HBP Mix: No Fiennes, McCrory Filming, Crew in Norway
HBP Mix: No Fiennes, McCrory Filming, Crew in Norway A few stories relating to the production of Half-Blood Prince have appeared online today.

- Ralph Fiennes, the actor who plays Lord Voldemort in the Potter films, has revealed in an interview with Ain't It Cool News that he won't be appearing in the sixth film. When asked about if he is signed for Deathly Hallows, he says "not yet."

- On ITV's This Morning, Damian Lewis (Helen McCrory's husband) revealed that Helen is filming her scenes as Narcissa Malfoy this week. Damian said she was "extremely excited" and is following blogs that are also excited.

- Lastly, a newspaper in Norway reports on some scenic filming being done in a small village called Bjorli. The crew is filming shots that will be used outside of the Hogwarts Express. With big thanks Karen, you can read a loose translation of the article at the link below.

well yeah, i guess Fiennes not being in HBP is ok, since most of the scenes with him are flashbacks of when he was younger....but for DH, he BETTER come back....that is all i will say

Posted by honeydukes0209 Mar 4th 2008

I was kinda shocked when I first read the title...but then I remembered...HBP really doesn't require Ralph Fiennes to portray Voldemort as his present [adult] self...most of his character is shown as his younger self...so yeah, this makes sense.

Posted by HPFAN4LIFE_01 Mar 4th 2008

I did the same thing. I totally freaked out when I read the heading! But after the shock you realize "hey there is no adult Voldemort in HBP", I just hope Ralph Fiennes returns for DH. I can't imagine another LV. They would never be able to play the part as well. It still is a while off, they've got time to sign him still. If they are smart....... lol. I with everyone who hopes the wedding is in DH. I wanna see Fleur and Bill get married!!

Posted by rooonil_wazlib Mar 4th 2008

I'm actually kind of *glad* that Ralph isn't in HBP. He's one of my favorite actors, and he's so amazing at portraying Voldemort that when I watch the films, I forget who I'm watching. I don't even think of him as Ralph Fiennes. I think that if he appeared in the movies looking (relatively) normal, it would kind of throw me through a loop. So, I'm glad they're using younger actors, even though Fiennes is AMAZING :) And yes, the wedding had better be in DH! Kingsley's patronus appearing in the middle of the dance floor is one of the most suspenseful parts in the book!

Posted by bumbledore Mar 4th 2008

Dear I_am_hermione. No, they don't speak English in Norway.

Posted by Emi_5 Mar 4th 2008

AHHHHHH!!!! NOOOOO!!!! okay now wait before i freak out.....with no ralph does that mean the whole scene with Voldemort asking for the DADA postion will be cut out???.......oh man i hope not because i think thats really important.....it shows the losers who dont read the books why theres a new teacher every year!!!!

Posted by rooonil_wazlib Mar 4th 2008

Wait a second, has it been confirmed that the Gaunts have been cut? Or are people just assuming?

Posted by Emi_5 Mar 4th 2008

ok now phoenixknight before you bite our heads off.....it did say that you could see his red eyes and his face starting to take the appearance of a snake.......am i not right?......but why cant ralph play that.....it called make up hun...................any way i thought id let you all know that MY BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW!!!!!

Posted by HPFREAK7 Mar 4th 2008

okay, on the positive side.. maybe, just maye they have a good reason for not signing him yet HOWEVER DH without voldemort? To me personally it makes no sense... I mean, its Harry v.s. voldemort at this point. he knows what he has to do... you cant not have him in the film. hes one of the characters that are def. needed

Posted by phoenixknight Mar 4th 2008

yeah Emi, i was just wondering if you guys actually read the books or not, lol. In that scene Voldemort was 20, FRESH outta Hogwarts, so he still looked young, i woulda LOVED it if they had Christian Coulson (from COS) play that part. but oh well, they already got someone who's near 20. And Ralph Fiennes is like what, in his 40s or 50s? that's too old for that, it wouldn't be as convincing. Oh, and they won't make his eyes red, they'll just keep they way they've always had. And by the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU Emi! ;) how old will you be turning anyway?

Posted by chaibabachai Mar 4th 2008

wow, pretty shocking when you first read it, but yeah it's pretty much all about the younger years Voldemort so it's all good. can't wait for the movie. I hope it's a lot less spark notes then OOTP was though.

Posted by chommy Mar 4th 2008

Wow, most of you haven't read HBP, have you? I don't think they should have acted as though this is big news (the internet, not Mugglenet) because I knew Ralph wouldn't be in it.

Posted by chommy Mar 4th 2008

@Emi: It's called 40-50 year olds don't play people 20-30 years younger.

Posted by Chikicha Mar 4th 2008

OF COURSE there's no adult Voldemort in HBP... there wasn't in the book! And if they're going to have the scene where Voldemort comes to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for the DADA job, (Which I think they might cut off, but I sure hope not!) I think it would make complete sense if they used a different actor anyways, since Voldemort hadn't become what he is now yet. It would be pretty horrible if a different actor played Voldy in DH, though! I dunno why he wouldn't sign to be in DH anyways, once the time comes.

Posted by xoxoshannonxoxo Mar 4th 2008

Well I sure hope that they put Voldemort in Deathly Hallows!!!! If they don't I am seriously going to FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!! You'd think they would have cast him for DH by NOW!!! I mean Dan and Rupert and Emma have been and Voldy is just as important as them!!

Posted by Lolaa Mar 4th 2008

phoenixknight!! i luv ur "OMG PPL, READ THE BOOK!!" response lol..xD ur rite there's no need to have the grown up Voldiepants that Fiennes portrays.. only the young one... and even if he's not appearing in HBP...that DOESN'T MEAN FIENNES IS NOT GONNA PLAY VOLDIE ANYMORE.. he's probably gonna come back in DH...anyhoo...anyone know who's playing the young voldemort parts? (i heard fiennes' 11 year old nephew is playing tom riddle kid..but i dont remember about the others)

Posted by terra Mar 4th 2008

Er, with all the Fiennes-Voldemort love around here I'll probably get jumped for saying this but...I didn't think he did an amazing job of portraying Ol' Voldy. Maybe I was just mad that his robe looked like a dress or that he didn't have red eyes or that his voice was... I dunno. Not scary. Yes, it would be bad to get a new actor for Voldemort in DH. But I want him to be scarier. *shrug*

Posted by phoenixknight Mar 4th 2008

Yeah terra , in GOF, they explained that they tried doing him with red eyes, but the actor wasn't able to portray enough emotion with that, therefore it wasn't going to scare anyone. when you think about it, Voldemort would look kinda corny with red eyes, not like the book though. And Voldemort's robes looks like a dress? HA! What doyou want him to wear pants? probably that sweet lookin' tuxedo he wore in the King's Cross scene in OOTP or sumthin'. And his voice sounds good to me, it's still kinda high-pitched, but not like in Sorcerer's Stone, i always thought that was a weak voice, since Voldemort wasn't that strong enough back then. Now that he is in human form and stronger than ever, there's no need for his voice to sound like he needs cough drops, lol.

Posted by phoenixknight Mar 4th 2008

I know Lolaa, some ppl are just soo thick-headed, and they call themselves hardcore HP fans who love the books more, lol.

Posted by Witch_Lady Mar 4th 2008

Well, I didn't really expect him to be in this movie, seeing as dear Voldiekinns doesn't really appear all that much in the book. His hot, younger self does, and I think that more than makes up for his reptilian face. ^^ phoenixknight- Okay, was there a need for three bold posts? Lay off the caps lock, sheesh. And, come on. 'Ppl'? It really doesn't take that long to spell out people. It takes me like...two seconds.

Posted by Kra Mar 5th 2008

Sorry to say but its clearly clear that Voldemolt has been cut from DH so they can focus more on the student relationships.

Posted by tomriddle Mar 5th 2008

Come on people! Ralph Fiennes is not in the 6th movie because his character isn't in the 6th book. Its rather simple. "Not yet" simply means not yet there are no hidden implications that he might not do it. Many of yoou are jumping way over board. Half-Blood Prince is only a few months underway. Why on earth would they work out the contracts yet for Deathly Hallows? And there has never once been any confirmation that the Gaunts aren't in it. They may not have been announced. And if they aren't in it, can you imagine the cinematic awkwardness of sitting in a room with four people (Marvolo, Merope, Morfin, and Ogden) you've never met on screen. Three of which are all crazy. It will be difficult to make pure-blood ranting interesting for not book-obsessed audiences. The ring could easily be fitted somewhere else.

Posted by Lolaa Mar 5th 2008

gotta love voldemort's nicknames: voldie, voldiepants, voldiekinns..lol..off topic i know..xD..Witch Lady you hit the spot "his hot, younger self does" hell yeah ralph fiennes is well..fine!!!.. but i always picture him even hotter in his younger version.. (kind of when harry saw sirius in snape's memory..and sirius was described as "very attractive" or sumthing like that) too bad they didn't really show him in the movie..

Posted by Hogwarts_Forever Mar 5th 2008

Remember guys, Lord Voldemort wasn't in HBP. Tom Riddle was. So Ralph Fiennes not being in the film dosent really mean anything.

Posted by Deppified Mar 5th 2008

I'm from Norway, so I wish I could go there :P Maybe I will.... To be honest, it's not that big of a deal that Ralph isn't signed yet. I mean, there's no real important scenes with him in the book.

Posted by terra Mar 5th 2008

Heh, well actually phoenixknight, I meant that his robes didn't really look like robes at all, i.e. they had no hood, and had a V-neck (I think), which made me think of a dress. But that was all in GoF, now that I look back at OotP, I see his fashion sense has much improved. That suit was pretty sweet, though, I agree. ^^ And I for one am looking forward to seeing Voldy's "hot, younger self" in HBP! ;)

Posted by Kamion Mar 5th 2008

No Lord Voldemort, just Tom Riddle..... no Lucius Malfoy, just Narcissa would it be worth watching? mmmmm , maybe........ Oh...Snape is in it... I'll go, everything with Snape in it is wirth watching, even when he would be snoring in a polkadotted pyama during the whole movie.

Posted by Kamion Mar 5th 2008

Voldy wasn't even there, it was just an indication that Voldy was starting to invade Harry's mind and Harry started imagening other passaengers at the station as Voldemort. A real Muggle hater as Voldemort would not be caught dead in a Muggle suit, no matter how Mugglish some of Warner's Wizard suites may be. ( thanks heaven for that: all wizards in black robes would be a boring sight)

Posted by terra Mar 5th 2008

Snape in polkadot jammies? I'd definately go see that!! xD

Posted by Shaun05 Mar 5th 2008

He also said he hadn't signed yet for DH, in fact his quote was 'not yet' so he should be in it.

Posted by Lynn Mar 5th 2008

Of course Fiennes wasn't going to be in the film! That would have been pathetic. They've filmed some scenes in Norway which is cool since I live there, lol :)

Posted by ledzep Mar 5th 2008

i_am_hermione: Nope, not other than as a class in school. Or if you are english i guess. Heh.. So bare with my 16 year-old soul, I speak norwegian :p But I love english, so it was good fun transelating.. Hope it's readable enough to make som sense! Karen.

Posted by Dobbysgirl13 Mar 5th 2008

WHAT????!!!! NO!!!!! HE HAS TO STAY IN!!! I'm happy they are excited but still!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO

Posted by steveg66 Mar 5th 2008

How can he not be in it?! He turns up at Hogwarts fully transformed when he seeks the DADA post.

Posted by Jonas Mar 5th 2008

To i_am_hermione, no, we don't speak English in Norway. We speak Norwegian in Norway. ;) We DO however learn English as a compulsory foreign language from first or third grade (not really sure anymore, for my part we started in third grade I seem to recall, although they have probably changed that to include simple English in first grade, like counting, introductions, yes-no questions etc.) Then we keep having to learn English up until first year of what would be the equivalent of High School, so we have compulsory English for nine or eleven years depending on the above. Naturally, people will differ as to their linguistic ear and how much work they put into their English when in school. Personally I'm on my fourth semester of English studies at a Norwegian University, because English was my favourite and thus best class when in school. I'm sure Karen could have done better had she really sat down and taken her time with it. The translation shows signs of hurry, and therefore mistranslation, containing what is correct NORWEGIAN grammar into the English translation. Andrew even said in the article it was a LOOSE translation. ;) You could still make sense of it I'm sure, so no need to be difficult about it. :)

Posted by performingmonkey Mar 5th 2008

They were never gonna do the DADA interview scene anyway. It's great for the book, not so much for the movie because it's pure character (which they like to shun in the movies for the sake of the action moving along). I doubt Snape overhearing the Prophecy at Trelawney's interview will be included either. They'll just invent a couple of lines to get out of showing this. Today in The Sun they reported that there's going to be some filming of the Millennium Bridge in London. I'm thinking that they're gonna show it being destroyed by DEs. Didn't they say that instead of doing The Other Minister chapter they were going to actually show the disasters that the Prime Minister and Fudge talk about?

Posted by BatJeff Mar 5th 2008

At first I was like: "OMG NO VOLDEMORT?!?!?!?!!? WTFOMFGWTFBBQ!!! But then I realized: Voldemort isn't even really IN the book HBP... I mean, there are younger versions of him... but no adult Voldemort. The book is mainly based around younger Voldemort, but more so than that, Snape. This movie should still be amazingly awesome. And to the people saying that they better keep Voldemort in the 7th movie... come on... that movie CANNOT BE DONE without Voldemort. lol It's physically impossible.

Posted by phoenixtears81 Mar 5th 2008

Let's not get all carried away about Fiennes not being cast in HBP, or being signed for DH. All those contracts take a long time to work out; they probably won't finish his contract until DH is almost ready to start filming. I was disappointed to hear that the scene with the Gaunts was cut. I was looking forward to seeing Morfin. I would much rather see the Gaunts than Hepzibah Smith any day. Oh well...

Posted by Ginny_Weasly_rocks_13 Mar 5th 2008

well, they are still showing voldermort cause they have to u know hes a big part in the movie but...my question is who will be playing voldermort then?

Posted by Kareen Mar 5th 2008

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by lunabell14 Mar 5th 2008

how can ralph fienes NOT be in it?! HE'S THE MAIN VILLIAN!!!!!! I don't see how it would work without him.

Posted by scrambledxeggs Mar 5th 2008

for anyone thinking voldemort looks like he does usually in the scene where he asks for a job...do you honestly think anyone at ALL would even think of giving him a job if he looked like that? especially in a school?

Posted by i_am_hermione Mar 5th 2008

I am so sorry, Karen, and all you Norwegians out there, I did not know there was such a language as Norwegian. You know, how we don't speak American in America, we speak English? I thought it was something like that. I didn't mean to offend you, or say that your English was bad. I wasn't paying enough attention at the beginning of the article to notice that it was a translation, not the original article. I could still tell what it meant. I didn't want to be rude. Looking back on my comment, it WAS really rude. Sorry!

oh phoenixknight....hahaha no i totally get where your coming from!! hahaha but im am 15!!!! and as of right now i have been 15 for almost exactly 11 hours!!! (in 3 minutes!!!)

Posted by phoenixknight Mar 5th 2008

oh ok Emi, well i hope u had a good b-day. anyway, yeah that was soo funny what u said scrambledxeggs, if Voldemort looked like he does now, then Dumbledore had a GOOD reason not too except him, Voldy must have been on crack or something to even think about getting a job looking like that, lol. No, Obviously he looked regular, not like he looks now. Ever since he resurrected himself again, he's looked mutated and grotesque, cuz i you go back to SS or PS, his nose his full, but in the 4th and 5th one, he has no nose! but a snake nose... that'll just tell u how much damage Voldemort did to his face, he's like the Magical Michael Jackson, lol! That's how MJ will look lik 10 years from now, once his nose is gone, lmao. Ok anyway, to any of u worrying about the pensive scene, WB is only gonna do about 3. When Tom Riddle was 11, When he asks about horcruxes at 16, and when he asks Dumbledore for a job at 20. WB announced that the Gaunts, and Hepzibah Smith have been cut from the film, so that's 3 they cut, making it 6 pensive scenes in TOTAL that was in the book, which should be reduced to only 3, in the movie. that's fine by me.

Ugh the Gaunts were cut from the film? Well, I guess I'm not really suprised, just disappointed. Darn WB...

Posted by ledzep Mar 6th 2008

Jonas: You are very correct. I transelated it over a period of 5-10 minutes or so I think, early in the morning, so it is very hasty. Had I known it would be put up here, surely I would have read through it before I sendt it in. Which I didn't. Heh :/

Posted by ThePotionsMastersMistress Mar 6th 2008

It actually took me reading the comments to remember that adult Voldermort wasn't IN HBP -- :S. I hope the younger Riddle makes more then an APPERANCE, are you kidding me!? I have been looking forward to seeing his past on screen since reading the book! I am happy Narcissa is in the movie though, about ruddy time!. The woman playing her, Helen McCoy looks great. I have high expectations though as Narcissa is one of my favorites, I hope this means Spinners end is in it! Well I can say I wasn't looking fwd to this movie all that much but that sure is changing! Peace!
