10 Years Since the Downfall of Lord Voldemort
10 Years Since the Downfall of Lord Voldemort As revealed in ITV's JK Rowling Documentary which aired back in December, May 2nd, 1998 was the day Harry finally defeated Lord Voldemort within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

A couple of visitors have asked us to post this wonderful anniversary. And why not? The Battle of Hogwarts within Deathly Hallows was one of the coolest scenes ever created by Jo. It held what we've been waiting to witness since closing Sorcerer's Stone. And who can forget Molly Weasley's infamous line to Bellatrix Lestrange: "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"?

So here's to Harry and his triumphant win against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Leave your thanks to Harry and Jo in the comments, and ask yourself: Do Wizards have a name for this anniversary?

Yay! Thank you JKR and Harry, even though imaginary (though very real in my heart) for making the Wizarding World the wonderful place it is! :) And I am not sure what this holiday would be named. I would imagine similar names to the endings of WWI or WWII (there are so many other WWII parallels) :)

Ten years.... wow :) LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!! THE ONLY WIZARD EVER TO SURVIVE THE KILLING CURSE.... TWICE!!! TAKE THAT!! :) Thank you, J.k. Rowling.... thank you.

Posted by EverettChronos May 2nd 2008

V-V Day? No, wait. That would be V-Y-K-W day. Probably something like Potter Day, or Hogwarts Day. It could be something Rowlingly simple, like End Day.

Posted by rooon May 2nd 2008

Wow.... occasion to celebrate! I'll bring out the wine.

Haha, I love "Voldie Got PWNED day". Yay for Harry!!! I will celebrate by changing my status on facebook/myspace to "Happy Voldie Got PWNED day!" ;]

Posted by catefinnigan May 2nd 2008

I'm sure they have a name for it. Or if they don't, I'm sure that all wizards know why May 2 is important, like September 11 or the 4th of July for Americans. Ten years later, I still miss Fred. :-(

Posted by thepottermermaid May 2nd 2008

Oh, I've been mentioning this to everyone I see today! They all laugh at me. I'll have to show them this! Thanks, Jo and Harry, for an awesome battle scene, amazing lines like 'NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!' and 'I'll join you when hell freezes over. Dumbledore's Army!'; as well as just the brilliance of finishing off such a successful series in such a wonderfully inventive and can't-put-down manner.

I remembe the day's, the months, counting up to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was my last day of primary school, and we did a play. 3 times i had to do it, though me, a group of friends and a teacher were all excited, as at midnight that night, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows would be released. I just remember going at midnight (as it was my first and last chance!) to get the book, then just reading and reading all night. If i remember correctly, there were 3 "swear references" in the book. Firstly, ron called someone a "Bastard", secondly Aberforth also called someone or some people "Bastard" which was in the Hog's Head, and last but not least, the famous "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!" so, happy Voldie got pwned day!!! Sukhpaal Singh

Posted by hedwig4evr May 2nd 2008

3 cheers for Harry Potter!! Hip hip, hooray!! Hip hip, hooray!! Hip hip, hooray!! May 2nd is a wonderful day, but a sad one. RIP Fred, Tonks, Remus, and everyone else who died fighting! I am sure that there is a name for it, and it possibly could be "The Day of the Chosen One" or something like that that would embarrass poor Harry for the rest of his life.

Posted by alex_c98 May 2nd 2008

PHILOSOPHER'S Stone, darn! Anyways, Voldy Got Pwned Day sounds good, haha. He got pwned by his own freaking curse... Oh voldy. Wow, ten years. Harry would be like, 27. That's nuts.

Posted by Harry_Potter_Prince May 2nd 2008

10 years? Back then, I was about ten years old. Anyway, I think this is the British Wizarding World's Independence Day. That would make sense. The day they got their independence from Voldy, 'cause he did take over, didn't he?

Posted by Nicastian May 2nd 2008

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by gryffindorprincess715 May 2nd 2008

Hmm...I can't really think of a name either. I was only 8 (but almost 9)!! How about something like...Molly Weasley Day? Just because of her famous quote! Molly Weasley needs to have a day.

Posted by Get_sirius May 2nd 2008

Posted by Militarized May 2nd 2008

I declare it be called HE-WHO-MUST'VE-BEEN-PWNED -DAY! Thank you Jo! and thank you Harry! You have avenged my favorite characters!

Posted by Kamion May 2nd 2008

and it's Victoire's birthday too, how old did Bill's first daughter get; 8 or 9? weird that Beltaine or Mayday never is presented a holiday in the Wizarding world like Halloween is, both have strong associations with witchcraft.

Posted by bd25 May 2nd 2008

first 50? anyway, I wonder if this defeat is greater than Grindelwald's though. Is Voldemort the last greatest dark wizard ever? Anyway, hooray for the defeat of Tom Riddle!

Posted by HPFANTimothy May 2nd 2008

Ahh, "The Battle of Hogwarts"... I do remember sitting on my couch at home, on a cold evening on the 21st of July, 2007... and coming across this chapter... and I had waited SOO long to read it! Well, congratulations Harry. BUT WE WILL REMEMBER DOBBY! DO NOT FORGET DOBBY!

OMG! I suggested this as a news item!!! WOOOOT!!!!! I've already had some commemorative services. Since Fred dies on page 512, I got up at 5:12 this morning and had a few minutes of silence and memoriam for him. I also did this for all the other characters who died in the Battle of Hogwarts (well, the good ones anyway). Now I'm really tired. :( RIP everyone who died....we love you....

Posted by 0_Croft_0 May 2nd 2008

He couldn't know that at this very moment, people were meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: "To Harry Potter - the boy who lived!"

Posted by Tom_F May 2nd 2008

To all those who died in the battle of Hogwarts, thank you for giving your lives to make our reading experience that much more exciting.

Posted by avadaKedavra_hannah May 2nd 2008

JK Rowling's books are incredible! I thought that Harry was going to use the AvadaKedavra spell but he didn't! It was incredible! I'm a big Harry Potter fan! And I'm a bit sad because Harry's story was ended but in my heart... His life continues...

Posted by NicoleM May 2nd 2008

President Potter's day! NAH

Posted by Crookshanks93 May 2nd 2008

Harry, Harry, Harry! He is forever my hero and forever in my heart. Those who lost their lives in the final battle are NEVER forgotten. Harry Potter Day! Harry Potter- the boy who lived!

Posted by britishbelle May 2nd 2008

Thank you, Jo and Harry! It certainly is the beginning of the Wizard Renaissance, isn't it?

Posted by darkhairhermy May 2nd 2008

I've changed my Facebook status to 'Happy Voldie-Got-PWN'D-Day!' Long live Harry Potter! The books, the movies, the person, the phenomenon. You have changed my life forever.

This is ama-za-zing! Happy Anniversary everybody! I'm SURE they have a name for this day.. I can't really think of what though. Jeez.. thanks so much, Jo! Without you, this site would have no purpose...and neither would my life. ;)

Posted by PottyforPotter May 2nd 2008

Argh! It wasn't even a year for us! This is such a memorable day... hundreds of people died fighting for the future and benefit of wizardkind.. and yet this is the day Harry triumphed over Lord Voldemort the day the Wizarding World was brought out from darkness and the Dark Lord's wrath. And the day Fred died... and Tonks... and Remus... and Snape... and those 50+ unnamed, brave souls who fought so hard for Voldemort's demise...They all shared the same deathday; yet this day marked the beginning of a new era with the defeat of Voldemort. Ok, 'Voldie Got PWNed Day' sounds fun, but in all seriousness guys, we should REALLY get a proper name for this... it may not be the official name but at least its a fitting way to refer to this special day... I have absolutely no idea what it should be though... Let's do this for Harry Potter, for Ron Weasley, for Hermione Granger, for Dumbledore, for Sirius, for Snape, for Remus, for Tonks, for Mad-Eye.. for everyone. Let's make a good name for it; a name that we'll remember this miraculous day by; a name fitting for the day Voldemort died and Harry triumphed; and a name for the day when true happiness flourished in the Wizarding World at last.

@Shubidubidu- that name is already taken. I agree with PottyforPotter Voldy got PWNed is fun but we need something serious which we can then make canon(though its a really good name)
