Another update was made to JK Rowling's official website today, in which it was announced in the news section that not only has Jo written 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard', the book of fairytales mentioned in Deathly Hallows, but also that the seventh of these rare, handwritten items will be auctioned for charity, The Children's Voice, with a starting price of £30,000.The book includes the previously heard, "The Tale of the Three Brothers", as well as new stories, "The Fountain of Fair Fortune", "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,", "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump" and "The Warlock’s Hairy Heart".
The auction will take place at Sotheby's on December 13th 2007.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Cool! I soo want it! That must be the passage Hermione read... 1st?
I so want to bid on these items ... woohooo 2nd
I wonder how much it will go for? 3rd?
I am so jealous!!!! I would love to have this book. Whoever gets it will have to bury it somewhere or people will try to steal it or something.. It is the passage Hermione read by the way : )
I hope that in the future, Jo publishes a regular version of the book so that everyone else gets a chance to read the stories. We're not all millionaires...
6th? Yeah, I'd really want to read those stories!
I WANT IT!!!
OMGOMGOMG!!! That's so AWESOME! Can't wait! I'll definatly get this!
Finally- I was wondering when they'd post this. It's been up for hours.
but i want to read it too!
It'll be pirated on the internet the day it comes out. Really. DH was online within HOURS of being released, so as long as whoever wins the auction isn't some tightwad right wing loser we'll have the book online somewhere. :) I don't condone piracy, but if she never intends to publish the book for the general public there's really no harm in it since she wouldn't be making money off it anyways.
I totally agree with u blaze_burner, I hope it gets published normally too, cuz i (and many other people in here) cant auction! i'm sure the prices will shoot upto thousands, and i dont happen to be a millionare.
COOL!!!! I want it I want it I want it! (wow this really brings out the Dudley in me, doesn't it...?)
Very true, de_lycanthrope. And I hope that she'll publish it one day. I want that book! Unfair!!!
I don't see why she can't publish the books and then give all royalties to the charity. Surely the sheer number of fans willing to buy the book would make much more than a single person buying the book?
Oh wow!!! I want that book so much!!!A handwritten copy would be AMAZING!! But I'd settle for mass-produced printed copies!! lol
thats soooooooooooo coool...she should publish that..
Oh that is cool. She will publish it most likely... And if she doesn't, it will make it's way across the universe by other means before too long. :] I want to read them all.... Even though I've read The Tale of Three Brothers, there'd be something particularly satisfying about reading it from it's real source (even though it's fictional, it feels real.) :) Thanks JK.
That's amazing! It's really like her to come up with thank you presents like these... And, wow... hand-written, embellished with silver and moonstone... with new info... this will raise something with at least six figures! I really hope that the information will be published... or will miraculously appear on the internet... I want to know about the cackling stump!:)
That's so cool! It would be pretty flippin' awesome to have, but that kind of stuff is for people who have $50,000 to burn.
It would be so great if I had this... but obviously it will sell for ten of thousands of dollars...
so i want it so bad. maybe someday she'll have a version available to everyone
awww i wish i could get it :/ i wonder if that was the "children's book" she was working on. lol. she should write hogwarts a history. that would be cool.
i'm sure EVERYONE would go and buy it if she made it for everyone. GAH i want it ! ! !
I need to know about the cackling stump!! Wa... It would make an awesome book to have..
I really need to read those stories, it sounds fantastic and no doubt this charity will get a LOT of money! Oh how I wish I had unlimited money!!!!! I also really want to know about this warlock's 'hairy heart'.....
luckily i am a millionaire....not
I hope she eventually publishes it so all us fans can read it, not just the millionaire who wins the auction.
um thats like 43,000$ in the US!!!!!! ISNT THAT sry isnt that a little pricey?!?! i would pay for a published copy but i dont have quite that much
speaking of updates to her website, i was just there and theres no new wizard of the month, which is wierd cause its november now. maybe itll be up later...iwonder who? has she ever done hermione or ron? o wait i can just check in the new archives
If the money is going to charity why would she only auction one book? If she published the book everyone who reads Harry Potter would most likely buy it and it would make hundreds of more times of money as the auctioned copy. She could then donate all of that money instead of a little bit. It would be a win for the fans and a great win for the charity
I have this gut feeling that we're only gonna read this book (us non-millionaires, anyway...) on the internet's pages... and never on paper! I don't know why... but I think that if Jo spent time exclusivley handwriting 7 copies of the same book, each with a different stone... or whatever... I don't think it will be published for the public. If it does, I will be extremely happy... I just don't want to raise my hopes! Some people are wondering if this is the children's book she's been writing... it's not, cuz in the article she mentions that she thought of writing "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" after DH, but she's had the children's book on her mind for a very long time.
how can she seriously publish only seven books, thats completely f up. i think that she has lost her mind, how can she ruin our heroish Dum. then make only seven books that the whole series is basec on?? crazy
I WANT THE BOOK!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR
i checked the wizard of the month archives, and shes never done hermione or ron, so maybe theyre next. shes never done any of the cuurent hogwarts teachers either. besides dumbledore, harry and the school founders, its all been totally random people the funny thing is, felix sumberbee, inventor of cheering charms, was in there twice. funny how his name is felix like the potion-for a second i thought jo meant him and had put him up there to give us a hint years before number 6 came out.
AWWW....i wish she would just publish it so everyone would get a chance to read it...ohwell..
WANT!!! AHHHHH! i really really really hope that whoever buys it will at least share some of the story with us! however unlikely that is....
Oooh! I hope she decides to publish this, I'd love to read it! And while she's at it, when do we get to read "Hogwarts: A History"? I've been dying to read that one too!
So does that mean they'll be be published one day??
-"If she published the book everyone who reads Harry Potter would most likely buy it and it would make hundreds of more times of money as the auctioned copy. " but then it wouldnt achieve the appropriate peaceful end to harry potter the way she wants it i think...everyone would be rushing to buy this book and creating another uproar of parties and queueing...then thats no different from book7... yup hope to at least read the content online or something
Arghhhh I want to read it!! Someone go and bid it! And tell me the story! XD
One can only hope, it is bought by a true fan, not a millionaire who keeps it to himself. I hope the fan will be willing to share the book with us, the online HP fans.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!11 Okay, it's great for charity. REALLY REALLY brilliant, in fact. *thumbs up to Jo* But this is SO cruel to HP fans who want another piece of HP's world. She'd probably raise more money selling it like she did Quidditch Through The Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Children In Need is right around the corner as well, and there's Comic Relief next year. I SINCERELY hope this will be made available to the general public eventually. PLEASE GOD let this be available to the general public eventually. I don't care if I have to wait years, as long as I know it's coming out some day.
PS. I think Mugglenet should bid on it, by like - setting up a paypal account where fans can donate or something :D
That's really awesome she's doing this.. too bad I'm not rich though.
I wonder if we can start a petition or something to get this published? I really love the idea of the books. 7 books with different semi-precious stones. I feel like going on a treasure hunt and finding all the copies of the book.
Oh my gosh, never have I wished more desperately that I was filthy rich.
:( !!!!!!! I WANT IT SOOO BAD!!!
oh come on!!! there only making 7 of them!!!!! shed probaly get the same amount of money if she printed more!!!!!!!!! more maybe! everyone would want one. well every hp fan!
i think its cool she's written 'Tales of the Beadle Bard' it shows that there is so much more to the Harry Potter universe then what's just in the 7 books. I don't like JK rowling at all to be honest i think shes a rude snooty British twat. But i have to say, the amount of time and effort she put into Harry Potter is soo cool, she created a whole universe and character history for everyone, even if we didn't read about it. The only thing she didn't do is create a language for Parseltoungue like Tolkein created Elvish, but personally i think that would be over the top weird and i'd assume she was a bit crazy if she did that. What i really want her to do is write that encyclopedia so we can get the missing information from the epilogue. She never told us who George married!! Does anyone know why George and his son Fred weren't at the train station with the rest of the weasleys/potters ? surely he was around the same age and had to go to Hogwarts no? Did Jo just forget about them? BIG plot-hole there Jo. NOT HAPPY!!
