Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts?
Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts? UPDATE: Empire Online is now quoting WB as saying "no decision has been made," in part because no script exists yet. Steve Kloves cannot begin work on the Deathly Hallows script because of the US writer's strike. We'll let you know more once we hear it!

Several visitors have sent in this article from the Daily Mail, which claims crews working on Half-Blood Prince have been told the final film will be split:

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

What's more, the Daily Mail claims that big name directors such as Steven Spielberg are being considered to direct Deathly Hallows. We'll look into this rumor and let you know what Warner Brothers has to say!

1,050 muggles currently online---->well how many wizards are there? Well, I'm one. so------>At least 1 wizard currently online

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

What the hell do you mean take out the camping? That's really important. I think they should split it into 2.. 3... 4 parts maybe, real HP fans would much prefer this.

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

wooow what are the muggles doing - all coming online at once! 1,101 now! and an estimate of 100 wizards at a ratio of 1:10 wizards:mugles

I doubt this story will turn out to be authentic. The article has sloppy grammar and little evidence. Thus, I do not believe this will be anything but a rumor, made to spark some interest in this theory. Would it work? From a devoted fan's point of view, yes. From the ordinary moviegoer, no. If this film is split, book readers/devoted fans would love it (they get to see every tiny detail), but the moviegoers would be bored/overwhelmed by it. Also, there is no set stopping point for the movie (unlike LotR), so the moviegoers would be incredibly confused by what they see in Part 2 (they will not remember Part 1). What this would do is lose a lot of the audience on Part 2 (yes, it would make more money, but it would ruin the series), and basically state that Part 1 is not as important. As for Spielberg: no.

Posted by Willowrose Jan 13th 2008

oops. I mean big name directors. Or, whichever. Either way, not a good idea to split it in 2. They won't come out a month apart people. It'd be more like at least a year apart to give each "part" it's own time at theaters. PLUS that would mean we'd have to wait even longer for the R/Hr kiss!!! Don't wanna wait!

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

I am wondering how good the Battle of Hogwarts will be - I noticed that in films 1-4 all the climaxes, Harry/Voldemort were very well done, ut in film 5, the climax, which was a major fight, seemed to be mainly just a load of flashes of light - will things be the same in 6 and 7?

Posted by Mike7Snape Jan 13th 2008

Has anyone seen and read the movie and book Eragon? In Eragon, all of the traveling, which was about half the book, was done in less than a minute in the movie. It'll probably be similar in DH.

Posted by HP_and_me Jan 13th 2008

Eeeer..... No. Allthough I LOVE the book, I must admit that there are several parts in it where not much is happening, ang that really are pretty boring to read. For example the trio's stay at Grimauld place and their travelling around in forests. My point is that it is probably very possible and doable to put a lot of stuff from the book in the movie without having to make it in two parts.

Posted by PottyforPotter Jan 13th 2008

WE WANT 7!!! Oh yeah magiclover: I was JUST going to type what you said... but then i read your comment and realised that you had already said what i was going to say.. EXACTLY what i was going to say! So yeah, it would be really cool to have 2 films.. but it would REALLY lose the meaning. And is Voldemort really only going to have 3 Horcruxes? that would be HORRIBLE!!! Completely untrue to the story! Voldy split his soul 7 times, but was intending to only split in into 6; thus making 7 Horcruxes. Wouldn't it lose its meaning if they did that? Well, i suppose i shouldn't count too much on that. And i think it should END with Chris Columbus too... he did a great job with the 1st two movies... and are my favourites because they are the truest to the books; they preserve the sheer magic of the books. Whatever happens, i just hope Warner Brothers does the last book in the best series in the entire universe justice; they have a lot to live up to and would have a lot of fans to answer to if they don't. ~Long Live Harry Potter~ -Potty

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

I think a break between the two parts, if there are, will be more like 6 months. Yes... R/Hr... umm, I don't ship them, butI can't deny JK did it well... I am looking forward to the wedding, and also the general differentness of the book to the others. I'm wondering if the bits where harry reads about Dumbledore will be shown, or if it'll just be him reading... and will the epilogue be shown?

Posted by rggr9728 Jan 13th 2008

I think it is a BAD idea. Deathly Hallows is my favorite harry potter book, and the movie better be the best too! i think that they should just do a 3-4 hours movie, obviously true fans would watch that. as for directors, i think chris columbus should come back because i think movies 1 and 2 were the most like the books! :)

Posted by emsgdh Jan 13th 2008

Am I utterly alone in wishing that Chris Columbus would come back to direct the final film ?

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

Yes, Chris Columbus would do the best job, I watched movie 3 yesterday and you really notice the difference. Some of the parts just are not true to the book -you see this in 1 and 2 as well, but as the books are about magic, there just seems to be less magic in the later ones, more about stuff that could happen to muggles. ROCK ON BOOK 7! Epilogue of book 7: All was well, except for the fact that the movie of the seventh book turned out to be awful and none of the fans liked it.

Posted by liquid_silver Jan 13th 2008

The Daily Mail sucks.

Posted by emma_holloway Jan 13th 2008

No no no no no. Seven Books = Seven Films. Any other way would just be wrong. And I do not want Chris Columbus to do it either. The first too were too happy and jolly even the dark scenes were too... family orientated. Plus I hate the end of the second film, and I shall forever hold that against him. Why are they clapping Hagrid?!?!?! Spielberg would be an interesting choice, he is an amazing director.

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

I have to agree - second film, not good for the person who has not read HP, too many loose ends. Corny, too. Sme with film 3 though...

Posted by Timmay0217 Jan 13th 2008

I think they should split it in 7 movies like voldemort split his soul in 7

Posted by lidietta Jan 13th 2008

hmmm dunno what to say... personally, I'd love a harry potter tv series, once theire done with films...

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

I'd love theer to be some Hrry Potter magazines, but some for real; fans, not just people who have read the books once and quite liked them, orr just seen the films.

Posted by sillyme Jan 13th 2008

that would be so cool...we could have even more time before the series is over! and they would fill more info in...

Posted by PottyforPotter Jan 13th 2008

Yeah didn't really like the CoS ending... You're right. But it WAS the truest to the books. I particularly enjoyed film 1 the best. Seriously. I don't know about you guys... but i liked it. And i realised after film 3, whenever i went to the cinema to watch an HP movie, i would always be muttering to my best friend (who is also a fellow HP fan) which parts where wrong. e.g. Film 5, how could they possibly fly along the water, in plain sight, next to streets and Muggles and a BOAT. For Pete's sake, they didn't even Disilusion themelves!

Posted by konstantine Jan 13th 2008

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I would have no problem with a 4-6+ hour movie, split or not. This movie does need to be done justice, and while it would be acceptable to leave some of the camping out, I don't see how much else could be cut. If they don't split it, I would be fine with a 2-3 hour theater film, and a doubly long DVD version. That way, everyday moviegoers wouldn't be adverse to seeing it and devoted fans would finally have their dream movie. Everyone's happy :)

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

No, you're not alone. That rocks as an idea. :D is happy. My friends/family are nowhere near such big fans as me, it annoys the snot out of them when I keep rabbiting on... this was wrong, they missed out tht, etc.

Posted by konstantine Jan 13th 2008

Also, I hope Cuaron doesn't direct DH. I know that many people love him, but I personally hated what he did with PoA, and wouldn't be able to take him screwing up the final movie(s).

Posted by lidietta Jan 13th 2008

lol I don't like the films too much... they annoy me because they change so many things... and when I go to the theatre I keep complaining and everyone looks at me like wth!!! konstantine, I'm with you all the way...

Posted by Ruubski Jan 13th 2008

Abduct all major directors and force them to make a 4-hour movie! MAKE IT WORK!

Posted by Golden_Snitch101 Jan 13th 2008

No - round up all major HP fans from over the world and let THEM make the movie! Much truer to the book!

Posted by matsemann08 Jan 13th 2008

Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows 1 Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows 2 OR Harry Potter and the Search for the Horocruxes Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows OR Harry Potter and the Horocruxes Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows

Posted by ignotus11 Jan 13th 2008

Speilberg is a brilliant director, and lord knows afte the first 4 films, a high profile director could make a massive difference, but after the last film, I;m quite happy about Yates.....he seems a good director, and if the last two films are as dark and thrilling as the Order of the Phoenix, I'd be quity happy.

Posted by dannyrob15 Jan 13th 2008

STEVEN SPEILBERG!!!!!!!!! CUT IT INTO TWO HALVES!!!!!!!!! YES

Posted by Ginny Jan 13th 2008

I think the two movies sounds like a good idea only if they can make them both attractive and fluent :)... since the book is so long and mostly everything is important, its nice to know the series would end properly :)... i hate it when they cut all the major parts in the book!... (and lets not talk about the characters!).... i support anti-Daily Mail! (never heard of it before, but it sounds kind of exciting!... like anti-daily prophet when they published all those rita skeeter lies xD)

Posted by june_21_2003 Jan 13th 2008

EXCELLENT! This is exactly what this book deserves! Wouldn't I be awesome if the final battle took up most of the second half of DH? If super excited, I hope the rumor is true.

Posted by polkadots56 Jan 13th 2008

That would be so cool! It would give us one more thing to look forward too. 2 primeres.. 2 release dates... 2 DVD releases (maybe)... I think this would be fun. But I wish we got this from a reliable source...bah.

Posted by dannyrob15 Jan 13th 2008

WILL ANYONE EVER BE SATISFIED!!!!!!!!!!!???? HOLY CRAP PPL!!!!!!!!!! FIRST U SAY U WANT LESSS THINGS TO BE CUT OUT FROM THE BOOK ISNT THAT WAT THE TWO HALVES WILL DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??? ????? NOW UR SAYING U DONT WANT TWO HALVES!!!!!!!!!???? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. i dont understand it. im hungry

Posted by dancefool1 Jan 13th 2008

Omg!!!!!! That would be awesome! But I don't think it's real.

Posted by HP1990 Jan 13th 2008

OMG if this is tru that is so awesome. The HAVE to do this, theirs like not 1 part they can cut out. If this turns out 2 be true I will be the happiest person

Posted by dannyrob15 Jan 13th 2008

im bored. entertain me dancefool

Posted by whizgal Jan 13th 2008

hmm.....DH can be splited into 2. now i think of it i hope this news is not a rumor. Although about director .....please WB bring Alfonso back!!!

Posted by BatJeff Jan 13th 2008

I think that it is highly unlikely that DH will be split to two halves. However, that would be awesome, because then they could cover the whole book. What I think they shouldn't do, is release one half, and then the other half a few months later. If they're going to do this, I want to watch both halfs one after the other.

Posted by Merenwen_Lupin21 Jan 13th 2008

IF this turns out to be true, that would be so freakin awesome!! But IF they did it in two parts, they better not add little frivolous scenes and lines like "I love magic." And since they are going to have about 4 hours to complete it, they should use more lines straight from the book. THAT would be a miracle. And as long as Steven Spielburg has READ HP, i have no problem with him directing.

Posted by honeydukes0209 Jan 13th 2008

Hmm...idk what I think about this yet. For all we know, this could be nothing but a rumor, but Speilberg would be awesome for DH...

Posted by Rice12345 Jan 13th 2008

well even if the daily mail is garbage i think it would be a GREAT idea to split it in two.that way they don't leave out a lot of bits and pieces that make deathly hallows so exciting..those subtle moments that take you back to previous books.. or they should do a LOTR and make the movie LONG! that way it's faithful to the book. and steven spielberg..i really wish he'd do it.

Posted by AnnMarie Jan 13th 2008

I don't think it's a good idea. If they will do two parts of seven movie we would have 7 books and 8 films about Harry Potter... 5th books is much longer than 7th and they didn't do two parts ;)

Posted by Slytherin15 Jan 13th 2008

i think thats an excellent idea! the movie must be long if its gonna be split into two parts! ooooo im so excited!

Posted by Dobbysgirl13 Jan 13th 2008

well I do think the big directors would be cool!! But still undecided on 2 halves...

Posted by Fantasy Jan 13th 2008

I wouldn't listen to the Daily Mail, they've printed falsehoods in the past to stir up countless fandoms and only about 2% of them were true. And if Steven Spielberg was directing then I DEFINITELY wouldn't go see it. If you're going to have a battle scene you need Tim Burton. And I can see him looking into this project now that his wife is involved. Bottom line: don't listen to tabloid newspapers and wait for the actual company involved (ie. Warner Bros.) to release the information.

Posted by hermyown7777 Jan 13th 2008

I think Tim Burton would be AMAZING to direct this movie! All his movies have a sort of dark disturbed feel to them. Did anyone see Sweeney Todd? It was FANTASTIC!!!!

Posted by rob1007 Jan 13th 2008

hmm... i dont know what i think about this... itd be cool in a way but sort of a drag...

Posted by alastormoody Jan 13th 2008

i agree with Dobbysgirl13

Posted by snape_is_good Jan 13th 2008

why would they need to split it for a harry / voldemort battle!!?? there is no "big battle" between them in HBP...in fact, they don't even meet in the 6th book. i'm happy about a enormously long movie but PEOPLE!!!!!! STICK TO THE BOOK!!!!!!
