Give Jo your support
Give Jo your support As most of you know by now, JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are currently involved in a court case against RDR Books and the HP Lexicon regarding a print version of the online Lexicon. Some of Jo's main reasons for taking legal action against this book are that she feels it is in breach of copyright of the Harry Potter novels, is not worthwhile to the reader (in that it provides very little commentary, most of which is "derisory" and "facetious"), and that it could detrimentally affect sales of an all-inclusive encyclopedia which she has long expressed a desire to write and from which sales revenue would be donated to charity.

MuggleNet fully supports Jo Rowling in this case. This week will be, without a doubt, difficult and emotional for the author who has spent 17 years creating the series we all love so much. Because of this, we feel that with as much support as possible, this time can be made more bearable for her.

Please feel free to leave any messages of support in the comments, which we will link to from the main page until a verdict on this case is reached. Thank you.

"I really don't want to cry because I'm British. These books, they saved me, not just in the very obvious material sense, although they did do that...I would have to say that there was a time when they saved my sanity." JK Rowling, April 14th

Don't give up, Jo! Harry is yours, always has been, and always will be. Keep fighting! We are 110% behind you on this. Love!

WE LOVE YOU JO! You're going to win this case. Remember that you have about 10 bizillion devoted fans supporting you. Be strong. We need your stories, not the stupid Lexicon ripoff!

Posted by addicted_2_hp Apr 15th 2008

Go Jo! We love you and all the dedication and hard work you have put into this masterpiece, Harry Potter, that is now part of our lives! We have your back, Jo!

Posted by Kmischler Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I read in a newspaper today that you had said something about this whole unpleasant event stifling your creativity and desire to write for the time being, and something about you not wanting to write your own encyclopedia anymore. I must say, reading that quote broke my heart. This is so unfair. And I'd like you to know that I was really looking forward to reading your encyclopedia, not trying to sound pushy about it, but if you still had any motivation to do it, know that there are those of us who will wait in line at midnight again when your version comes out. I love hearing the interviews when you reveal information not disclosed in the series. Anyway, good luck, and thank you with every fibre of my being, for everything!

Posted by narcibellhermina Apr 15th 2008

Just like you said Jo, SVA took your hard work and mushed it and demented it into a sloppy, error filled encyclopedia. I would prefer yours, Jo, no matter how long I have to wait, I am faithful to you, and if I could, would be down in the courtrooms screaming 'GO JO' if only we were aloud in... Please don't let this tarnish that solid gold, shiny trophy that is Harry Potter, as us fans will always remain faithful to the one, and only, Joanne Rowling.

Posted by Larael Apr 15th 2008

Don't let things like this get you down, Jo. Please know that although one of your fans has been led astray the rest of us have not. We're all behind you, and we want you to win the case for what is rightfully yours! Keep it up, Jo! :D

Posted by dachosenone Apr 15th 2008

Ms. Rowling, I know everyone is saying this, but we really are all completly behind you. You have every right to protect your ideas, characters, plot, and what has become a huge aspect of your life. I'm proud that of all the authors out there, my favorite is the woman who stands up for what she believes in and isn't ashamed to take action when her rights are threatened. Thank you for providing an example for us all and showing us how we don't have to sue just to get money or attention, but to protect ourselves and our work.

Posted by thehiviewarcade Apr 15th 2008

Ms. Rowling, You have the support of myself, my friends, and most importantly, AMERICA!

Posted by Sublime0126 Apr 15th 2008

Even if this book is allowed to be published, I wouldn't buy it, and hopefully after all this media attention surrounding this case nobody will. I only have room for one HP encyclopedia on my bookshelf, and that would be the one written by J.K. Rowling.

Posted by eyeheartlupin Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I'm sorry you have to go through this. I really can't believe anyone could call themselves a Harry Potter fan and then turn around and do this. I'm feeling pretty ashamed of the Harry Potter Lexicon right now, and I'm sure you will win this battle! Thank you SO much for the world of Harry Potter, last summer was one of the best of my life and it's all thanks to you. So don't let something so ridiculous bring you down! The real HP fans stand by you and love you! We eagerly await the release of your HP Encyclopedia :)

Posted by Alex Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I completely support your case and feel ashamed that such a large part of our fandom, the lexicon, is acting the way it is. However I'll say 99%+ of us Potter fans are behind you in this. They're your books and you have the right to determine what gets published. You've let our fandom flourish and it has had a major effect on so many of our lives. We support you Jo!!!

Posted by opera22 Apr 15th 2008

I'm with you 100% Jo! I would be outraged if someone did this to me. I really hope you win and can put this behind you.

DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY! oh waaiitt...ROWLING'S ARMY! hmm doesn't flow as well...i'll work on the name...the point is, however much support the BAD side has got, you've got about a billion times that!!

I back you up 100% Jo. Nobody could write a HP encylopedia succesfully except you!!! Sam

Posted by freckleface19 Apr 15th 2008

I support the Lexicon. And no, it's not because I'm a fan of the Lexicon, because i think I've been on there once in my life. I just agree with them. Even though Joe is probably going to win because she has a lot of money. I still love her, though!

Posted by Decagon Apr 15th 2008

My Dear Ms. Rowling, We are backing you 100%! By the way, the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office and the Wizengamot have determined that Mr. Vander Ark and his cohorts at RDR are guilty of theft and of misuse in their attempt to peddle their blatantly harmful transfigurment of your work as their own for profit. Should you desire, we are happy to make an exception for these Muggles and send the dementors to whisk them off to Azkaban. Please advise by return owl. Very humbly yours, Kingsley Shacklebolt Acting Minister of Magic PS: Have you checked the Defendants' forearms for the Dark Mark?

i just noticed jos blatent stereotyping aginst british people, the author of a book against prejudice based on race resorting to stereotypes to get her way. disgusting.

Jo, as a fan who's had their life changed by your work, I just want to remind you that we all love and support you. I am hoping for a good outcome to this whole mess, and I wish you all the best. Don't lose your strength - you seem like such a smart, strong and amazing woman.

Jo, I just want you to know that I totally support you on this. You have changed my life with these books, and you shouldn't have to go through all of this. I am totally with you on this, and I know you'll make it through. Thank you!!

Jo, I'm behind you 100%. As well as being everyone's favorite person/author I'm sure everyone would rather buy your encyclopedia knowing that it's all true, there will be some new info and it will be going to charity. We love you!!

Posted by honksfortonks Apr 15th 2008

To my favorite author, Jo Rowling: This may sound cliche by now, but I'm completely supporting what you are doing. What Steve Vander Ark/RDR are doing is completely out of line, and you have every right to be upset with them. Jo, I love your books SO much. They've really given me a moral high ground and have changed my life for the better. I'm so thankful that you made these books, or I would never have something as wonderful as Harry Potter in my life. To quote an icon: "Harry Potter: because I'd rather pretend to be a witch than do drugs." I love you and I love your books, and I wish the best of luck to you in your case against RDR. I hope you humiliate them. Your fan, McKenzie

Posted by vici1126 Apr 15th 2008

Everyone's behind you 120% Jo!!! We love you and support you very much and wish you the best of luck in this very sad case that should never have happened in the first place! Even if all turns for the worst (which I pray it doesn't) no true fan would buy a fake of your amazing series!! We'll all wait patiently and anxiously for the REAL encyclopedia!!!!! JKR FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!! GO JO!!!!!!!

Posted by ohsnape Apr 15th 2008

Jo, Do NOT give up! I have faith in you! Harry Potter has pretty much been my life. When times have been hard, I would curl up on my bed and read Harry Potter! I am 100% with you on the case! You are truly an inspiration! Just know that if you loose the case, you still have the fans and books! ~Brit

i don't want to cry, mainly because i've already cried a lot for harry potter and co and i've decided that crying is a pain, but harry has changed and saved my life beyond recognition. i have no idea who i'd be if i had never gotten harry potter and the sorcerer's stone for my 11th birthday. i will forever unwaveringly remain loyal to you, ms rowling, and your creation whether it be through biased attacks by religious extremists or someone who is trying unjustly to make a buck off your brainchild. i hope you the best and i know that as long as there are true and loyal harry potter fans, you will win this case. don't let this small issue put a damper on your day. we all love you and we all are grateful for the harry potter series and we will all remain proud of you and for you.

Posted by dejectedemu Apr 15th 2008

She doesn't want to cry, because she's British? Talk about a non-sequiter. Boy, the rest of us love crying, now, don't we? Sometimes when I'm bored I cry just for the fun of it. That said, I think she should win the lawsuit. And when she publishes the encyclopedia, I will run out and buy it:D I just wish she would quit reminding me that apparently British people don't cry or hug or do anything remotely human.

Posted by ginny101 Apr 15th 2008

You're our hero and idol, Jo! I know how god-awful this must be but just know that all TRUE Harry Potter fans are behind you 100%, 24/7/365! Your amazing work has shaped my world ever since I sat down on the floor of a bookshop as a second grader and read the first line of SS...don't let anything like this ever come between you ad your increible creativity. Good luck and we love you!

Hey Jo! From al of us here in NY were all supporting you! And for all of us in the POtter community we dont want to see you upest by this very unpleasant event caused by a fake Harry Potter fan. All of us are here supporting you and we all are wanting you to win this case and keep you work as you like it! None of us here want to see your work spoiled by someone who is using YOUR work to gain profit from it. So we wont let him destroy all youve worked for for these 17 years, Just remember Jo were all behind you! Lots of Love

jo, i am behind you 100% and i am wondering why british people don't cry or hug. i mean, i can understand the hugging thing, it deals with the personal bubble and i definitely don't like my bubble invaded, but everybody cries, it is just natural. i might be embarrased if i just break down in tears in the middle of a courtroom, but still even if they say they don't, everybody hugs and cries. from, samantha :,b

Posted by veelabelleza Apr 15th 2008

Jo, I'm behind you 110%! I couldn't even imagine ever disagreeing with you about something like this. I've become so connected to your series over the past 10 years and I owe you so much gratitude for creating something that has captivated me in such a way that no other piece of creative genius has done before. I've come across so many comments online and in person about how you are greedy and "suit happy," but I know that's not the case, and I've spent so much time and energy defending you properly. You have every right to sue for this type of violation; Harry Potter is yours and yours alone and no one has the right to take that away from you, nevermind make money off of your hard work and imagination. It's just a matter of principle and knowing right from wrong at this point. Thank you so much for your hard work and appreciation for your fans, its so hard to come across books like you have created, but I'm so happy that I've gotten the chance to experience them. I'll never stray from your work and I can't wait until your encyclopedia comes out! Good luck!

Posted by mrsoftie35 Apr 15th 2008

Jo, We, the true Harry Potter fans, could never accurately describe to you the impact you have had on our life with a boy wizard story and magical world we would all love to inhabit. During this difficult time, you must remain strong and defiant and never loose hope. There really is good in the world and we stand united behind your endeavor.

Posted by billyjbradshaw05 Apr 15th 2008

Wow, I was just so suprised at the reaction to this lawsuit. I read some very mean comments that Jo shouldn't complain, and I thought to myself: aren't you a harry potter fan? I mean, I think that this guy is really awesome to have done research and do an encyclopedia BUT, he shouldn't sell it publish it and make money off of it, b/c Jo is right in saying that he's just copying things down. Jo was very sweet in saying that she doesn't mind that us HP fans do that and make it free, b/c it shows admiration and support of HP but to go and make money off of it. That's just wrong. I surely hope they don't publish the thing b/c I have YET to read a decent book along the same standard as HP in a very long time. And i have been waiting patiently for her to come out with a new book. And if does go through then that means JK will not write, and that will just...it'll psst me off. late -Billy
