Potter MMORPG confirmed by WB VP of Marketing
Yesterday we told you about an e-mail from Warner Brothers concerning the possibility of a Harry Potter online game. We also reminded you that there was one being developed by EA several years ago until it was cancelled.Today, Snitch Seeker has confirmed to us the source of the e-mail: Warner Brothers Vice President of Marketing Sandy Yi. She sent Snitch Seeker an e-mail similar to Pottersphere's:
The notion of creating a Harry Potter multi-player online role playing game is something that we've been discussing at Warner Bros. for a number of years and continue to explore. We are currently investigating the possibility of creating our own MMORPG but unfortunately do not have any further details to share at this time.
So, this DOES confirm that Warner Brothers is working on some sort of online Potter game that could be similar to games like World of Warcraft, The Sims Online, or Second Life. It's doubtful we'll hear any more about this for a while, but stay tuned!

Well, first off, they say they are investigating possibilities of creating the game, which means they have no clue how to pull it off. Honestly, EA is a terrible game company for the most part and if they make it the chances of it sucking go up big time. The best we can hope for is that they actually take it seriously, invest some time and resources into it, and surprise us all with one hell of a game. . .and for that to happen it will be another 4-6 years before this game is released.
I LOVE THE LOGO!!! VERY COOL AND VERY 3D!!!
Like I said before in the last mention of this MMORPG, I just think they should make an official Harry Potter version of The Sims. I'd obsessively play it lol. And I bet you anything they would make a TON of money. They have all these other Sims versions and even a Magic Sims version... why not make a version that is completely based on Harry Potter? I'd pee my pants with excitement hahaha.
You could've seen this coming, being sorted into houses just cries out for a game like that. I doubt EA would be making it, though, I don't think they've ever done an MMORPG. With MMOs, you either have great developers with brilliant ideas or you'll get nothing but a money suck. Personally, I can't see how the game would work. Would it be set in the war with Voldemort or after the ending of the books? Where would the story come from? I'll consider the game when it's Jo approved. ;)
This sounds awesome. But hopefully theres not a limit to what you can do, eg. spells. You should be able to do all the spells mentioned in the books. And hopefully its a realistic Hogwarts experience type thing.. Like you have to attend the classes/ you can only go to Hogsmeade on the weekends kinda thing...
OMFG!!!! I CAN"T WAIT THIS WILL BE SOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
No, it DOES NOT "confirm that Warner Brothers is working on some sort of online Potter game...." All this email does is say they at WB have been "DISCUSSING" "the notion of creating a Harry Potter multi-player online role playing game." I'm disappointed to see Mugglenet's reporter jumping to conclusions over that email from Yi. I've been very impressed with most of Mugglenet's reporting over the years - you've been shrewed, conservative and skeptical in all the right places many, many times. I think this is another time to be skeptical until more substantial evidence comes along. Cheers.
OMG! it could be amazing like WoW or it could be childish and suck, we'll have to wait and see.
It would be great if blizzard does it ( I love WoW!) but if EA does it it will be awful. they better have good graphics.
I can only hope that they actually do this RIGHT. As far as MMOs go there can be a lot of mistakes and bad choices made by the creators, so if this game ends up being a good MMORPG I'll be impressed.
This could either be really cool, or really lame. The Harry Potter video games have all been really horrible in the past, but if they did it Sims style, and let you make your own Hogwarts student...That would be awesome.
