Matt Lewis speaks at Collectormania, confirms DH split
Matt Lewis speaks at Collectormania, confirms DH split Collectormania 2008 hosted Matt Lewis and his brother yesterday in Manchester, England, where he answered several questions about the Harry Potter films. Snitch Seeker has a small report from Matt Lewis' talk, where one reader says he did confirm previous rumors that Deathly Hallows would be split in two.

All of these leaks and quotes from people inside the Potter film are adding up, and at this point an announcement from WB should be imminent. We'll keep you posted!

yay i'm no.1 i think hehe. Matt lewis is hot hot hot!!

Posted by Jill_the_Impossible Mar 12th 2008

WB better start giving us some info! seems like its coming from everywhere else but them.

Posted by Jimmy_D Mar 12th 2008

3rd? and hope they just release them at the same time is my only concern.

Posted by kerrman2004 Mar 12th 2008

ok time for my second comment because i didn't get to say anything i wanted in the first one coz i was rushing to be no. 1 haha only messin Anyways, i think Mtat is such a funny cute guy. He seems really down to earth like. He's super hot with his stubble. and messy hair. I would prefer that Deathly Hallows be a 4 hour film with an intermission but i guess i'm kinda glad about the 2 films. It means they will be true to the books and it also means more excitment for the second film. The harry potter craze can still last for an extra film now. yay!!

Posted by XdumbledoresXarmyX Mar 12th 2008

wb might as well just go ahead and confirm it now... everyone else is saying it. oh well, at least we get 3 more movies instead of 2!!!

Posted by secrets_and_magic Mar 12th 2008

two films still seems wierd to me. oh well. 6th!?!?

Posted by Ishi Mar 12th 2008

omg noooooooooo :( I don't want it split!!

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Mar 12th 2008

Even if it's not officially confirmed by WB, Matthew Lewis seems like a very reliable source. I bet there will be an official announcement very soon. I'm not sure if I like the movie being split. We're still not sure what they're doing but it seems like it's going to be 2 completely separate movies. I think I would prefer a really long movie with an intermission.

Posted by HermioneIsMyHero27 Mar 12th 2008

Ok, even if they might not be able to fit the whole book into a 2.5 hour long movie, I don't understand how it will work if they split it into 2 parts. Won't that ruin the arc of the story, thereby making the climactic battle at hogwarts seem less, well, climactic? How long will we have to wait between movie 7 part 1 and movie 7 part 2? I mean, most of the people seeing the films now are the real fans of the books, and I think most of us would sit through an extra long movie if it meant not having to wait until 2012 to see the end of the movie.

Posted by Dani456 Mar 12th 2008

Yes Yes yesyes yesyesyesyesyesss!!! YES!!! Split!!! YES!!! Only if they release them at the same time... if they dont... Ohhh, they will get it then.....

Posted by Quantummilkshake Mar 12th 2008

so it really will be split? They better release them at the same time! But I love that idea! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! And Matt Lewis doesn't look like Neville at all in real life, does he? He looks so.. manly and old. lol!

Posted by kerrman2004 Mar 12th 2008

well two movies means they will include every detail from the book which is great news for HP book fans! I wonder at what point they will end the first DH movie though to make it seem interesting. Like..."to be concluded" I have a feeling they might end the first movie when Ron leaves Harry and Hermione in the forest with Hermione screaming Ron's name into the night. That might be a good way to end it. I dunno though. its hard to tell. They will probably release them about 4 months appart like the last two Matrix movies, which were all filmed at one and origionally meant to be one movie.

Posted by Quantummilkshake Mar 12th 2008

No! Both at once or people will forget! And even worse-- we'll all have to *cringe* wait. But yeah! Please make a big long, 2 movie DH! I wish you had thought of this earlier though WB! Say.. with GOF or OOTP?! Why didn't you do it then as well?

Posted by Jill_the_Impossible Mar 12th 2008

i dont think many people forgot what happened in LOTR, so this wont be a problem

Posted by xchrisvx Mar 12th 2008

Lame. Let there be no mistake, the only reason they are splitting the book is so they can milk every last penny out of the franchise as they can. It's a business decision only. Don't confuse yourself thinking they're trying to please the fans or remain "faithful" to the story. They're only trying to please their bank accounts.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Mar 12th 2008

Yaaaaaaaaay!!! I'm sooo excited. I can't wait until WB makes the official announcement. It's going to be awesome!!! I'm actuallly excited about a two-part film now, especially after listening to the chapter by chapter segments on mugglecast and the bit by bit segments on pottercast. I had forgotten how much stuff actually happened in that one book. And I'm also excited that David Yates is directing it, he's awesome!! Matt Lewis and his bother are smokin'!!!! Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Matt Lewis used to be short and chubby. I never would have guessed he would grow up to be that sexy!!

Posted by lunalovegoodsnumberonefan Mar 12th 2008

Come on WB give us some info for the Deathly Hallows already. I see all these actor's in the film, and directors and people saying it's going to be split in two,so just get on the ball and let us know WB. I also want to see a teaser type trailer for the Half-Blood Prince already WB,just get moving of info for us HP fans. Update the official site for the Half-Blood Prince now,if you can without giving spoilers of how the movie looks.

Posted by dark_nymph Mar 12th 2008

Yay!! That sure is exciting news. I was having a pretty rough morning, but now that I'm on Mugglenet and drinking a Java Monster, I'm feeling much better:) I really like Matthew Lewis. Like Dan, he looks much older in real life. And he does such a good job playing Neville. I'm actually really glad to hear that there will be two parts to DH. I just don't see how they could condense all of the book into 2.5 hours. Also, I hope to hear more updates on HBP!

Posted by kerrman2004 Mar 12th 2008

Yea I agree with xchrisvx that WB are only doing this to make money from an extra film but still, if they are gonna do two movies, they have to be detailed right? I mean if you think about it, JK Rowling outdone herself for DH, everything in DH is important and interesting, every sentence every detail. So WB really can't afford to leave anything out, thats why they are doing two movies aswell i think, besides the money.

Two separate movies is a terrible idea, a longer movie with or without an intermission would be acceptable.

Posted by hermy62442 Mar 12th 2008

I just hope they do this two-movie thing in a good way.

Posted by lillink1222 Mar 12th 2008

I kinda hope it's true, but as long as they do the split well. And I'm not too worried about the wait, because one of the funnest parts of the Harry Potter fandom is the anticipation!

Posted by bobfredc3q Mar 12th 2008

Wow... I hope we get the "official announcement" as if we really needed anything more to tell us that there's gonna be two DH movies. Well, I hope they don't F this up. lol

Posted by Dadu701 Mar 12th 2008

yes! this makes me so happy! I have been wishing for the movies to be split ever since Alfonso Curon ruined the thired movie and basically the whole franchise. this will hopefully redeem it lol

Posted by tiassa Mar 12th 2008

Yay! at last!

Posted by snapebaby27 Mar 12th 2008

I think they should've taken the last two books and made it into 3 movies... but whatever. Anyway, one reason I'm glad they are making it into two movies (even though one long one would be awesome) is that if it's over about 2:45 they will not be able to show it in IMAX. My hubby is an IMAX tech and Goblet of Fire was almost too big for the movie platter. If it were much longer they wouldn't be able to play it :-(

Posted by brunetteginny Mar 12th 2008

omg! Yay its official finally! When is the live mugglecast?

Posted by chidarkcy Mar 12th 2008

i'm wondering, how are they going to name the movies? DH1 and DH2? that's stupid hahaha... i think they had to do a larger movie better... too much detail in a movie could be dangerous... maybe boring... (specially for those who aren't read the books)

Posted by ssaint92 Mar 12th 2008

i think thats good that they are splitting it up theres just too much to put in one movie ITS GONNA BE GREAT!

Posted by d0bbyr0cksmys0cks Mar 12th 2008

omg, dh in 2 movies?! holly bajebus. when i first the possibility of them doing it, i was kinda like no! no ! no! but after reading the comments, i have to say, if they include all the important details of the book, i'll be okay with it. but i must agree with xchrisvx they are sooooooo doing this for the money, rather than the fans. well maybe the fans to, but i'm pretty sure money play a part in this descision. but seriously, why can they make a long movie with an intermission in it? i'm pretty sure no one would mind, as long as the movie's good. i've sat through 4 hour movies before in a theatre an it's not THAT bad. just as long as the story sucks you in, you're good. *sighs* WB why do you do this to us? and come out with an official announcement asap!

Posted by hooked_on_Harry Mar 12th 2008

not sure if i really like the idea but the titles of the movie should prove interesting.....just like the matrix or LOTR.....i can see it now "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, The Beginning of the End" Then the 2nd movie can be named, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, The Final Battle for Hogwarts" just a suggestion. imho. i really would like a 4 or 4 1/2 hour movie with an intermission.

Posted by ElderWand07 Mar 12th 2008

awesome about the split but i hope both splits come out a couple weeks of each other. -ad

Posted by ambulance Mar 12th 2008

Elderwand07-- I agree! Just like they did with Kill Bill. I would be pretty upset if I had to wait ANOTHER year for the second half of the movie. Maybe even a month or two in between? But not a year. If they do a release within a few months of each other I'm VERY EXCITED about the decision.

Posted by warlocksandmuggwumps Mar 12th 2008

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! no split, no no no no no no no no no no no no NO! I'm sorry but that would just suck. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! for so many reasons that i don't have time to say. so anyway NO! lol but still no no no no no no no NO!

Posted by lunalovegoodsnumberonefan Mar 12th 2008

Yeah it would be horrible intermission from the first part of the Deathly Hallows, then we have to wait all that time to see how they made the whole other part of the last Harry Potter. I agree that it would be better to be one long film for the last,i wouldn't want to wait even though it would be awesome to anticipate another thing of Harry Potter. I am for the doing a long film version of it like they did with the Lord Of The Rings.

Posted by Jessalyn621 Mar 12th 2008

I like that DH is going to be split into two separate movies. It has the potential to be more faithful to the book that way. I am not naive enough to think that because there's gonna be two movies, every single detail from the book will be portrayed perfectly in the movies. That simply cannot be done. However, just like with the past movies, I'm not going to let the things they changed totally ruin the movie for me. Yes, a lot has been cut out of the past movies. However, even though there were things that I wish had been more faithful to the book, I still love each and every one of the movies because as a whole, in their own right, they are good movies. Now, about DH... My friend was the one who said this, so I cannot take credit. There are 2 storylines to follow in DH: Horcruxes and Hallows. If it were one movie, then they would have to make the same kind of choice Harry did: Do we focus on the Hallows or do we focus on the Horcruxes? Either way, one of the two storylines would have suffered. Since there's going to be two movies, neither of them have to suffer. However, they can't focus on Hallows for one movie and Horcruxes for the other; they are way too intertwined towards the end for that. With two movies, though, they have more time to develop both storylines. Oh, and about the release dates... Come on, people. Haven't you seen movies enough to know that sequels are NEVER released on the same exact date as the prequel? It

Posted by warlocksandmuggwumps Mar 12th 2008

although maybe if they released within a few months of each other, that would be okay. maybe. lol

Posted by mlc872 Mar 12th 2008

I have to agree with xchrisvx Wb is not doing this to make the fans happy they are doing this to line their bank accounts. These movies have been WB's cash cow for a long time andthey are on the verge of losing it. Instead of paying $10.00 a ticket you will now be paying $20.00 to see something that could be done in one sitting just make it a little longer. A family of 4 will now spend close to $100.00 to see this one book be cut up into two films (and I think it will be buthered becasue the first one will end weird no matter where they cut it). Oh and lets not forget that now instead of one DVD for $20-40 depending on format you will now be spending $40-$80 for this one story. I think they are really taken advantage of the fans becasue they know most will still go. So if you think they are doing this for us the fans think again in Hollywood the only thing that matters is the all mighty dollar.

Posted by djaccio Mar 12th 2008

ok everyone needs to remember something about the moviw industry. reputation = more job opportunities which = more $$$$. so with this in mind if they are just doing it for the $$$$ it's as much of a good thing as if they were doing it solely for the fans. not that they can't mess it up but i think they'll do it right. just something to think about :)

Posted by Lorcan_Patrick_McCarthy Mar 12th 2008

One long movie would be better. I love HP, but I hate the waiting. Besides, they've got to be careful. Alan Rickman, Dame Maggie, Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane...they might get other commitments and get burned out on HP. They're great actors and WB doesn't have them on exclusive contract. Not just them, but any one of the other actors. I'm not sure I'd go see a movie without the original actors. The switch to Michael was bad enough and that was a completely different set of circumstances.

Posted by deathly101 Mar 12th 2008

i would rather have had a rly rly looooong movie! pirates of the caribean at worlds end was 3 hrs so why can't HP be 4 hrs? 8 movies just doesn't make sense to me but i guess the harry potter craze will last a bit longer!! can't wait till DH releases!! n i like matt!!!

Posted by Jessalyn621 Mar 12th 2008

Well, my last post taught me something very valuable indeed. There is in fact a character limit on posts and you are given no warning when you've reached it. Lovely. Anyway, all I had left to say was this: They'll probably be filmed at the same time, but we're most likely looking at months, maybe even up to a year between release dates. Sorry, just being realistic. And there is no way people will forget what happened from movie 1 to movie 2. No, movies don't generally have "previously on", but if the second movie comes and you've forgotten what happened in the first movie...go to Blockbuster and rent the first one! Chances are good that it'll be on DVD before movie 2 hits theaters. If not, rereading the book would probably refresh your memory. Movie 1 and Movie 2...what are they gonna call them, anyway? Good question! Hmm...Harry Potter 7: The Fellowship of the Golden Trio? Harry Potter 7: The Return of You-Know-Who? Harry Potter 7: Revenge of the Death-Eaters? Hehe, sorry, couldn't resist!

Posted by adriennecray Mar 12th 2008

Hell YES!!!! This is great for many reasons. 1. They can fit more book content into the movies so the plot doesn't get so condensed. 2. it'll draw out time until the HP era ends 3. THINK of all the bonus DVD content we'll get!!! + Dan will get older and hotter for the epilogue scene, well not that much older...=P

Posted by hprebel311 Mar 12th 2008

woot!! i'm glad we get to draw out the time before the end of an epic. they are not milking their cash cow or whatever, and if they are, who cares, we just get more movie time and better adaptation. it will definitely be interesting to see where they cut it off and what they call the two though.

Posted by Gatorgirlie Mar 12th 2008

I'm still not quite sure why people are so upset about the split -- I'm thrilled. #1: They could film them *at the same exact time* ala Kill Bill. It would mean a longer time span for the actors but so would a longer movie. They could edit and do special effects at the same time and have them released, if not *at the same time*, then only weeks later. If I'm remembering correctly, that's pretty much what Tarantino did with Kill Bill, he released Vol. II a month after Vol. I. The Kill Bill situation is very much like Deathly Hallows in that it is one specific story broken into two parts due to time restrictions. #2: No, MOST people won't sit through a 4 or 5 hour movie. Not even with an intermission. Unfortunately, most people have something called a "life" and it doesn't necessarily revolve around Harry Potter. *You* might be able to sit through a four or five hour movie but I, a 28-year-old with a child and lower back problems, can't. If you all remember (correctly, mind you), the longest LOTR movie was Return of the King, at THREE HOURS AND 22 minutes. The previous two were both slightly under three hours long. The reason why the DVDs are all close to four hours in length is because THEY ADDED FOOTAGE to the movie. Even with a 3h &22m film, some critics panned the movie for its excessive length. Thinking about it, I

Posted by Gatorgirlie Mar 12th 2008

Ha ha, darn comment limit.... I

Posted by HermioneIsMeX Mar 12th 2008

This is great in a way because, as it's been said before, they'll have no choice but remain a bit more faithful to the book as they have more time etc. and it'll draw out time until the HP era ends. However, I'm not too keen on it because when they cut it off it'll just suck and ruin the whole mood, when the audience are just getting into it and it'll be interesting to see what they name the two movies. And the wait will definately suck if it's longer than a couple of months which it most probably will be. I agree with xchrisvx it's just a way for WB to make $$$$

Posted by Gatorgirlie Mar 12th 2008

One more time? I

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 12th 2008

All these quotes and confirmations... it'll give MuggleCast a crapload to talk about. :D Anyways, the idea of a 2-part movie is really starting to grow on me. However, I do have my qualms; first of all, I have pretty high expectations as to what they are going to keep and if they don't live up to it, well... The second thing is, how are they going to do it? :/ I guess we'll have to wait and see. :)
