Queen's party coverage; JKR 'sad' to see HP end
Queen's party coverage; JKR 'sad' to see HP end The Queen's 80th birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace took place today and a report by CBBC Newsround states that JK Rowling was one of the first stars to arrive. Additionally, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Matthew Lewis were in attendance to see the show.

A video of the pre-recorded sketch, featuring Dan, Rupert, Emma and Matt, played during the "Queen's Handbag" performance can be seen here (screencaps here), thanks to reader Nick.

Some images from the event can be seen in our gallery. They include shots of the aforementioned HP cast members as well as JK Rowling reading Book 6 to fans.

At the event, Jo said of Book 7: "I am feeling sad as it is the last one. But so far, so good." Regarding the book's progress, she said: "I'm doing well I think. You can never really tell till you get near the end. I am not quite there yet."

Apparently, JK was "mobbed" by kids but said, unperturbed: "This is the bit I like. I like meeting them."

Update: Jo told The Times at the event that she "always believed children would come back to enjoying books - and that's not just down to me." Harry Potter would have been "a bit fazed" by the event, she said. "But he's quite cool, and I think he would have been impressed."

Would it kill Kloves to even attempt to capture the Trio like this? Harry's dark humour and sarcastic nature is one of the main things I love about him and why even with Fred and George and all the other funny characters, Harry is the funniest one of all to me. I thought the skit captured the characters very well and makes Kloves/anyone else associated with how badly the Trio have been progressively portrayed, look very pathetic.

Posted by mighty Jun 25th 2006

The hair...hmmm..... Hermione's is supposed to be bushy and Harry is supposed to have perpetual bed-head (but Ron's was long). Thus, hair was out of character. As for the queen: no offense, but doesn't she usually look bored?

Posted by danfan Jun 25th 2006

I Liked it. The only mistake was theat Ron said Voldemort. Hello? He shudders at the word.

Posted by FasirisFay Jun 25th 2006

Omigosh, Emma looks horrible in that pic of her in front of the Queen. Positively alarming. And Dan....has short hair? It looks weird, hopefully it grows out a bit for OOTP. And this is coming from the girl who hates it when he had long hair...grrr, I can't make up my mind! ^_^

Posted by trueobsession Jun 25th 2006

The acting wasn't great as many have commented on, especially Emma's. However, I was ecstatic to see the trio again in character, costumes and all. I can't wait for the new film. Through out the skit the main thought on my mind was 'what the HELL has Dan done to his hair?!' I didn't like it in GoF either, but it looked quite nice in the GoF DVD special features. Gah, and Matt's hair. I know, it's rather vain for me to focus in on stuff like that but I can't help it. Also... why would they think that having two people saying Accio together while clutching both hands on their wands would have a different effect than doing it alone and with one hand? It DID work, which made me roll my eyes a bit, but eh I'm nitpicking a skit meant for kids.

Posted by SiriusGirl Jun 25th 2006

OMG! I was watching the video, and it didn't show what happened at the end! MAN... that stinks... but personally, I think the video was a bit- not DUMB, but weird, I guess. They joked around the right way though, exactly how Harry and Ron really would.

Posted by danfan Jun 25th 2006

In the video, Emma and Jo weren't shown, or am I just blind

Posted by I_Gots_A_Broom_HA Jun 25th 2006

I didnt get to see all of it because the clip was cut off....

Posted by wands_r_us Jun 25th 2006

I think that the queen, being the queen, is completely entitled to look bored whenever. She is the Queen! Who doesn't hold her in AWE? In any case, I wish the clip didn't cut out before the end. I will never know now if she got her hand bag back! Or what kind it was!

Posted by Lorelei Jun 25th 2006

Could somebody help me out here? I tried watching the clip and it ended when the officer was saying "That's what you get for using underaged wizards." What happens after that?

Posted by Yossarian Jun 25th 2006

I was glad to hear that emma was there, she is my favorite. And who wont be sorry to see Harry Potter end? Ah well, all good things must come to an end at some time.

Posted by Nameless Jun 25th 2006

Jo, you can meet me any time! And while you're at it, give me the book seven manuscript! Just kidding.

Posted by trevorthetoad Jun 25th 2006

it was pretty funny, but the story was boring and the acting was ok...you could tell they had to make it quickly, and it really wasn't too bad. the queen looked almost miserable in the one shot of her, though.

Posted by amy4dan1327 Jun 25th 2006

the Queen's party sounded like a lot of fun; the Harry Potter clip was really awesome!!! they did a good job of putting it on, and it was neat to see Jo there as well as Emma and Rupert!!!!

Posted by Seventhchild Jun 25th 2006

What's the betting this will be an Ootp DVD extra?

Posted by Lorelei Jun 25th 2006

I hope it will be on the Ootp DVD - then I can find out how it ends!!

Posted by iheartmugglecast Jun 25th 2006

Awesome we can see it! But it is sad that JO is sad that Harry Potter is ending... so why not write more, JK! There's an idea!!!

Posted by Kit_weasley Jun 25th 2006

i thought rupert and dan were pretty funny, very in character, emma was off as usual. i don't care if matt was pointless or if his haircut sucks, he's my heart. he's adorable! they should throw him in many random scenes. dan's hair is closer to canon than it has been. i never imagined him with a super great hair cut, aunt petunia cuts his hair after all. but it could have been messier. rupert's hair looked okay. hermione's too perfect. and neville seems like he could be the victim of a bad haircut. it was cute for a little skit. not great, but okay. and someone said the queen looked miserable, she's 80, noone at that age feels too great running around in the heat meeting everyone and doing stuff, i'm sure she'd be happier just sitting in a recliner just enjoying her birthday with family.

Posted by karaz Jun 25th 2006

Ack-ee-o?? What? According to the Scholastic prounouncing guide it's Ah-see-o. Dan said it properly in GoF, so why the switch?

Posted by Chrisell Jun 25th 2006

Dan said Akkio in GOF. Watch the movie again.

Posted by Lorelei Jun 25th 2006

How does it end???

Posted by bogart Jun 25th 2006

Excuse me, I know this doesn't have anything to do with this news, but is anyone else having problems getting in the CoS forums? I need to know if it is my computer or the site. Thanks.

Posted by TinaL Jun 25th 2006

The acting was super...specially Dan's man he is becoming more Harry like than Rupert and Emma, Dan surely can be sarcastic, he acting was great and so natural, Rupert was ok but at times he seems to be a bit force, Emma didn't move her eyebrow a lot do that was a great improvement, but again why Hermoine has to save the day, Mathew bless him, his haircut was wayb too funny but hey is just a movie so I don't really care about hair.

Posted by Sariza Jun 25th 2006

That's cool, but the sound won't work for me on the video. Anyone have any ideas?

Posted by mandaa Jun 25th 2006

Aww haha i love the part when Dan suggest Veritaserum then Emma's like we don't know who the thief is then Dan says "good point" really quietly lol i liked the skit it showed the actors a bit more laid back :]

Posted by oroleon Jun 25th 2006

It cut me off. I need to see the end. I think I am going to cry. :( xx Kmac

Posted by performingmonkey Jun 25th 2006

Look, it IS 'akkio' and not 'assio'. Do not trust the pronunciation guide. Trust Jo (apart from 'Voldemort' which she pronounces without the 't', as do a lot of people).

Posted by yues_woman Jun 25th 2006

Is it just me, or did Matthew Lewis, who was sitting next to rupert with the queen, look, well, rather hot? ... ... Makes me regret not meeting him when he was in the country even more...

Posted by Lorelei Jun 25th 2006

Orleon - I'm with you. I've been asking people to tell me how it ends for over an hour. WAAAAA!

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Jun 25th 2006

yea crookshanks800 and karaz(btw like Chrisell said dan did say akkio in GOF when he was getting his broomstick), i was wondering the same thing...whenever i read the book i said ah see oh but i guess if JKRowling says akkio its akkio!

Posted by Sariza Jun 25th 2006

For people wondering about the "ah-see-oh" versus "a-kee-oh": I pronounce it as a combination. Like "accident", only "ak-see-oh". Just wanted to get my two cents in...

Posted by clue91 Jun 25th 2006

Well, about the akkio verses aseeo, I always said the second one, but in the movie Dan said the first one. I don't think I've ever heard JKR say it at all, but I think in the American audio books, they say aseeo. But it doesn't really matter. Anyway, I thought the skit was cute. I could see little kids enjoying it. Everyone's hair was kind of bad. I don't know why they can't put it like it was in PoA. They had good hair then. Except Hermione's wasn't bushy enough. As usual, Rupert Grint was underused. He has wonderful comic timing, and he is a really well rounded actor. I hope to God that this new screenwriter writes Ron more like in the books, and stop shoving him in the background. Sure, Harry and Hermione are friends, but Harry said himself in the GoF book, she just isnt the same as Ron. They need to stop Hollywoodizing it by having a leading man and a leading lady. Anyway, I got really off topic. Sorry! I just can't stand the constant ignorance of my favorite character!

Posted by Lorelei Jun 25th 2006

As for the accio argument, I think it depends if one speaks classical or medieval latin. If one is using the classical pronunciation, the sound is "k", if medieval, "ch". (Unless you're in Hollywood in which case all Latin speakers have a British accent.)

Posted by love2laugh_asma Jun 25th 2006

JKR looks so pretty in that photo!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Nevera Jun 25th 2006

At least the play was better than the third movie.

Posted by LillyBlack Jun 26th 2006

"You can never really tell till you get near the end. I;m not quite there yet." ...?!? The last book came out a year ago, and judging by this quote the next one will be out two years from now. If I have to wait that long I'll die. The suspence is killing me...

Posted by oroleon Jun 26th 2006

You know, I get some form of BBC and I flipped through to see if there was anything regarding it on their. Yet alas, nothing. I mean, I assume I could read it with what everyone is saying on here, but I would really like to watch it. Perhaps a rerun airtime could be requested. If not, they may have a transcript. And if not that I say "Accio 'complete footage of The Queen's Party at the Palace" However the heck it's pronounced. lol xx Kate

Posted by Nely_Longbottom Jun 26th 2006

Wow, man!!! I have only one word for it! Funny!!!! The boys holding the wand with both hands and saying Accio were funny! I had the feeling that they were holding themselves to avoid to laugh. When all the bangs appears, the wide open eye of the owl. Neville. The boys and girl just look the old same. Loved it!!! PS.: People. Stop complaining about hair and action. I think it mean exactly what it was, funny and lame... on purpose.

Posted by DameDesDenkariums Jun 26th 2006

Sorry to write so, but JKR´s dress remembered me (because of the colours and the muster) of my mummy´s old pinafore/smock. Don´t be angry but this was my first thought I had, hahaha. Anyway the performance was toooooo childish in terms of the dark and sinister development of the Harry Potter storytelling and plot.

Posted by roadtripkaraoke Jun 26th 2006

I'm about to give up on this...stuff. Look, page me when book 7 has a title and give me a ring when we have a real release date. Sheesh.

Posted by Splizzash Jun 26th 2006

Hey, how did it end? Did the accio charm work? Did her majesty get her lost hand bag? Grrr! I hate loose ends!

Posted by ElizaW Jun 26th 2006

I downloaded the video and it stopped before the policeman does the charm. I like the skit, though.

Posted by miss_npotter Jun 26th 2006

oh my god so cool! i'm so glad to see dan, rupe, and emma there. well, at least i think i saw rupe and em there. lol. anyway, can't wait to see the video! pictures look awesome! :D

Posted by iamthebest Jun 26th 2006

Would you people shut it with the damn hair controversy. It's so annoying. It's "Harry Potter" not "Hairy Potter"! These books and these movies are not about hair and yet throughout 143 comments that is all that is talked about, it seems.

Posted by NickM Jun 26th 2006

For alll of you desperate to know, the video everyone in the audience tries the accio (or as they pronounce it ackeyo) charm and it fails. They give it one more try louder and it works. The burglar and the handbag appear. The capture the burglar after he tries to flee, the queen comes on waves her glasses in the air, puts them on and reads her speech.

Posted by Splizzash Jun 26th 2006

Ah, thanks...resolution...

Posted by Lishi Jun 26th 2006

I loved the skit. It was cute. Very Harry Potter-ish.

Posted by Lishi Jun 26th 2006

Posted by Nevera 4 hours ago At least the play was better than the third movie. LOL! ...and I almost agree.

Posted by Kadaj Jun 26th 2006

Could they possibly make HP any more suckier? No wonder people say that HP is for 'kiddies'. What a massacre.
