Steve Kloves talks Deathly Hallows split
Steve Kloves talks Deathly Hallows split Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves today sent an email to the Baltimore Sun, shedding light on his thoughts of the Deathly Hallows split announced yesterday:

"Years ago," he writes, "we briefly — and seriously — considered doing Goblet of Fire as two films. So this concept is not altogether new. As for Deathly Hallows, I intuited — almost from the first moments I began reading it and certainly once I’d finished — that to realize the story in a single film was going to be a tall order. Others in 'the group' felt similarly. So the idea of two films began to get kicked around as early as late summer of 2007. We didn’t take it lightly. But ultimately everyone felt that despite the challenges it would present, it was the most sound creative decision. I’m sure some will think we’re crazy.

i agree with him that fitting all of deathly hallows in one movie would be a very tall order. im glad they are splitting it into two movies in order to make sure to do this amazing book as much justice as possible!

I'm really glad they went with two movies. After the movies are all finished, I think they should do a high-quality animated TV series, starting with Philosopher's Stone, and stick religiously to the books.

cheesecakes? anyone here?

I think Serena Wronkski is right that sounds about how I think they should make the two movies. I cant wait to see my favorit characters like BILL AND CHARLEY and the rest of them in the book. As for the age problem im ok seeing that ill be like 23 when they come out. But all hopes they do these movies right. Harry potter for life.

In regards to kreacher888's post, I'll explain and it's a simple 3 reasons. 1. The Harry Potter films are very visual effects heavy. So if these two films are to be filmed together, to complete the amount effects at the same time is a very difficult task. They need sufficient time to complete the effects for movie two. The Lord of The Rings Trilogy were all filmed together, but were released one year apart mainly because they needed a lot more time to complete all CG work. 2. Money. This is the last Harry Potter book, which means the last movie. So, of course WB is going to want to cash in as much as possible with this last film. Because after this one, there ain't anymore to make money from. 3. I really do believe they also want to make fans happy and put a very faithful adaptation on screen. So obviously, this was also a creative decision. I hope this enlightened you. And one more thing. They don't do intermissions for movies, at least not in this day. The average moviegoer already has a difficult time sitting through a 2 hour film. Remember, these movies are for everybody and not just Harry Potter book fans. So they have a very wide variety of an audience to worry about.

I know I've already commented here, but I just wanted to add, as an afterthought, a reminder to all of you who hate David Yates for the cuts made on Order of the Phoenix: HE DIDN'T MAKE THEM. This guy, the screenwriter, did. So if you are going to hate someone for the cuts, this is the guy who's at fault. I personally don't hate anyone because of that, but that's just me.

I'm personally against this split. I would love to have a longer movie (they use to make long movies with intermissions) rather than trying to get another few bucks out of us. I know that this is years away, but personally I'm going to protest the split and boycott part one. (I'm sure that they will re-release before part two).

"I like the idea of splitting the series into three more films (Half Blood, and the finale split), but I don't think Yates is the right choice to have directed the majority of the films. He gets four of eight, that's all this guy needs- a bigger ego. Now he can brush off Coloumbus, Cuaron, and Newell. He "directed the Harry Potter films." He already was cutting so much out in the movies. Ugh! Just a rushed decision by Warner Bros to make quick cash by keeping Yates. At least they could have waited to see if the sixth movie was good. Glad for final threee films, but not director. I think DH Part 1 should end with the christmas graveyard scene at Godric's Hollow" How does David Yates have an ego just because he's being allowed to direct the remaining films? Any director would leap at the opportunity to finish a series - but to say it's giving him a "bigger ego" is silly.

Posted by LethiaMalfoy Mar 23rd 2008

personally i agree with preformingmonkey. and i think every other book fan should too. DH was an amazing final installment and im glad that it is being taken to the seriousness that it should be. also no one should be complaning about them adding extra scenes to make things more clear (
