ITV offers final sneak peak at JKR documentary
ITV offers final sneak peak at JKR documentary ITV has sent us a final clip from the upcoming documentary "JK Rowling... A Year in the Life." It shows Jo drawing out the family trees for both the Potters and the Weasleys. Click the link below to see the video and an accompanying press release. The documentary will air on December 30th on ITV at 7:00 p.m.

You can take a look at the family tree shown in the documentary by clicking here.

UPDATE: Jo has also updated her site to put the family tree behind the usually-locked door.

HARRY POTTER – WHAT HAPPENED NEXT…

JK ROWLING MAPS OUT HOGWARTS PUPIL'S FUTURE

AS SHE REVEALS STRUGGLE TO LET HER HERO GO

JK Rowling has revealed that after seventeen years engrossed in the Hogwarts world she created, it was almost impossible to let go of her hero Harry and his friends, so much so that she has mapped out their futures in a family tree.

But, she insists that the stories of these characters, their relationships and their children, will remain locked in her imagination, ruling out a further sequel in the Harry Potter saga.

In the ITV1 documentary JK Rowling…A Year in the Life, transmitting Sunday 30th December at 7pm, Jo reveals how she felt compelled to plan the futures of all the surviving characters, and draws out the Weasley/Potter family tree.

"I can't help it," says Jo. "You know what it was like, it was like running a race, and you get to the finishing line and you're running too fast to stop, so I do know what happened afterwards and I couldn't stop my imagination doing that.

"So I know this sounds an awful lot of detail to go into for your own satisfaction and not because you're planning to write more books, but that's just how it was I couldn't stop, I had to know – I had to know what happened next."

Jo was filmed exclusively by James Runcie for the documentary. As a fellow author, James emphasises that writers always have to know more detail than is actually used when writing a book. Jo responds: "Yes and I carried that on into another generation."

James asks if this whole new generation of characters means more Hogwarts books could be written, but Jo rules out a further sequel.

"So all of that could be another book?" said James.

Hesitantly Jo replied: "Yeah,…don't, don't, don't, it can't be. I think no, it's time to stop, it's time to stop now.

"It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that, because I would like my version to be the official version still, even though I've not written it in a book, because it's my world."

Jo drew out the family tree exclusively for the documentary and explained what happened to the young friends, so fans can learn their fate.

She runs through the Weasley children one by one and explains where she sees them in life now, and also touches on the future of Luna Lovegood.

The documentary also follows Jo on a private jet with her husband Neil as they travel to the US for the eagerly anticipated final book tour.

She speaks in depth about what influenced her writing, notably the death of her mother and how this seeped into every aspect of the books, and why she felt Harry had to triumph in the end.

the new family tree is behind the door on Jo's site

Posted by erisedxxdesire Dec 29th 2007

Neville married Hannah Abbott, so Luna was out of the question. ;D But yeah, these are great. But..wasn't Fred (*tear*) the one who had a big crush on Angelina? Like, didn't he ask her to the ball? IDK I just always thought Fred was funnier....sorry George. That's why JK killed him, it'd have a bigger effect on the story. darn...

amazing! everything is so perfect! :)

Posted by HarryPotterFreakers Dec 29th 2007

The family tree is awesome! I printed it off right away and put it up in my room! I cant find ITV here. Is it just a UK thing, or can US people see it? I really want to. I understand that she feels she should stop, but I REALLY want a book about the kids. That would be sweet even if some people feel it is too much. At least there is the encyclopedia to look forward to. That is, if she eve does it. But then again, it could be exciting to have it come out when i was like 50, (i am 14 now) and have my kids be like "Dad, why are you so excited about this" and i'd be like, "Well, let me tell you. I was rather obsessed with HArry Potter" and then explain everything to him or her i guess.

Posted by gryffindor_2004 Dec 29th 2007

didn't Fred die in 1998? because the books start Harry in Hogwarts in 1991, thus ending the school year in 1992. Second year- 1992-1993, Third Year- 1993-1994, Fourth Year-1994-1995, Fifth Year- 1995-1996, Sixth Year-1996-1997, Seveth Year-1997-1998 (battle). I think Jo slipped up, but she created the world, she gets a pass, I'm just curious because that's what I read.

Posted by lilyevans412 Dec 29th 2007

Yay! I love the family tree. I was so happy during the epilogue when I realized that harry was officially part of the weasley family now. And now it was so cool to see the whole tree and to hear all the children's full names. Jo said in some interview about the end of the series that she felt okay because she knew where all her characters were now. I feel the same way.

Posted by diasphora Dec 29th 2007

How great! Much love for the name Lily Luna Potter. hehe. I also love the middle names she had Harry and Ginny choose for their three kids. They say a lot about what certain people meant to them (or at least to Harry. But since he saved the world, I'd let him pick the middle names, too, if I were Ginny)--Sirius, Severus, and Luna. I love that.

Posted by grndtheftxautumn Dec 29th 2007

i like how she isn't into leaving holes at the ends of the books [like, The turn of the screw]. Its alot more satisfactory knowing what happend to harry and ginny and luna and trhe weasleys than making it up in my imagination.

Posted by Hermione_Fan Dec 29th 2007

Rolf?! Did Luna wed the Aryian Nazi-boy from "the Sound of Music" or something? I like the name Lysander, though. Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" reference?

Posted by matsemann08 Dec 29th 2007

James Sirius. Lilly Luna. It's nice that he named him James Sirius. And George named his son Fred.

Posted by Roxy2005 Dec 29th 2007

Wow, Finally my name makes it into the Harry Potter story, :), as Goerge daughter, Roxanne ( Always, knew I was a Weasly, ;), wink, red hair and all. ) Kind of simblizes a new biginning actually as Roxanne means Dawn, Dawn of the new day, new generation, Hey I can make my own guesses as to why, Jo picked the name Roxanne. Last note I think J.K. Rowlings is the best writter of all times.

Posted by hermyown7777 Dec 29th 2007

Poor Scorpius Malfoy...take a look at that kids middle name. I'm also wondering what Rose and Hugo's full names are....hmmm

Posted by LaurenWeasley Dec 29th 2007

JAMES SIRIUS POTTER! :D :D :D :D :D :D -cries a lot now- OMG. that is.. PERFECT! i KNEW they should have put that in there. Also, George and Angelina. That's cute! :) Percy's kids names suite him .. I loved how he didn't marry Penelope, because it's like .. he change when he apologized to his mum so he changed all together. Lol.

Posted by redfreckles Dec 29th 2007

I'll Marry Charlie! I think it's lovely that she would figure it all out. I think she's right to stop it- it gives the Harry Potter Series respect. if there is anything I hate, it's sequels- when the first stood better on it's own.

Posted by randomchat Dec 29th 2007

The one on her site has Draco in it, while the scan that we see doesn't.

Posted by The_Fat_Lady Dec 29th 2007

BLESS THAT WONDERFUL WOMAN FOR INDULGING US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutley love EVERYTHING in that family tree! I am also just infatuated with Albus Severus. You didn't have to make any magical leaps of the imagination to figure out that he was Jo's favorite of Harry's children. Good stuff. Thank you Jo! You warmed all our hearts! Can't wait to see what's next! :) :) :)

Posted by Tlx Dec 29th 2007

Is there any way I can watch the documentary in the USA?

Posted by hpninjaskills Dec 29th 2007

Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!! *screams and whoops and jumps up & down in delight* How WONDERFUL! SPLENDID! I lovee love love loveeeeeeee the family tree. How sad when she said the George was never the same w/o his twin... and he married Angelina too! *sobs* Lily Luna - I love that! And James Sirius ... not a surprise :] Percy married! Wow. :] Gosh, I love this!

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Dec 29th 2007

Well I Already Figured That James Would Be James Sirius Potter But I Am So So So Happy About Lily Luna! It's So Sweeet! :D

Posted by rhj2816 Dec 29th 2007

what taiyourshoes and gryffindor_2004 said -- didn't fred die in 1998???? ]:

Posted by pankie001 Dec 29th 2007

For a moment, I thought Lily's middle name will be Ginevra because of her mum, but Luna? I love Jo but Lily Luna? What the...it's not even a proper name. And what's Luna got to do with their relationship? Just to insert the name Luna in them? I love James' name, I knew it, it will be Sirius! But Luna? can we make sure first if it's really Luna. It's completely illogical naming their only daughter Luna. Maybe I can accept if it's anything to do with Hermione because in my opinion they are both closer to her than with the weird girl.

Posted by meant2be_a_marauder Dec 29th 2007

Scorpius Hyperion? Uhh..ok. And Percy named his daughter Molly! Aww..how sweet. After all Molly was the only one ready to accept him back into the family without any hesitation. And I'm pretty sure JKR was gonna say Audrey's sir name but they cut it out. Probably for the TV show.

Posted by potterfreak0515 Dec 29th 2007

Thank god James' middle name is Sirius! I was so pissed that no one was named after him. But did you notice her dates are screwed up?? 1997? No! It's 1998! She said the same thing with Dumbledore - that he died in 1996. But she was wrong and she should have died in 1997. *cry* Why can't Jo learn to do math?

Posted by laine_black Dec 29th 2007

Yes! I nearly jumped for joy as a result of "James Sirius"

Posted by Lunai Dec 29th 2007

Lorcan and Lysander? OMG! I love Luna more by the minute! Lily Luna is also a strange name, but I think it's sweet that Harry and Ginny honored Luna in that way. =] And is Audrey a character we know of? It rings a bell, but I honestly can't remember. *hangs head in shame* Wait... wasn't she head girl or something? I swear I've heard it... it was minor... agh this is torture! I also liked that Bill and Fleur named their kids with French names! =D

Posted by dancing_hippogriff Dec 29th 2007

talyourshoes, I'm pretty sure you're right. Fred died 1998, not 1997.

Posted by mighty Dec 29th 2007

Hope someone posts this documentary (or at least parts of it) on youtube for the rest of us. I've got 2 questions: why weren't any of the teachers at Hogwarts married (or were they?), and who were Harry's grandparents?

Posted by ver Dec 29th 2007

I found it very annoying how when Jo mentioned that Charlie never married or had children, the interviewer was like "IS HE GAY?" Gosh, just because he didn't marry doesn't mean he likes men. And chances are, if he were gay, he'd have settled down with a man.

Posted by The_Elder_Wand Dec 29th 2007

Oh, I looove that George called his son Fred!! That is so sweet!! I couldn't see the whole page, what was Lily's second name?=P

Posted by Ticci Dec 29th 2007

Does anyone know what channel the documentary will be on in the USA?

Posted by The_Elder_Wand Dec 29th 2007

By the way, you're right! Fred died in May 1998... I really hope someone will post this documentary on youtube, I live in Norway, so I have no chance to watch the documentary... :-(

Posted by dancing_hippogriff Dec 29th 2007

Anyone else think Lily Nymphadora Potter might have been more appropriate? There's a Ted Remus Lupin, but no one's named after Tonks. And personally, I think Lily Nymphadora sounds better than Lily Luna. (Not saying that I don't like Lily Luna, because I certainly do, but Tonks was one of my favorite characters...)

Posted by meant2be_a_marauder Dec 29th 2007

Bill and Fleur's second child Dominique : girl or guy? I personally thought Dominique was a boy but wiki says that it's a girl's name. And is it Asterias or Astorias Malfoy? It looks like Asterias on jk's site but in a time article it's Astorias.

Posted by dancing_hippogriff Dec 29th 2007

I decided for myself that James' middle name was Sirius, just to make myself happy, so when I heard Jo say it, I literally punched the air. I also thought Dominique is a guy, but... I don't know... And I think it's Asteria. And I love that we know Victoire's birthday: May 2, 1999.

Posted by iheartmugglecast Dec 29th 2007

What's with the time glass thing at the Room of Requirement?! I don't get it...

Posted by adriandoher Dec 29th 2007

wait, is fred married to angelina?

Posted by hpwiz812 Dec 29th 2007

they NEED to air this in the US....they HAVE to...somebody from the UK needs to record and put in youtube or something b/c i NEED to see this thing in its entireity!!!!!

Posted by voldysgonemoldy Dec 29th 2007

I wish they would show this in the US! =[ All I have to say about the names is: Where the heck was Ginny when Harry named Albus Severus? =P Poor kid will be made fun of with a name like that..

Posted by Quidditch_Queen Dec 29th 2007

Lilly Luna... I love it! And who didn't already know that it was James Sirius? That one was a bit obvious. So Charlie never married? Seems a bit sad. Luna's kid's names are very interesting.

Posted by rooon Dec 29th 2007

rocks my socks!

Posted by Shrinking_violet Dec 29th 2007

I feel terribly sorry for poor Scorpius. Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy..Eeks! Dominiqu e is a unisex name, but I chose to assume it's a girl. Lily Luna....Why Luna?..With due respect to Luna, I have to say Hermione has helped Harry more..He'd have been dead had it not been for her..Lily Hermione or Lily (Nympha)dora seemed better.... And I don't think we know Audrey, might be someone who worked with PErcy at the Ministry.

Posted by HappyHippogryff Dec 29th 2007

Eeeek I've just Sky-plussed this and it's on at 5 p.m UK time not 7 pm. Yet on the ITV website it's 7pm. HOWEVER, I live in Scotland and there's *bleeping* football on at 7 so I wonder if Scotland are getting it earlier grrrrrrr. I'll need to email someone and have them check out the official time

Posted by harry_potterdude Dec 29th 2007

Well, thats just great for Luna, if anyone should have twins, she should, almost everything I wanted for her happned, I WANTED HER TO DISCOVER THE CRUMPLE HORNED SNORKACK! Oh well, but am I the only one who thinks the Angelina and George thing, is well, wierd? I mean, if my twin brother died, I wouldn't go for his girlfriend. And Lily Luna! Aw, Luna, ILY!! If she did not get any recongnition in the Potter family, I'd be upset

Posted by Travis Dec 29th 2007

Really cool. It's like all the characters are real people to Jo with how much she knows about them and thinks about their emotions. I think though that Fred actually died in 1998, but whatever. Everything about those relationships is so interesting.

Posted by Hermy_Own6 Dec 29th 2007

Anyone know if they'll be broadcasting this in Canada? I really want to see it.

Posted by harry_potterdude Dec 29th 2007

Right, you listen to me Shrinking_violet, Luna Lovegood may have done less than Hermione, but she was still braver, more loyal, and trusting than anyone in the series, Lily Luna Potter should be proud to bear that Middle name. And besides Hermiones already Godmother, thats enough.

Posted by rooon Dec 29th 2007

please..someone- do you need cable? I really want to know! Thanks loads! : )

Posted by sweasley Dec 29th 2007

To everyone complaining about Luna being Lily's middle name, come on! Ginny was Luna's best friend and we're shown that they're very close. By the time they were having Lily, Luna and Ginny could have been the best of best friends. Harry and she were friendly as well and if she and Ginny kept getting closer, that mean she and Harry probably did too. It makes sense. I love it. Ron and Hermione were all ready the god parents and their uncle and aunt. You wouldn't need to name the kids after them on top of all that (plus, you couldn't just name the kids after one of them and let's face it, Harry's lost enough people in his life that take precedence over them).

Posted by sweetlilthing Dec 29th 2007

hey guys, whos audrey!????

Posted by Shrinking_violet Dec 29th 2007

Geez, keep you hair on people..Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and no one deserves to be slagged off.... Besides, Jo said Ron and Hermione were James' godparents...Dunno if it's just me, but I reckon Luna and Rolf or whoever she married might be Lily's.
