Here are some of the key points mentioned:
- She is well into writing Book 7 now.
- Although she still has the final chapter of Book 7 stored away in a safe, it has been altered slightly: Two more people have kicked the can while another has gotten a reprieve.
- Jo originally wrote this chapter in 1990. By doing so, she says some people have found her to be arrogant as she didn't have a publisher at the time.
- It was suggested to her that she would have good reason to kill Harry off in Book 7 so that no one could write sequels to the book when she's finished.
- She concedes having "boxed herself in" by writing certain minor plot details in earlier books, which now means she has to spend a great deal of time explaining or tying up.
- For the first three books, she says she was in denial about her success and fame "like a rabbit caught in headlights." Although she found them "cool," she says it was also peculiar to see casual references to Harry Potter in the press.
- Her daughter Jessica has dealt magnificently with the effects her mother's fame has had on her, such as kids at school pestering her for the title of upcoming books.
- Richard suggested dating was tricky because some people might only show an interest in her because of her wealth, but she said it was being a single mother that made it hard.
- If she saw a Boggart, she would see what Mrs. Weasley saw in Book 5: her children deceased.

Apart from the standard questions what really annoyed me was the first kid to ask a question hadn’t read all of the books - wasn't even confirmed he had read one. This isn't even the first time this happened in an interview. How much would the follows of this site love to speak to Jo? And ask her an insightful question that the rest of the fans would appreciate. Instead we the first kids the producers seemingly bump into.
Celebrate! JK is well into Book Seven! Pout and cry because we don't have the title, and then get over it! Actually, I think that was a great interview; but the boggart question was a bit pointless, in my opinion, when you could've asked a question about book 7... having the title of book seven would've made my day, week, month, year, you should get the picture by now... but that's okay, at least we know where she is in the writing process...
it was ok r+j didnt ask very in depth questions and the ones from the childeren wasnt anything you couldn't have found out from her website in my opinion a wasted oppertunity
Oooh she also said that most people don't consider harry to be their favourite character, only 2% (or something similar) so maybe she thinks that it wouldn't be too bad to kill him off as well as for the reason that no one can write unauthorised sequels. I hope that she doesn't though!
I forgot it was on! *cries* Thank God for More4 :D! :P Can watch tomorrow now... I'm so stupid.
whoooo!!! information!! I wonder who's been killed? I hope its not ginnnnny. ahh i bet shes like half way done with the book!! tahts so awesome! whoo!!! cant wait til next summmmmmmmer
i again agree with watch_the_sky - JK also said (as well as that only 2% of people like harry) that many more like ron - does that mean he has priority of harry in the saviour of a character?
I wonder who's kicked the bucket? I agree with watch_the_sky... I hope Ron and Hermione don't die... that'd be sooo sad... I think that at least one of the members of the trio needs to stay alive... you know, to tell the big 'story'... *sigh*... I also wonder who's going to live after all... *another sigh*
no ah14ofia she said that wouldn't be the reason, "If she killed harry off".
one word... interesting
Like I said before..Ron won't die! If one of the trio dies..It'll soo be Hermione! And Hagrid won't die! Maybe that's who Jo saved..Cross your fingers!
oh i see thanks SnowMonkey... i was panicking:) i get it now
Definitely waiting for the video more now. Bet it's real fun to watch.
I missed it I couldn't believe it!!! Hopefully you guys will get a video up!!!+
I like her reason for killing Harry, it only makes sense, cause who would want to read a HP not by Jo, or better yet, what would come of the person who tried to write more HPs
Every time they get little kids to ask her questions, every time!! They never ask anything interesting, they always ask the same dumb things - why did you think of Harry, who's your favourite character, blah blah blah!! Why didn't they get older people who could have asked far more relevant questions? And Richard and Judy too - they were pathetic! Judy seemed to think that Lockhart was a portrait on the Head's wall, for crying out loud! On the other hand, we did seem to get some interesting info - I'm dying to know who she killed off and brought back in the final chapter's revision!!!
ooh i wanna see the video! but that sounds like a waste of an interview, we knew all of that except the part about changing the last chapter. i dont want anyone to die xcept voldemort! nooo ron/hermione/ginny better not die, that would be so sad! im thinking hagrid and lupin, people from the order. and probably a random student...i dunno, zacharias smith or goyle or padma or someone...i also think malfoy is gonna die
I think the death that shocked her husband will be Nevile.
Aww! She was lovely! Watched it on TV and also taped it .. Will watch it repeatedly until the release of book 7 now! She was talking about the final chapter and was saying how she had to tweak it a little bit ... Then when she said: "I'm killing off two characters and when I told my husband he said 'Oh no.. you can't!' about one of the characters" Am hoping (in a very strange way) that it is Harry and Voldemort ...
I remembered J.K. was doing an interview and set a tape but my brother stopped it taping! I'm not talking to him for a while. Put it up quick, I can't wait to see it! Those things sound quite interesting about the deaths, but also quite disturbing because I thought she only kills people when it is vital to the plot. She has just impulsively killed two people. Aren't you all worried? I am happy for the resurrected person though. I wonder after we've read the book will we know the two who almost survived and the one who almost died... Thank you Jo for doing this interview, it must have been quite scary doing a live interview. We are all so grateful.
OMG, that's really kewl. Can't wait for the video!
Ok, am I the only person here who can't seem to log off? I keep looking where the "Weazley_is_MY_King" Logged in/out button should be and it's not there! HEEEELLLPPP! :P
Wow i thought the interview was good even though everyone seems to think it was a waste of an interview (which it was in the sense that the majority of the questions had been asked in the past and the people asking questions didn't know alot about Harry Potter or Jo). After seeing JKR in the interview you can't help but love her even more she is brilliant. And for everybody who hasnt seen it yet hang in there 20 more minutes and you'll have your video!
Ok. I am sorry for all those who think this interview was so great. I did too at first until I saw the 4th comment. Reading : - She noted the suggestion that she would KILL HARRY OFF for the simple reason that no one could write sequels to the book when shes finished. Sorry JKR but killing Harry off ain't never gonna stop people from continueing the book. I mean sorry, but come on. The whole series is suppost to be about * Magic * . Don't you think that someone would make up a spell or potion or something else that would make Harry come back to life? I am very sorry JKR but making Harry * Kick The Can * ain't never gonna stop people for trying to continue the book. It is too Good, and It is too Famous.
this is very good news that the last book is coming along i am both happy and sad cause i will be happy to read it and find out what happens who lives and who dies and if harry lives or dies or voldie lives or dies or both die and i will be sad cause it will be the finale and no more waiting for the next hp book.as to who the 2 characters are that are going to die i think it will be harry and hermione i think hermione's death would be a big shocker and suprise and ron will be so upset that hermione died that he will blame harry and turn to the dark side and i think harry will think he got all the horcruxes destroyed and realize he is the final one and has to die himself.i think the character jk saved is hagrid and replaced him with hermione to die.can't wait to see the vid.
I can see Snape, Draco and Voldemort dying. Maybe Percy Weasly...
dreamy_leo - She has just impulsively killed two people. Aren't you all worried? i'm completely terrified 2 get the last book in my hands, god knows how many deaths will happen... i'll be an emotional wreck! lol
SWEETNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Weazley_is_MY_King 21 minutes ago Ok, am I the only person here who can't seem to log off? I keep looking where the "Weazley_is_MY_King" Logged in/out button should be and it's not there! HEEEELLLPPP! :P oh no! same here! weird...
If I was to make a guess I would say that it's one of the trio that survives, who she was originally going to kill. Probably Ron. After all, it IS hinted in PS/SS that Ron might sacrifice himself for Harry to go on (the chess game). The two characters that die will be McGonagall and Lupin.
I can't wait to see it!
YAY my pics were posted lol I really can't wait for the seventh book ... personally I feel one of the characters that dies will be a Weasley there's so many of them to pick from :'(
Hmmm. A few things: I believe JK said Ron would survive, didn't she? and considering Ron and Hermione are practically together now, while Harry has just split with Ginny (for the time being) it seems more likely she would kill Harry than Hermione. As for the new deaths/reprieve - while she undoubtedly had to change certain things as the books went along, isn't it rather unlikely that she would change something like one of the trio living or dying so late in the writing? Its more likely someone like McGonnagal or Hagrid. Neville will almost certainly survive, as in a previous interview she said that one of the mains would become a teacher, and its quite likely she meant neville as herbology teacher.
OMG TELL ME GIMME THE INTERVIEW. At least someone lives but, TWO PEOPLE DIE? I'M FREAKING OUT? OMG!
nyleetch2 i never occured to me that neville might become a herbology teacher! that makes a lot of sense! yeah xnataliedx there are a lot of weasleys..im thinking percy or arthur might die. or as harry thinks, everyone hes ever considered a parent was killed by voldy,so maybe molly?
I'm pretty sure in an interview she said that if she killed Ron her daughter would run away from home and not speak to her so I think Ron's living...don't quote me on it, but i'm pretty sure.
just to clarify i dont think harry is going to die, because regardless of how many people "don't like harry as a character" it would be pretty cruel to leave us with his death as the series closes. I can see ways in which he would die and it would be bittersweet, such as Ron and Hermione at the end naming their newborn baby Harry, but when it comes down to it, I just don't think JK will do that to us...
ARGH!!!! TWO people dead??? I wanna know who it is!!! But someone got saved. Hopefully it'll be that Wormtail and Umbridge get eaten by Remus who ultimately survives. That would be good. Now... I need to see the interview SOON, pretty please!
Two people "kicking the can" is considered a slight change? Ah well, the interview information is very interesting. I just want to see it!
OMG! Right after I posted, the video appeared! Like magic- lol!
Where did Jo say Ron won't die?
i don't really care who dies at this point, as long as it's not part of the trio
I loved the interview but she scared me with the bit that 2 are going tio die
i cant believe that its her first live interview....u would think she's done it b4. well i REALLY hope harry doesn't die!
It's not Jo's first 'live' interview, just her first in a while.
"Two more people kicked the can while another has gotten a reprieve." That sentence gave me a chill, but I also want to read Book 7 even more now. Who dies? Who was going to die but now will live? Who's going to survive. Man, that was such a stressful sentence... Now I'm really scared for the characters!!! :(
Hey - lay off richard and judy - i'm not a fan of theirs but they had certainly read the books even if they didn't have every name and every detail to hand straight away! You think an american chatshow type would've done better - i seriously doubt it!! Yeah it was no new info but for all you know she could've said beforehand 'don't ask me about release dates/book titles etc etc cos i ain't telling you' which explains the questions. I agree they should've got kids who'd read the books but its by far one of the best interviews i've seen and if all you can do is b*tch about the presenters its just sad - be glad she did it! Hopefully she'll do more! As it gets to the end she can finally start talking to the press without being worried about something important slipping out! Sorry for those who didn't criticise R+J but when you read in the news article that the presenters knew nothing about HP it makes me mad cos they knew much more than most people who interview her do! Judy even said she wants harry and ginny to marry and same for ron and hermione - thats not someone who knows nothing! Just because someones knowledge isn't as encyclopedic as ours - doesn't mean they're not fans! Sheesh - and to think JKR writes about tolerance!!
Who dies? Oh dear God I need to know now!
Just finished watching, it was excellent! I love her even more, and I didn't even think that was possible! She's so down to earth, which I love. Three cheers for Jo!
I was thinking about her wording..... "while another has gotten a reprieve." Doesn't that make it sound like the person already died, but she was bringing them back?
