do with being gay, a gay person can find love just as easy as a straight one. No need to comment on the sexuality. So yes, It is random, its pulled out of thin air. "She foreshadowed it when Dumbledore was reluctant to fight - and didn't kill - Grindelwald." G: no, no she didnt. She explains why dumbledore doesnt go out and kill him with dumbles own words. " I'm glad that JK Rowling is okay with making one of the best characters in her series gay, and I hope that her fans will be okay with it too." G: Why is that? There arent gay charecters in many books, does that make them lesser?

Posted by Mina28 Oct 20th 2007

well for all of you talking about how dumbledore probably was having his "gay love" with harry, i think that is ridiculous. dumbledore thought of harry as a son, and just as in all familys, fathers don't go after they're daughters in "that" way, and mothers don't go after their sons. So even if dumbledore is gay, he wouldn't go after harry that way. dumbledore was a father figure to harry and in no way would he try to do anything bad to harry.

Posted by Roonil Oct 20th 2007

revengeofpeeves, you're my hero. :) And here's the way I see it. The only reason to put it in the books would be to make the whole grindelwald story make a bit more sense. It all comes together now; why he was so blind to his bad side, why he was reluctant to go after him, everything. That's the only reason to put it in the books. Being gay or straight -- it's not a chosen LIFESTYLE or anything. It's just sexual preference. It isn't a big deal at all. There's no reason to put it in the actual books besides to expand on the whole Grindelwald deal. I don't think JKR's looking for attention or anything (cause she totally needs more of that, right?) I just think she was answering the question honestly. At first I was thinking she was making this stuff up as she goes cause its so random, but once I thought about it it really makes a lot of sense. And about Dumbledore making moves on Harry -- does Hagrid make moves on Hermione? No. It's no different, really. A lot of you guys need to be a little more open-minded and grow up.....

Posted by ChocolateEyedWitch Oct 20th 2007

i really really would have never have guessed that, she never even hinted about it in her books!! THERE IS GONNA BE SO MANY FANFICS ABOUT THIS NOW!!!!!

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

alterego7- I apologize, I didn't see the first part of the post. And in any case i agree that it adds depth to him.

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

moonal --- I agree. Hannah just doesn't make sense. You never saw them hanging out in the books, she didn't get that big a part, and Luna would have been better. Neville deserves better! He's like the best character ever!

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

ouch revengeofpeeves. i just wanted to see if someone had actually taken the time to make a hate website.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

I'm sorry Potterfanatic93. Please accept my digital bandaid for the the damage I have caused. I hope you do not visit such websites.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

yes, i completely don't understand why some of you equate homosexuality with pedophilia. for those of you who are straight, do you look at a child of the opposite sex and think of them in a sexual manner? i sure hope not. then why do you assume that dumbledore would think of harry, who was like his SON, in that way? think of what that implies about you and your perverted minds.. ~~ h_l_s: i agree, neville's one of the best characters and he deserves better! i love how he completely turned into a badass mofo in book 7 ;)

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

I did Potter, its more a couple paragraphs really. Delete the spaces when you put it in the web address bar: http://jkrowlingsucks.tri pod.com/index.html

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

wait till albus severus finds out...

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

moonal ---- Dude! When he cut Nagini's head off I was like screaming "Neville! Neville!" It was the greatest! He did deserve so much better. Why Hannah? That's what makes me think that JKR was really just making things up. Also, how would Petunia know what Harry was up against? She was never in the wizarding world? That would have been a gay line to say (no pun intended)

Posted by Adrienne Oct 20th 2007

That is absolutly horrible. I am sick to my stomach. This not someone i want my son to look up to. I seriously never want to read any of my books ever again... and I sure as hell do not want to see any of the next 2 movies. SCREW THAT!!! JK HOW COULD YOU?????? I am very dissappointed. You should have stuck to you good wholesome story lines. This is not family friendly!
