Give Jo your support
Give Jo your support As most of you know by now, JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are currently involved in a court case against RDR Books and the HP Lexicon regarding a print version of the online Lexicon. Some of Jo's main reasons for taking legal action against this book are that she feels it is in breach of copyright of the Harry Potter novels, is not worthwhile to the reader (in that it provides very little commentary, most of which is "derisory" and "facetious"), and that it could detrimentally affect sales of an all-inclusive encyclopedia which she has long expressed a desire to write and from which sales revenue would be donated to charity.

MuggleNet fully supports Jo Rowling in this case. This week will be, without a doubt, difficult and emotional for the author who has spent 17 years creating the series we all love so much. Because of this, we feel that with as much support as possible, this time can be made more bearable for her.

Please feel free to leave any messages of support in the comments, which we will link to from the main page until a verdict on this case is reached. Thank you.

"I really don't want to cry because I'm British. These books, they saved me, not just in the very obvious material sense, although they did do that...I would have to say that there was a time when they saved my sanity." JK Rowling, April 14th

Stay strong and know that all of the true HP fans are behind you 100%! We all have the utmost respect and admiration for you and for your creative genius! A real fan would never have chosen this path and it is unfortunate that Steve VanderArk & RDR continue to perpetuate the myth that they have the right to compromise the integrity of your work. You have a right to protect Harry...we fans will support only the work that you put out there and not the so-called "work" of a thief! Hopefully this horrible ordeal will have a positive outcome very soon!

Jo- I am behind you. I will always be cheering for you. You can win this one. You deserve to write this book.

I completely and totally support you. The Potter series is my life, I've literally read and reviewed them 50 millions of times. I wish you the best of luck in your case and hope you win.

Steven Vander Ark's work on the website has been magnificent, but he has clearly taken a wrong turn here. RDR is performing an unfair breach of copyright and I wish for strength for Jo during these difficult days. I support her, love her work, am grateful for it every day, and I can't wait to buy her definitive HP encyclopaedia.

I've read Harry Potter dozens of times since I discovered them in 1999 or 2000. I am a very big fan of the series and of JKR. I really hope that RDR wins the case. Rowling is claiming intellectual monopoly over something she released to the public. If she did not want people to compile such guides and references to the series, she should have written the books for herself and kept them private. If JK wins this one, Mugglenet and Leaky Cauldron might as well be shut down. RDR's book breaks no more rules than any of these online sites. They do not claim to have written anything that they have not and can only encourage support for the series.

We are behind you all the way Jo. Don't give up. Your fans are with you. The only HP encyclopedia I want to read is yours. Your books got me reading again and made me a better parent for it. I set a good example for my kids and we find family time by reading your books together.

We're with you, J.K Rowling. We love Harry Potter and for me they're the best books in the world!! We hope you win the case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all Haters thinking about posting something because they think they're rebels: your little post is up against thousands of Harry Potter fans. We do not care what haters have to say. Real Harry Potter fans will support JKR all the way, as we do. JKR devoted seventeen years of her life to this series, all that work, only to have some guy breeze in, decide "I want in on this" and use her work for his gain. He is no Harry Potter fan, he is a greedy waster. No author should have to contend with this kind of rubbish, after all, it is all their work ,and nobody has the right to profit on it in this way. You see Qwal, companion guides do not just take the author's work as given and copy it down, they offer some reference but mostly commentary. This leach did not do that. Think about it this way: you are in your job. You do amazing work, you deserve all the money and recognition coming your way. Then, somebody copies part of your work, and offers it up, claiming that you work was so good, they wanted to pay tribute to it, but want paying for it, despite the fact that it is not theirs. Wouldn't you be bothered? If this thing gets published, I trust in the Harry Potter fans, the target audience of this book, not to buy it. After all, who else would? Not one copy, anywhere, not even to criticise it. I personally am never going to visit the HP Lexicon again. I am pefectly happy to wait until JKR publishes her Encyclopedia, which we all know will be fabulous, and like nothing else. JKR, please know that we love you and support you in this all the way. Just look at all of us who support you!

There is a harry potter encyclopedia for sale in the UK...there was no author in any part of the book. My friend bought two copies gave one to me. Its still in the plastic. I will never open it. I'm faithful to Jo, and Jo only. Not Steve Vander Ark and the Lexicon. Jo. Jo. JO! :D

that is, 'ear, 'ear!

I think that any true fan of Harry Potter would back up Jo 100%. Loyalty should not just lie with the books themselves, but also with the author. She did, after all, create the series. How could you say you love Harry Potter and yet do something like this to the author, and for profit, as well? I don't think that is worth ANY amount of money. HP and what the series has given us is PRICELESS. We love you Jo, and we're all behind you on this. If I could, I would hug you!

I want to support KaitlinM in saying ''ear 'ear!' to Dark Pheonix, because he/she said exactly what I was thinking. I've read every single comment made on this post, and they are all proof to Jo's ability to bring different people, with very different lifes from all across the world together. I would also like to say again: GO TEAM JO!

Any reader or writer of fanfiction knows the confidentiality to this. Mugglenet knows, any writer who contributes to the fanbase. People read Harry Potter for the story and the writing style explicit to Joanne. I support her %. Simple. She isn't Jane Austen, she still can get honest to merlin credit for anything that relates to her work. If this passes, and RDR wins, then here is the message- Fanfiction writers and fanart drawers you can get profit for writing and drawing based off of someone elses well earned time. Essentially that is what this is, someone who wrote a piece of fanfiction and wanted to get paid for it. No way, no how, no no no. I support Joanne into high-heaven. If this case does not go into her favor, I will never read fanfiction again- and for me, that is saying something!

I've been through hard times in my life and there where you, Jo, to give me a push in my back and help me get issues done with your books. Now that you are in those hard times please let me remind you how much I admire and respect you, and even if we will never meet, be sure I'll always support you. Don't give up! You've dueled tougher dark wizards in your life! Love from Argentina. :)

JK, I support you 100% I loved the Lexicon, but you need to protect your work. I commend you for the steps you're taking to do so. I wish you much courage and the very best of luck!! Adam Steckel Washington, DC

Jo, we all are supporting you through this very difficult time in your life. Harry Potter is your lifes work, and you have every right to fight for what you created and love. Ultimately this will make you a stronger person, but don't give up, and don't let them ruin you're spirit and your fond memories of Harry Potter. You'll come through this, and your fans will be here with you every step of the way. God Bless, and the best of luck to you and your family in this emotional time.

Hey Jo!! I support you 100% and I think it's so wrong of RDR to do this. You've worked so hard and I'm such a huge fan

I support you Jo, for yourself and for all creators of all forms of art. Its your right to defend your work from those who want to take advantage of you. Don't let any of this hinder your joy for your work and your fans. We love you Jo, and will always be by your side.
