Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts?
Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts? UPDATE: Empire Online is now quoting WB as saying "no decision has been made," in part because no script exists yet. Steve Kloves cannot begin work on the Deathly Hallows script because of the US writer's strike. We'll let you know more once we hear it!

Several visitors have sent in this article from the Daily Mail, which claims crews working on Half-Blood Prince have been told the final film will be split:

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

What's more, the Daily Mail claims that big name directors such as Steven Spielberg are being considered to direct Deathly Hallows. We'll look into this rumor and let you know what Warner Brothers has to say!

yes, but they are talking about HPDH, not HBP

Posted by laine_black Jan 13th 2008

Splitting them could be a good idea. I don't see why no one is talking about Peter Jackson directing 7. He did a fantastic job on Lord of the Rings, which is a more complicated story line than HP

Posted by pygmypuff811 Jan 13th 2008

i like it. A LOT. and i agree w/ felixfelicis888 100%. wow, that's really really cool. steven spielberg all the way man.

Posted by Sahrious Jan 13th 2008

i'm to be honest a little frustrated. they didnt consider this a possibility for OOTP, when we all know that Is a major book. the last 3 just tie up the whole story. while HBP is shorter and could be made into 1. OOTP left out some major parts. such as: the cleaning of the house.. which leads to the locket, kreacher vs. harry tension... ect. if they split the DH, theyre Still going to have to makeup fake parts for the final film to tie to their other mistakes. how Will harry get the locket? will kreacher be back? (which for those who Havent read the books, doesnt matter too much b/c they have already forgotten about him in his short stint in OOTP) alot of what-if's, that hopefully they've gotten all figured out by now, since DH release.

Posted by starlight Jan 13th 2008

I really think that ion terms of money, it's good. But I'm sure everyone will agree. We can stand to watch 3 hours worth of Harry Potter. As long as it isn't all messed with. I guess we'll know the truth to this rumor soon though.

Posted by ashurlito Jan 13th 2008

LORD PLEASE MAKE THIS A RUMOR why cant they make it a 3 and a half hour movie??? LIKE HOLY shyt we are still gonna watch the WHOLE flipping movie why are u gonna split it so then we can wait LONGER! this seriously ticks me off!! LIKE then how are they gonna end it? oh lets see harry Hermione and Ron receive their gifts END! that soo flipping gaayy i really wanted 7 movies AND I WILL HOPEFULLY GET SEVEN MOVIES! its a bad bad baddd idea and if this is fake I HATE THE DAILY MAIL FOR MAKING ME MAD! and btw snape_is_good they are gonna do this for the 7th book not 6th

Posted by Fantasy Jan 13th 2008

Peter Jackson would be good for DH. LOTR are amazing movies and he certainly has the skill. Seeing as the first two HP movies were better constructed and presented I am putting the lack of talent in the most recent movies down to bad directing. If we got either Peter Jackson or Tim Burton to direct DH then there wouldn't be any need to split it because they have the vision to know what needs time spent on in the movie and what doesn't. Thanks, laine_black for reminding me of Peter Jackson.

Posted by urgtheunclean Jan 13th 2008

WOW!!! I dont know what people are complaining about!! Two halves, means something more to look forward to and more cannon in the films (which has been every fan's greatest complaint)!!!! And Speilberg would be amazing at it I guess... but if they really want to fit in all the cannon, they should bring Columbus back... he's VERY good at that! But I feel Yates wouldn't do such a bad job of it either... I mean ootp was great, lets see what he does with HBP. But two halves just makes me SCREAM WITH JOY!!

Posted by padfoot60 Jan 13th 2008

totallycool

Posted by AcidPops33 Jan 13th 2008

I actually really like that idea! They're doing it because they really want to do the last movie just right [which I am ALL FOR!], and it'll prolong the HP experience!!!!!!!!!! I give the thumbs up.

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

no not speilberg!! anyone but that jackass! bring back Alfonso Curan he was the best! either him or Tim Burton would be pretty cool coz the last film is so dark that Tim Burton would do it justice.

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

no not speilberg!! anyone but that jackass! bring back Alfonso Curan he was the best! either him or Tim Burton would be pretty cool coz the last film is so dark that Tim Burton would do it justice.

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Jan 13th 2008

this has its ups and downs....but at first i was the wth and then like oh i see how this could work.....hbp is coming..

Posted by HP1990 Jan 13th 2008

felixfelicis i agree with you completely, this movie has to be an exact to the book. theres nothing they can cut.

Posted by CFplayer19 Jan 13th 2008

weird...i was just speaking about this w/ my brother the other day...... i think it should be split b/c then they would leave sooo much stuff out and every1 would be complaining on how 'untrue it was 2 the book' and how they 'couldnt believe they cut that out'....but on the other hand, i dont want 2 have 2 wait 2 c the 2nd half of the movie a year later. but ill manage.... i guess we'll have 2 wait and c what they do.

Posted by june_21_2003 Jan 13th 2008

I think they should have Tim Burton direct Deathly Hallows, because I want to see blood and guts flying everywhere durin gthe battle, lol.

Posted by Kself482 Jan 13th 2008

Nononononononnono! That would just throw everything off! I'd rather have one three hour plus movie than two one-and-a-half hour movies! Com'on!

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

june_21_2003 I completely agree!! Tim burton or bring back Alfonso Curan. He's been the only director to actually portray the sinister dark mood of the Harry Potter world. Also, i'll be soo glad if they split DH into two movies because that means they won't leave anything out (which they can't because basically every little detail of DH is very important) and we'll have an extra movie to look forward to. It will mean we'll have an extra 18 months before Harry Potter ends forever. Am i right people?

Posted by Hogwartsgirl52 Jan 13th 2008

i dont like that idea. Can't they just make it a 3 hour movie or something?

Posted by june_21_2003 Jan 13th 2008

i agree kerrman2004, i want hp to last as long as possible. i've been reading these books and watching the movies since i was seven, and i can't bear to watch it all end.

Posted by GoodShipper Jan 13th 2008

I really hope this is true. More included means it'll be more accurate, and I'm all for that. I really don't care who directs, but Alfonso would be an interesting choice. The third movie had a really nice atmosphere that I'd like to see a bit of in DH. Every director would bring something entirely different to the movie, so it's hard to say that someone would be "best"

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

me neither June_21_2003 it'll be so sad when its all over... i've grown up with those character :( Although Hogwartsgirl52 I kind of agree with you too, i wouldn't mind a 3 hour film...well if they were true to the book it'd have to probably 3 and half hours. Once they don't leave anything out i'm happy. Everything that happened in DH was important to the story because they were on the run, they weren't just back in broing hogwarts in class figuring out mystery's, in DH they were actually fugitives (I thought it was cool that Harry had a price on his head and there were posters of him in the ministery of magic) It was exciting event after exciting event and if they leave anything out I will not be a happy bunny. Did you guys know that the twins aren't going to be in HBP, i'm sooo annoyed about that!!

Posted by june_21_2003 Jan 13th 2008

No Fred and George!? That sucks, I wanted to see their joke shop! I wanted to see Arnold the pygmy puff :-)

Posted by polyjuicelollypops Jan 13th 2008

this would be cool but it ruins the whole magic of 7 stuff

Posted by littlesweetpygmypuff Jan 13th 2008

I really don't know how to feel about this... I'd sit for a 22 hour movie too... and i feel there's no need to split it in two!... but, if they'll be completely loyal to the book... well it's worth it, then! i dont know... i don't wanna wait that much to see the great finale... =(

Posted by Tlx Jan 13th 2008

This is great, they are smart to make the movie as complete as possible by splitting it. Steven Speilberg would be an awesome director for DH.

Posted by snoopygonewilder Jan 13th 2008

Two parts, that would proably only work if they were released the same year. But I think it would ennoy people to be left hanging half way through the story, it would be like "Okay that's it, see you for the next half in five months..." They could probably fit it all in longish movie. I mean I've watched movies that are like almost three hours long, and are amazing. No need to cut it in half... its just a way to make more money, come and pay for a second ticket if you want the last half. I really doubt they'll do that anyhow. They will never cut the movie in two parts, or at least im hoping the don't..

Posted by Merenwen_Lupin21 Jan 13th 2008

Oooh I totally forgot about PJ!! I agree with whoever said he or Tim Burton would be good. Very interesting I think...

Posted by hpninjaskills Jan 13th 2008

I've been dreaming about this for a long time. :) And OH MY GOSH! If they split Deathly Hallows into two parts, I will hug everyone I see until it comes out ! It will be great! If they get pretty much every detail in, I will be happy. As long as it will fit our needs, then they can split it up into as many movies as they`d like. And also, a very good director. :) and I agree with felixfelicis888. [:

Posted by emma_fan_loz_pop Jan 13th 2008

i think that it should stay as one film. people want to see all the films because they have read the books. they want to see them as soon as possible! don't split them into.

Posted by Joots Jan 13th 2008

Oh goodness, Please!!! For once, let them do something RIGHT when choosing the film lengths. They should have done that for Goblet of Fire and OotP! It would be soooo good if they did that, at least we'd have enough time on each event in the book.

Posted by member_of_SPEW Jan 13th 2008

i dunno about the split-film idea, but PETER JACKSON FOR DH! WITHOUT A DOUBT!

Posted by tenner91 Jan 13th 2008

NOT SPEILBERG! He'll sugarcoat the entire thing and make it hollywood american just like every other one of his movies. NO he is not right for Potter.

Posted by snoopygonewilder Jan 13th 2008

I want to comment about the fact that a book translated to the last detail into film is a very very bad idea. Books are amazing, and I love to read, and I soooooo soooo much love the Harry Potter Books, they make my world. Books cannot be translated in full detail to screen. It would be the most boring thing you would every watch in your life, and you would literaly be sitting infront of a screen for like twenty hours. Watching retarded things, that worked amazingly on paper, but would not work on screen. Its nice to think that the fans out there, (and I am a fan) are saying they wouldn't mind sitting through twenty hours of Harry Potter, but if they actually had to do it, they would die. Its not the same thing, books are just different than movies, a novel cannot be translated to a script word by word.... If you ever heard the audio books, that probably how long the movies would be. My HBP audio book is like eighteen hours long I think... and OOTP is like 22 hours if im not mistaken... I think if that was really what was wanted, it would work more as a mini series on TV. Not a twenty hour long movie on the big screen... Okay my ranting is over, im sorry for such a long comment.... But im very much into screenwriting, and I hope I never make that mistake, try and make a book into a movie 100%. again TV MINI, perfect Idea....

The rumour may or may not become true, but whoever had the idea of splitting the film in two are so centered in their own greed that they haven't had time to read the book. They have been milking the cow for years and cannot come to terms with the idea that, unfortunately, this is the end (at least, for now...) and they want one more. There are only seven books, Warner people, get over it! Don't be fooled into thinking that they do it out of respect for the story or for Jo or for us. If they make two films it is only for money. How sad. They ought to know that each movie must have its own plot (introduction, action and climax). You can't break up Deathly Hallows right down the middle, because if you do, the first part on its own will make little sense. Jo wrote one Deathly Hallows, not two. What is wrong with one long film? I would happily sit through seven hours if I had to! As for Spielberg "directing" it, the mere notion is so ridiculous and so revolting that I don't know whether to laugh or vomit. Please, let's be serious! I have faith in Jo and hope she won't let any of this nonsense happen.

Posted by Harryfan12 Jan 13th 2008

Finally, the book is getting what it deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The film crew is waking up and realizing how much money they'll make off of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SO EXCITED IF THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by marisa91 Jan 13th 2008

hmmmm i seriously dont kno wat to think..... on the one hand, its kinda a marketing ploy to get twice the amount of $$ but also they'd be able to fit in SOOOOO much more this way.............. i guess we should just be happy that its kind of a win-win =]

Posted by hermioneg288 Jan 13th 2008

I'd love to have Deathly Hallows split into two halves..they always cut so much...and they never make a three hour movie...I would love it if they did, but they always chop it to 2 and a half hours and its really annoying. so I think it would be great if they two two and half hour movies and then they could really fit everything in! because if they make it just one, you know they wont make it over 3 hours..which is what it needs at least to do justice..so i would love it if this rumor were true!!! and they could release them a month apart or a couple months apart from each other. wow i hope this is true..the more Potter screen time the better right??

Posted by harry_potterdude Jan 13th 2008

NO!! TWO HALVES WOULD BE BAD!!! I NEED IT ALL AT ONCE!!!

Posted by magicalme7 Jan 13th 2008

I really don't think it would be needed really... Most of the time they were in the forest anyway. There would just be alot of the special effects needed which might take time.

Posted by lou4000 Jan 13th 2008

I think that maybe it would make more sense to release it as one movie with an intermission. Making two completely separate movies sounds like it could be a good idea, but money is probably behind it. Don't we want 7 Harry Potter movies, with an awesome grand finale, instead of 8 Harry Potter movies, which basically defeats the whole magic number 7 thing.

Posted by 62442 Jan 13th 2008

At first I was thinking "Please don't let them do this" THen I realized that of they did, there would be a chance that less scenes would be cut, and once they are finally out on DVD you could just play them back-to-back to get one long movie

Posted by ginnysgirl Jan 13th 2008

I think this is a good thing but they should have made the other movies longer than 2.5hrs if they were worried about not fitting stuff in. Now its the last movie and they want to make it longer? Where was this enthusiasm 8 yeaes ago? I think WB just want to make a lot of money by making people see 8 movies and not 7. I hope its not 2 movies they should just make it longer and stop woring about the little kids who shouldnt be in the movie theater in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by _mugglecast_ Jan 13th 2008

Honestly, I think that would make me really happy. I'd hate to wait for the second half, but overall, I think it would mean they wouldn't have to leave so much out. They can actually do the movie the way it needs to be done that way. I'd rather have a six hour seventh movie, but to hope for that would be unrealistic. But two three hour movies? Sounds great to me! Unfortunately, my major concern would be that first half would end up like PotC 2. You know, the annoying transition movie that wasn't nearly as good as the others? xD

Posted by Mayrelle012 Jan 13th 2008

I really hope this is true!!

Posted by 62442 Jan 13th 2008

SO they are just doing it because they want thte money, I don't care I just want as longer moviw. HOwever I will say NOT SPEILBERG!! PLease!! I agree with member_of_SPEW Perter JAckson for DH!!!

Posted by deatheater777 Jan 13th 2008

i think its great, spread out the joy. but it would be stupid if you have to pay for 2 tickets. i think they will try to make the final movie really for the fans and leave close to nothing out

Posted by Magick_is_Might Jan 13th 2008

I'm not sure if I like this idea either. While having DH split up would make a better movie I would hate to have a gap in the middle of the two. Although if they released them both together then I think it would be excellent. :] Also, as for having Spielburg direct DH...I don't think he should.I would rather have a more familar to the Potter series director. Or...what does anyone think for having Tim Burton direct it? He's already worked with characters from the movie in Sweeny Todd. Like Helen Boham Carter, [ Belletrix ] Alan Rickman, [ Severus Snape ] and also Timothy Spall [ Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail ]. Also, a lot of his movies are kind of dark.Which I think would be brillant! Considering that the world is over run with Dementors, Death Eaters are teaching classes, and Voldemort is basically running the Ministry.Obviousally it isn't a happy time and I think Burton could make the movie dark and end the series brillantly. :D
