Give Jo your support
Give Jo your support As most of you know by now, JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are currently involved in a court case against RDR Books and the HP Lexicon regarding a print version of the online Lexicon. Some of Jo's main reasons for taking legal action against this book are that she feels it is in breach of copyright of the Harry Potter novels, is not worthwhile to the reader (in that it provides very little commentary, most of which is "derisory" and "facetious"), and that it could detrimentally affect sales of an all-inclusive encyclopedia which she has long expressed a desire to write and from which sales revenue would be donated to charity.

MuggleNet fully supports Jo Rowling in this case. This week will be, without a doubt, difficult and emotional for the author who has spent 17 years creating the series we all love so much. Because of this, we feel that with as much support as possible, this time can be made more bearable for her.

Please feel free to leave any messages of support in the comments, which we will link to from the main page until a verdict on this case is reached. Thank you.

"I really don't want to cry because I'm British. These books, they saved me, not just in the very obvious material sense, although they did do that...I would have to say that there was a time when they saved my sanity." JK Rowling, April 14th

We love and support you JK and wish you all the best. We understand how hard this week is going to be and all we can say at least you will come out of it a stronger person!!! JK is GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ChocolateJess Apr 15th 2008

Go on, Jo! They breached the copyright of Harry Potter, knowing full well that you were going to release the proper encyclopedia with all the money made going to charity! We're all supporting you, Jo!!! Good luck x

Posted by BlackKat Apr 15th 2008

It's not fair the sort of stuff you have to deal with, with people leaching off your work. Most of us understand and the people who don't are just ignorant. Thank you for fighting for your fan's rights as well as your own. You're such a great role model. Stay strong :)

Posted by gryffinval7890 Apr 15th 2008

GO JO!!! if she loses im totally NOT buying a lexicon book!

Posted by warlocksandmuggwumps Apr 15th 2008

I agree with Brielle, above me, this is the sort of case were it's 100%. i really, really hope she wins. she deserves it. waaaaaaaaaaaay past deserves it. it should unquestionably be hers. sigh.

Posted by Hedwig8 Apr 15th 2008

We love you Jo! Good Luck and know that we support you 100%. Even though this is so hard to deal with, at least it will be worth it in the end when this is over. Good Luck!!!!

Posted by victoire4teddy Apr 15th 2008

Shob im going to put this as nice as possibe... no JK may not always be right i cant think of an occasion right now when she hasn't been right but im sure there may have been. And we all support JK because of her support for us and giving us somethings thats changed our lives so much. And also because Harry potter is her book why should other people beable to make money off her intelligent mind??

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan Apr 15th 2008

We're all behind you Jo. As should be all writers because if this goes in favour of HP Lexicon (which, like many HP fans, I have nothing against) it will mean that the copyright laws are not as strong as everyone thought they were.

Posted by hoopsrule Apr 15th 2008

I agree with Jo that she should fight this case, as charity is much more important than the profit of a few individuals. However, Mugglenet should not tell people what to think; that's their choice. GO JK!

Posted by anne_beth Apr 15th 2008

We support you Jo! So sad it had to come to this, cause Steve really isn't a bad guy (even thogh RDR is taking the heat, it's still his book).. He should know better than this! Even if he feels he has the right, he should always respect Jo's whishes!

Posted by juliecoursey Apr 15th 2008

I've been a primary teacher for more than 15 years and the series of Harry Potter books are among the most brilliantly written in the past 25 years, perhaps longer. Jo, you have inspired a media-assaulted generation to actually read! May you have the strength to endure this latest test of your mettle so that we, the readers, can again someday be captured by the heart-warming, giggle inducing, and ultimately thrilling words which you so meticulously select to put on paper! They are, after all, YOUR words and no one else's!

Posted by BlackKat Apr 15th 2008

People who leave negitive comments, please try to understand how it would feel to spend a huge chunk of your life writiing a book only to have someone copy it for their own selfish means. Jo isn't being selfish at all, if she chooses to wite an encyclopedia she will be donating her profits to charities. She IS doing the right thing, so please try to be a bit more understanding and stop automatically being against her because of her position.

Posted by lilpotterfan Apr 15th 2008

Jo, your true potter fans love you and your world so much. We are behind you 1000000%. It is your world and rightfully yours. We just appreciate the fact that you brought Harry into this world. I know my life would be incomplete with out it. I love Harry Potter so much :) and you are my Hero. Go JO! You will win this case. I know.

Posted by thediarywithin Apr 15th 2008

Go J.K.R I support you 100%. This isn't right of them to make a book that you were making in the first place. It's your characters it's everything that you created. I support you from fan support as well as a writers support.

Posted by tiassa Apr 15th 2008

Its not that she deserves it, so much as that she is right and that HP belongs to her. She gave us HP she gave us this site. She changed my life, she changed SVA's life. True fans shouldn't do what he's done. There should be no opinions on laws such as this, this is plain theft, nothing else.

Posted by ALe_Av Apr 15th 2008

Come on Jo be strong, I know this is hard for you and I know how many critics you've been receiving, but you can't get trough this. I'm 100% right beside you, protect your wonderful ideas

Posted by astroanna Apr 15th 2008

I think every fan of this saga supports you, Jo. You've created one of the great literary sagas of our time, and you should protect it by any means within your power. Thank you for giving us this saga and good luck in writing your encyclopedia. :)

Posted by HungarianWitch Apr 15th 2008

Every true fan supports JK! I hope she wins! A good idea by the way Mugglenet!

Posted by athosmr Apr 15th 2008

The Lexicon has no business writing a book based on characters created by Jo. The copyrights alone are a problem. Unlike Mugglenet's book, which SPECULATED on what would happen in Book 7, the Lexicon is trying to write their own version of events. This should be left up to Jo, and Jo alone. She has my total support.

Posted by dragonpyr13 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, you have given me so much in my life growing up that even if I didn't agree with your stance on the issue, it would be impossible for me not to support you. However, I do agree with you 100%. Your books gave taught me so many lessons, among which is that reading is one of the greatest gifts humans have. I wish you and your family the best, and I do hope that your case works out for you. You will always find support in us, your fans, whenever you need it.

Posted by Sloppy_The_House_Elf Apr 15th 2008

How sad it has ended up in court. Jo, you have my support.

Posted by adamloni Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I have read your books many times, and have read many other works as well. I 100% support your decision in this matter as you stand as a representative of other authors: current and future. I look forward to reading from your encyclopedia, and appreciate the efforts you have put forth for the proceeds of it to be given to charity. Thank you for all that you do and have done for making the reading world grow.

Posted by nekorose7 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, you've given us all so much, the very least we can give you is our support! You are 100% justified, and we are right behind you! SUPPORT JK ROWLING!

Posted by morgansnape Apr 15th 2008

GO JO!!!! I am with you like many people and I think that it is wrong for them to try and make this book. I would much rather buy a book from you and have the money get donnated to charity then have that guy make money for it.

Posted by Augrey Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I wish you luck. You are right in every way in this and it would be a travesty if you didn't win this. Know that we are all behind you on this, and those that aren't should put themselve in your shoes and see how they would feel. I support you in every way.

Posted by sticky Apr 15th 2008

Just to say Jo that i am with you One Hundred Percent here, and i wish you all of my luck in this case. I think it is so bad how far it has gone, and can't believe that RDR books haven't backed down yet and have said that they are wrong and should not publish this book. I can;t imagine how fustrated you are probably feeling, and i am with you!!! Keep your head up, you have the support of so many fans around the world!! Good Luck!!! We're with you!!!

Posted by Chloe Apr 15th 2008

Dear Jo, Thank you so much for Harry Potter, and for your kindness toward fans websites. I hope the Court will realise that if it doesn't recognise that your copyrights have been infringed, it will be harmful both for authors and for fans. Best of luck.

Posted by silverhaireddoe Apr 15th 2008

With you all the way, Jo. Whatever the outcome, I shall wait for your 'proper' encyclopaedia.

Posted by phantomfluteplayer Apr 15th 2008

You have my support Jo. I really love Harry Potter, and I wish you the best of luck.

Posted by arithmanceer Apr 15th 2008

Jo, you're amazing! I think you're doing a big thing by taking this to court because the media and the average person (in general) love to hate on the successful ones! But you're fighting this for a bigger cause -- a very important cause that will support the integrity of artists work for... well... hopefully forever! You're brilliant and a beautiful person! Never forget it! Go TEAM JO!

Posted by peroxwhy_gen Apr 15th 2008

I got to say, I do love you Jo, but I don't think I'll fully be behind you 100%. I think you're being rather overly dramatic. Doesn't mean I support Lexicon and want them to win, but this should have never been dragged to court. There are unofficial guides out there, for countless things, and I don't think they've all been dragged to court.

Posted by Padicatz Apr 15th 2008

Good Luck Jo! As a single parent in my 40's, I know what Jo went through before Harry, and I know how Jo has brightened my life and my childrens lives since Harrys world came into our world. I know how the Dementors torment your life, and I also know how Patronuses lift your spirits. We are sending you our Patronus Jo, to protect you and to help you through this. Good Luck & keep fighting.

My Friend Diane and I Support Ms. Rowlings on Her Court battle against RDR Books, Diane - I hope Ms. Rowlings - Warner Bros. win the Court Case . We Support Ms, J.K. Rowlings, Don't Worry You Got Your Supporter Backing You 100% - We Love You Ms. Rowlings .

Posted by Boogaloo Apr 15th 2008

Hi Jo I am absolutely with you 100%. The Harry Potter universe is your creation and no one else has the right to cash in on it for their own gain. If the Lexicon win, it will pave the way for a flood of similar substandard companion books which offer absolutely no added value to the Harry Potter fan base. Everyone is looking forward to the genuine encyclopaedia from the only person who truly understands this wonderful universe. Its creator Take your time though, we've still got three films to look forward to yet :)) Regards Kenny

Good luck, Jo, wherever you are. If you read this, Jo, we're all behind you! Long live JKR.

Posted by ayumidah Apr 15th 2008

Go JK! Your books were always an inspiration to me, and made me want to be a better writer! I know you'll win this case easily! Stay strong! :D

Posted by LadyDiana79 Apr 15th 2008

I want to be original in my support phrases. Rock on, Mrs. Murray. You've got this. Keep your head up! I'm a writer and I would be pissed, too. I have to admit that if I wasn't a writer I wouldn't understand the deep connection to characters that you create. People don't understand. Writing is more about just putting down words, there is writing a draft, editing, rewrite, rewriting and more rewriting. Then, there is doing hundreds of query letters, getting advice from agents and then doing more rewriting. It is HARD work! To those of you who don't understand. Think of it like this. Say tonight you sit down and write 100 page novel, do all the work I mentioned above. I take it change the character's names, age, keep all you words, send it all, get an acceptance and get a 10,000 advance. Will you be excited for me? I don't think so. People fail to remember that Jo has said over and over that she had planned an encyclopedia. If the lexicon is lifting words and quotes that she has already written, there will be no reason for people who have never read the books to go and purchase/check out at the library all 7 of the books. And if Steve is so innocent, then he wouldn't have had that clause put in the contract. He knew it could constitute theft.

Keep Going strong Jo!! We are all behind you, and always will be, and you will always have our support.

Posted by darkenough Apr 15th 2008

I support Jo. I think she's incredibly strong to do this as it can't be easy but she's standing up for what she believes in and if they make the right decision it will help other author's and protect their work too. Go Jo!

Posted by Hels Apr 15th 2008

Good luck Jo!! I'm behind you 100% and what ever happens I'll be waiting for your encyclopedia.

Posted by treetop Apr 15th 2008

The HP-lexicon is a great site, but they have no right -what so ever- to take your work and earn money from it! I support your work completely because the Potter books means alot to me and many others. I'm very much looking forward to the "Schottish book" whenever it arrives! Thanks Jo! Keep fighting for your rights!

Posted by DMB36662 Apr 15th 2008

My heart feels for you Jo. Keep a stiff upper lip as they say. Just remember that millions of fans support your efforts. I love you so......much. I will pray for your success and keep you in my thoughts. Love always. DMB36662

I have been reading Harry Potter since I was in first grade, and it is absolutely my favorite series in the world (my bat mitzvah theme was even Harry Potter) and I love the books. I am so eternally grateful to you for these books, and I am completely behind your decision in this case. Good luck!

Posted by narrowpath Apr 15th 2008

Jo, at one time or another we all have to fight for the things we love. Please don't let this unpleasant event in any way contaminate your joyful emotions and memories regarding Harry Potter. We, your fans, certainly won't either.
