Amazon.com Revealed as Beedle the Bard Buyer (UPDATED)
Amazon.com Revealed as Beedle the Bard Buyer (UPDATED) UPDATE: Amazon has updated their site with their first review of the tale The Wizard and the Hopping Pot. Use the links below to see that review and more as they are posted.

The online retail store has announced on their website that they made the $3.98 million purchase of Tales of Beedle the Bard at the Sotheby's-hosted charity auction today. Along with this announcement, they have released several details about the book:

- The book is 157 pages.
- Amazon plans to "take the book on tour to libraries and schools so that kids can get a look at the magic in the Bard's own handwriting."
- Amazon will not be making a print version of the book (they have no rights to publishing its contents).
- On this page, you can find several high quality pictures of the book in all its glory. At the bottom of the page there is a video where JK Rowling's note to the buyer is read.
- Amazon promises reviews of all five tales included in Beedle the Bard.
- Official press release right here.

Amazon.com--not what I expected, but okay, I'm just insanely jealous! Almost 4 million is a *bit* of out my price range! And it's a gorgeous-looking book.

Posted by rooon Dec 13th 2007

I want it........ it would be really really cool! : ) : )

Posted by dancefool1 Dec 13th 2007

Cool! Andrew you are rocking today!

Posted by iheartmugglecast Dec 13th 2007

Oh yeah... that was me who bought the book. I just happened to have roughly FOUR MILLION DOLLARS in my pocket. LOL jk. I wish I had bought the book though- I'd love to be able to have that sort of information.

Posted by armormew Dec 13th 2007

Wow. What a surprise that a normal person didn't get it.

Posted by cellopower Dec 13th 2007

Wow! I'm kind of glad that they got it, instead of a normal person. ;) Because then we can see more of the book (I would think) than if a very, very, VERY rich person just bought it.

Posted by sillyme Dec 13th 2007

go amazon! that was so good of them to bid for the book. it does make me feel better that amazon got it and not some insanely weealthy person. i just hope jkr's handwriting is legible, it seemed kind of messy in the pics!

Posted by hedwig794 Dec 13th 2007

wow that is so cool! top 15?

Posted by rooon Dec 13th 2007

# 14!

Posted by randomchat Dec 13th 2007

Two words: HOLY CRAP. What are they planning to do with the book?

Posted by Jakeh91 Dec 13th 2007

Wow, thanks Amazon.com that is in a way thanking JK Rowling for everything, I am extremely glad to see that they did such a charitable thing, sorry to see that the US Dollar has lost so much value though the Pound is twice as valuable as the dollar, I hope America doesn't collapse too much

Posted by kpo9876 Dec 13th 2007

Wait, so Amazon has it? I thought it was that print company.

Posted by mooseman93 Dec 13th 2007

Posted by cheeringcharm Dec 13th 2007

I wish they had publishing rights. It hurts that us fan won't get the opportunity to read the tales. Of course, I am very glad for the children who will benefit from 4 million dollars!

Posted by rooon Dec 13th 2007

: )

Posted by leliela Dec 13th 2007

Oh man. I really want to read that book!! I hope Jo decides to publish it like she did with the Quidditch and magical creatures ones for charity as well. And well, we don't know yet who got the other 6 ones!

Posted by GriseldatheGood Dec 13th 2007

I wonder if it means they're going to read the book to the kids, or just let them look at the thing... if the former, there are bound to be internet leaks within a few months!

Posted by madmuggle15 Dec 13th 2007

That''s pretty cool. :]

Posted by member_of_SPEW Dec 13th 2007

YES!!! YESYESYESYESYES!!!!!!!!!! this is exactly what I was hoping for! Now we WILL get to read it! (They can't post reviews if no one can read it! they better not) ohhh i'm so excited! i hope i get to see the book - any word on a tour schedule yet?

Posted by Keket Dec 13th 2007

oh that is absolutely *beautiful* no other word for it! I wish I could see it with my own eyes, or hold it, even just a short while. just...wow... but am I the only one a bit annoyed it's written in blue ink? black or brown, with red details..mm...maybe it's just because I'm an over-enthusiastic art student:P

Posted by _Kettleburn_ Dec 13th 2007

VERY cool. I definitely hope that they bring it to RI. That's great that it can be shared rather than have just one person own it and only the people closest to them see it. I'm excited!

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Dec 13th 2007

very cool....thats a good idea...

Posted by harrypworshiper Dec 13th 2007

Amazon, you are truly great. I love you whoever is generous enough to give us (lesser rich) people a chance to discover J.K. Rowling's creations. Truly, truly great. I am so thankful for this opportunity and will be awaiting news of the tour with bated breath!!!

Posted by snapeward777 Dec 13th 2007

aww i want it so bad. I wish they had made a print version of the book. then we could all get it, and I would have something else to read besides reading Deathly Hallows over and over again. lol. I still cant get over it. not that I have a problem reading DH all over again

Posted by hpninjaskills Dec 13th 2007

AMAZON BOUGHT IT?! Lol. Woww :) I didn't see that coming. Anyway, they're very lucky =) and those shots of the book are so BEAUTIFUL !

Posted by Lydia_13 Dec 13th 2007

omapwbd!! are you kidding me!? this BLOWS!!! i was hoping a die hard fan would get it and black market it!!! WTF!? Screw Amazon.com.. UGH ****... ugh i really really want that book. you have no idea. i think JKR is a huge muggle for doing this to us.

Posted by Ranger Dec 13th 2007

Posted by hpintwense06 Dec 13th 2007

Wow, Jo is a great drawer! and to think she had to draw those things more than once, as well as the writing! i think it's cool that Amazon is gonna take it on the tour, but they were the last people that i thought would buy it.

Posted by yellow_ravenclaw Dec 13th 2007

I was so sure that someone was just going to buy it and keep to themselves, but now amazon's got it and they're sharing it. Yay! Does anyone think they might go to other countries- say a little north of the border? :)

Posted by Lady_Auror Dec 13th 2007

Wow...that book is really beautiful!! Its so unique.....i wish they were gunna make mulitple copies.....i would sooooo buy one!!!!!

Posted by Bellatrix_25225 Dec 13th 2007

WOAH! Thats so weird! I didn't expect that!

Posted by chickenwiretire Dec 13th 2007

Woah, Wait. Thats contradicting the earlier post, that gave a link to the CBBC News Round which in its article said this: "The book was bought by a picture dealership from London called Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox. They are a company which normally buys paintings and drawings." I don't understand whats going on with all this. ):

Posted by tigwigl Dec 13th 2007

i find it so hard to believe that it sold for that much!!!!!!!!! yea! i was #1 on this post. :)

Posted by rooon Dec 13th 2007

why?..................... .... ?????????????

Posted by harryogesh Dec 13th 2007

I hope they go to Singapore. But really, its a goood thing that Amazon bought it, they can show it to other people. if a ordinary insanely riich person, all he would get a is a book of five short stories, one of which had already been read. I'm not saying the book is a piece of junk, but it will soon be read and them what? There will be no speculation, huge reveals, nothing. just a book of fairytales, that will soon get boring. All fairy tales get boring sooner or later. So, Im saying i would love to read it, but i wont spend four million for it. Would you give four million, for Cindereela, Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and The Three Pigs and The Wolf?

Posted by love_padfoot Dec 13th 2007

that is sooooooooooo number 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant wait to read it!!!!!!!!!

Posted by tonks_394 Dec 13th 2007

I don't use this word loosley but I can honestly say that I love Amazon! Thank you so much!!!!!!

Posted by Oddymcjabs Dec 13th 2007

i wonder how JK feels..........

Posted by love_padfoot Dec 13th 2007

can u believe wat harryogesh said! if its by jk rowling then it will nvr get boring just like the harry potter books!!!!!!!!

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Dec 13th 2007

I can't believe amazon bought it but better them than some random rich person!

Posted by Ticci Dec 13th 2007

A CNN article says the buyer is London art agent Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox.

Posted by mrcw09 Dec 13th 2007

MUST HAVE! *DROOLS*

Posted by Nizmat Dec 14th 2007

JO ROWLING HAS A HEART AS BIG AS THE WORLD!! £1,950,000 will do so much good for all those poor children. My family are not getting presents from me this year, because I spent my money on something more worthwhile than bits of cheap nasty mass produced rubbish that will be forgotten in less than a week and collecting dust inside a month. The money I would have spent on the aforementioned, has paid for 4 disaster kits, 1 community drinking water tap, 4 midwifery kits, 24 ducks, 3 pigs and a herd of goats, all for 3rd world communities. It cost me about £200. Do your bit too...check out presentaid.org

Posted by the_kai Dec 14th 2007

Wow. And here I was assuming some rich old collector would buy it and hide it away somewhere. What a turn of luck that someone like Amazon would buy it instead! I have a feeling they're probably not allowed to just post pictures of each story for us to read, which is why they would have to paraphrase or "review" as they did. I wonder if they had to sign anything...? Also an incredibly well-played PR move on Amazon's part.

Posted by BrianaBird Dec 14th 2007

That was an AMAZING thing that Amazon did, to buy the book and let people all over the world see it and have the ability to look at this exclusive piece of Jo's works. I'm going to go over to the review - I'm so excited! THANK YOU!
