10 Years Since the Downfall of Lord Voldemort
10 Years Since the Downfall of Lord Voldemort As revealed in ITV's JK Rowling Documentary which aired back in December, May 2nd, 1998 was the day Harry finally defeated Lord Voldemort within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

A couple of visitors have asked us to post this wonderful anniversary. And why not? The Battle of Hogwarts within Deathly Hallows was one of the coolest scenes ever created by Jo. It held what we've been waiting to witness since closing Sorcerer's Stone. And who can forget Molly Weasley's infamous line to Bellatrix Lestrange: "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"?

So here's to Harry and his triumphant win against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Leave your thanks to Harry and Jo in the comments, and ask yourself: Do Wizards have a name for this anniversary?

While I am sure all witches and wizards are celebrating today, we must not forget about the wizards mourning the loss of the ones who were lost during the epic battle. We must consider the Weasleys and poor George today as they mourn the loss of Fred Weasley. We must remember little Teddy as he mourns the loss of his great parents. And (grudgingly) we must think of Draco Malfoy as he mourns the loss of his long-time best friend/cronie Crabbe. As we remember the great fall of Voldemort we must also remember thse who dedicated their lives to stopping him and even perhaps died for "the greater good".

Obviously, the wizarding name for the holiday is "The Awesome Celebration Of The Epic Defeat Of Voldemort", also known was TACOFTEDOV Day, (pronouced ta-cough-tea-dove day) and is celebrated in all countries except the Philippines, who instead celebrate "The Awesome Triumph Of Harry Potter", also known as TATOFHP Day, (pronounced tay-toe-fup).

"We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter's the one, And Voldy's gone moldy, so now let's have fun!" Hahahaha:) I'm actually sorry it is all over! I miss it!

Posted by LVrules May 2nd 2008

WORST DAY IN THE WORLD! That ending was so cliche. LV should have lived, or been revived. Now its just the regular "happily ever after" ridiculous! And what wa so wrong with having DE's?? Then the balance was equal. Without it it was stupid. Just the same old stuff. I thought JK was better than that, more creative. Deathly Hallows should be re-werote.

Posted by BellatrixCrucioYou May 2nd 2008

WOOO!!! Good job Harry!!!! Today is also my little sister's birthday!!!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 May 2nd 2008

YAY! lol I had no idea that today was the actual day. Could we call it Harry Potter Day - the Sequel? haha cuz you know like in the first book when McGonagall said they'll call today HP Day? okay yeahhh. Well anyways, it's a good day! =]

Posted by lunaclone45 May 2nd 2008

Yay!! I suppose wizards would call this V-Day, or something. Happy V-Day!

wow 10 years!!! Jo you're so freakin amazing!! and Harry too!!! i totally agree with Andrew, the Battle of Hogwarts is just about the greatest thing i've ever read! to create something so real!!! id imagine they'd have a name for it...i mean they celebrated his downfall the first time with Dadeleus Diggle sending off shooting stars (i believe thats correct)!!! why wouldnt they "celebrate" his death?. its sad though when you think about....its all over..you know. the series......and yet....everything has just begun!!?

Posted by SCPGOH_ad24 May 2nd 2008

10 years! oh that so strange to think that Harry would have kids by now..

Posted by RaddishEarrings May 2nd 2008

Aww ten years of no attempts at Harry's life! Yeahh! If that's not success, I don't know what is... Still, it's a little weird to think that we just learned about this less than a year ago, when it really took place ten years ago...

I love bugging people about real-time HP anniversaries. And as for the name ........ *drumroll* ...... "HARRY POTTER DAY PART TWO"!

Posted by treetop May 2nd 2008

Happy 2:nd Harry Potter day! This is hopefully gonna be called the "2:nd Harry Potter day" considering the first "defeating" of Voldie was according to macGonagall called the "Harry Potter day!" And it fist with the 2nd of May :)

Ten years since the downfall of Voldemort AND happy birthday to Victorie Weasley, shes turning 9 years today. I wonder why nobody have written anything about that. /Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus.

Posted by harry_potterdude May 2nd 2008

alas, if only Merope Riddle had stayed with her son, or if his father never left, Lord Voldemort may never had killed at all and may have done good in the world, oh well. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!

That's so great. Indeed we must thank Jo for giving us this amazing world that changed our lives so much that we actually are happy about this day even though some may say it's just fiction. Because it's not! For all of us who have read the books, and love them so much, it is as real as each and everyone of us. So, HAPPY END OF YOU KNOW WHO DAY!!!!!!!!

Posted by Grubbly_Plank May 2nd 2008

Happy 10th Harry & co, you did it!!! RIP all the other hero's who laid their lives down for the cause, you will never be forgotten, & a very happy birthday to Victorie Weasley

Posted by ocm May 2nd 2008

I've been announcing the celebration of today since early this morning! I haven't read ALL comments, but scanned over a number of them. If anyone has seen the Weasley family tree it very distinctly states that Fred died in 1997. Wouldn't this mean it's the 11th anniversary??? Just wonderin' : )

Posted by Mully May 2nd 2008

10 YEARS!!!Well done to all those who died and those who lived during that battle I'm sure a fitting tribute is taking place at Hogwarts!!! (PS. Happy 9th birthday Victoire!!!)

Posted by dobbyXkreacher May 2nd 2008

woo! go harry ! go harry!! *shots gold sparks from my wand* celebrations!

Posted by snapelover23 May 2nd 2008

yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! isn't that so cool??????????????

Posted by adriennecray May 2nd 2008

I'd go with V-H Day (Victory in Hogwarts)...or just plain old Happy Harry Potter day! Weird cuz we had an early Cinco de Mayo party in Spanish 2day, so I'll count it as a tribute to Harry Potter. Harry...I ate chips and salsa for U =)

Posted by Witch_Lady May 2nd 2008

This is all good and well, but...who here celebrates for the true main character? No, not Harry, though he was a huge part of everything. I speak of Lord Voldemort. Without him, none of Harry's adventures would be possible. He would've grown up a normal kid, and where's the fun in that? I take this day to mourn the defeat of a great wizard. Greater than Albus Dumbledore, perhaps. Here is to you, Lord Voldemort. (And it's not like Harry even killed him. The only spell he knows is expelliarmus.)

Posted by christianaeg May 2nd 2008

how about..... WWW [wizarding world war!] Memorial day? Tri W Memorial?

Posted by tiassa May 2nd 2008

yeah so it was foolishness and arrgornance that killed voldemort... to everyone who is confused about the years: Harry was born on July 1980. It was hallowin after his first bday when the story started-1981. In the second chapter it says that nearly 10 years have passed from the end of that october-1991. He starts Hogwarts in september the year turns to 1992. In the DH the story(pre epiloge)it is 1997-1998. 19 years later from the end of the book-2017. Voldemort's Defeat was in 1998

"We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter's the One, Now Voldies gone Moldy so now lets have fun!" *Sniff* Then it is also the Death Day of Remus, 'Dora, Fred, Colin, and all of those other people!!:( Remus the last Marauder....

I'm so glad! Thank you so much for posting this, it came at exactly the right time! Seven cheers for the good guys, the good guys trying to disguise their goodness, the initially bad guys who turn out good and even the truly bad guys - sorry, you'll always have to succumb to good, but you sure put up a good fight ;)

Posted by Padfoot777 May 2nd 2008

Uh, one the family tree it said that Fred died in 1997, so is the date right on the news thing. Sorry just a thought.

Witch_Lady , YOU'RE RIGHT VOLDEMORT WAS POWERFUL THAN POTTER, AFTER ALL DUMBLEDORE SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKT "UNCOMMON MAGICAL SKILL" TO DEFEAT VOLDEMORT, EVEN IF HE WAS A MORTAL... THEN WHY WAS YOUNG HARRY POTTER THE ONLY ONE TO DEFEAT HIM, IT'S BECAUSE OF THE PROPHECY FOLKS! THE CHOSEN ONE, HAD A POWER THAT VOLDEMORT DID NOT POSSES... LOVE! AND THAT MADE HARRY POTTER MORE POWERFUL THAN THE EVIL LORD. NOW MANY OF YOU MAY ARGUE THAT LOVE ONLY SAVED HIS LIFE WHEN VOLDEMORT KILLED HIM, BUT DID NOT KILL VOLDEMORT... TRUE, IT WAS THE ELDER WAND PLOT THAT KILLED VOLDEMORT. BUT THINK OF IT THIS WAY. THE PROPHECY SAID "AND THE DARK LORD SHALL MARK HIM AS HIS EQUAL, BUT HE WILL HAVE POWERS THE DARK LORD KNOWS NOT".. THIS WASN'T ONLY LOVE TRELAWNEY WAS TALKING ABOUT, IT WAS THE POWER OF THE ELDER WAND, AND VOLDEMORT'S IGNORANCE THAT KILLED HIM. HARRY POTTER HAD THE TRUE POWER OF THE ELDER WAND, THAT VOLDEMORT DID NOT KNOW.... SO TO SUM IT ALL UP, LOVE DID NOT DESTROY VOLDEMORT, IT JUST SAVED HARRY POTTER'S LIFE NUMEREOUS OF TIMES. THANKS TO THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, IT WAS THE ONLY THINGS THAT COULD BRING VOLDEMORTS DOWNFALL.
