More info revealed from Jo's reading in NYC
The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."
Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.
Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."
Stay tuned, more to come soon!
EDIT: Click HERE to see MuggleNet's Emerson Spartz discuss the news on At Large with Geraldo Rivera... and subsequently get parodied on Jimmy Kimmel.

Actually, lydjackson, I don't find it creepy at all that Dumbledore loved Harry. Is it creepy that aunts love their nephews just as much as they love their nieces? Is it creepy that that heterosexual female teachers can be proud of and love their male students, and that male teachers can be proud of and love their female students? The actions are what speak! Platonic relationships are the norm. All of us have far more platonic loves than sexual ones. I hope that you yourself can love one person of whatever gender appeals to you, but that you don't sexually love everyone who who happens to have the gender that appeals to you! Now apply this logic to Dumbledore.
>>i pictured him as a mentor, not a gay mentor. oh hey honey! nm. hbu?
Catie PWNS.
oh no lydjackson...the thought about how hermione alwasys says to harry that dumbledore alwasys loved him...ahah....hey danny...nothing much really...bored....it's 10:10 here....and there too right? ...where is everyone tho...we need ari here...or *ahem...your stalker?
for you people saying stuff like, i pictured him as , not a gay , what you're saying is really ignorant. When you thought he was straight, that didn't define his character, so why should his homosexuality define it now?
what if dumbly does have tatoos under all those bushes on his face? u nvr know i mean who woulda guessed he's gay? maybe he's a muslim...or maybe he's bi...
OK, now I want Alfonso Cuaron to direct DH even more! During the "Nude Harry at Kings Cross with Dumbledore" scene, Dumbledore should say before Harry returns to consciousness "Oh, and one more thing: I was gay with Grindelwald." LOL
ok for some reason my post didn't go through properly, but I asked whether a mentor and a gay mentor were different
I don't know. I just imagine that gay people have a lot of abuse to work through in their lives and it's weird imagining Dumbledore going through that. Like him telling his mom or something. Or his peers calling him Gay Albus. Not that they're anything wrong with gay people, again.
Clearly he isn't bi if he's gay.
THAT'S HILARIOUS!!!! I LOOOOOOVE DUMBLY!!!!! Neville and Hannah? How sweet about Petunia! I wanna know more about the questions! Did Harry ever reunite with the Dursleys???

Lydjackson--who knows? Perhaps the wizarding world is more accepting of different lifestyles than the Muggle world, and that's why it never had to be mentioned? It could be that Dumbledore's leanings, and those of any other gay wizard, were never a big deal to the witches and wizards. If such things were scandals, of course they'd have been outed by Rita Skeeter!
well yeah catie, they are. nah honey, its 11:10 here. no need to put the a.ka, i think we all know that. just making a point snarkeh. anyway i think you choose to be gay or straight. i don't think ur born gay. and since ppl. are judged by their actions/choices, i don't think gay ppl. are all that great. don't jump on me now, just sayin wat i think.
danny where'd ya go?? are ANY cheesecakians on??
Even though I firmly believe that homosexuals should be treated with respect, i must admit, i did experience a huge bolt of shock when i heard the news about dumbledore. I don't think, and this is definately my opinion, that dumbledore doesn't really seem that he would be homosexual. In doesn't really seem to be in his character. I always believed that dumbledore never really found the right person and had just given up. I wish he would have ended up with mcgonagall...
Grindeldore! wooooo!!!!!!!!
Yeah but that goes back to how many people actually knew. I mean like Hagrid and Snape and all them. Can you imagine them all having a meeting in his office where he announced his sexuality? I would so rather it have been Sirius because I don't love him nearly as much and as far as I know he paid James much more attention than he ever did any girl. Hahaha.
omg the reading was amazing, i cried when she came on stage. of all the things that went on during today's show, what i least expected was to find out dumbledore was gay. but i personally thought it was funny, and it sort of fit. i mean, look how he got when maddam pomfrey commented on his new earmuffs...it just seemed like another one of those dumbledore mysteries...
omg! jellybelly919...you are so lucky! it must've been phenomenal!.....and danny, aren't you tired?
i think my bolt of shock was worse than urs tho potterfanatic. mine was like 800 volts.
First of all, shame on you ignorant ones. Second, to the people who said that it was pointless for Rowling to "make" Dumbledore gay, shame on you too. I guess it's safe for me to assume that those of you who said so, have never dedicated yourself on writing a book as long as she did. From personal experience, I can tell you that characters grow and develop on their own at times. Rowling most likely had no initial intentions of Dumbledore being gay, but later on as she got to "know" Dumbledore better, she realized of his sexuality and it just had to be. At least she never disclosed it in the series, because I agree that bit of information was kind of random. But then again, you guys are asking for it. The info of Dumbledore's sexuality is just as unimportant to the plot as Neville's relationship with Hannah. (No offense to the shippers...)
dannyrob- I disagree, but I understand what you're saying. I just don't think it changes mentor status. For instance, when my brother was younger, he really liked to hang out with a gay man named FuzzyBear (the name change was weird, yeah). FuzzyBear taught him how to roll around in a tire, fish, and 'kidnap ants' if I recall correctly. My brother liked to hang out with him because he was fun, not because he was in a relationship with another man. He also liked hanging out with a heterosexual friend of the family, a married man, for the same reasons. Even at four years old, he knew one married a man and one married a woman, but he didn't really see them any different. He liked FuzzyBear's name more, though.
thats.........AWESOME!!! GAY GRANDPAS~! -liz
I was at the reading too it was amazing. Another question from the reading was if Hagrid ever got married and had kids. The answer was no. How sad. When everyone was unhappy, J.K Rowling said," Hey at least I didn't kill him!" It was so funny.
I had a bigger bolt of shock reading what Danny had to say about gay people than learning Dumbledore is gay. That's right, because gay people definitely would chose to be something that they will be hated for. That people will be rude to them because of it and possible even physically attack them. That is super logical. I honestly always try my hardest to accept other peoples opinions but when people say this it just...it honestly just baffles me.
Okay I am surprised JKR chose to reveal that but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. For all I care Dumbledore can have any sexuality he wants - they all can. I don't think the fandom should have the series "ruined" for them as so many comments have lamented. People are gay, people are straight, whatever. It happens in life it shouldn't be taboo for a book.
F*** YOU JK. IM F***ING PISSED THE F*** OFF, F*** YOU!
JKR is genius! A gay Harry Potter character....wow. That takes true guts. This proves JKR is God. :D
snarkeh, I think the world is a rougher place than you realize. I liked your word choice. Especially baffles.
aw...grinds?! come on...write!
okay snarkeh, so ur saying its in genes huh? ppl are born gay rite? sure. keep telling urself that. if ur christian than maybe u should read a book called the Bible.
Thank goodness she cleared that up! I'm so sick of seeing those Dumbledore-McGonagall fanfics! And that comment someone made about Slughorn and the Slug Club back there... that was just kind of gross...
To be honest, I'm a bit put off by this. Not so much because of Dumbeldore's sexuality, but more the fact that we find this out at a reading 3 months after the final book has been published. I mean, why make Dumbledore gay at all, if you're not going to put it in the books? Cos think about it- your average harry potter fan doesn't go on the these fan sites. They read the books and enjoy them for what they are. They wont find out about these question and answer sesions with JKR. I don't know. I just think it's.....I dunno.
Awsome! My gaydor was way off I never seen that comming. But Very cool I have new respect for J.K and Dumbledore.
I guess I win that five bucks, (Hey KTK, you owe me money, dumbles IS gay!)
I'm going to write a fanfic about Dumbledore confessing to Harry at King's Cross that he's gay.
LMAO! I love you peoples joke about Dumbledore and Harry relationships. I can just see the fanfiction just starting to pour in. With Harry/Dumbledore and Dumbledore/Grindeweld as the pairings!
in one of the pages it says She always thought of Dumbledore ``as gay,'' she said. But things didn't turn out with Grindelwald, his mental equal, who died in 1945. but didn't dumbledore just DEFEAT grindelwald in '45? didn't voldemort kill him? :S just a bit confused
Yo Grnd3lW4Ld, I'm having some dificulty filling in the *s. Maybe you could help me out here. And dannyrob15, I have to say your growing a bit obnoxious here bringing up the bible. From what I've gathered, your not exactly Mother Teresa either, bud.
and fyi, genes are for PHYSICAL things u inherit, not emotional.
all very good points chistar....hm...and yes...i wonder how many fanfics there'll be by this time tmrw...
i love it. it's awesome :D
I never said it was in peoples genes. But if people decide to be gay then I guess you're just the better person since you decided to be straight, right?
I have to second Snarkeh and say that reading through these comments is irritated and astonishes me. To see so many people being enraged or upset by Dumbledore's revealed sexuality, or slamming homosexuality is appalling. To say people choose to be homosexual is NOT something anyone has the right to say, nor is it acceptable to decide to hate a series you've known and loved for upwards of 9 years because one character is different. Frankly, I'm a little disgusted by what is going on here, and I say, more power to you Jo.
When I first read this right now I ran into the kitchen and yelled, "DUMBLEDOERE'S GAY!" And my mom was like, "What?!" Oh my gosh, that made my day!! I can't wait to tell all my not-so hp-obsessed friends at school! That is HILARIOUS!!!
Grindelwald was gay with Dumbledore? And today was Michael Gambon's birthday? Wow....what a coincedence! Happy Dumbledore's GayDay!
i think it's pretty cool that dumbledore loved grindelwald... it's just a bit of a shock though. and i don't think people choose to be gay or not and to bring the bible into this is stupid
dannyrob- Do you eat pork? Cheeseburgers? Turn the lights on on Saturday (or Sunday, I suppose)? Wear blended fibers? Shave your face? Carry things in and out of your house on the Sabbath? Eat filet mignon? Eat shrimp? Masturbate? Lust after someone? Take the Lord's name in vain? Disrespect your parents? Own a crucifix (see making an image of God, although one could discount this one by saying that Jesus was the son of God, and not actually God)? All of these are considered an abomination, punishable by death and an eternity in hell. If you believe that Jesus came to take away all sin, it is my opinion that you should be equal-minded about it, and not just the sins you choose to partake in. That being said, I'm Jewish.
whoa...d_r_i_m_h...it's michael gambon's birthday??? no way! ....and uh..lydjackson....come on, you don't have to be sarcastic like that...grinds and danny are my buds so just...lay off?
