HPA looks to Potter fans to petition Darfur Genocide
Andrew Slack from the Harry Potter Alliance has started a brand new petition against the genocide in Darfur. He wrote to us with this message:It’s time now to join Harry, Dumbledore, and our real world hero Jo Rowling in making this world a place where the spirit of every child, including the children of Darfur, can be safe to come out of the cupboard and experience the magic of life and love.
There are millions of Harry Potter fans across this world.
Do you think one thousand Harry Potter fans can sign a petition to prosecute those guilty of war crimes against children in Darfur? The HP Alliance is asking all Harry Potter fans to go to http://wantedforwarcrimes.org/hpa right now, scroll down, and sign the petition. The mission is to wake up the UN Security Council to take action against the genocide in Darfur the way Dumbledore’s Army woke the world up to taking action around Voldemort’s return?
The HPA’s goal is one thousand signatures before the UN Security Council votes to take action in June.
We know MuggleNet fans can act quickly, so sign the petition today! Thanks to everyone for their support.

Yay, I was hoping they'd do something like this :) It makes us atleast feel like we're making a difference :(
Im signing it. Finally we're taking acting. Just like the DA did :]
ok, Im going to sign!
Look, the UN security council KNOWS about the genocide in Darfur. Leave them alone; they're trying their best.
it cant hurt signing GriseldatheGood.
Oh yeah they know, that makes me feel better. Come on, like tiassa said, it doesn't hurt to sing
Thank you to everyone who is signing! We talk of "Never Again" after the Holocaust in Germany, after Cambodia, after Rwanda...what does that mean if we let 400,000 people be murdered in Darfur without one arrest of the culprits? We can't send a message to the Sudanese leadership, the Burmese leadership, or any dictator that the world will turn the other way as they kill the innocent. One of the main ways that's going to get the UN Security Council to act and move on these indictments of two war criminals is by letting them know that each one of us cares and that the whole world is watching. One thousand signatures from Harry Potter fans across the world sends a bold statement that we are watching! Thank you everyone!
i signed already! lets show our support people!!! wooo!

I signed. Don't worry, it is safe.

Its so awesome that we can do things like this to try and make a difference in the world. EVERYONE should sign this.
Ohh yeah signing!!
I signed. Come on Mugglenetters!
I signed too :)
wud our names be shown to anyone?
It does make me feel like I'm making a difference. Just like the DA =]
I just signed. :-)
One thousand signatures isn't going to do anything. The UN Security Council is well aware of the problem, but even after the United States officially acknowledged that the Sudanese government was comitting genocide against its Muslim citizens much wasn't done about it, and a thousand signatures from little Harry Potter fans who will probably forget about it within the next week will not move them any more than the video footage and photographs from the conflict did. We have been helping the most by sending supplies and aid to the refugee camps in Darfur and Chad. Basically, the one country that can put enough pressure on Sudan to put a halt on the conflict is China, because China is the main buyer of Sudanese oil. Unfortunately, China doesn't want to do anything that would alienate them from Sudan because oil is a big import from China and they can get it from Sudan at a cheap price. Basically, few people in the political world care about the terrible crimes being committed against the peole in Darfur. This is all about business. I got an account on this site just so that I could comment on this post. Gah. I think that it's very cool that you're trying; I just don't think that this will help.
