Alivan's redwood wand sale for military families
Alivan's redwood wand sale for military families As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Alivan's, one of our longtime sponsors, will be donating five dollars from every Redwood wand sold to the American Red Cross. The money will be used for the purchase of phone cards for our military and their families. All you have to do to contribute is to purchase either Redwood wand versions (petite - regular) and Alivan's will handle the rest.

These phone cards are a huge need right now and they are extremely important to all of these families. 100 percent of the money raised goes directly to this cause and helps keep military families in touch!

HEY GUYS! I GOT THE FIRST MOVIE NEWS OF HALF-BLOOD PRINCE! ON VERITASERUM.COM, IT SAYS THAT WB HAS THEIR FIRST TEASER POSTER! BUT DON'T BE TOO EXCITED, IT'S ONLY THE LOGO AND TITLE. IT'S THE SAME COLOR AS OOTP, BUT I KNOW WB WILL GIVE US MORE NEWS OF THE POSTERS! WHY DIDN'T MUGGLENET POST THIS? IT'S FROM COMINGSOON.NET

Posted by tiassa Jun 24th 2008

Good cause, I love that they are doing this and I wish I could but one. The logo is so boring, I wouldn't count it at news.

Posted by HP_Luvr Jun 24th 2008

Awesome efforts by Allivan's. Red Cross is AWESOME!!

Posted by anglone01 Jun 24th 2008

i want one!!!!!

Posted by SlytherinBabe Jun 24th 2008

good for them!! Thats wonderful for them to do that! *claps*

Posted by ginny4harry Jun 24th 2008

This is so wonderful!!!!! My husband has been deployed 3 times since 9/11. We have spent 2 1/2 years of our 7 years apart. If you have affiliation with the military, you know how precious those phone calls are. I was, and, am so grateful that people still care so much about our troops. When my husband was in Iraq, I had a serious medical problem and he had to come home. The Red Cross was the one to help out with all the travel arrangements and the flight. I am telling you that the troops really appreciate everything that is done for them. I will be buying something for sure. God bless all of our troops, their families, Mugglenet and Olivan's. Go 222/FA Battalion. Yeah TRIPLE DUECE.

Posted by WordNerd014 Jun 24th 2008

oh that's awesome!!! yay!!!

Posted by rooon Jun 24th 2008

: ) Cool- that's great!

Posted by ScubaZelda Jun 25th 2008

I support the cause but because I am just a kid, i don't have the money to buy a wand. Although I sadly can't make a contribution my self, I do have to say that this is a good way to raise money; use the thousands of devoted Potter fans. By the way, the 'petite' wand looks SO much better than the 'regular' wand.

Posted by Rose37 Jun 25th 2008

I wish I could buy a wand, but I already have two wands. One hand made and the other a rubber toy wand, but I wanted to thank all the solders, for all you do for everyones freedom!!!

Posted by Rose37 Jun 25th 2008

I tried VERITASERUM.COM website and the website doesn't work!!!

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Jun 25th 2008

This is such a nice thing that Alivan's is doing. I wish I could buy one of those wands.

Posted by unfinished Jun 25th 2008

Lol. I thought at first Alivan's was selling wands at a discounted price to military families...I was like "???"

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 25th 2008

As a non-American, I find this news irrelevant. Why don't you donate to a better cause like the American Cancer Society or NAMBLA?

Posted by alexxx Jun 25th 2008

mattrixed : how do you find this irrelevant? this is helping the military familys, they fight for us everyday?

Posted by honeydukes0209 Jun 25th 2008

Um, Mattrixed, what does not being an Ameican have to do with this not being relevant? It's going to a worthy cause! There's plenty of people here connected with the military, myself included! Yes, said charities are wonderful, but still...they're not the only ones out there...

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 25th 2008

What does not being American have to do with this not being relevant to me? Well, first of all, this whole thing is for the American military. The American military does not "fight for me every day"because I am not American. It really is that simple.

Posted by rooon Jun 25th 2008

: ) !

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Jun 25th 2008

Yeah people! --> :)

Posted by honeydukes0209 Jun 25th 2008

Actually, even though it may be centrally connected with the US, the war has impacted many places internationally...If money is going to a worthy cause, how is it irrelevent? Idk, that's just how I see it. You shouldn't call other organizations "better", though, IMO. Alivans is doing a great job!

Posted by ginny4harry Jun 25th 2008

Mattrixed, Just so you know, the money goes to ALL military people. When my Husband was in Iraq for 18 months, there were other military units from all over the world on one base. A base holds thousands of people. They didn't just pick out the American soldier's and say," Here is your gift." They gave it to all people. The Red Cross helps almost every nation is this great world. Please check your facts before you mouth off. And PS.... Since the USA and Britain seem to come to the aid of almost any nation in need, I surely hope you would not be needing them.. I guess you can fix it all yourself. And if I seem MAD, I AM!!!! I am not saying American's are the best, but I am grateful that there are so many people out there who will give to any charity. I have almost lost my husband in combat and as a police officer. I am VERY thankful that Olivan's, Mugglenet, and the Red Cross are there to give the funds where they need to go. I also realize that my husband made his choice, but it still is hard. You want to know what the toughest job in the Army is, it's the MILITARY WIFE..... Every person in this world deserves freedom and if the USA is needed you can be sure we will probably be there.

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 25th 2008

It is precisely the sentiments of the person above me that cause so many people around the world to say that Americans think they are God's gift to the world. For someone who is telling me to check facts, perhaps you should check yours. The American Red Cross does not serve non-Americans. I quote directly from the Wikipedia page for the American Red Cross: "Although not a government agency, the American Red Cross provides emergency services to the United States military. The most notable service is emergency family communications, where families can contact the Red Cross to send important family messages (such as a death in the family, or new birth)." As you can see, the article clearly states that this service only goes to American military. No offense lady, but you are wrong.

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jun 25th 2008

oh yeah, Mattrixed, it shows how horrible mugglenet is! How silly of them! Post something about a good cause? How could they! Just reading your post shows me that there really are good people still in this world. better than mugglenet atleast. *tears up*.

Posted by honeydukes0209 Jun 25th 2008

*pats felix's back and sighs* It's alright, buddy, some people just can't accept that there might be other opinions out there...Very well said, ginny4harry! My father served overseas as well, and I'm sure numerous others on MN have, too. The best of luck to you and your family! Go Alivans!!

Posted by ginny4harry Jun 25th 2008

Mattrixed.... Have you served in the military? My husband and countless other's have. I can assure you that the Red Cross has given calling cards to the troops. Like I said before, there are thousands of soldiers on base at a time. Americans are not God's Gift. We are ALL God's gift. You know most American's don't give a second thought about going to help another country that needs help. I am proud of any Soldier that serves his/her country, no matter where, as long as it is for a meaningful cause. Not Al Queda, not to support the terrible things that are happening in Darfur. If Alivan's would try to raise money for your country's military and their families, I would support it and buy something. Not because I am American, not because I am better than you, but because I care. I care about what happens outside of my country. Your type of attitude is the reason we have wars and it makes me sad. I don't know anything about where you are from so I won't make the same mistake as you and ASSUME that everyone in YOUR country is just like you. Yes the plane tickets, and important family messages are for American troops by the Red Cross, but the calling cards go to just about anyone. How do I know? My husband was there 3 times. THANKS HONEYDUKES.... I appreciate your comment. May God Bless your and yours and tell your Dad thanks for his service.

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 26th 2008

ginny4harry...why did you choose to completely ignore everything I previously said? I quoted DIRECTLY from the Wikipedia page for the AMERICAN RED CROSS, which is a separate organization from the INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS. The AMERICAN Red Cross only serves Americans. This Alivan's thing only mentions the AMERICAN Red Cross. And as for honeydukes0209 saying that some people can't accept other's opinions, it seems like neither of you can accept mine, which was that I think there are better charities out there to donate to than one that helps American military call home. Such as cancer research, environmental concerns, or even UNICEF. If you think that finding cures for diseases is less important than some US soldier being able to call his wife more often, then you need to think hard about your priorities. If you really want to support "your troops" then perhaps you should send money to an organization that can provide them with better armor and protection from the numerous bombs and bullets shot their way. Lastly, my attitude is NOT the reason we have wars. To claim that is just hyperbole, in an attempt to make me look bad while ignoring the other facets of my argument.

Posted by ginny4harry Jun 26th 2008

I did not ignore what you just said. Why would you state that NAMBLA is a worthwhile charity? Because, if it is the same NAMBLA that I have had to deal with as a law enforcement officer, then it greatly disturbs me. If there is another charity with the same, then you have my apologies. I understand what wikipedia said, I am just telling you how it works in when the stuff is sent over sometimes. My husband is a cancer survivor so yes, I do donate to other charities. That doesn't make me better, I am just saying that I realize that there are other charities. Please do not assume what my priorities are. Everyday, my husband leaves for work, or is deployed, I live the fact that he may not make it home. Again, not for sympathy, just fact. And as a military wife, I will tell you that morale is very important, and those phone cards are a huge morale booster. I am grateful that technology has allowed that. Those calls are sacred. Especially if it is the last one ever made. I agree that there needs to be better protection for all troops, not just USA, but unfortunately the government decides that. I am not trying to make you look bad, it just bothers me that if an American is proud of their country, freedoms and states it, then other people like you think we are arrogant. I am happy that this country is able to help out. When my nieces and nephews ask me why their uncle is in the war, I tell them that we didn't get our freedom by ourselves and people came to help us, so it is our turn to return the favor by helping people who are less fortunate. It is our duty. And yes I am proud to be Italian,English and American, all my heritage.

Posted by Rose37 Jun 26th 2008

Frist off: I would like to say I am on ginny4harry's side on this agruement! Secondly: God bless America!! Third off: Thanks to all that serve for this country!!! I have two cousins in the military and I know how the thought of death being a possiblity hurts!!!! Folurthy: NEVER TRUST WIKIPEDIA'S WEBSITE!!!!! Fifth: I too try to help in any way that I can, to any cause that should cross my path, tho I can't help this cause only because of have already two other wands. I am sorry, but I don't need a third wand and last but not least, I would like to see where this agruement heads, so please continue!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 26th 2008

When I mentioned NAMBLA, I was obviously joking. However, you still didn't refute what I said. Do you have proof that money from the American Red Cross goes to non-American military phone calls? I seriously doubt this is the case. Other countries will have their own plans to get phone calls to their troops. The AMERICAN Red Cross only serves AMERICAN troops. And other people don't think you're arrogant for being proud of your country. They think you're arrogant because of things like this: "I tell them that we didn't get our freedom by ourselves and people came to help us, so it is our turn to return the favor by helping people who are less fortunate. It is our duty." That's jingoism. There is no "duty". America is not the World Police. Anyway, this wasn't the purpose of my original argument, which was that this news doesn't really matter to non-Americans because it only affects American troops.

Posted by heronxobsessed74 Jun 26th 2008

I think this is a great cause! Harry Potter fans banding together to help out good people once again. P.S. Everyone stop arguing. It's a fine cause, and the other causes you guys are recommending are also American, so, it's a very odd discussion. Most of Mugglenet's viewers are American, so of course they'd post this. Yeah, some people will think it's irrelevant, but most won't. It's like those 30 other release dates- do most people care about those? No. But some do. And way more care about this, I'd bet. Just thought I'd put my two cents in.

Posted by honeydukes0209 Jun 26th 2008

Why can't you just leave it? If money is going to a worthy cause, where's the bad in that? We understand that you're trying to prove your point, but stop making a mountain out of a molehill. Thanks very much, ginny4harry!

Posted by tealeavesleave Jun 26th 2008

One thing though (someone else may already have commented on this) "our" military should be changed, as this is referring only to the US military, if any mugglenet staff are reading this.

Posted by Rose37 Jun 26th 2008

I have a few questions about your last comment, tealeavesleave!!! First off, what do you mean by "Our military should be changed? Secondly, in your opinion, how should our military be changed and lastly how would mugglenet staff have anything to do with the topic of military? Is there a mugglenet staff member who is in military or is there a mugglenet staff member who has someone in the military? How does your comment make sense?

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 27th 2008

Wow...Rose37...I'm impressed by your intelligence. tealeavesleave was obviously talking about the wording of the Mugglenet posting, not to the US military itself. The term "our" implies that everyone reading is American, which is of course not true. The US Military is not my military. Thus it is not "our" military. This inaccuracy could easily be avoided by rewording what Mugglenet wrote. Which is what tealeavesleave was asking.

Posted by Rose37 Jun 27th 2008

WOW!!! No-one on the mugglenet website has ever called me smart, Thanks, Mattrixed!!! Most people on mugglenet website just see me as the member who has spelling and/or grammer problems!!! Anywho, let us get back to the conversation. So what tealeavesleave stated was that the most anything that has to do with the U.S. military ends up written in English, but in fact the U.S. military is not the only one fighting right now and in turn not only should military news be posted in English, but in other languages as well. Is this what you want the mugglenet staff members to understand as well or am I totally off on tealeavesleave's point of view???

Posted by armywife012205 Jun 27th 2008

You guys kill me. Every time Mugglenet has posted this, it's ended up being one big fight, about "who's better" or "Who's wrong" Can you please stop fighting over this? It is for a good cause believe it or not. As being someone who's husband has had to use these phone cards, I can say that military families are greatful for them. There was a time when I WOULD NOT have heard from my husband if he didn't have access to these phone cards. So please, for the love of Merlin, stop fighting over this.

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 27th 2008

Rose37, you are way off. What tealeavesleave wanted was to change the phrase "our military" to "U.S. military" since not every Mugglenet reader is American. That makes it incorrect to say "our military" because who is "our"? Mugglenet should not assume that every reader is American. I have no idea where you got the idea about other languages. What I'm saying is really simple, and I have no idea why you don't understand.

Posted by Rose37 Jun 27th 2008

Sorry, but you have to give me some credit!!! I did have somewhat of the point. I was just thinking in the wrong way!!! Way does tealeavesleave want to change the our to US when in fact you pointe out that not all mugglenet readers are Americans???

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 28th 2008

Because this news is ONLY about the US military. So the wording of what Mugglenet wrote should reflect that. The word "our" is not specific enough to whose military it is, so "our" should be replaced by 'U.S." to correct it. This is the last time I'm going to say this. If you still don't understand my point, then I'm going to assume that you have very limited knowledge of the English language. The alternative is assuming that you're just dumb.

Armywife, Thank you to you and your husband for your service. Aren't those calls so precious.? I too remember when I would not have heard from my husband. It is such a precious gift. It is wonderful that people will donate. Army Wife... Toughest job in the army. Mattrixed, Why do you feel the need to insult people? It's very disrespectful. So what if she didn't understand. At least she is asking for clarification. This will be my final thought ever for you... I am disgusted that you would find it funny to put a charity like the one you put. First off, a lot of children visit this site. Children are very curious. I would be very angry as a parent to see someone put that filth on here, even as a joke. I deal with the victim's of this sort of filth, and I can tell you that there is not anything funny about that. It tears people apart, and ruins people's lives. It can make even the toughest person cry. Good Luck in your endeavors. And if you believe in a God, may he bless you.

Posted by Mattrixed Jun 28th 2008

I'd hardly call what I said an insult. Sure, she asked for clarification, but she asked multiple times. It's not like I'm explaining something complicated. Also, get over your self-righteous Puritan attitude. Making the NAMBLA joke doesn't warrant your blatant overreaction. Children visit this site? Yes, they do. If a child wants to find out what NAMBLA is, then they are capable of going to Wikipedia and reading about it. I am certainly not advocating that group, but children don't need to be sheltered from its existence. Anyway, that isn't the discussion here. Lastly, why are you trying to make yourself look righteous by saying "if you believe in a God, may he bless you" to me? Leave religion out of this, thanks.

I may be dum when I comes to getting hart after something my parents told me many of times not to do(and right now I am suffering afterwards from the event), but I know what you meant. I just wanted to get a clear understanding of your point. Remember "A stupid question is a question not asked or better yet gaining more knowlege is when you ask question or this last one, Your never to old to learn something new!!!"
