Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts?
Deathly Hallows film to be split in two parts? UPDATE: Empire Online is now quoting WB as saying "no decision has been made," in part because no script exists yet. Steve Kloves cannot begin work on the Deathly Hallows script because of the US writer's strike. We'll let you know more once we hear it!

Several visitors have sent in this article from the Daily Mail, which claims crews working on Half-Blood Prince have been told the final film will be split:

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

What's more, the Daily Mail claims that big name directors such as Steven Spielberg are being considered to direct Deathly Hallows. We'll look into this rumor and let you know what Warner Brothers has to say!

I really hope not. I love the films and yeah i want DH to be done justice but split? No way, I want the movie in full I don't want to have to wait 6 months-a year to get the entire film. No way, I'll be really pissed. TT_TT I pray is a lie!!

Posted by Gotpotter269 Jan 13th 2008

PLEASE NO!!! that would be really stupid!!! the only bright side would be they could get more detailed....but i don't care that much about the details!!

Posted by kcolado11 Jan 13th 2008

I think that splitting it would be a fantabulous idea. However, i do not believe that Steven Spielberg would be directing just for the mere fact that he'll be busy doing one of the installments for the TINTIN movie...but maybe he'll find the time to do both. I hope it's not a rumor.

Posted by crazy20yzarc06 Jan 13th 2008

I this this is brilliant. I suggest that if they bother doing two films, they should make an extended version for all of the book fans. as for Spielberg, i'm not sure... AS LONG AS THE producer has read the 7ht book (preferably all of them) i don't really care who does it.

Posted by Mattrixed Jan 13th 2008

This isn't true. If anyone bothered to read the article, they would see that they caption the photo of Moody as being played by "Alan Gleeson" instead of Brendan Gleeson. If they can't even bother to name an actor correctly, what kind of source are they. Also, splitting the movies for artistic reasons makes NO sense. There are 7 books. So far, each movie corresponds to one book and one book only. Destroying that trend would be extremely UNartistic. Furthermore, anyone who's read DH will know that splitting the book into two movies would make for an incredibly dull first movie. A movie (even part one of a two part movie) needs to have a climax or else it will just feel like it was chopped in half at a certain point, which again is UNartistic.

Posted by _SectumsemprA_ Jan 13th 2008

I hope this is true but not the speilberg part. I think there are way better directors out there.

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

i do not want speilberg to direct this movie at all! Does anyone agree that they should get Alfonso back? he's sooo good! Or Tim Burton would be perfect! I either want a really really long movie with an intermission or 2 movies for Deathly Hallows but once they're true to the books i don't care. The Harry Potter fans like myself can look forward to an extra movie if they split it into two. wouldn't that be great? But they would have to end the first part at an appropriate part to give the first part a proper ending but that it still says "to be continued..." Its kind of like the matrix where they had to split the 2nd two movies into two and they released them in the same year.

wow..........

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 13th 2008

Some of you guys scare me by saying that it would be alright to cut out the camping scenes. I think you should go back and read those parts again, because they're sort of important...and definately not boring. jeez people, if you're unhappy with those scenes, check your pulse.

Posted by teddysgirl011 Jan 13th 2008

OMG! this would be a blessing and a curse. i mean who would want to wait for the entire dh movie in two parts!!! but i am sooooo happy they r concerned with making it a good movie!! especially the battle!!! but the spielberg thing makes me worry!!

Posted by Phrozen_Sky Jan 13th 2008

Remember, many other directors have their eyes set on this film as well.

Posted by gregoire Jan 13th 2008

Instead of cutting it into two movies, it would be better to do just a three hour movie, kind of like LOTR. Then the main plot and some details will be included, without making it really long or making it real short. I would prefer to have a 200 minute movie (3h 20m)

Posted by BeeHermione Jan 13th 2008

I'm really torn. I'm worried about having two movies potentially messing with the flow of the book, but I'm excited about the massive amount of more film they could get in as well. As for Steven Spielberg, I think that could be interesting. I think he could be good. It just depends on how he goes about it, I suppose. Wasn't there a rumor of Alfonso Cuaron coming back for the seventh film before this? I think he may have mentioned it himself. I liked him as a director, but also personally felt that he wasn't as true to the books as the other directors have been.

Posted by kooldude10694 Jan 13th 2008

If Chris Columbus doesn't direct Deathly Hallows and John Williams doesn't score Deathly Hallows, I'm gonna be mad!! And if it's one movie, they're probably gonna cut a crapload of stuff out, but then again, almsot everything is vital to the plot. 2 movies might be good to get everything in, but I don't know. i wouldn't mind sitting through a 3 to 3 1/2 hour Harry Potter movie, though.

Posted by HPfanatic71 Jan 13th 2008

Bah!! Like stated before me.. Just make the movie 3 hrs long to fit everything important in then I think it'd be more successful. I personally think Steven Spielberg would do an awesome job. I've always liked his movies.

Posted by coolmama Jan 13th 2008

Peter Jackson would be a good choice for director. Two DH movies? I agree that the camping scenes could be condensed--a lot! The patronus needs to be there, a few other scenes, but that could be done in 10 minutes. Maybe a long movie, then how about a mini-series with the whole story lines and accurate representation of the books?

Posted by chaibabachai Jan 13th 2008

I'd rather sit through one really long, extremely loyal to the book, movie. I don't get why they don't understand that we WILL see it and many many times..even if it's over 3 hours.

Posted by swissmuggle Jan 13th 2008

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOW I SO REALLY HOPE THIS RUMOR IS TRUE. otherwise i

Posted by Scooby Jan 13th 2008

I want JOSS WHEDON to direct Harry Potter! I think he'd be good cus DH has a lot of teenage angst in it, plus lots of romance and human interatction etc. He did a great job of balancing the fantasy with reality in Buffy and I think he'd be good. Plus he's an excellent writer and a Potter fan from what I know. Would love them to hire Peter Jackson to just direct the battle scene at the end though.

Posted by hpmonkeyaround92 Jan 13th 2008

that would be really cool, although I think thy should just make it really long, with a little intermission

Posted by hpintwense06 Jan 13th 2008

sweeeeeeet.

Posted by JadedLuna Jan 13th 2008

It's probably a rumor but I'm not opposed to a two-part ending. Either they make it pretty long for the last film or make a two-parter. At this point, it's the finale and I don't think anyone is going to "tire" of the final film. It will be the most anticipated and most packed theaters everywhere on the day of its release(s). I'm not so sure about Steven Spielberg. I prefer a director with experience of the Potter films. If he is considered, I would MAYBE think he would be included as a co-director or assisting in some way to the films. That's the only reason I would approve it. Other than that, I would not want him to soley direct the last film.

Posted by christianaeg Jan 13th 2008

i think that GoF cut into two movies would have worked better then cutting DH into two movies... DH is so connected to the other books in the series and itself that it doesn't really have a defining point where the 2nd half begins i think... it would be really terrible if they just stuck a break in somewhere and called them two movies..

Posted by rebel_hermionex7 Jan 13th 2008

If they're splitting Deathly Hallows into 2 parts to fit everything in, then yay! They obviously want to do the book justice. But if they're just splitting into 2 parts to put whatever they want in, then no, I wouldn't want it. I wonder if it's true-the rumor, I mean. Well, if it is, it looks like we'll have 3 movies to look foward to! Yay!

Posted by hpgirl_91 Jan 13th 2008

this is the last HP movie- they need to do it right! split it into 3 parts if they want, as long as it is done to the best possible ability. this is what all the books and movies have been leading up to. DO IT RIGHT FOR ONCE!!!

Posted by tbc07 Jan 13th 2008

I Think this idea sucks...they shouldn't split it in half...NO, no no no no...that's dumb. As for Spielberg...sure, why not...

Posted by kpo9876 Jan 13th 2008

That would be amazing, but it probably won't happen. And Steven Spielberg? No way. That would suck. He would probably completely botch it and turn it into a big thing, not just a true to the book thing. He would add so much to make it be better but screw it all up. Stick with David Yates and PLEASE do the 2 parter.

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 13th 2008

arg why are ppl suggesting Peter Jackson as a director for DH. I HATE HIM AND EVERYTHING ABOUT LORD OF THE RINGS!!! It has to be Alfonso Curan or Tim Burton...no one else!!

Posted by Mugglebornmuggle Jan 13th 2008

Somehow, I doubt this is true. Two movies would be kind of cool, but I seriously doubt that they're going to split it up. :[

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 13th 2008

Oh it's been decided. I'm directing, and I've chosen to film the battle of hogwarts at WalMart. I think it fits very well. And all the camping scenes are going to be filmed on the outdoor section. lol, I actually don't care what they do with the movie, just KEEP IT LOYAL TO THE BOOK AS BEST AS POSSIBLE.

Posted by 270481 Jan 13th 2008

wait does this mean two different dates for the movies or like they are gonna have a intermission between them

Posted by lilyevans412 Jan 13th 2008

YES!!!!! Finally! I love the movies but they have never done justice to the books and I was especially worried that the seventh movie just wouldn't work in two hours. I'd sit down and watch a movie for as long as it takes to include every brilliant detail that Jo has written. And I know I'm not the only one. Can't wait until it premieres!

Posted by CheerGeek Jan 13th 2008

OMG!!!!! Splitting the movie would be sooo cool! If this is true then the movie might be be so choppy and awesome things wont be cut out and be less awesome. I hope this isn't just a rumor though. As for Spielberg, I don't know about that.

Posted by aldrichsk Jan 13th 2008

Awesome!!! I'm soooooo pulling for Spielberg!!!

Posted by rooon Jan 13th 2008

That would be different................ ......

Posted by 270481 Jan 13th 2008

i dont know about speilberg b/c they were going to have him do the first one but he wanted a kid that wasnt from england would of been bad im not sure if he should really do it

Posted by Padfoot777 Jan 13th 2008

I hope they put EVERYTHING in the movie, and I am going to be SOOO angry if they leave out Dobby or Remus Tonks and little Teddy. But it sounds good though if they could make it one movie exactly like the book that would be better.

Posted by wilkels04 Jan 13th 2008

Finally. They should have done this a long time ago.

Posted by Nimbuschick Jan 13th 2008

Just make it 4 hours. JOSS WHEDON

Posted by mmesnape Jan 13th 2008

Just thinking here, where could they do the split if they did the book in two parts? I was thinking right when Harry, Hermione and Ron get caught in the forest. But that would end the first part on a tense moment, would that make good movie sense? Let the debate begin... PS: Peter Jackson would make the Battle of Hogwarts awesome. I can see him as the director, not Spielberg.

Posted by thecoolesthpfan Jan 13th 2008

It doesn't matter if they split it in two. If we want them to get everything done right, we're going to probably have to wait a while. I'm all for the magic # 7, but like they said in the article, there's so much to fit in the movie. Who knows, they might or they might not. I personally don't care because i will love it no matter what. I say that it's worth the wait. :)

Posted by Daaaawlish Jan 13th 2008

DONT SPLIT OUR DH! Join: hs.facebook.com/ group.php?gid=7567169261

Posted by OxfordGirl727 Jan 13th 2008

oh my gosh that would be wicked if they did that! whooooooo im so excited for it even though its not coming out for like another two years! =)

Posted by REMiiSAHMAZiNGx4 Jan 13th 2008

Yeah no theyre not spliting it just make like a 5 or 6 hour deathly hallows Im NOT waiting for 2 seperate days for it to be released acutally we'd most likeyly be wait yearts in between them and then dan rupert and emma are gonna look totally different from part one of deathly hallows to part two of it. Now wouldnt that look weird??

Posted by The_Obsesser Jan 13th 2008

...incredible deja vu. Who remembers years ago, when they were planning to split up GoF, and there was a huge petition against it? To be honest, seeing the way GoF turned out, I'd rather it had been split into two - it was horrible, and DH will be as well, if they try to squeeze it into two and a half hours - or less, like they've been doing lately.

Posted by weasleychick92 Jan 13th 2008

I don't think it's a very good idea to split the movie in two, but since it's only a rumor, I won't elaborate until an official decision is made.

Posted by EmilyBlack Jan 13th 2008

That would be pretty cool if they split it...but the first half wouldn't be very good=( It wouldn't have much of a climax, unless they changed the story, and changed the books too much already. Steven Spielberg would do a great job though!

Posted by hpwiz812 Jan 13th 2008

Uh....i rather see "Deathly Hallows" as ONE movie, not two. Why do they feel they have to make into two movies, huh??? I dont mind seating through a 3 hour HP, beleive me, but I know that's not gonna happen....my point is just leave it as ONE movie, and if it needs to be 3 hours long, then so be it.....btw, i also dont mind Spielberg directing....he feaking rocks, u know...

Posted by GWisthe1 Jan 13th 2008

NO! NO! NO! Bad Idea. Aweful Idea. What in the world are they gonna call the movie? Harry potter and the deathly hallows 1 and harry potter and the deathly hallows 2? they best not, that would be so stupidd. ughh. im with hpwiz812 ill sit in for a three hour movie thats fine with me. two movies just doesnt work. ive been happy with pretty much all the decisions that have been made surrounding books movies and other aspects of potter until now. this is just not a good idea
