Jim Dale to present at Portus 2008
Jim Dale to present at Portus 2008 We are very happy to break the news that Jim Dale, narrator of the US Potter books, will be presenting at HPEF's Portus 2008 this July! Portus representative Aziza Aba Butain talks about how excited they are to be hosting him:

"We've just confirmed that Jim Dale, the amazing "reader" of all the HP audio books for the US , Broadway icon and the narrator of ABC's new hit series "Pushing Daisies", will be presenting at Portus in July. This will be Jim Dale's first HP conference. We're all very excited and honored to have a guest so involved with the series be apart of Portus's Programming. Mr. Dale is quite the dynamic, accomplished speaker and we can't wait for Portus to arrive.

Portus's monthly newsletter, The Portal, will be updating soon with the latest on Jim's programming. This will, undoubtedly, be a must-see conference for Harry Potter fans. We cannot wait to find out what Portus and Jim Dale have to offer!

If you're interested in attending Portus, you must register! Visit Portus2008.org for more information. Don't forget, MuggleCast will also be hosting a podcast at the conference as part of their Podcast Palooza. This is one conference that you definitely will not want to miss!

I want to be Jim Dale when I grow up. Wait, I am grown up. I just want to be Jim Dale. That must be the coolest job in the world.

aww thats my grandpa!

Posted by DeaflyHolla Mar 6th 2008

Jim Dale is the man! If Harry Potter ever goes annimated, I hope they keep him in mind. Now there is an idea to consider! A Harry Potter cartoon or cg series! Jim could be another Mel Blanc.

Posted by YodaDumbledore Mar 6th 2008

Jim is awesome.

Posted by lunalovegoodsnumberonefan Mar 6th 2008

Jim Dale does a marvelous job at narrating the Harry Potter books for audio. I own all of the Harry Potter audiobooks, along side the Harry Potter books and i listen to them before i go to bed, cause when i am not reading the Harry Potter books i can at least hear them before i go to bed. Harry Potter is the best book series ever, nothing can top HP.

Wow! I clicked on the link to the Portus site - what an AMAZING amt. of material! Sounds like a well-planned conference. They're still looking for volunteers, so if you can be in Dallas in July, you can attend free in exchange for some work. I'm thinking about it...

Posted by slugclubgirl77 Mar 6th 2008

coooool [=

Posted by KristiofSlytherin Mar 6th 2008

Why are Harry Potter conventions so outrageously expensive to get into?

Posted by flobberworm4 Mar 6th 2008

Um... I'm pretty sure that volunteers don't get to attend the conference for free. The chairs don't even get to attend for free. But as someone who has volunteered in the past, it's one of the coolest experiences ever. I made so many friends at Lumos and had such a good time that Prophecy was like a huge reunion for us. I totally think that if you can go to Portus (and you should cause it's gonna be totally awesome -OMGJIMDALE!) that you should volunteer. It's so much fun. I can't wait!!

Posted by Wizard4243 Mar 6th 2008

Sounds like a really fun time I should think about going. lol

Posted by xmugglecastismylifex Mar 6th 2008

Posted by mrsfredw Mar 6th 2008

omg...yay...i love jim dale!!!!! the little voice in my head has adopted his voice after years of listening to the harry potter recording :-D

Posted by KristiofSlytherin Mar 6th 2008

I really do want to go to one...I was going to go to the Chicago convention but a Spring Break vacation turned up instead. I just think it's a ridicoulous amount to ask...100-200 dollars? I have been to conventions before and they are normally 30-50. I just dont get why they are so expensive? :(

Posted by xoxoshannonxoxo Mar 6th 2008

Jim Dale is AMAZING at reading the Hp books!!! I wish I could go. =o(

Posted by chommy Mar 6th 2008

I'm not crazy about him like how all you guys seem to be but I guess he's all right.

Posted by trueligth Mar 6th 2008

I like the way this narrator reads the Harry series and the way he gives life to the charathers, so what ever he tries to do will be good for many people and even for himself.

@I've never heard him, so I can't give my opinion on him. However I'm pretty sure that his sexual oriention has nothing to do with his narrating ability, if you were kidding and if you were not that doesn't matter, you shouldn't have said that.

Is everybody taking crazy pills? I bought a Jim Dale HP audiobook and absolutely hated the way he read. Hated it. His pace and inflection are just way off. Also some of the voices he does for female characters are almost laughable. I literally cannot listen to him for more than a few minutes before I can't take it anymore. What is more, I don't know why people aren't giving Stephen Fry his due credit. He read this series about as well as it could be read. After I sold my Jim Dale audiobook on eBay I bought Philosopher's stone ready by Fry. Liked it so much I bought every audiobook ready by him. All are done extremely well. I still can't believe how people seem to love Jim Dales weezy renditions of these books. Just awful. On a scale of 1 to 10 for these two narrators, Fry would easily pull a 9/10 while Dale would be about a 3/10. Seriously, if you haven't hear Stephen Fry narrate this series, please do so before you claim Jim Dale the king of the world.

Posted by Playwright06 Mar 8th 2008

I happen to like both Fry and Dale very much. They have different styles, and that's what makes them unique. I wish I could go to Portus... *sigh*

Posted by GageEggleston Mar 8th 2008

He's gay? Umm, isn't that a little off-topic? And _j_ you're entitled to your opinion. But don't be mad. Fry and Dale are both very talented. Try to voice yourself less forcefully.

Posted by SportDickinson Mar 9th 2008

Oh, how I love his voice!

Posted by ssaint92 Mar 10th 2008

Jim Dale is awsome, his voice is the best choice for any type of book reading!

Posted by sirius_lee_G Mar 11th 2008

hey! ive heard this guys voice!!!!! :D lol anyways... TOP 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #### 45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by heronxobsessed74 Mar 12th 2008

Is Portus like Lumos? Well, that's really cool for everyone who's going who loves him! I've never really understood why he's so famous with HP fans or why they love him so much, but ... they do! So it's great.
