Give Jo your support
Give Jo your support As most of you know by now, JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are currently involved in a court case against RDR Books and the HP Lexicon regarding a print version of the online Lexicon. Some of Jo's main reasons for taking legal action against this book are that she feels it is in breach of copyright of the Harry Potter novels, is not worthwhile to the reader (in that it provides very little commentary, most of which is "derisory" and "facetious"), and that it could detrimentally affect sales of an all-inclusive encyclopedia which she has long expressed a desire to write and from which sales revenue would be donated to charity.

MuggleNet fully supports Jo Rowling in this case. This week will be, without a doubt, difficult and emotional for the author who has spent 17 years creating the series we all love so much. Because of this, we feel that with as much support as possible, this time can be made more bearable for her.

Please feel free to leave any messages of support in the comments, which we will link to from the main page until a verdict on this case is reached. Thank you.

"I really don't want to cry because I'm British. These books, they saved me, not just in the very obvious material sense, although they did do that...I would have to say that there was a time when they saved my sanity." JK Rowling, April 14th

I fully support Jo in this fight. And if she loses the case, I'd be willing to support a boycott of the HPL book in support of Jo and her own all-inclusive encyclopedia. I'd rather have an encyclopedia straight from the source, especially as proceeds would go to charity. But hopefully the SC will rule in Jo's favor, and she can go on with her writing without worries of people plagiarizing her life's work.

We love you Jo and we are all right behind you. Good luck!

Posted by Gryffindor_Rawr Apr 16th 2008

I am 110% behind you Jo. Harry Potter saved me as well as you. The Harry Potter series is extremly close to my heart and I personally would not read anything Harry Potter related (except the Mugglenet book about the Deathly Hallows) that is not from Jk herself. How can they take 17 years of hard work and turn it into just something to make money from? I really hope you happen to visit mugglecast and see all these comments for you Jo, they're so encouraging and I cant think of a better way to keep you're spirits up =]

I support you, Jo!! Greetings from a fan from Slovenia! :)

Posted by ECWC Apr 16th 2008

I agree with JKR 100%. It is all fun to create a website which aids in the enjoyment of the books she wrote with all of her heart and we all have used it one time or another. I agree with you and JKR that the website just takes her works and just puts fancy graphics on it or organizes it. The website in NO WAY shape or form added to her works or the HP world. AND I will not purchase the Lexicon book if they do win and publish it.

Good for you, Jo. I know you didn't want it to escalate to this level, but I hope you win now that it has. :) Thank you for giving me an amazing time in my life for eight years now with your books. I can't imagine life without them.

Posted by RoseMclane Apr 16th 2008

I'm So sorry you have to go through this, it must be tiering and painful. I have been reading HP for eight years and this fandom means a lot to me, IT WILL NOT GET TAKEN AWAY! Were With You Jo. I support you Jo 1000+ %

The 2008 recipient of the Rita Skeeter Award for Exploitative Publishing (winners must churn out a book in four weeks that distills the life's work of an individual into a cheap bestseller for personal profit) goes to.....Steven Vander Ark! Congratulations, Steven, for stooping to Rita's level. Good luck, Jo. Please know that your true fans will neither support Mr. Vander Ark nor buy his book. We're holding out for *your* encyclopedia. Love to Jo from a Muggle Hermione

the potter fans in tennessee are behind you Jo

Posted by bpowell170 Apr 16th 2008

Jo, I'm a 50-year-old woman who fell in love with your books shortly after Goblet was published. I've read them all several times, and like other classics, they will always be on my "reread at least once a year" list. I'm behind you 100 percent, and wish for you the best of all outcomes as this trial moves toward its conclusion. Take good care of yourself -- we're with you!

Posted by Malvinia Apr 16th 2008

Jo, you have been such an inspiration to so many of us fans. You, all you've done for numerous charities and your books have all influenced many lives. Mine included, I wish there was more I could do to show my support of you and your ideals. I can't believe Vander Ark has the audacity to call himself an fan of yours. He knew what he was doing was wrong, he made RDR include in his contract a clause about having legal fees paid for if he got sued over his plagiarism. Despite knowing it was not appropriate (or legal) he went ahead and did it any way. It seems to me if he'd been paying attention to what is written in the books he might have figured out that there is a recurring theme through out the series about thinking for yourself and doing what you KNOW is right. He is just another example of the greed, laziness and apathy that is such a prevalent attitude these days. Maybe he was paying to much attention to the Slytherins. The judge in the case doesn't seem much better if he can't see that it's not "fair use" to take something that someone else has written, change a few and stick your name on it and try to sell it as if it's your own work. But, the thing that really annoys me beyond all of that is the fact that over the years you, Jo, have made it abundantly clear that you intend to write a REAL H.P. encyclopedia of your own! Good luck! We love you!!!

Posted by ashisahpnut Apr 16th 2008

keep strong Jo, all of ur fans r 100% behind u!! i luv HP fansites...im on mugglenet at least twice a day 2 check news, but im appalled that the lexicon r exploiting the info r their site to make a profit!! its so unfair 2 u 4 all d hard work u have put into Harry's world! i cant wait for your REAL encyclopedia to be released!!! :D thanks so much Jo, love aisling, 15 ireland

Posted by darkhairhermy Apr 16th 2008

Jo - we all love you and are with you 150%! RDR books should have respected your wishes, and the case shouldn't have gotten this far. We love you!

Posted by Karynd Apr 16th 2008

Anyone who has sent as much of thier life as JK Rowling has on Harry Potter should not have to go through the pain of a trial like this. A true Harry potter fan would never turn and use JKR's years of hard work into profit for themselves. I have to admit I will probably never look at that Steve Van Der Ark HP Lexion website again. I just hope JKR will be able to write again after the trial. It would be a great loss to the litterary wold to lose her talent

Posted by lilwiccansecret Apr 16th 2008

I'm with you Jo !! Don't give up ! Everything will work out in the end.

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Apr 16th 2008

GO JO! I'm behind you 200%! I think it is so sweet how she said Harry Potter saved her sanity. I love you!

Posted by x3_kingl Apr 16th 2008

we love you jo!!! we're with you the whole way!

Posted by Andunel Apr 16th 2008

I for one am glad that Jo has gone up against this plagiarism. I can't believe that an internet site who claims to be a fan site would actually fight the very author that created the world they are trying to rip off. I know that I will in no way support this encyclopedia. Even if Jo does loose, I won

Posted by Mrs_Ronald_Weasley93 Apr 16th 2008

I'm with you 100% Jo! Thanks for everything you've done for all of your Fans and thank you for the years of enjoyment Ihave spent reading your books. LONG LIVE J.K ROWLING!

Posted by MrPoe Apr 16th 2008

I hope J.K. Rowling should win because Harry Potter is her creation and she owns it entirely. You can't just just write a book on the Harry Potter series when you don't have any right over it.

Posted by Sable_Luna Apr 16th 2008

Good luck! I support you completely. I am (extremely) obsessed with HP.

Posted by BrittanyRose Apr 16th 2008

Thank you for bringing us the world of Harry Potter. Your books changed my life for the better. Myself and other fans are behind you 100% with this and whatever you may face in the future. I hope you can spare a bit a sympathy towards Steve Van Der Ark. Although what happened is his fault it sounds like he got way in over his head and I feel sorry for him after reading some of the things he has said. Thanks again for everything, Jo!!!!!!! We all love you!

Posted by JKRowling_is_my_hero_7 Apr 16th 2008

Jo you have changed my life so much over the past few years. I felt just like Harry from time to time. Your books were an escape. RDR is just trying to make quick money off your sucess. I wish you all the luck in the world over the next few days. My family and I support you 100% P.S. Please write an encyclopedia of your own :(

Posted by member_of_SPEW Apr 16th 2008

Jo, I absolutely support you in this. Good luck. Keep faith. It will turn out ok.

Posted by rettawv Apr 16th 2008

CHIN UP JO. WE SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR RIGHTS! CANT WAIT FOR YOUR SCOTTISH BOOK. GOD BLESS

Posted by Susan14 Apr 16th 2008

TimeToChange, as I've said, I'm not blindly supporting her. I'm not following her around like she's a cult leader and obeying her wishes. Like I said, how do you know that I haven't read about the situation and made an educated judgment? No, I can think for myself, and in THIS situation, I support Jo.

Mrs. Rowling-

Posted by gillyweed743 Apr 16th 2008

Jo- You have given me so much happiness by writing your books! These are your books, they belong to you, so you fight for what you believe in! I know you can win this one! This is your battle, fight it for your books, fans, and family- and for the world that has given many people pleasure. Go get them! I love your books! WIN THIS ONE! I KNOW YOU CAN!

Posted by Lady_of_the_Dark_March Apr 16th 2008

Good luck on the case, Jo! All your true fans are behind you, and shall support you in all your decision. All the houses have united for one cause!

Posted by juliadiggory92 Apr 16th 2008

Though I fully support Jo in this case, I can't help but feel that Mugglenet should remain neutral in this and present the news in an unbiased way. Please let us make our own decisions about the case!

Posted by Fawkesdog Apr 16th 2008

Its hard to reason with brick walls! But i praise you Jo for standing up for whats right! Even more so since it is difficult. With you all the way!!!!!!!!;);)

Posted by lunalover2008 Apr 16th 2008

I think RDR should just give up the case now.its not fair that JK Rowling puts 17 years into her books then somebody just comes and just leaches off of her success.I fully support JK and Harry all the way through this mess!GO JK Rowling!and Long live HARRY POTTER!good luck!

Posted by loonyxlunaxlovegood Apr 16th 2008

Jo, you are my hero. You always, always stand up for what you believe in, and you aren't afraid to fight for what you love. That is just so incredibly amazing. I love you, Jo, and I'm praying for you.

Posted by Peetipuff Apr 16th 2008

Jo, we love you and wish you could be free to return home and start writing more wonderful books for us to enjoy. We are behind you 100% and wish this had never happened to you!

Posted by madfenix Apr 16th 2008

As a hardcore fan of the series, spending the past ten years of my life reading, rereading, discussing, rereading, and reading them again, I am offended by someone who claims to be a fan taking your work, Jo! You are absolutely amazing and substandard isn't a harsh enough description of anything Harry Potter that is not yours. No one else can create the voice, create the emotions, create the excitement that comes with the release of anything Harry Potter other than you, and someone trying to profit from from your hard work is just wrong. I am in total support of you and I have no doubt in my mind that you will come off victor in this situation! Thanks for all that you have done, all that you do, and all that you continue to do because the series has impacted my life in so many ways that you can't even believe. THANKS JO AND YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Posted by dark_nymph Apr 16th 2008

Jo, I am behind you 150%. I know this is a tough week for you. I had said before that I could sympathise with the other side because of all the time they had spent putting the encyclopedia together. The more I think about it the more I realise how wrong I was. The time they spent using your work for their own selfish means was nothing compared to the years and years that you spent creating this magical series! How they can still call themselves fans is beyond me, since they clearly have forgotten that they were not the ones who wrote the books! It makes me so angry, and I know that must be nothing compared to the way you are feeling. We're cheering for you Jo, and no matter how this turns out, we'll never forget that YOU were the one who created Harry Potter, therefore we support YOU! P.S. Good luck! Too bad I don't know how to make Felix Felicis; otherwise I'd send you some;)

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Apr 16th 2008

Good luck Jo! Me, myself, and I (as well as true fans around the globe) support you 777%! Too bad the case couldn't be taken to the Wizengamot! lol!

Posted by protego317 Apr 16th 2008

From your fans here in the Philippines, we love you JO! We defy the acts of RDR and Vander Ark. We wont buy that book even if it gets published. We support Jo! No to backstabbers like the Lexicon!

Posted by SmartRat Apr 16th 2008

Dear J. K. Rowling: Do not become Discouraged. All will be well! Thank you so much for the wonderful books!

Posted by pixiedust8187 Apr 16th 2008

I am a single mom with two jobs and currently putting my youngest through college, you and Harry saved my sanity too. I am horrified that any person or entity would so perversely attack and poach upon you and our beloved Harry. Is nothing sacred?! The magic you gave us all, the wealth, the depth, I can never thank you enough. Please know that you have millions in your corner, respectful, devoted, and proud of you for once again choosing the right way instead of the easy way.

Posted by tetzork Apr 16th 2008

Good luck Jo!!

Posted by mrsmoony Apr 17th 2008

I just want to let you know, Jo, that you are not alone and that my admiration for you has grown because of your courage and perseverence in defending something that is very close to your heart. You will get through this tough time, and it will all be worth it in the end if justice is served. I, and the rest of your beloved fans, are like your own Hermione and Ron; we love you and are with you until the very end.

Posted by puppylove91 Apr 17th 2008

Hi Jo, I support you 100%! Thank you so much for giving us Harry Potter you have no idea how much those books have affected me. I understand this must be hard for you but I hope you'll continue to fight and that you'll win. Good luck!

Posted by Cara6190 Apr 17th 2008

I'm behind you, too. I'm so sorry this case has affected you so much.

Posted by Luke Apr 17th 2008

If the Lexicon Win, I will buy all those "wannabe" encylopedia book and burn them all. Keep going Jo, and good job Mugglenet on supporting her

Posted by bktorange1 Apr 17th 2008

The HP-Lexicon has no right to infringe on your work. If there is ever to be an encyclopedia of any sort published than the only one allowed to do so should be you Jo, as you are the only one with that intimate a Knowledge of the world YOU CREATED! Trials are hard, be strong, anyone who can truly call themselves a fan of yours is standing behind you, together as one... you taught us that....

Posted by loonica Apr 17th 2008

This is my brother who just wanted to comment about this huge issue concerning our most beloved heroine Jo Rowling: I see that this issue affects not only HP fans but also those who are not much into the HP mania like me. But even though I am not a fan, I still support you because you've been an influence to us. Cheer up! It's okay. Just imagine the magic of Harry Potter and the wonderful things happened in your life. Good luck JK! Now here's what I got to say: Jo with all the things I've read about in magazines about you and your life I can only conclude them with two facts: one, your a magical author with magic in your books and two, your a very brave woman. We believe that you can go through this with courage like Harry, patience like Hermione and loyalty to yourself and to the people you love like Ron. And please take note that you are not fighting this battle alone. We, who stood beside Harry all these years will definitely stay beside you with hope. You can do this JK. Good Luck

Posted by AmberJane Apr 17th 2008

Jo, we are all behind you 110%. Don't ever give up! Am I right in saying that other fans will boycott the Lexicon if it does get published? Come one, everyone, back me up!
