Harry Potter films to be re-released in Blu-ray
Harry Potter films to be re-released in Blu-ray Good news for those of you who plan to make the switch to Blu-ray DVDs: Warner Brothers has announced that several films will be released in a special book-like edition, including Harry Potter. HighDefDigest.com reports:

...the studio will kick off a new line of deluxe next-gen releases geared towards the collector's market. Sure to please film buffs, the slate of ten releases will wrap the high-def picture and sound in a handsomely bound volume containing rare and never-before-seen archival material.

We're not yet sure which Potter films will be re-released, nor what "archival material" they will include. However, we'll keep you updated. Thanks to Matt for the tip!

NOOOO!!! i have to re-buy em :P

Posted by manchesterutd Mar 11th 2008

thats pretty cool. Maybe they'll do a bundle set for all five of them so they may be a bit cheaper. Top 5?

Posted by hpintwense06 Mar 11th 2008

oo that's kind of cool. too bad i don't have Blu-ray. =P

Posted by ALe_Av Mar 11th 2008

that's cool, I don't have all of the old ones anyway. just in time to top5 maybe?

Posted by mac_attack Mar 11th 2008

TOP TEN. FTW. well i hope this new "archival material" is actual good stuff. instead of that "mysteries of harry potter" on OOTP. maybe they will do something like that, but this time include book 7. who knows.

Posted by trueligth Mar 11th 2008

I have the 5 of them, but I will like to have them also in this blu-ray. This will be really good. ( An d I can believe I am No 5)

Posted by elainemarie Mar 11th 2008

i'm kinda confused. does releasing it on blu-ray mean it won't come out on regular? or will it come out on both regular dvd AND blu-ray?

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 11th 2008

blue ray is a waste of $.... reg DVDs ftw

Posted by mac_attack Mar 11th 2008

its saying that the will RE-RELEASE the dvd's. that means that the ones already on regular DVD (SS-OOTP) will now be available on blue ray. but im pretty sure that HBP and DH will still be released on dvd. but we dont have to worry about that for abother 2 years or so.

Posted by honeydukes0209 Mar 11th 2008

idk, I already have all the films, so I probably won't be making a swich to BlueRay...cool, though.

Posted by elainemarie Mar 11th 2008

yah i was wondering for the 6th and 7th movie.

Alright. Let me try and explain this to everyone. Warner Bros. is going to be releasing a string of Blu-ray Disc movies in special 'book' packaging. Among those Blu-rays being released in this style of packaging will be Bonnie and Clyde, Dirty Harry, and one, a few, or all of the films in the Harry Potter franchise. The films have all already been released on Blu-ray separately and in that box-set just before Christmas. This just means that Warner Bros. will RE-release them on Blu-ray but in this fancy new packaging. This only applies to Blu-ray and does not at all affect the regular DVD releases. It is simply a technique to lure more people to buy films, particularly catalogue titles, on Blu-ray. And I have to admit that as a lover of Blu-ray I will be getting all of the titles the release like this, but will only get Harry Potter is they plan to release all the films in the same method. It would be amazing to have all the Potter films on my shelf in book-style packaging. I hope that clears thing up for anybody who was confused. Again, Blu-ray Harry Potter is getting a RE-release, and the regular DVD will remain the same and future films will certainly be released on regular DVD as well, so no need to worry if you don't have a Blu-ray player.

Holy crap! Those are gonna look AMAZING on blu-ray! Haha too bad I won't be able to afford them! I'll stick with my regular DVDs thank you very much! Bahahaha!!

Finally! An excuse to buy a PS3

Posted by Chattery Mar 12th 2008

This is interesting. Though a dead technology, I am buying the first five films on HD DVD because they are dirt cheap, easy to get into high-definition for the moment. They are about $12 here in Australia. However, they are available in Blu-Ray already here in Australia, and I'm pretty sure in the states as well... Yeah just looked on Amazon. They're on Blu-Ray. All you will get is some new packaging. What a waste of time

Posted by nurmengard Mar 12th 2008

How about packaging in some DECENT BELLATRIX FOOTAGE into the extras?

Posted by lunalovegoodsnumberonefan Mar 12th 2008

I was kind of disappointed with the bonus features on the regular dvd version of the OOTP,there was so much more bonus stuff on the other versions but not on that one. I felt kind of ripped off for paying all that money for it,and only getting four bonus features. I mean come on WB you gave alot of bonus stuff on the GOF special edition regular 2 disc dvd version,so why not on the OOTP one. I don't own any of the blu-ray Harry Potter dvd's but i will buy them for sure, and i hope it has tons more bonus features than the regular dvd versions, and i will buy the Hi-Def versions also.

Personally I would like to wait and get them all at once after 6 and 7 are released - it seems a little ridiculous to get them in a book form unless all of them are included - unless of course they made the book form with space for 6 and 7 so that they could be added when the appropriate time arrives. I also hope that the movies are presented in the elongated form rather than have the "deleted scenes" on a spearate disc. They show them on TV with the extra scenes just put them on the discs in the right places already.

I agree with lunalovegoodsnumberonefan . OotP had NOTHING. Trailing Tonks was the only good thing and even that was only like 20-30 minutes.

Posted by Arry Mar 12th 2008

I will only switch to Blu ray when they give us EXTENDED EDITIONS!!!

Posted by mac_attack Mar 12th 2008

i second nurmengard 's opinion. in an interview somewhere helena bonham carter said that she had weeks of wand training and she was disapointed that only one scene was accepted in the movie. so hopefully movie 6/7 will have TONS of bellatrix because she is essentially a bamf.

Everything's being released in Blu Ray now ... maybe I should get it ...

That's cool

Posted by Candie Mar 13th 2008

Ummmm, I'm slightly confused since they already released them on Blu-ray. I should know because I already bought the entire collection on Blu-ray in the "Special Edition" set. Truly puzzling!
