Rowling pens Potter prequel to benefit charity
Rowling pens Potter prequel to benefit charity Reuters is reporting this evening that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has written an 800-word outline of a prequel to the series that will be auctioned off for charity on June 10 in London by Waterstones. This is the charity we told you about a few weeks ago.

The article goes to say that:

"The outline, which ends with the line 'From the prequel I am not working on -- but that was fun!' is one of 13 story outlines written for the auction by famed authors including new Bond writer Sebastian Faulks and Nobel laureate Doris Lessing."

The money raised will go to charities English PEN and Dyslexia Action.

A prequel means Lily and James!! oh God I'd want this one more than Beedle the Bard. All I'm asking is for a win in the Saturday Lotto so I can buy this, is that too much to ask?

Posted by oomboo2 May 29th 2008

Are they auctioning of the prequal, or the outline?

Posted by oomboo2 May 29th 2008

Okay... it's the outline.

I want to read the prequel!! Maybe one day she'll make it into a full, huge one and then we'll all be lovely and happy!! Well.... I can dream can't I?? But I would love to read it :)

Posted by HPALI May 29th 2008

Is this going to be available to the fans at some point?? Alixx 55th

Posted by rach7494 May 29th 2008

This outline is 800 words, so approximately 2 pages of a HP book. I hope they don't publish it by itself, maybe with the encyclopedia or the tales of beedle the bard. It needs to be published with something. I could see it being given away with copies of HP (possibly the new SE of PS) but i hope they release it with a new book.

Don't worry you guys. My dad said that hp will never die, just like star wars never died only because of how into it the authors are and because of the money!!! HP WILL ONCES AGAIN LIVE ON!!! I can feel it!!!

Lots of excitement, which is great, but some mis-information and inaccuracies here, which I'd like to clear up. JK Rowling has donated an 800 word story, "from the prequel she is NOT working on" as she signs off on the card the story is written on to the Waterstone's What's Your Story? campaign. It is a story, not an outline. More than that I don't know, as none of us here have seen it - nor will we till the auction. The day after the auction at Waterstone's Piccadilly - all proceeds to Dyslexia Action and English PEN - all the stories from all the authors involved (as well as JK Rowling we have Axel Scheffler, Neil Gaiman, Nick Hornby, Doris Lessing, Margaret Atwood, Michael Rosen, Richard Ford, Irvine Welsh, Tom Stoppard, Sebastian Faulks, Lauren Child and Lisa Appignanesi) will be up at Waterstones.com where you can read them - free (though feel free to donate to the charities). From the 12th June, all the stories by all the authors will be blown up and displayed in all Waterstone's shop windows, so again, they can be read for free. Early in August a postcard book featuring all the stories - including the best ones received from the public either via our stores or through the What's Your Story? gallery at Waterstones.com (go look - it's cool) - will be published, priced at

This is so cool can't wait to read it!!!!! I'd love if she done a prequel sometime as well though that's what I'm hoping for anyway!!!!!!!

Posted by WaterstonesJon May 29th 2008

oops, fell foul of character limits there. Anyhoo - the postcard book will cost

Posted by Rose37 May 29th 2008

I as hope that J.K. Rowling writes the prequal and an book that decibes what had happen between those missing 19 years!!! J.K. Rowling has lots to do still and that means that HP is not over!!!

Posted by insanephoebe May 29th 2008

Posted by DeathlyH May 29th 2008
