Spiderwick premiere report and interviews
The Spiderwick Chronicles was released this weekend in theaters and in IMAX! If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, be sure to go! In December, MuggleNet held a search for the 'Ultimate Fantasy Fan' to find one person to represent MuggleNet at the premiere. Winner Amanda Peterson's report is now online! We were also lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with the authors! Freddie Highmore and director Mark Waters also took time to speak with us at the premiere. The Spiderwick Chronicles
A review by Amanda Peterson
When I found out that I had won 'The Search For The Ultimate Fantasy Fan' contest I was, to say the least, ecstatic. From the writing of my essay to the flight home, this has been an amazing journey for me.
Probably the biggest thing for me, besides seeing the movie and meeting Holly B. and Tony D., was the recognition of my work. I was amazed that my work, the seemingly ordinary essay of a 13-year-old, was responded to with so much positive feedback.
In the matter of The Spiderwick Chronicles, the books are highly enthralling and the film based off them is just as good, if not even more so. Chocked full with entertainment, this film is like a hearty stew. It has the right amount of adventure, fantasy, family sense, and even a dash of a bird-loving Hobgoblin.
From humor to suspense, the Grace children lead you through their world of mediocre happenings into their point-of-no-return when the opening of an ancient field guide throws their life into the chaos of the fey.
The Grace Family may have a happy ending, or they may end up an ogre's lunch. You'll have to see it for yourself. As for me, my trip may be over, but my adventures are just starting, if you don't mind me saying. Now is the chance for you to have an adventure, so grab a Seeing Stone and check out The Spiderwick Chronicles.

ooh yayy! i loved the interview on mugglecast with freddie highmore! thanks mugglenet good review!
That's cool! I might go Saturday with my friend depending on weather.
cool!!! #3?
THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!! 1ST? 2ND? 10TH????????
I dunno, from the trailers and what some people have told me about the movie, it seems a bit kiddish to me. Might be interesting though. =P
Huh. It came out allready. I fully intended to read the book before it came out. Guess that didn't happen.
Cool! I think I'll see it tomarrow. Looks like something worth checking out. And there's Freddie Highmore!
I have already seen, it's good.
wow that amanda girl is a really good writer!!!! i wanted to read the books before i see it.....so maybe i'll wait till it comes out on DVD
ummmmm whats up with the Spiderwick Chronicles? are we just AnyFantasyBookSeries.com now?
i agree with Emi_5 that amanda is an extraordinary writer for a thirteen year old! can't wait to see the movie!!
Sorry, but am I in Mugglenet or Spiderwicknet? Don't get this wrong, I like Spiderwick, I've already read a couple of books, but when I visit Mugglenet I expect to see Harry Potter related news, not Spiderwick ones. For that I visit Spiderwick websites. Please people, focus. The Harry Potter series IS NOT DEAD yet, so please do not search a substitute for it.
Wow, I thought what you said was great. I think it was a starting point for you in your life. One small essay is all it takes...or it could just be an idea scibbled down on a napkin in a coffee shop... your furture is before you may you have all the best of luck.
14?! Go me! Go Spiderwick! But Harry Potter totaly beats Spiderwick...awasome...
That's cool... I guess
I liked the movie, but what does it have to do with mugglenet?
i agree with BBC and Tom_F...
wow is the news on harry potter THAT slow that we have to draft news on every other fantasy book? i'm sorry all you guys at mugglenet but in like three years this site will be pretty much dead. you can't just bring in crap like this. if you like spiderwick so much then make another website with spiderwick. Besides most of us here are thirteen and older and the spiderwicks are for like elementary school kids.
Cool, I might go see it this weekend, actually.

I didn't know I came on Spiderwicknet by accident. Oops.
Oopsies. I thought this was a Harry Potter fansite.
Tanks littlesweetpygmypuff. I must say that Mugglenet is my homepage, but not for much long actually. I think Mugglenet is now in a campaign to find the new-best-fiction-book-aft er-harry-potter when there is still so much to say about the Harry Potter series. What's the point of this Spiderwick thing going on here? Sorry, but I never saw a single Spiderwick website making this kind of thing with Harry Potter. I'll go right now change my homepage to Leaky.
Whoa! It's Ben! Long time no post -cough- or Blickle -cough-. That's pretty neat. And for everyone freaking out about a Spiderwick post, chill! There are other things out there, but this is still a Harry Potter site. They have to pay bills somehow, and it's a neat opportunity for people to find other books like Harry Potter. No one is telling you to hop in the car and go see Spiderwick or go buy the books; it's merely an opportunity to find something else that you can be interested in. Ignore the post if you don't want to see it. I think it's a bit shallow to freak out because we've had like 7 posts about Spiderwick and years worth of Harry Potter and many more coming.
I agree with BBC more then with hplvr. I'm here to see what's happening with Harry Potter. I could easily go elsewhere if I want to be interested with something else. The Spiderwick Chronicles are already being very publicized so we can decide to go if we want to. When a fansite dedicated to Harry Potter starts talking about it, it just seems as though they are trying to find a replacement for Harry Potter, and even if it's not their attention, they sure aren't doing a good job of telling us it isn't. I wouldn't be surprised if in 2-3 years, this site became dedicated to Spiderwick Chronicles, if they were making another movie about the books.
I honestly don't mind that they're posting about the Spiderwick Chronicles. I mean I'm in high school and my friend thought that the movie looked good, so I refuse to say that it's a book for "elementary schoolers" as someone who posted before me put it. I mean.... I was in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL when I FIRST started reading Harry Potter! I think that MuggleNet just saw this as a chance to show HP fans another book that we could possibly check out next time we're in a library. And another thing... I mean on MuggleCast the hosts talk about other books/movies aside from HP, and we all still listen to it (well I guess I can't speak for everyone, but....). Okay, I guess my point is that it definately still is a HARRY POTTER website, but MuggleNet can post about another book if they feel it's worth read. I think this is my longest post haha. =]
Ooops, I meant INTENTION not ATTENTION! =x
I think a lot of people are afraid that Harry Potter will die and MuggleNet will follow the fad by trying to fill in the hole. I'm a little afraid of this too. But as long as it remains starkly clear that this is Harry Potter site, I'm all right. It does kind of seem like MuggleNet is morphing into a Spiderwick site and leaving Harry Potter in the dust. I definitely don't want to look back in a few years and remember nostalgically the times when people liked Harry Potter and when MuggleNet was a Harry Potter website. Mugglenet, will you promise that you'll remain faithful to Harry Potter? Sure, you're exposing us to other great books we might like. But don't pretend that's all that's happening. There wasn't this much focus on other books while Harry Potter was still alive. MuggleNet, be strong; don't give in; stand proudly as what could be one of the last remaining faithful Harry Potter sites on the web.
Congratulations! Is the film good? I didn't see it yet. I think the books are just below OK. I'd like to meet the authors, though. And I kinda agree with Samugglenet. I know MuggleNet won't turn into a Spiderwick site, but that'd be wrong. I personally don't really care for Spiderwick.
rrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg. it's kinda sickening. hearing all these complaints. i think the staffers are just trying to let us know of other movies seeing as we don't have any Harry Potter things to go to. just chill out. wow.

oops. sorry for the double post! :S and i meant 'seeing' the complaints. my bad. teehe.
I think the people that think this Spider Wick story/movie is Elementry, well that's their desison, but you all should know that not all fantasy stories have to be like Harry Potter. I mean people wouldn't read these fantasy stories if they were all alike. Also I don't think it should matter that they are saying things about a whole other story that dose not pertain to Harry Potter on Muggle net. But as far as the Spider Wick movie goes I thought it was good.
But no where near as good as harry potter of course. lol
This is so sad. Did any of you guys know Deathly Hallows came out on this very day in Argentina? To think that this post gets more attention than a Deathly Hallows release, no matter what part of the world it's in... it's just plain out insulting. I'm disappointed... It hurts to see mugglenet truly is run by muggles now... and that the magic feeling that the website used to give you is there no more.
OMG I THOUGHT WE FINALLY GOT PAST THE GOD DANG MUGGLENET POSTING SPIDERWICK CRAP. IM GIVING MUGGLENET ONE LAST CHANCE THEN IM DONE.
honestly what i see going on here is one or more of the staff must like spiderwick so theyre using their power over mugglenet to advertise it... i dont like it at all

I don't mind the Spiderwick Chronicles but I have to agree with what phoenixmandc and the other users are saying. Can't Mugglenet just make a separate Spiderwick page and link to mugglenet? It's just annoying because you come to mugglenet with hopes to find exciting news about Harry Potter and instead you see something about Spiderwick; it really puts you off... It's like going to an all vegetarian website and finding recipes for beef and chicken... And if mugglenet were really trying just to advertise other fantasy stories then why is it only Spiderwick we keep hearing about? There's plenty more out there; at least then it would be a fair excuse. Come on mugglenet, we don't have to tell you these things...
Yall shouldn't worry about them posting one or two spiderwicks up. Before long they will stop, its not like they do it insesently.
amanda, I didnt read the books but you have talent.
I saw the movie, and it was really good. They did a pretty good job of adapting the books. It's a great watch for anyone who loves Harry Potter!
LOL... I think that Harry Potter and Spiderwick are really different. It's not because we love HP that we'll enjoy Spiderwick movie, it's just because Spiderwick movie is a good movie and a good adaptation from the books. Just that. Well, if we love so much all fantasy movies, why we never saw news about The Lord of The Rings here in Mugglenet? It's a good movie too... oh, maybe because the movies are all done and Mugglenet cannot substitute HP with LOTR... Hence we have Spiderwick news!
I don't mind mugglenet posting about Spiderwick, but I think that mugglenet should start a section about harry potter related books...books that people who enjoyed harry potter would like, and the movie adaptations. it's ok for mugglenet to begin to branch out, so long as everything has its own spot on the web page.
@goldie09-thats a good idea such a good one in fact that they already have one.The Book Trolly and you are right it is good(the section). I agree with you on the other related point.
ALERT ALERT ALERT!!! I just had a totally weird thought about the Hallows, to be precise the Elder Wand. Grindelwald stole the want from Gregorovitch, and we know that Gregorowith shot a stunning spell AT Grindelwald in an effort to prevent him from stealing the wand but WHY wasn't Gregorovitch USING the Elder Wand at the time. WHY in the god's name would he keep his old wand when he was the Elder Wands's master. We know for sure was the master because Grindelwald became the master when he stole it. And you don't just leave the most powerful wand in the world lying in your workshop, especially not if you already told people that you had it (and he did) I am really bugged by this...
Spiderwick? Is that, like, a kids thing?
Zyzyx, I like the way you think. At least some fans are still faithful...
This is really getting out of hand. In eight years of running the site, the staffers decide to post a few articles about another fantasy film. Oh, Lord, they hate Harry Potter! They should re-do the site so that it incorporates their new interest! Come on. I saw Spiderwick, it is NOT a kid's movie, there are a lot of scary scenes in there! Like, Jared stabs someone, goblins chasing them, an ogre...not to mention deeper themes like divorce and family issues.....I don't know about you, but that didn't interest me when I was in elementary school. As for that remark that there was nothing about other books when HP was "alive"...think about it. Of course there wasn't! We were all waiting for the next HP book! Just because someone likes Spiderwick doesn't mean they automatically hate HP. We're all still "faithful" if we visit the site. Spiderwick was good, really good, an excellent adaptaion of the books. Harry Potter isn't going to be the most popular thing to read forever. We don't want to obsess over it for the rest of our lives, do we? The staffers are just giving us other things to read. I love Harry Potter, but does that mean I can't like other books? Because, by the sound of most of your posts, that's what you're saying about yourselves.
