Amazon.com Revealed as Beedle the Bard Buyer (UPDATED)
Amazon.com Revealed as Beedle the Bard Buyer (UPDATED) UPDATE: Amazon has updated their site with their first review of the tale The Wizard and the Hopping Pot. Use the links below to see that review and more as they are posted.

The online retail store has announced on their website that they made the $3.98 million purchase of Tales of Beedle the Bard at the Sotheby's-hosted charity auction today. Along with this announcement, they have released several details about the book:

- The book is 157 pages.
- Amazon plans to "take the book on tour to libraries and schools so that kids can get a look at the magic in the Bard's own handwriting."
- Amazon will not be making a print version of the book (they have no rights to publishing its contents).
- On this page, you can find several high quality pictures of the book in all its glory. At the bottom of the page there is a video where JK Rowling's note to the buyer is read.
- Amazon promises reviews of all five tales included in Beedle the Bard.
- Official press release right here.

OMG I don't even know if I want to read the review! This was such an awesome thing Jo did, I'm so proud of her! YOU ROCK, JO! :) But, when (if) I read the review, it will probably make me want to read it even more! But I can't... well, you all know why lol. It's like DH being released only to one person, would you want a paraphrased version, or would you want to just imagine yourself what would happen.... ? OMG I AM SO FLIPPPING TORN! UGH! Any suggestions, unless I don't hold out, and just read the thing --- xmugglecastismylif ex aka Rosieee

If its going to tour elementary schools, I want to be back in elementary school. Whyyyy can't it tour colleges?! I am a hard core fan, as well as a number of other people at my university. I wanna see the book!

interesting story..but amazon sshould reveiw 'baity rabit and her cackling stump' sounds just as interesting..

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Dec 14th 2007

This is so interesting. I hope Amazon reviews every story. I'm really glad they bought it or we might never have found out what the stories are about.

AWESOME!!!! I just read the review of the hoppin pot-I love the storyline!!! So much better than our fairy tales. She could have the entire world doing good if she published this!!! I'm so gladd that amazon bought it - we can guarentee that they will try and make as much money/PR as possible out of it...all the better for us!! I think, if I had 2million then i would have bought this-money is too decietfull and I'd love to read this book. And it goes to charity, so no problems there!!

The review is awesome! And the pics are great, too! JKR is a great artist. :D I'm so glad Amazon is sharing it with the world. I hope they come to a library near me, but they probably won't. I don't live in a big enough city. I agree that they should tour colleges. The people who have been reading HP since it first started and have waited years for new books are in high school and college now.

Hm. I refuse to read the review before I read the story, even if that means I never read it at all.

Posted by dark_nymph Dec 14th 2007

OMG, what a beautiful book! I really wish I had one... however, there are plenty of people much more deserving than I am, and I really hope they enjoy the Tales! ^__^ I'm a little embarassed that I still don't own a copy of Quidditch through the Ages! I'll have to order a copy sometime after Christmas! I do have Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and that's a really fun book:)

I like the fact that Amazon shares the images, but so help me god if they sell tickets to see it, make money off of it. -------- It's a shame that a real fan can't get the book - they deserve it more. They care about it more than a bunch of millionaires. I support the charity, and that is awesome, but give it to someone who cares, for God's sake. -------- With Respect, Clark D69

Okay, this sucks!! This isn't the first time she decided to do something and put it an UNREACHABLE price where her true fans can't get it. She did it with art work, she did with a the Black family tree and now she doing it with this book. I assume it for charity , but why don't you give your money away to charity and let your real fans have these items!! Was there any reason you couldn't put the Black family tree on the back cover of the 7th book? NO! Was there any reason she can not mass print this book NO! She is just being a selfish cow! PS Get over yourself, because the 7th book wasn't that good!!

I swear, it kills me how some of you keep talking about her "true fans". If you were her "true" fans, you would realize the reason JK keeps doing this, especially for charity: its because, and I know it might be hard to believe, that there are SOME people in the world who can't even afford ONE of the Harry Potter books, let alone food on the table at times. Unlike most of us who complain about not being able to get a book they can't afford, some worry about clothing or shelter they can't afford. I still can't believe that JK's charity business is not letting out the good in some people, but the bad. I guess she has to pull a Warren Buffett to satisfy you, huh? (and FYI, Warren Buffett is the guy who donated most of his millions to charity, like any of you care...)

Here here, K_nighty_K_night!! I completely agree...thank you soo much to Amazon for posting a bit of JK's fabulous writing...the story was so lovely! I'm glad that not some rich rich person bought the book and kept it to themselves...it's so much better for fans to get a glimpse of the book! :D

Posted by Dragonprincess25 Dec 14th 2007

You know what I am all for charity. She can write a check too, and give the TRUE HARRY POTTER fans what they want. Incase you don't understand, She writes a check to a charity for some million dollars out of her own money! Everyone knows she good for it! DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW??????

Posted by K_nighty_K_night Dec 14th 2007

Have you ever heard of the phrase "You get what you get, and don't throw a fit?" There are numerous, and I mean NUMEROUS, things that she can easily give to her fans, from a scrapbook of all of her original transcripts to every single textbook ever mentioned in the books. Have you survived without those? Do you honestly think its the world will end if JK never mass produces this book?

Posted by bella97 Dec 14th 2007

wow those pictures are incredible!! it would be so cool to be able to actually read it!

Posted by Dragonprincess25 Dec 14th 2007

JKR is cheap! She doesn't want to give her own money away, so she gives away stuff that the adverage Harry Potter fan wants for millions of dollars! Then, she says...yeah charity you can have that!! Then there stupid people who start saying "Wow JKR so great" BS!!!

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Dec 14th 2007

I WANT IT!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!! =]]]

Posted by Clark Dec 14th 2007

Why wouldn't we deserve to see the book? I'm not preaching, and I'm not putting fans on a pedestal but we kept her up. Money ASIDE, a fan, not a millionaire deserves the dahm book. I'm not talking about a rabid idiot, but I kid three steps north of say Bangladesh in the middle of nowhere who stays up every night reading the books and escaping. You know Amazon just wanted it for show. Most of the bidders didn't give a DAHM about the charity. Rowling's head is worth more than a fortune. They just wanted to say they got Rowling. What the heck do they need it for? We want to see it. We CARE. I don't give a DAHM to have the book, but I WOULD like to see the stories. I'd KILL to see the stories and that's all I want. It's a part of the World we embraced, and we'd like to enter it one last time, thank you very much. She's noble to put her head up for charity and charity alone - she's just a good kid (no talking down by any means, I'm honest). I like that. But she should publish (print) the works publicly (as books you can buy) after the money is spent and goes off to it's proper place (in the hands of those who actually need it). We deserve to read the stories. I'm not bashing at all, trust me. --------- The End. With respect, Clark (D69)

What amazon.com did was amazing... Thus we'll have at leats the slightest chance of getting to know SOMEthing out of Tales of Beedle the Bard... I'd rather like to have it myself, though^_^ I'd kill to have this book :) But since there are so few copies it's unlikely that someone would let something slip because it could easily be traced back to him/her... :(

Posted by Ruby_321 Dec 15th 2007

oh my goodness! thats amazing!!! i wanna see it!!!

Posted by Dragonprincess25 Dec 15th 2007

What the hell is so amazing about Amazon.com? That they took the book and not the true fans. The fans who stood in line at midnight waiting for the book to be released! Those are the fans who should get the book!

Posted by Mariami Dec 15th 2007

If some of you were really true fans, you wouldn't be whining so much about Amazon getting these stories and not you. Do you have 4m dollars? Well, that money that amazon DID have is going to charity and to help so many people around the world. It was Jo's decision to do it that way and we all should respect it, as true fans.
