10 Years Since the Downfall of Lord Voldemort
As revealed in ITV's JK Rowling Documentary which aired back in December, May 2nd, 1998 was the day Harry finally defeated Lord Voldemort within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.A couple of visitors have asked us to post this wonderful anniversary. And why not? The Battle of Hogwarts within Deathly Hallows was one of the coolest scenes ever created by Jo. It held what we've been waiting to witness since closing Sorcerer's Stone. And who can forget Molly Weasley's infamous line to Bellatrix Lestrange: "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"?
So here's to Harry and his triumphant win against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Leave your thanks to Harry and Jo in the comments, and ask yourself: Do Wizards have a name for this anniversary?

wooo! very awesome anniversary...and the best scene she's ever written!
Haha that's pretty cool :P
This is fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!! Go May 2nd!!!!! Long Live Harry Potter!!! :)
the months before the DH release was my favorite time reading/rereading a book/series ever.. I can't wait until I have kids old enough to read these stories for the first time, and I am so glad that I grew up in the Potter World. I may not always remember to celebrate May 2, 1998, but I will never forget July 21, 2007. Thank you, Jo! And thank you, Harry!
I have not read all the comments posted here...but has anyone realized that today May 2nd is also Holocaust Remembrance Day? Coincidence? I only bring this up since someone who posted on the first page mentioned the world wars. I love a lot of the ideas people have been coming up with for this 10 year anniversary. Now that Voldy is dead, can you say his name now? And would wizards even try after many years of not using his name?
Happy Voldy Got Pwnd Day everyone!!!!!! Long live Harry Potter!
Happy Victory Day everyone!!!!!!! Thank you for all that you have done for us all throughout your life, Harry. The world would not be the place it is today without you and I can't fully express my love for you. I don't even have school today because my college realizes the importance of this glorious day! Thank you again to you, all those who help you in your defeat and who also fought against Voldemort and his Death Eaters, and also to Jo. Thank you all for the joy you have brought us for more than a decade!!!!!!! :o)

Wooh horay for Harry and the freedom of Wizard-kind! and happy 9th birthday to Victoire Weasley!
Downfall of the Dark Lord Day, or DDL Day for short! Go Molly! Poor Fred!
I still say she killed off too many people. She couldn't at least have left Lupin or Tonks alive so that Ted wasn't an orphan? >.< Preferably Tonk, I loved her
woot! 10 years!! and wizards should deff have a name for this anniversary..hmm......jo? can you help us out ;] she should totally write the name for this anniversary in that encyclopedia =] but wow. 5/2/98:VOLDEMORT GOES DOWN.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's all celebrate Harry Potter Day in style. that means ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!
LOL GUYS.... i'm positive it was 1997! not kidding! her site says fred died in 97... Anyhoo, happy happy Harry day!
How about "D-Day"? Is that one already taken?
Happy Moldy Voldy Day
I've been waiting for this day for a while!! Good thing the word got around. Personally, I've always considered harry to be around my age, so i keep the exact years of certain dates out of the question...lol just my thing, but i just like to think of the story as closer to our time. and also it can't be harry potter day because that's already what November 1st is called.
Whoa. 10 years. That's so long lol. They probably have a really long name for it, the-day-the-boy-who-lived -defeated-he-who-must-not -be-named-during-the-batt le-at-hogwarts-day.
That's cool I didn't realize when the date was today's my 20th birthday!
agreed with felix on the name. and it's 1998,christianaeg. the book starts in 1997 and ends in 1998(well actully the epilogue is in 2017) Thank You Harry, Ron, Hermione and all the others. and of course THANK YOU JO!
...believes this day should be called "potter's day" and jo, i can't thank you enough for all you have done for us boy, have i cried with that book anyway, this is a day to be remembered!!
Hellz yes =D HP forever
Wow, this would have been a very different day had things turned out differently. Anyway, Harry youre truly my favorite person (fictional or non) that has ever existed. You put everything on the line and made it. And I dont care if it sounds stupid, but I am genuinley proud (even if it didnt really happen.) Thanks Jo, and Thanks so much Harry.
Today is Deathly Hallows' Eve. :D
wow, thats a long time xD... there should be a name for this date!... i mean, if there's stupid days like mamoth day and stuff like that ther MUST be some sort of celebration for this event!... if not, well, then, happy, err... HAPPY HARRY SAVES THE WIZARDING WORLD AND HAS NO SO CREDIT FOR IT!! =D... have a holly jolly day:P...
Yay!! I think that since Victoire (Victory is english) is named after the Day that Voldemort was defeted then I think a good fitting name would be "Victory Day"
Hooray, Harry! The battle was quite spectacular. :D
even us muggles are celebrating! yay! today should be a national holiday, and it could be called something generic like "Harry Potter day" or something specific like "Harry Potter defeated Voldemort with a well aimed "expelliarmius" and a little help from his friends day".
I like monkeys. The pet store was selling them for five cents a piece. I thought that odd since they were normally a couple thousand. I decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. I bought 200. I like monkeys. I took my 200 monkeys home. I have a big car. I let one drive. His name was Sigmund. He was retarded. In fact, none of them were really bright. They kept punching themselves in their genitals. I laughed. Then they punched my genitals. I stopped laughing. I herded them into my room. They didn't adapt very well to their new environment. They would screech, hurl themselves off of the couch at high speeds and slam into the wall. Although humorous at first, the spectacle lost its novelty halfway into its third hour. Two hours later I found out why all the monkeys were so inexpensive, they all died. No apparent reason. They all just sorta' dropped dead. Kinda' like when you buy a goldfish and it dies five hours later. darn cheap monkeys. I didn't know what to do. There were 200 dead monkeys lying all over my room, on the bed, in the dresser, hanging from my bookcase. It looked like I had 200 throw rugs. I tried to flush one down the toilet. It didn't work. It got stuck. Then I had one dead, wet monkey and 199 dead, dry monkeys. I tried pretending that they were just stuffed animals. That worked for a while, that is until they began to decompose. It started to smell real bad. I had to pee but there was a dead monkey in the toilet and I didn't want to call the plumber. I was embarrassed. I tried to slow down the decomposition by freezing them. Unfortunately, there was only enough room for two monkeys at a time so I had to change them every 30 seconds. I also had to eat all the food in the freezer so it didn't all go bad. I tried burning them. Little did I know my bed was flammable. I had to extinguish the fire. Then I had one dead, wet monkey in my toilet, two dead, frozen monkeys in my freezer, and 197...
It is not only on this day that we rejoice in the defeat of the most horrible fictional villian of our time, but also to remember those who were victims to his destructive rise to power. Dobby the House Elf, Fred Weasley, Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, Colin Creevy, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody, Hedwig, THeodore Tonks, Rufus Scrimgeour, and various unnamed others, not to mention all of those killed during his first rise to power. All of these will live on in our minds forever. Before I post this comment, I have only two things to say to you all. Nitwit! blubber! oddment! tweak! LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!
YEAAHH HARRY! WHOOOO HOOO!!! LOVEE YOU!!!! BYE BYE VOLDY!
Congrats to Harry for defeating Voldemort. I still can't believe that the series is over. :( But that was an amazing scene (NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!) HAHAHA! I also have to thank Jo for creating such a wonderful series she has made. My life would be so different without Harry Potter or Jo's wonderful influence.
Cheers to Harry and all the people who fought against Voldemort! How brave they all are! So Happy Fall of the Dark Lord Day!!!!
Bye, bye, Voldemort. Congrats to everyone at Hogwarts. You were(are) fabulous. Thank you most of all to J.K. Rowling. Without you, we wouldn't have this wonderful series that we all obsess over. :] Saul
The Potterfans at DGH made an announcement in the morning on the P.A. at 8:30 to 'Remember the dead, even of the fictional world' followed by a minute of silence.
