More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC 2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.

The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."

Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."

Stay tuned, more to come soon!

peeves gosh darnit, Ive told you how it is up lauras as$, now tell me how it is to be jk's bi***!

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape---"Tha t's what makes me think that JKR was really just making things up." Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't she. If she says Neville married Hannah, well, she's the boss. Besides, Luna was taken by that Scamander guy anyway.

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

no thanks revengeofpeeves. i have a package of my own digital bandaids. They have DINOSAURS ON THEM!

Posted by Layla_DA Oct 20th 2007

Thanks chflitwick :)

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

ahah grndl i checked out your ranting page. awh. i love how we're still reacting to this piece of news, we're onto our 34th page of comments! and here i was supposed to be studying for a midterm.. *smacks self* anyhow i just realised something - my 2 fave hp characters have always been sirius and dumbledore. i've always thought sirius was gay, and now jo confirms that albus IS gay. just another confirmation of what a fag hag i am i guess eheh :D

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

chflitwick --- Did she not say in a previous interview that Luna and Neville were going to get together. That's why it shocked fans when we found out Luna was with someone else. Then fans were like, "Who did Neville get?" And we find out he gets a sub-character...it's depressing.

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

sup grinds...wat it smell homey? wats up wit it home-spatula?

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

You're totally right Adrienne. I am so disappointed in JK. I mean to actually attract fans like you who are prejudice and homophobic is completely disappointing.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

Thanks for checking it out, I sure hope you enjoyed my rant! Why do you think sirius is gay :(

Posted by Roonil Oct 20th 2007

Adrienne, your comment makes me sad. Maybe it has to do with living in california but I just dont get the anti-gay thing. I can't see why anyone would think gay people are the devil or anything. If you're not gonna look up to dumbledore anymore cause of that, that's is just the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Maybe they did get together. She's included witchcraft, homosexuality, why not throw in divorce. (Just Kidding)

Posted by snapdragon Oct 20th 2007

To all of you who are getting all uptight about the younger Harry Potter crowd being exposed to homosexuality... I was well-acquainted with homosexuality since the age of 11 and I turned out just fine. One of my mom's best friends is gay and I've known him forever. It didn't scar me to discover what he was back then. I was fine with it then and am fine with it now. I don't see the problem in reading literature to younger children that features homosexual characters. I think that Dumbledore being gay makes his character much more believable and the series much more well-rounded. With the hundreds of characters in the series, it's hard to believe that all of them would be straight. The only thing that disappoints me is that Dumbledore, being all about love, never moved on from Grindelwald to find someone else to love. But of course putting that in a novel that young children read who are still highly under their parents' care would have posed some problems and the wonderful series would have been read less, sadly. It's so funny to find that so many Potter fans are homophobic, when a huge theme in the series is equality.

Posted by Roonil Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape -- Er, actually, she said that neville and luna WOULDN'T get together. Thus, when they didn't, not too many people were shocked. See her website. -->> http://www.jkrowling.com/ textonly/en/rumours_view. cfm?id=24

sup danny. sad to say it smells like crap, on a cause of all of it jk is pulling OUT HER @SS! Anything up with you. Oh btw you can check out my jk hate site here: http://jkrowlingsucks.tri pod.com/index.html

grnd3l: because despite hugging remus like a 'long-lost brother' in the shrieking shack [or whatever the exact words were], i just always thought there was something going on between them during the marauder era. and i like the idea that remus transforms into a wolf while sirius turns into a dog - both are canines

Posted by i_loverz_HP Oct 20th 2007

holler. whats craken?

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

So am I the only one who thinks the "big battle" is just a medaphor?

Posted by starslightskies Oct 20th 2007

Grnd3lW4Ld: Um, I know what the question was. In order to answer the question, and to say that Dumbledore loved Grindelwald, she would probably have to explain that Dumbledore was gay. And about your second point, I'm not really sure what to say, because everyone can have there own opinion about whether or not JK Rowling foreshadowed Dumbledore's sexuality... and well, I think it make sense, along with a lot of other people. "Why is that? There arent gay charecters in many books, does that make them lesser?" No, and it doesn't make them greater either.

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

Roonil --- She said in the beginning they would but changed her mind. Oh well, but Hannah? Is anyone really happy with that choice? snipesnape626 --- we're all waiting for the pic?

Posted by ruthietoothie9 Oct 20th 2007

I feel sick and betrayed. I began reading the HP series because it was a children's book series that I knew was child safe. I have encouraged my children to love the books and movies as much as I have. This has been a family tradition for us since the beginning. Sexuality of any kind has no place in children's literature - and that includes any post script she happens to decide to arbitrarily throw out there. I knew JKR didn't care about her readers, judging by how many people she killed off in book 7 (children's literature? Collin Creevey, for pete's sake!), but this just proves it. Hey, she's gotten what she was in it for - the money, who cares about the integrity of the piece as "children's literature" now? Frankly, I think she is perverse and is trying to indoctrinate children to an agenda she chooses to push. Tolerance does NOT mean pushing what is a very adult agenda onto children.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

my entire comment didn't post! grnd3l: i was going to say that s/r just makes sense to me in the same way that i always knew ron and hermione would end up together -shrug- ~~ ruthie: the hp books don't mention anything sexual, or even talk abt romantic relationships in detail so why would you deny your kids or yourself such great works of fiction simply because of this small detail? ... anyhow, god can you imagine how much it would've sucked for albus to go fight gellert, knowing that he would have to hurt him, possibly kill him or imprison him for the rest of his life? blargh.

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

amen ruthietoothie9

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

ruthietoothie9 --- THANK YOU! That's been the best post all day.

Posted by coleygirl Oct 20th 2007

HAHAHA!!!! Lmao! ive been reading the HP books since i was eight and i never saw this coming!! It doesnt really matter to me if Prof. D. was batting for the other team or not.... it just makes it kind of weird to think about all the times harry spent with him alone in his office! i wonder what rita skeeter would write!!

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Yeah, ruthietoothie9, but you had no objection when Ron and lavender were "snogging," or Cho and Harry's relationship, but when she mentions that Dumbledore is a homosexual, (not even in the books, I might add) Your "Sick and Betrayed." that is homophobia

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

Lol. Doggy style! But seriously if jk said sirius was gay id move to scottland or whatever just so I could punch her in the neck 10 times a day. peeves the entire battle can be perceived as a giant metaphor, I know what youre talking about and I think shed be better off using something else as a symbol for gayness then just saying "Oh yeah and dumbles is gay". Stars light, she didnt need to say dumble loved grind so the whole thing was unnecessary, she could just (*gasp*) let him be straight like 95% of people are.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Oct 20th 2007

omg someone talk to me jerks.

Posted by revengeofpeeves Oct 20th 2007

I'm here for you by i_loverz_HP. Please express to me your crazy ideas.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

chflitwick: excellent point! while the hp series is predominantly a children's series, it has enough "adult" themes - war, death, prejudice, betrayal. it allows us to explore a fantasy world which we can still relate to, because it has the same issues our world does. the absolute BEST thing abt the series is how a little kid can read it and enjoy it just as much as an older fan. i don't see how this tiny detail will ruin the fun for the younger fans, or "pervert" them in any way, especially since there are no explicit references to dumbledore's orientation ANYWHERE in the series.

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

if i hear the word homophobia again i'm going to blow chunks

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Oct 20th 2007

Here are some great Researched statistics about how gays are more likely to molest children then straights. This is probably why most people on this board think it is creepy that DD was left alone with Harry::: http://www.freerepublic.c om/forum/a3b16c39b2b18.ht m

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

ughh. homophobe. the most thrown around term for years. sup loverz

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

hey alizzle!!!!!!! wats up?

Posted by TimmaWilson Oct 20th 2007

Would y'all just quit your whining??!! They are JK's characters, and she has every right to do whatever she wants with them. The books started as childrens books because Harry was a kid in the first book. The books have matured right along with him. Frankly I always considered the characters as asexual. They are just fictional characters, and fictional characters don't have sex lives.

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Harriet_Lily_Snape--- I went to that website, and did you notice who published that report? The SPC Baptist Press. Baptist. A southern conservative religiion that has been extremely outspoken against gays. Do not believe everything you read.

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Oct 20th 2007

i swear to god the next person who says the word homophobia after this will wake up underwater.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

sorry h_s_l but i think any research coming from a religious organisation is bound to be biased. also, despite being a commerce and economics grad, i have to quote benjamin desraili and mark twain - "lies, damned lies, and statistics".

Posted by The_Fat_Lady Oct 20th 2007

Snaps to you, Dumbledore. I wish there would have been more love in his long life. It's sad to think that he gave up on love after Grindie. Also imagine knowing that your long lost love was wasting away in prison while you went on with life... Also makes me even prouder of Grindie for lying to Voldie about never having the elder wand... Just knowing that Grindie was loved by Dumbledore makes him more relevent, too. People- GET OVER IT. I think Rowling wanted people to be realize that even our beloved characters could be gay and still be good. Those of you bitching about it are not only true fans.. you're not nice people.

Posted by wondermus22 Oct 20th 2007

Im glad that some people think that JK Rowling is pushing some sort of sick agenda. Wow, I never thought of my life in those. terms. Sick/adult agenda Thanks a lot.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Oct 20th 2007

revengeofpeeves: thanks for being there for me......i dont really wanna state my ideas again because when i did that before everybody was going berserk on my butt and was like why do u even exist i was like back that shiz up. and then she was like yelling in my grill...people these days. hey grinds and danizzle. whats poppin?????

Posted by ruthietoothie9 Oct 20th 2007

chflitwick - I was actually quite offended by the "snogging", and for the same reason - this is supposed to be CHILDREN'S LIT! My 7-year-old son doesn't need this crap, and he won't get it. We're done with JKR and her agenda, whatever it is. I mean, seriously, pick a genre - is it Children's literature, Teen Lit, Adult lit, or political? This whole bit just seems to me to be something to put JKR back in the limelight. I mean, the books are done. What's going to put her on the news now . . . oh, wait, I know . . . let's create a scandal!!! She may be seeking the limelight, but she's getting no more of my time or money.

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Oct 20th 2007

Timma Wilson, how would you feel if jk revealed that all of hp is a metaphor where Harry and pals are nazis and voldemort and his death eaters are the allied forces? Wouldnt you be mad that jk is messing with the characters as you see them?

Posted by HPFANTimothy Oct 20th 2007

BIG DEAL, DUMBLEDORE'S GAY. My uncle's gay, and to be honest, I don't have a problem with gay people. I believe that everyone should respect everybody, in terms of their sexuality, beliefs and race. I mean, a lot of people are always going on about how gay people are weird, and have been blessed by 'the soul of the devil.' That's usually Christian talk though, but anyway, I'm Catholic, so I say that some Christians are a bit loony *stares at Mallory* JK Rowling saying that Dumbledore is gay... doesn't it just prove that gay people are ok? I never really expected it of Dumbledore, but then again, 'eccentric' comes about a lot of the times in the books describing Dumbledore. I'm with everyone saying that if you have a problem with gay people, get over it. There's nothing wrong with gay people.

Posted by chflitwick Oct 20th 2007

Does anyone know if the two of them were actually involved, or if Dumbledore just had a crush on Grindelwald. I'm a little confused on that.

Posted by ewatsonfan_hpfan_01 Oct 20th 2007

well yeah i didn't expect it much really... but like it wasn't really clear at all in the book... and it's not shown in the movie anyway like how he's gay and all that. and why would the audience applause about it..i mean I'm not against it and all but i wouldn't really applause..i guess they applauded because they didn't want to make it more awkward.

Posted by snapdragon Oct 20th 2007

chflitwick, Potterfanatic93, and ruthietoothie... ALL of you are the biggest hypocrites on this comment board. You don't want your children or other children to be exposed to sexuality because you don't think it has any place in children's literature? I'm sure you didn't have a problem with Ron and Lavender snogging or Harry and Ginny snogging. Or the "Merlin's saggy left--" or "most baggy fronts" comments that Ron gave. But when it comes to homosexuality - THAT deserves to be covered up? Like it or not, your little babies WILL one day discover homosexuality. It makes no difference when it is. All children know what it is by late elementary school anyway. They find out about it in school. Wouldn't you rather your children find out about it in children's literature instead of through what other stupid, immature little children on their playground have to say about it? The former option would leave your children much more well-informed. And about killing characters off in children's literature? Do you seriously want to guard your children all the time? Children must face death eventually. It's not something you can hide. Kids lose mothers and fathers and other family members every day because of diseases and accidents. The best thing for them is to read a book they love that teaches them that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person - and that's what JK really wanted to put out there with her books. It helps children who have lost someone to cope with that loss. It is ignorant to want to think children are as fragile as many adults seem to think they are.

Posted by moonal Oct 20th 2007

The_Fat_Lady: THANK YOU!!!!! i've been thinking about that ALL day. initially, that's why i was angry when jo made her announcement, because i didn't want any more tragedy in dumbly's life -sigh- she also mentioned it was unrequited so obviously gellert didn't feel the same way when they were kids. i wonder if that changed later on? did he think of albus in a different way and trying to redeem himself when he defied voldy or was he simply standing up for a friend?

Posted by The_Fat_Lady Oct 20th 2007

obviously I meant "not only NOT true fans.."

Posted by dannyrob15 Oct 20th 2007

i feel you alizzle. ppls deez dayz...phlll...ppl got pissed off at me yesterday cuz i said dumbledore might have tatoos under his whiskers.
