More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."
Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.
Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."
Stay tuned, more to come soon!
EDIT: Click HERE to see MuggleNet's Emerson Spartz discuss the news on At Large with Geraldo Rivera... and subsequently get parodied on Jimmy Kimmel.

Way to go, Anaela 4, excellent!
ruthietoothie9-- you've got at least one gay person here, and you are still saying that it is wrong and that it is a choice. Do you think you know better than him?
Ruthietoothie - There is a difference between homosexuality being inherently awful and the downfalls cast down on a person who chooses such a life. Please be more careful in what you are saying, because I would be willing to bet that none of the many gay people that you have known in your lifetime have regrets about their lifestyle choice because of how some parts of society has treated them. Also, how is discrediting an entire population just because their lives are harsh in anyway helping bridge intolerance?
LOL - "ageism", hypocrisy, narrow-mindedness, stereotyping, blah, blah, blah - that's called a red herring, dear. You're trying to change a topic of conversation that you are uncomfortable with. Try again.
hey wondermus22 and danny! gosh...i really don't konw how much of this i can take anymore...it's been a long day...i've accepted people's beliefs, even if they are not the same as mine...and i'm getting all depressed hearing about these suicides...can we please stick to the topic? i'm sorry..but these topics just...idk...look at how one announcement has changed our minds about dumbledore...i mean, we loved him for who he was yesterday...us true harry potter fans need to stick together...
i agree completely USApotterfan...i was trying to put it into words but u got it...u r absolutely rite. its was getting really annoying too. "you are so ignorant. get mature. grow up. are u 12? are u 2? why are u so immature? kiddo." that's what i see in almost every comment. plus ppl. its not like ppl. know everyones age here.
I agree USApotterfan - I would be just as upset if someone found out my age after reading my posts and made their opinion of them based on that rather than my posts' content, as if someone found out my sexual preference after meeting me and then made their opinion of me based on that rather than my actions.
If he was "uncomfortable with the topic" why would he post. Hypocrisy, ageism, narrow-mindedness, stereotyping, are all relevant. Maybe you are uncomfortable witht the topic of converstation.
i really dont see why everyone is still freaking out over this. i mean come on guys, what does this really have to do with the book. it does not change anything monumental. although i will agree, it does explain the relationship a little more between grindlewald and dumbledore, but seriously guys, lay off the issue for a while.
One thing I don't get is how this announcement changes everyone's minds drastically about dd....I mean, it wasn't even in the books!!!! I know that as soon as I get over the initial shock, I'm going to forget/ignore this detail, because Dumbledore is Dumbledore, one of the greatest characters in literature, and something so miniscule that it didn't even make it into the books isn't going to change that about him. I would have thought people on here who've grown up with HP and stuff would be a bit more constant and loyal.....
Ok guys, when did this turn into an argument about homosexuality?!
I beg your pardon, but you are the red herring. You have resorted to dismissing arguments because of the poster's age, rather than addressing the points they brought up. Yes, you are being quite hypocritical, and putting "lol" before it is not a very good way of fixing that problem and putting up a logical fight.
ruthietoothie9--- clearly you are way to much of a bigot to learn anything i mean ageism, being a homophbe, im afraid to know what elese you belive. i hope your kids turnout ok inspite of you.
dannyrob15 - The person I was addressing SAID he was 13. And everything you put in quotes is not something I said, so you are either misquoting me or making crap up. :) And Ceywood, with regard to my judging maturity level - it wasn't based on anyone's chronological age, but rather based on what they said.
ruthietoothie9: I’m sorry to hear that your brother committed suicide. So did my auntie, overdose on pills. However, I do not appreciate you saying ‘You are all so young and inexperienced, you know nothing of real life and real pain.’ That could not be anymore less true. I realize that you were indicating that comment to one person alone, however, I see that in another way, you look at children as not realizing and experiencing the same pain as some adults go through. For instance, children do go through pain and experience a hell of a lot. I know. Years ago, a boy in my class’s father died. My grandmother in London works with troubled children, some of which are nine! And then let’s not forget child abuse. And being gay does not change how nice a person is. Some gay people are nice, some gay people are horrible… isn’t that the same as everybody? The only difference is that they prefer their own gender, other than the opposite. And dannyrob: A lot of children are gay, and admit it at a young age. It’s not exactly a bad thing to be gay. Some people believe it is, others don’t. I am one of the one’s who believe that being gay is fine. Who cares? Your children reading about gay people wouldn’t make a difference, as I’m sure later on, they will meet gay people, and hopefully accept them as perfectly normal members of society. Think of gay people as muggle-borns. If muggle-borns were real, I’m sure you wouldn’t have a problem with them.
since about 2 days ago T_P_potter_fan...again i agree with USApotterfan. and honey.
Reading some of these comments is a harsh reminder of how utterly disgusting human beings can be. Being uber-conservative is just being scared of the world. The Church and other groups often make people afraid of their own shadow. Your mind is sick and twisted if you think homosexuality is a SIN or in any way wrong. I can't believe this is happening on here. Dumbledore is gay, get over your own pathetic selves with your sad sad insecurities. Many of the posters here will be gay and if I were one of them I would be extremely angry at many of the others' reactions to this news. Just by law of average, many Hogwarts students would be gay. I bet she could name more gay characters if she wanted to. But so freaking WHAT?? It's perfectly normal, it reflects reality.
Was there really any point for JKR to say that Dumbledore was gay? I think she was just trying to make a statement and I think that we all would agree thats kinda stupid on her part (whether or not we agree with the statement she was trying to make is another story.) Or am I crazy?
please...not everyone here is exactly how you, ruthie, would put as a 'mature adult.' most of us are just teens...but aren't we entitled to our opinions just as you are? we may be younger and less experienced, but nevertheless, we are all harry potter fans.
I think in regards to the age comment, that it should be pointed out that Mugglenet was founded by and currently being run by teens.
well guys i am going to bed. i didnt say much but i read your whole conversation and i totally agree with USA potterfan...
Lol Potterfanatic93  Should I accept that as compliment or complaint? Ah, compliment! I just really like reading, English and history. I guess that gave me a boost!
I just realized : This really kills the old Luna/Dumbledore ship now, doesnt it? xD (Not to sound like some weird perv, but its kind funny after remembering what Evanna said, and then reading this news post.) :}
You know Ruthietoothie, HPFANTimothy is making a better argument thatn you here, and he's thirteen. He has a good deal of knowledge that goes far beyond his yearrs. And yes, children feel the same pain as adults. He is very intelligent and I'm glad that SOME people are raising there children to accept other people rather than rejecting them.
ruthie toothie i wasn't quoting only you, i was quoting ppl. who say that stuff.hpfantimothy, yeah but muggleborns don't choose to be muggleborns. i g2g anway its getting late, have fun arguing and getting nowhere.
Yeah, i agree with honeydukesdukes, just because people have a different opinion than you ruthie, doesnt mean that they are immature...who's to say that you're not the immature one.
Oh just wow. ruthie, for the past 5 consecutive posts I have tried to make intelligent arguments. And not one of them have you responded to, instead you seem to have sunk to accusing everyone here of being immature children. Just as we don't know anything about you, you really know nothing about anyone else on here. To whoever it was that said their friend committed suicide because their parents didn't approve of their homosexuality, I am so sorry. Parents are really a kid's biggest influence, and if a parent is so blatantly biased, it WILL negatively affect the child. Randomly, though, would you have any idea how old I am?!
snipesnape626 and Rutu, it's changing everyone's opinion of dumbledore because they're homophobic. sad, yes?
Ok, honeydukes. I'll concede on that point. Siriusly in love - I agree with you. That was pretty much my original point, but the conversation has become quite convoluted. Watch your back with an opinion like that! LOL BTW - Can anyone tell me Professors McGonagal, Flitwick, Sprout, Binns, or any of the other teachers' sexual orientation??? GASP!!! Another scandal for another day! Oh, I mean besides for the fact that McGonagal was always out "catting" around. ROFLWMCOMN Night kiddies.
dannyrob15-- you are not gay, so how the hell would you know if gays choose their lifestile or not?
Okay, getting back to where this discussion started, which I'm assuming is whether or not to allow one's kids to read the books based on this detail.....Dumbledore's sexuality is NEVER MENTIONED in the books, not even hinted at. So I don't see why children should be deprived of something that is stimulating, enlightening, moral (yes it IS moral and does teach values - friendship, loyalty, power of love, truth, etc.), and simply extremely enjoyable because of something that, in truth, is not really a part of it.....
who peed in ruthie's wheaties?
danny...danny....*shakes head*...you're not gay! ...and thank you for agreeing with us ruthie...goodnight everyone!
I agree with Rutu, but unfortunatly there will allways be thoses hovering parents that won't allow their kids to read them anymore...sad
It's not that I'm against gay people, in fact I love gay people. I just don't know why she would say that. I think it's just publicity. It's been a long time since this may people have been fired up about Harry Potter. And I still love Dumbledore, my view hasn't changed any. Nothing has changed at all, I still think everyone should read Harry Potter. It's amazing, we can all agree on that. But the sad part it that this issue will be all that is remember, when it really has nothing to do with the books at all. Dumbledore's sexual orientation has NEVER been mentioned before... (And I agree, Luna and Dumbledore could have been awesome!)
Snip- The cliche is "who peed in your cheerios", or "who put a scab in your wheaties". See how it makes more sense that way??? Or am I the only one here old enough to know the true origin of those little cliches? Now I really feel old! LOLOLOL
candygrl... you are my hero. "instead you seem to have sunk to accusing everyone here of being immature children" thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
USA and Rutu, you guys pwn. :D So do the rest of the kids/teens on here that are making actual mature arguments. This whole conversation just twisted into an age thing. >:(
Here's my two cents. I suppose i should go ahead and state my opinion and feelings on this...I am a Christian, and I beleive homosexuality is a sin. (ducks) Wow, those of you throwing rocks are getting better. In all seriousness, i was stunned by this. I had been defending this series for years. I never was once offended by her stories and tried to get my conservative Christian friends who thumped their noses at it to open up and just read it and decide yourself. Now i feel like i can no longer try and get those friends and family members to read it. I know some people are going to look at me and judge me to be bigot or closeminded or ignorant or any other label that will make them feel validated in their opinion. Perhaps i am all of those things. perhaps i am none. Do i hate the series? No, i love the series. I love the Christian messages that the book contains. Was there a more Christian theme than Love conquering Death? Am i going to try to stop my kids (ifi have them) from reading the books? No, i won't. Will it change the way i look at Dumbledore from now on? Yes, yes it will. Perhaps it is intolerant of me to allow sexual orientation to get in the way of admiring a character but i refuse to abandon my religious beliefs. Besides what is tolerance? Ask a hundred people get 50 different answers. Doesn't matter i suppose except this: Dumbledore is gay, and i feel betrayed as a fan.
No I don't agree. Making the statement about Dumbledore was the same as making the state about Neville marrying Hannah and how Petunia felt about Harry's quest. The only reason this piece of information SEEMS different is that it is apparently still something that people use when forming their opinion of others. If you don't take someone's sexual preference into account then it has no significance whatsoever other than being another interesting HP fact. Not being a "kiddy" I'll ignore that remark (and on behalf of the other posters who may still fall into the "children" agebracket but do not enjoy being treated as inferiors), but goodnight to you too Ruthietoothie.
Well, that was a very enlightening debate. Although not very challenging...some very good points, ruthie, but in the end, not all that impressive. This is a very interesting topic, though, if anyone has something more mature to add to her argument, go right ahead. Obviously Harry Potter fans respect most viewpoints and there are a handful of people here who I'm sure would appreciate discussing this matter further.
ruthietoothie9-- First of all, who cares about the "correct cliche" and second of all, was it you who was talking about red herrings a few minutes ago, or am I imagining things?
candygrl 3-- i dont think ruthietoothie9 was interested in having a discussion with someone she could no pick on, but i agree with you.and i think what ever a person should be treated with respect unless that person is disrespectful.
Thanks chflitwick! But you know, I was bullied for 3 years of my Primary School life, and I spent a lot of the time reading in the library, kind of like Hermione lol! Anyway, I still go to the library a lot of time and read, but I have way nicer friends at my new school… plus the library is HUGE! Oh yes. And ruthietoothie9, you remember how you said that children to not undergo pain as adults do? Well guess what. I was bullied because my hair was black and I lived in London and Japan for a while. Nobody accepted me. I went through a lot of emotional pain.
thank you candygrl..! Yes most of us are teens..and we actually are acting very mature in this deabte...which goes to show that age doesn't affect your maturity...now seriously i gotta go to bed! bye everyone. :)

Saying Neville married Hannah is not trying to make a statement though. It's not a sensitive issue. You would get a big reaction. That's why this is all publicity, and that's why it is stupid of her (in my opinion.) I always thought JKR was above all that.
HPFANTimothy-- that time in the library was time well spent. Reading brings up your IQ. When you are a successfull doctor or Prime Minister (that's what you call them there, right?), think back to the bullies and wonder what prison they are sitting in.
