Give Jo your support
Give Jo your support As most of you know by now, JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are currently involved in a court case against RDR Books and the HP Lexicon regarding a print version of the online Lexicon. Some of Jo's main reasons for taking legal action against this book are that she feels it is in breach of copyright of the Harry Potter novels, is not worthwhile to the reader (in that it provides very little commentary, most of which is "derisory" and "facetious"), and that it could detrimentally affect sales of an all-inclusive encyclopedia which she has long expressed a desire to write and from which sales revenue would be donated to charity.

MuggleNet fully supports Jo Rowling in this case. This week will be, without a doubt, difficult and emotional for the author who has spent 17 years creating the series we all love so much. Because of this, we feel that with as much support as possible, this time can be made more bearable for her.

Please feel free to leave any messages of support in the comments, which we will link to from the main page until a verdict on this case is reached. Thank you.

"I really don't want to cry because I'm British. These books, they saved me, not just in the very obvious material sense, although they did do that...I would have to say that there was a time when they saved my sanity." JK Rowling, April 14th

I love ur books so much Jo and I know that they have done a lot for all of us.And I want you to know that every true HP fan is 100% behind you.I hope you win!=)

Did you read what I said before, Mrs. Murray? It bears repeating. Rock on! We're here for you. haha!

Posted by tamaeera Apr 15th 2008

All my love and support Jo! Thank you for everything!

Posted by lairyfights06 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I support you 100%. I was a user of the lexicon before all this started and I too, like Jo, felt a little betrayed. I really do feel that all fans are being a little negatively affected by one fan's doing. And as Jo says, if this book was allowed to be published then it would impact all the freedom we have enjoyed in regards to the books. The fact that Mugglenet and it's wonderful editorials even exist is due to the generosity of Jo which could be tested if she looses this case. In any case though, Jo, there are a lot of people in the world who love you and thank you for taking all that time out of your life and giving us Harry. I am proud and privileged to belong to a generation that grew up with your wonderful books. Harry will remain with me forever and hopefully one day I can read them to my own kids. I hope you win the case (which you will I think) but regardless of any outcome, you will always be loved not only by me but by a LOT of others as well. YOU ROCK JO! :)

It the remote possibility that RDR books wins this case (I do not know much about American law respecting copyright and "fair use" and so cannot judge how the case is going so far) it makes me wonder how many HP fans will actually part with their money to buy this publication after reading Jo's evidence on the first day. Surely, we cannot be so disloyal to Jo as to actually read it. It would go against all my principles to do such a thing.

Posted by Shewbydo Apr 15th 2008

Jo, your books have been so inspirational to so many. I have always been behind you from first hearing about this case. I can't imagine how sad it must be for you to have to be involved with this, and I'm so appreciative of how much you have given the fans over the years. Don't give up the good fight. I can't wait for the Scottish Book!

Posted by luna27 Apr 15th 2008

Go Jo!!!!! We all support you 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let those bums take away your dream! You gave me mine so I am here for yours! I love you JKR you are a wonderful writer! We fans are here for the long hall! Love from Kathleen, a forever and ever and a day fan.

Posted by HPaddictsanonymous Apr 15th 2008

I can't believe this even needs to go to court. You wrote it, you deserve all the credit for it, NO ONE should take that from you! I can't believe they can even possibly think they're right on any account. Even if they did win, who would they sell it to????? I FOR SURE won't buy it, and I'm pretty sure many of us won't either. They'll lose even more money. I am so looking forward to the one and only true encyclopedia written by the ultimate author the world has seen:-) Don't worry Jo, we got your back! WE LOVE YOU!!!!

Posted by TheWriter Apr 15th 2008

I'm with you always and forever. One of your biggest fans and I agree with Narrowpath. To be honest, never read your books until a friend of mine took me to see the first movie, but since then I became one of the number one fans. Good luck on this case!

G.I. Jo --------------- GOOO JO!!!!

Posted by flippinwonderful Apr 15th 2008

I'm definitely behind you all the way, Jo!! And all of us here wish nothing but the best for you. Stay strong and we'll all be standing here for you too. Good Luck!

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I don't know what I would do if it was not for you and the Harry Potter series. I have been reading the books for over 9 years and have reread them many times. I feel like my life revolves around Harry Potter. Don't let this court case get you down, true Harry Potter fans will refuse to buy the book even if it is published.

Posted by Grubbly_Plank Apr 15th 2008

Don't give up Jo. You said that if the Lexicon Encyclopedia was published you didn't know if you'd have the heart to write your own as planned. NEVER let that happen Jo, if you do then he truly would win, & that must never happen. You created Harry & Van Der Ark should re-read the books & remember what Harry stood for.

Posted by Jill_the_Impossible Apr 15th 2008

I support you Jo! It's not right for others to be making money off your 17 years of hard work. Stay strong, we believe in you!

Posted by Jaimieanne Apr 15th 2008

Best of luck in the coming days Jo!

Posted by HBP_HagridsBigPoop_ Apr 15th 2008

Good luck, Jo! I know you can do it. We're all behind you 100%!!! =)

Posted by sarathebeautiful Apr 15th 2008

oh jo, dont worry about those rdr bastards. no matter what happens everything with the fandom and the fans and your encyclopedia will be all right. the fans know that you are right and rdr is wrong and they dont have a right to publish this encyclopedia especially since you asked them not to and it is very disrespectful for them to fight to do so against your wishes. that just goes to show that they are not doing it for the fandom but for the money. the fans will stand by you no matter what happens. this will blow over and people will forget rdr books and their encyclopedia but no one will ever forget the legacy you have created.

Posted by Kaitie Apr 15th 2008

JKR, thanks for everything you've give me---I'm 100% addicted to anything and everything Harry Potter! I support you in your endeavours to protect what is legally yours. Good luck!

All of us *including me* are behind you in this case!! Good luck and don't forget we love you!!!♥

Posted by adriandoher Apr 15th 2008

we love you Jo! if you loose the case, a HUGE amount of people won't buy the lexicon book1! thats us, true HP fans!!!!!!!

Posted by Leonardo Apr 15th 2008

Jo, we're all rooting for you. Just hang in there and as just like Potter justice will be served in the end! It's your books and your world and no one can take that away from you. We just can't wait for your encyclopedia that'll set everyone right. Hp Lexicon can stick to their online encyclopedia and you can write the true one. We all love and support you in all your endeavors so chin up and Constant Vigilance!

Posted by PigWithHair Apr 15th 2008

Frankly, I don't see what the point of a copyright is if someone else can simply use it without offering anything new for their own gain. My family and I support Jo Rowling in her fight against this publisher and Mr. Van der Ark. I think it's very sad indeed that he's taking advantage of Jo's generosity in allowing so many of us to enjoy the Harry Potter experience with others on the internet in discussion and fan fiction. Our family has had much enjoyment from the Potter books. They brought the joy of reading back to me after my dad's death. I would say to Jo Rowling that I'm sorry she's having to go through such an obviously stressful experience, and that there are many people who are completely behind her.

Posted by kissmysnitchumbridge Apr 15th 2008

If RDR wins, mugglenet should call on its massive amount of fans to BOYCOTT the fake encyclopedia. Go Jo!

Posted by felixfelicis888 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, you've written my life's story. There is no one who can write and inspire like you, and i would never have bought a book like the one the lexicon wants. If I want some exclusive HP facts, I only want them from you. I can't wait til you make your own encyclopedia, and it's amazing how unselfish you are. You could make tons of money off the scottish book, but no, you are giving it to charity. Absolutely incredible. Thank you Jo, because YOUR world is the best thing I have ever come across. I've read the series soooo many times, but it never gets old. It's sort of like air. You just need it.

Posted by KorinJ Apr 15th 2008

I think most everyone is with Jo on this matter, but on the off chance that she loses, I think it at least bodes well for her that MuggleNet gets millions of hits a month. The more fans made aware, the fewer books sold. It goes without saying that the site staff should keep this story on the main page for greater circulation in support of Jo. In the meantime, best of luck to our favorite author!

Posted by Acciodan Apr 15th 2008

We are behind you, Jo! Each and every one of us love you and the incredible gift you have given us in Harry. Every day I continue to see things in my life that are true and which I first discovered in your books. Don't let this case steal your incredible spirit of creativity and courage. You're a true Gryffindor and you're in the right. Battle on!

Posted by katie_ella_30 Apr 15th 2008

We love you Jo! Don't let some idiot bring you down!

Posted by GinnyIsGenius Apr 15th 2008

JKR, thank you for everything. Imagining live without Harry Potter is impossible now and for that, and all the great things that came with it, I thank you. I hope it all works for the best. I support you completely and the fact that we have to see this situation go on makes me sad and a bit ashame. I'm soooooo glad to see Mugglenet publicly support you on this case! (BRING THAT MUGGLECAST, PLEASE) I can only give you one of the best advice I've ever receive: DON'T LET THE MUGGLES GET YOU DOWN! Yeah, you are kind of brilliant. =D

Posted by adriandoher Apr 15th 2008

Grnd3lW4Ld Davidaccio both of you are very wrong! this is not a sob story, and HP is a creation made by JK all by herself. Of course she didnt invent ALL the names in the books, but she did not copy anything from other author. she was inspired by mitology and history, but she did not copy! she didnt name Hogwarts "the mount olimpus school"!! jeesh. she is in all her right to protest! lexicon is only writing the HP characters, and describing them. Lexicon isnt writing theories, they are just re-writing HP! you guys should support her and thank her for all she has given to us!

Posted by monaal Apr 15th 2008

Excuse me if I sound ignorant- but there's NO case here. Its HER work, HER characters, her G.D. WORLD shes created. I dont understand how this thing blew up. Its not his period. What it this burning desire of his to be like Jo. Ok... so he created a website BIG DEAL, you cant even right click on that site without a copyright infringement box coming up. SO how does he think he can take herrr work? Next thing you know all the fanfiction authors will want to publish their work-ridiculous. I know Jo's awesome and we all wanna be like her but I think this is just plain creepy... how can he still call himself a fan after making her cry! Shame on you! I'm behind you 100000000000000000000% percent.. ROCK ON!

Posted by malteselover Apr 15th 2008

Oh, Jo, don't worry. You have the support of so many fans who are eternally grateful for your work. Things will work out in your favor in the end, because ultimately, you have the rights to the world you created. Harry Potter has changed my life in so many ways, and I could never thank you enough for the series. Good luck, I wish you all the best!

Posted by pogogirl2007 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I am behind you 100%! You're books have been a bright light in the darkest times of my life. Thank you so much for the Harry Potter series. I have learned so much not only from your books, but also your life. My mom was also a struggling single parent. My mom and I have been through a lot together, and your books help us find peace in rough situations. I know this is a really tough time for you, but I know all will go well. Good luck, Jo!

Posted by cayenne Apr 15th 2008

Jo, As a lawyer and huge Harry fan, I fully support your copyright case. This book must be really bad because you have been so generous with your creations in other venues. Specifically, thanks so very much for allowing your fans to write Harry Potter fan fiction. You could easily have worked to shut down the many fan fiction sites and I am very grateful that you did not. Your books have brought so much joy to me and my family, thank you.

Posted by christianaeg Apr 15th 2008

to turn Jo's words back at her- If you read this Jo, we're all behind you. Good luck, do what you think is right, and hopefully this will all be over quickly!

Posted by Musical_muggle Apr 15th 2008

Jo, we're all 100% behind you. Our best wishes are with you, we know they will make the right decision. I cannot tell you how much your books mean to me and what they have done for me; I have met so many amazing people and have had some of the best years of my life. Who would've thought that a book would ever bring so many people together who all share the same passion and would create such an environment in which we are all equals and we all have the greatest time. That is all thanks to your extraordinary achievements. So thank you Jo, we are all supporting you. Jen xx

You have given us a wonderful world in which to play. The Harry Potter community has provided some of my dearest friends and memories. I am grateful to you for sharing Harry with all of us. Please know that there are so many people wishing you well with this ordeal. I wish you didn't have to go through it. Stay strong and know you are loved and highly respected. God bless!

Posted by LumosSolem90 Apr 15th 2008

To the author who saved my life; Thank you. The HP books has really saved my life, to read one of the books or just check out other HP sites, talk with HP friends, that has saved me. The books opens a portal to where everything can be possible. The books are like patronuses, they chase away my dementors. I smile just thinking about HP. I don't care if someone choose to hate or mock me for loving them. They've taken my heart. And they won't escape. You've got supporters Rowling =) We're all still here, we're still fighting.

Posted by dobbysglassyeyes Apr 15th 2008

Steve Vander Ark doesn't know who he's dealing with. Jo!!

Posted by Grnd3lW4Ld Apr 15th 2008

Yes, it is a sob story. she feeds this bull not only to a court but to her own fans. thats disgraceful. ____________________ "

Posted by fngw417 Apr 15th 2008

All good thoughts and wishes to Jo and WB. Jo should be the only one to release an all inclusive encyclopedia and anybody who attempts to do so, especially against Jo's wishes, should be ashamed. This is not what a member of the fandom does. I just hope this does not make us wait even longer for Jo's book to come out due to the delay this is causing in her creative process. GO JO!!! We love you
