Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts?
Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts? UPDATE: Empire Online is now quoting WB as saying "no decision has been made," in part because no script exists yet. Steve Kloves cannot begin work on the Deathly Hallows script because of the US writer's strike. We'll let you know more once we hear it!

Several visitors have sent in this article from the Daily Mail, which claims crews working on Half-Blood Prince have been told the final film will be split:

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

What's more, the Daily Mail claims that big name directors such as Steven Spielberg are being considered to direct Deathly Hallows. We'll look into this rumor and let you know what Warner Brothers has to say!

Excellent news if its true! They need to do this book justice.

Posted by ickle_diddykins Jan 13th 2008

Umm, Wow! Yes!

Posted by iLeo Jan 13th 2008

Hmm I don't know how I feel about this. Deathly Hallows, IMO, can be made in to a very good filmw ithout needing to make it too rushed. Alot from the book can get cut out because of cuts already made in the movies series because alot of the stuff in DH correspnds to things that aren't in the films and only amtter in the books. They can just compress alot of the first act nicely, cut about 60% of the camping. So if Steve Kloves just steps it up and takes his time, there won't be a need for two films. Now about Steven Speilberg. Hmm. It would be very interesting if he got the job. He is a very very talented director so I'd really like to see what he does with Deathly Hallows but I really really want to see Alfonso do Deathly Hallows. He was just soo brilliant with Prisoner of Azkaban.

Posted by Misa013 Jan 13th 2008

3rd? Wow 2 halves could be great! And Spielberg? Interesting...

Posted by TommyDons Jan 13th 2008

Anything that means more on screen time for Emma is alright by me!!

Posted by skadiblue Jan 13th 2008

I think two movies would be a good thing. But I'm not sure of this is going to be a real thing, it sounds like a false rumor.

Posted by chiz08 Jan 13th 2008

having two films for the last book has some advantages and disadvantages. it would be very cool if there would be two films coz there's so much stuff to put it but how are they going to cut it in half? What's gonna be the plot for the first part? How is it gonna end on the first? i'm not sure how they're going to do that. but if they pull it off very nicely, it would be very brilliant.

Posted by tiassa Jan 13th 2008

Sounds like an excellent plan and unfoutunatly a fake one. No way are they going to do something right for a change.

Posted by hplvr92 Jan 13th 2008

I doubt it's real, but I'm not so sure how I feel about it. We'd have to wait 6 months to a year to see the entire thing... Plus Spielberg is an amazing director, but I don't know if I'd like him to close the series. If he'd been with it in the beginning then maybe, but I'm not so sure on how he'd do. I still wish they'd just do a big long movie but that'll never happen. The pros of having 2 halves would be getting more canon into the movies and maybe a bit more development, but the con is having to wait to see the last of it. I'm really undecided about this, but whatever they choose to do I'm up for it!

Posted by purplechoco Jan 13th 2008

whoohoo number 10!!!!!!!!1 and that is dumb to split it in two, just take out all the camping scenes, they are boring anyways

Posted by dobby_rocks Jan 13th 2008

This will probably just turn out to be a rumor. The Daily Mail that

Posted by purplechoco Jan 13th 2008

i hope so, i would like chris columbus to direct the seventh movie since he did such a good job with the first two

Posted by dobby_rocks Jan 13th 2008

Posted by mel1128 Jan 13th 2008

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this a rumor for Goblet of Fire also? I don't think that they'll do two movies. I wouldn't mind if they did, but I still think it's just that, a rumor. We'll see.

Posted by buddika Jan 13th 2008

hmmm. . . in my opinion, OOTP movie was a little choppy (too fast without transitional scenes) and some info was left out. (OOTP is my fav film so don't think that I hate it) If Deathly Hallows was split into two movies that would be awesome! More Harry Potter! BUAHAHAHA. But I think it would be better if they just made it 3 hours long. I love Steven Spielburg. i think he would be a great director of the 7th harry potter film.

Posted by Atsuko_Chan Jan 13th 2008

They said the same thing for Order of the Phoenix....and I wouldn't wholeheartedly trust a tabloid....

Posted by 13hplover13 Jan 13th 2008

I'll be really pleased if this does happen-the longer the better in my opinion BUT the Daily mail is a piece of garbage so I wouldn't necessarily trust it in any way

Posted by unclebob Jan 13th 2008

Two movies would be an interesting idea, as they could actually have more of the backstories and side plots shown and explained. Even cutting down the camping scenes, the movie would have to be over 3 hours to do it proper justice. Spielberg might be an interesting choice, although I feel it would only be proper to allow Columbus close out the series that he so brilliantly brought to the screen. I shudder to think what Alphonso would do to DH after seeing how he ruined POA... nor would I like to see it turned into some kind of horror movie as others have suggested.

Posted by typicalgurl1 Jan 13th 2008

It'll be good if it were in 2 halves. Maybe then it could be more like the book, instead of just summarizing everything.... Wow, spielberg! I wonder how it will be like! Hope they include every bit of the final battle!

Posted by Sharkey Jan 13th 2008

YES. They should have the first half be the beginning, until the trio head to Hogwarts for the last Horcrux And then from there til the epilogue.... They could pull a matrix and release it 6 months after, or have them released like the beginning of June and then beginning of July? I also think that Peter Jackson would be THE best choice to direct...just think of the final battle w/ Jackson at the helm...

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jan 13th 2008

No... No... NO. As if they can do this. I dunno though... Spielberg as Director? It would be interesting... but it just doesn't feel right. And also, the fact of 2 parts for DH! That would be kinda cool. But I'd prefer DH to be 1 movie for some reason. I don't know why though. Maybe partly because all the other Harry Pottter movies are '1' movie, not split into '2.' Anyway, I really like Steven Spielberg, but as the Director of the last thing us fans can EVER look forward to with Harry Potter... I just don't see it. Maybe it would be good, maybe it would be the most action packed Harry Potter film yet... all in all, I really do hope that WB make the right decision.

Posted by sammygirlpower Jan 13th 2008

I think it will work alright even though this will probably turn out to be a rumour. I can think of a place where the story can be split. Maybe after the Trio go to see Lovegood, learn about the deathly hallows and make the narrow escape. then Harry can show the reasoning behind the deathly hallows, and hermione and Ron can say something cheesy like 'we'll always be there for you' and they could walk off into the sunset. The second hlf could ber the escape from Malfoy manor, then gringotts, and finally the hogwarts battle. i think it would be cool.

Posted by iheartmugglecast Jan 13th 2008

I'm sorry, but no. Please, please no. Remember they were going to do this with Goblet of Fire? It would not work out well. Maybe as a movie series, but in my eyes I think they should make it seven, as they books have been. Please let this just be a rumour!

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jan 13th 2008

sammygirlpower that would be an excellent split! It would be cool, but I'm still not sure. And TommyDons: Please don't hit on Emma. **shakes head in disbelief**

Posted by gamerbb2 Jan 13th 2008

I think this is a good idea, this will make sure that Deathly hallows is perfect...hopefully. I can really see what Spielburg would do with this, but he is a good director so you never know. I agree with Sharkey, if they do split it, they should release very close to the same time. This way you won't lose to much of the overall story. But what are they going to name them if they do split? They can't just call it Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1 and 2.

I think its both good and bad, and making two movies sounds 'good', more Potter for potterish fans! Umm..that would be also good becasue tehy can fit everything in, and all the climax scenes would be great and 'emotional' *cries*, umm..the bad thing is that, well, would people who doesnt read the book understand it if its split into 'two'?, I mean..if they are or..planning to do two parts, they should do for the second part, at the beginning, a little flashback of the first part for those less than 'A Potter Fan!'. Umm..I really dont mind if they make it one whole movie, if they make it less thatn 3 hrs, I will definitely, thats not enough time, I really dont care if I have to sit in the cinema and watch the movie run for more than 3+ hrs, as long as it stays faithful to the book. The last book is definitely the most important, all the other movies are just 'building up' to this book, I would love if the book is made extremely 'dark', it just makes it more exciting and would attractive my run-away attention. I reckon this 'news' might be rumoured, less than that, didnt they already announce the 7th film director already? or are they planning a multi-directed film? (that actually be AWESOME). Steven Spielberg, is a fantastic director, hope that he stays faithful to the book, cause I would be *poking* him forever..just joking, lmao..I just hope he does! Peter Jackson is also a great director, why dont they choose him? I mean..Spielberg is also a great director too, but I wish Jackson would do it, I mean, look at LotR, its fantastic and very 'faithful'! Hmm..I hope that the movie will be good (Deathly Hallows) if this article or news is true!

They wont split it in 2, they'll just cut a few unimportant things, Like Voldy will only hav 3 Horcruxes; Diary, ring, harry, and DD will still be alive to "kill" harry. lol =]

Posted by Quiscalus Jan 13th 2008

It's highly probable that this is only a rumor, so I'm going to wait until it's confirmed or denied to give my thoughts on it.

Posted by melissa_hp_freak Jan 13th 2008

Oops *just realised that self has posed twice*..gah..I feel extremely bad =(

Posted by magiclover Jan 13th 2008

no way! please let it be a rumor(sorry people) I think two movies isn't the right thing to do I don't mind if DH turns out to be a long movie but I just don't think that making the HP in to 8 movies is a good idea I mean one of the reasons that J.K.R wrote 7 books is that 7 is the most powerful magic number if the movies aren't 7 then it will kind of lose that meaning. its just a bad idea...bad ,bad idea...

Posted by melissa_hp_freak Jan 13th 2008

I agree with 'magiclover'

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jan 13th 2008

magiclover... SO TRUE! I just dont like it. I always thought of the HP movies as always being 7, not 8. It just won't work for me... we want 7! WE WANT 7! WE WANTTT 7! If you want 7 HP movies, then type a comment saying: 'WE WANT 7!' See how many people do :) God, I'm becoming scary.

Posted by Erfa Jan 13th 2008

While two films definitely would make the series better justice than previous films have, it's not the best way. They should remove the book-things and keep the ones that work on screen. Face it - film is a different medium than a book, you can't tell the story exactly the same way, even if you do make it in two films. In other words, they shouldn't necessarily keep the most important part, more like the parts that work on screen. And at the same time tell more or less the same story. That's a very difficult balance, and I've honestly given up all hope that Warner Brothers will ever achieve the same balance that the first and second films have. I'm already waiting for a remake in 30 years or so...

Posted by magiclover Jan 13th 2008

happy that some people agree with me

Posted by melissa_hp_freak Jan 13th 2008

WE WANT 7! *dances*

Posted by Mal_Evolent Jan 13th 2008

This story is so obviously not true. Just a newspaper hack's way of filling a page. DH can easily be made as a single film - there is far less plot to squeeze in than in the previous books. The hundreds of pages spent camping will end up as a very short sequence on film (or else it would be boring). The whole Battle of Hogwarts will probably be done in 20 minutes, just as the Department of Mysteries scenes were in OOTP.

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jan 13th 2008

Oh My God! That's So Scary Because I Was Thinking Before I Went To Sleep Last Night How Cool That Would Be! My Reason Is That DH Is The Last Film And Everyone Will Be Sad But If There Are Two Parts Released About A Month (or more I'm just guessing) Apart Then There Is More To Look Forward To Isn't There? And Then More Things Will Be Left In!

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Jan 13th 2008

Mike7Snape: oh gawd lets hope not!!!!~~~And ot the directors: JUST MAKE IT A THREE AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE!!!!!

Posted by Dobbysgirl13 Jan 13th 2008

Hmmm.. I don't know what I think about this... I mean everyone has wondered how they are going to fit it all iin because almost EVERYTHIGN is important in DH. I mean ya it would give us probably a good chance at getting everythign in... but.... the first half would be like, i don't know f they do that they better release it the same day but.... I guess they would both be exciting Imean the first half would have the Godric's Hallow episode and such and the other would have THE battke... I don't know... Anyone else as undecided as I am?

Posted by Scooby Jan 13th 2008

I'd advise Mugglenet not to take anything The Daily Mail says, it's a pile of racist rubbish. 13hplover13, Glad to see there are other Mail haters too! Apart from this however, I'd like to see them split the move into two bits, but people might find it a bit tiring though. There's so much they can't leave out though. Speilberg? I doubt it. Wasn't he the one who wanted to have Harry played by an American and set it in a High School? No thanks. I want someone who will stick to the books. I'd love Buffy creater Joss Whedon to do it, or M Night Shamalan or Peter Jackson. Speilberg will insert a cheerleading team for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

Posted by xsophx Jan 13th 2008

oh no i dont want it to be in 2 halves. anyway if its from the daily mail it most likely is a pile of RUBBISH!

Posted by Scooby Jan 13th 2008

Let's all hate the Mail! hehe

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 13th 2008

THAT WOULD BE EXCELLENT!!!!! I really hope the movies go out with a bang, and this'll do it. d'you know how much they'll be able to fit into it? A LOT. awesome.

Posted by Crzy4horses01 Jan 13th 2008

That would be great! We wouldn't have to worry about them cutting out all of the good parts, me and my sister were already debating which parts were going to be cut out just last week! But would it be like you would have to swith theaters to see part 2? And where would they stop it to break are my questions.

Posted by xsophx Jan 13th 2008

lol they deserve it anyway

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 13th 2008

hope it happens though...or at least make the DVD like 6 hours long.

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 13th 2008

you know what they should do? They should have the character's lines be exactly as they are in the book. Every single word said. EVERY-SINGLE-WORD. that would take like 22 hours though. But I'd sit though a 22 hour HP movie. I mean come on, it's HARRY POTTER! THE MORE THE MERRIER. and who the heck thinks the camp seens are boring? To me, every word in the series is precious, no matter what it's about.

Posted by Willowrose Jan 13th 2008

I think it's a BAD idea to split it in 2. But I'm all for big name producers!! :)
