Full coverage: JKR on Richard & Judy
Full coverage: JKR on Richard & Judy JK Rowling's live interview on the UK afternoon talk show Richard & Judy has just concluded. Although the presenters lacked any in-depth knowledge of the series, if you're anything like me, you'll love Jo even more after watching it.

You can find full coverage of the interview below:

Video: here, thanks to Nick.

Transcript: here.

Screencaps: here, thanks to Natalie.
Here are some of the key points mentioned:

- She is well into writing Book 7 now.

- Although she still has the final chapter of Book 7 stored away in a safe, it has been altered slightly: Two more people have kicked the can while another has gotten a reprieve.

- Jo originally wrote this chapter in 1990. By doing so, she says some people have found her to be arrogant as she didn't have a publisher at the time.

- It was suggested to her that she would have good reason to kill Harry off in Book 7 so that no one could write sequels to the book when she's finished.

- She concedes having "boxed herself in" by writing certain minor plot details in earlier books, which now means she has to spend a great deal of time explaining or tying up.

- For the first three books, she says she was in denial about her success and fame "like a rabbit caught in headlights." Although she found them "cool," she says it was also peculiar to see casual references to Harry Potter in the press.

- Her daughter Jessica has dealt magnificently with the effects her mother's fame has had on her, such as kids at school pestering her for the title of upcoming books.

- Richard suggested dating was tricky because some people might only show an interest in her because of her wealth, but she said it was being a single mother that made it hard.

- If she saw a Boggart, she would see what Mrs. Weasley saw in Book 5: her children deceased.

Posted by KatieRiddle Jun 26th 2006

i dont know if its possible to love jo even more

Posted by trueligth Jun 26th 2006

I miss the interview, but I hope she has not give any clues about the new and last book in the series. Also I hope that JK would write more about this favority wizard in the near future.

Posted by LunaLovegoodRoxx23 Jun 26th 2006

I WANT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by englandrox Jun 26th 2006

True, I thought that the kids could have asked better questions...like, what's the name of the next book?????????????

Posted by Kerry01 Jun 26th 2006

The only revealing bit was when she talked about the deaths in book 7. Obviously she didn't say who but she did say two people will die that she hadn't originally planned (and she said her husband was shocked and sad (not actual quote) when she told him who died). And also one character that she was planning on killing off won't be. woohoo. Nothing mentioned about release dates. *le sigh* She's so lovely though. I just love Jo even more.

Posted by Henrietta_thePseudonym Jun 26th 2006

I'd heard the answers to many of the questions before, but what really intrigued me was when she said she'd given one character a reprieve (from death), but there were two characters she had to unfortunately kill. OMG! I need to know who she was refering to.

Posted by mugglenat Jun 26th 2006

she said at least 2 people would die on it didnt she? its amazing how i had already heard most of the answers that she gave to the questions because i go on the websites so much. didnt one charecter get redemption or something like that? the plot thinkens...

Posted by performingmonkey Jun 26th 2006

Yes, she said someone who she thought was going to die in the series had got a reprieve! But two others die who were alive in her original epilogue! Richard managed to control himself more than what he usually does with guests, even though he did say a couple of abrupt things like when Jo was explaining she had written herself into a corner concerning a couple of minor plot points by what she had included in the early books, he said 'you were screwed'. And I'm surprised he didn't bombard her with questions like 'what's the title of the last book' or 'does Harry die'. Maybe Jo had already told them not to ask her because it was pointless. They talked about Lockhart being based on one of her exes again, and Richard wanted her to reveal who it is but she wouldn't because she didn't want to 'ruin his life'.

Posted by Books_4_eva Jun 26th 2006

So the new information is that she has slightly changed the last chapter to give a character a reprival. Oh and 2 characters are going to die that she never originally planed. Hmmmm they always ask the same old questions and ones that we already know the answers to as well. Oh bless JK daughter been hounded by the kids at school for the tittles of books and stuff.

Posted by kaeli Jun 26th 2006

YAY! I can't wait for the interview! It looks so good from what you guys have said!

Posted by indiansummersky Jun 26th 2006

argh. It was great to see her on there, but it's really brought it home about it all ending. *clings to remus*

Posted by Greendude233 Jun 26th 2006

Thats awsome, cant wait for the video!!!

Posted by englandrox Jun 26th 2006

don't worry if you missed the interview because it was nothing new and any new things you can read in some of the other comments above

Posted by Samantha_Weasley Jun 26th 2006

hurry up with the video....i'm really bored

Posted by Volvo Jun 26th 2006

Im a bit worried about the death part!! One Death shocked her husband? Could it be one of the trio?

Posted by marcnlard Jun 26th 2006

What a wasted opportunity. The questions that were asked by Richard and Judy were purile in the extreme. We know very little what we did'nt already know. R+J obviously had done very little research, (e.g. when Michael Gambon was on last week they were convinced Dumbledore was already dead in the film).

Posted by SnowMonkey Jun 26th 2006

Yeah and she said that the 2 people who die are main charaters or atleast implied it with "the bad guys don't go for the background characters, there'd hardly be evil if they did"(or along these lines)

Posted by GeorgusGirl Jun 26th 2006

Okay..I'll admit it..when I saw this..I SCREAMED! Haha..so excited for the video!

Posted by sarahness Jun 26th 2006

Posted by katie19 Jun 26th 2006

Woooooooo! I can't wiat for more!

Posted by katiemay Jun 26th 2006

Well it makes me feel a *little* better knowing one person is back from the deat, but TWO casualties in its place. I'm a little freaked now. I'm really worried that R or Hr is one of the two new deaths.

Posted by GeorgusGirl Jun 26th 2006

Perosnally..I think that if one of the trio dies..It'll be Hermione :( Who agrees?

Posted by englandrox Jun 26th 2006

no i think it'll be ron trying to save hermione

Posted by indiansummersky Jun 26th 2006

I think Draco will bite it, for sure.

Posted by Volvo Jun 26th 2006

Hagrid Maybe?

Posted by Kim Jun 26th 2006

I thought JKR said that Ron wouldn't die?? Anyway, I just want the title for 7!!!!

Posted by hpnlost Jun 26th 2006

It would have been the same with any talk show, the same questions and answers. We got what we got, it's interesting enough!

Posted by TriWizKid Jun 26th 2006

cool interveiw. :)

Posted by Jadore_lui Jun 26th 2006

She also said that she wouldn't kill Harry off until the last book - hmm? Read between the lines there. Good interview, i was disappointed though that they didn't ask when the book might be published.

Posted by xnataliedx Jun 26th 2006

Jo was absolutley fab as usual but like others have said what a wasted oppertunity, Richard and Judy pretended to know what was going on whereas the kids asked futile questions all of which she has answered zillions of times before and are answered on her website. The first kid hadn't even read the books! :( I think it's unfair that they had little kids on the show, it's obvious that the last few books aren't aimed at 10 years old more like 15 yrs + so in my opinion they should have had older "fans" so we could find out some valuable info!

Posted by scurvy_cur Jun 26th 2006

Yeah saw it, as always it was interesting to hear Jo talk even if we already knew most of it! I think Snape's gunna die, i have thought so since GoF

Posted by englandrox Jun 26th 2006

JK would never give us the title for book 7 so soon :( ..... anyway, JK said that one of the people that she originally intended to kill is alive, so maybe she wanted to kill one of the trio, but has changed her mind...?

Posted by watch_the_sky Jun 26th 2006

That was a great interview! I thought it was only going to be a couple of minutes but it was nearly half an hour. I can't believe she's altered the ending... two more dealths..ahh. I'll probably be more upset that hp will be finally completed. I think she should agree with Richard's idea and extend the books to 9! The kids at the end repeated questions that she had already answered in the interview part of it which was a waste! I agree with marcnlard though in the respect that we didn't get much new information and but they did seem to know quite a lot about the books. I would have loved to see Paul O'Grady interview her though - he is pure class!

Posted by laetri Jun 26th 2006

Jo you f*cking ROCK. It is not her fault she was asked dumba** questions. We

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2006

AHH! please don't kill HP! I need him! 2 MORE people? Woa! That means that at least 3 people die! Scary!

Posted by Grub Jun 26th 2006

I think the person she brought back from dying is one of her favorite characters. Just a hunch.

Posted by englandrox Jun 26th 2006

watch_the_sky is right, I think maybe Paul O Grady would have asked better and more relevant questions

Posted by quidditchplayer Jun 26th 2006

She changed the end of 3 characters... I wonder why Jo decided to do that.

Posted by katie19 Jun 26th 2006

If Harry dies, i will be very upset!! GRRRR!

Posted by ah14ofia Jun 26th 2006

"She noted the suggestion that she would kill Harry off for the simple reason that no one could write sequels to the book when she's finished." soo... does that mean harry's gonna die????!!!!!!!???????? i'm so lost!!

Posted by wandaXmaximoff Jun 26th 2006

Jo was wonderful on Richard and Judy, and Ciaran (who posted the news) is right, I love her even more after seeing the interview. I'm really interested to know which 2 characters have been killed already and also who has got a reprieve.

I tell you, that dragon's the most horrible animal I've ever met, but the way Hagrid goes on about it, you'd think it was a fluffly little bunny rabbit. When it bit me, he told me off for frightening it. And when I left, he was singing it a lullaby.
